On arrival 11/8 Hope and Sophie greeted us with an engaging tour of Lovill House Inn and it's history. My husband and I rented the on-site cabin with my sister and her spouse for 4 nights. The cabin was spacious and refreshingly clean and well appointed, including glass water bottles in bedrooms replenished as needed. We enjoyed the cabin's fireplace each evening. The breakfast offerings each morning were generous and delicious, presented beautifully. And that's an understatement. Shirred eggs, the best eggs I've ever eaten (recipes available). Any dietary requests were met quickly. The grounds are beautiful, with the newly renovated barn available for special occasions. A path to a nearby waterfall is on the grounds. The sustainable commitments made at he Lovill House Inn are impressive. This includes the solar panel installations with Tesla battery support; the no-plastics policy; commitment to healthful food options, with some flavourful ingredients grown on site. The staff managed so well by Allison (also and on-site chef) were thoughtful and knowledgeable providing a truly special experience for guests. I recommend Lovill House Inn as the finest in the area.

There are mountains for climbing, woods for hiking, a nearby ski lodge for ski enthusiasts, delightful shopping opportunities in the nearby towns of Boone and Blowing Rock as well as excellent venues for dining and possibilities for exploring. Each bedroom in the two story lodge has a feeling of privacy as well as a unique ambiance. Anne has gone to great lengths to make every room unusual and to make every guest feel special. One feels relaxed and at ease as soon as one enter the front door of the Lodge. This was my third trip to Carolina Mountain Lodge, and I look forward to many more. I love waking up to the cool mountain breeze and the smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfasting on fresh eggs from Anne's happy chickens. I enjoy exploring the quaint mountains towns and seeing the panoramic views from the mountain top. I love having cocktails at dusk on Anne's tranquil patio and sleeping peacefully in a big, comfy bed. I highly recommend Carolina Mountains Lodge in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains as a vacation destination.

We especially enjoyed the hot tub, playing pool, the big-screen TVs, the two living rooms, and the beautiful scenery. During our stay, we spent one day skiing at Sugar Mountain and another day snow tubing, which everyone loved. Hot Water: On a particularly cold day--when temperatures dropped to nine degrees, and there was snow on the ground--we returned from skiing and discovered there was no hot water when everyone was ready to shower. We called Carolina Cabin Rentals, and were so glad they sent someone the following morning to fix it. Snow and Driveway Conditions: That same day, a van carrying several family members took nearly two hours to make it up the snow-packed hill to the cabin, even with chains on the tires. We bought a shovel and rock salt in case it snowed again. We left the shovel there. Kitchen Supplies: Be sure to bring potholders, trash bags, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, dishwashing soap, a sponge, and kitchen towels. We also found there wasn't enough silverware for our group's size, and had to purchase plastic utensils. The coffee pot was too small for our large group - you might consider bringing a large coffee pot. Bathroom Door Locks: The family members staying near the pool table area noted that several bathroom doors did not lock. Front Motion Light: The motion-activated light at the front of the cabin was triggered frequently at night, likely due to wildlife. Unfortunately, the light shone through the blinds into the front bedroom, making it difficult to sleep. A blackout shade in that window could be a helpful improvement for future guests. These are all minor inconveniences, I know, but overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the rustic charm of the cabin and our time in the Banner Elk, NC area.

They sent a cleaning crew in the next day after we complained They offered to send maintenance in right away for a defective doorbell that kept ringing on it's own. I hope the owners did some maintenance and replaced some very scratched furniture but we couldn't ask for a more responsive rental company.

CHETOLA RESORT, BLOWING ROCK: THE GOOD, BAD & UGLY…read more So many difficulties with these people including the front desk staff & manager. 1. First, let me state that CHETOLA, on the outside exterior, is a beautiful place, landscaping, manicured grounds, small lake; just a special place. Really nice appearance. Then, you go inside: 2. After check-in, front desk staff immediately overcharged my AMEX by $1,132.38 for a 3-night stay, even after I had paid a deposit of ~$400 weeks before. This overcharge in itself was as much as my initial 3-night room stay as quoted by CHETOLA. This made my nightly room cost almost $800/night for a standard 2 Bdrm hotel room. So, I spent almost an hour the next day showing them how absurd and stupid that charge was. Finally, she admitted their mistake and, of course, blamed it on the "System" instead of herself. A Credit was finally issued. So, I waste an hour of vacation time being harassed by CHETOLA RESORT as to my final room charge. 3. Then, the 1st night my wife is showering in 3"-4" of waste bath water because the drain backs up. And, of course I face the same filthy waste water when I shower the next morning. So, waste time again and go to the front desk and ask for maintenance to unplug shower drain. And their reply is always, "oh yes sir, our folks will unplug that today, no problem." (REALLY??). 4. And that 1st morning, my wife cannot even put her makeup on at the small desk provided in the room. Unbelievable, because there is NO LIGHT anywhere on that side of the room. There should be either a wall light or a table lamp at the desk area, where people work, read, makeup, etc. So, my wife has to sit at the balcony to do makeup. 5. Speaking of NO LIGHTS on that side of room, the coffee maker was in such a dark location, again no light. You could hardly see where the water is poured into maker. Wife had to get out her small flashlight so we could see adequately. It is obvious that CHETOLA has deliberately cut costs everywhere they can, even at the inconvenience of their guests. DAMN RIDICULOUS. 6. At 2nd night, guess what is happening in the shower?? Wife is showering once again in 3"-4" of bath wastewater. Obviously, no one did a damn thing that day to unplug the shower drain. No one checked on it, no one called to see if everything OK, NOTHING from CHETOLA staff or management. 7. Next morning again to the front desk and request a manager to solve the problem. Out comes "Warren" and I barely start to explain the problem and lack of attention to it by the maintenance dept when he begins to interrupt my conversation. Only to state what a great maintenance staff they have and it will be unplugged. He seemed like an automatic robot only saying what they apparently teach these people to say when they know they have a problem, but won't admit it to the guest. He continually interrupted us to state his prepared bull____. 8. I told him how damn RIDICULOUS & DISTURBING it was that my wife & I are spending a lot of vacation time trying to correct their own damn problems INTERNALLY that are directly affecting us during this stay. Overcharging fiasco, no maintenance for 2 days while we wash in dirty waste water. Not even mentioning the lack of adequate lighting in the room. He was almost rude in the way he kept interrupting our problems and he would not entertain anything that would at least show they wanted to makeup for their internal problems and the difficulty it was making for our lost vacation time. 9. As stated earlier, it is a beautiful resort on the outside exterior, but internally it is a DAMN JOKE and highly DISRESPECTFUL to their guests. At least in our case it was. "Warren" should be sent back to Hotel 101 school and taught how to listen and help guests who are dismissed by his manners (or lack thereof) and train him and the front desk staff who are inadequately prepared in Guest Relations.

The bathroom was a big plus having two sinks and dual shower heads made getting everyone ready far less hectic. The fireplace was a nice bonus and gave the room a warm, comfortable feel. Beds were solid and we all slept well. Storage was the main drawback. There isn't much hanging space and no dresser drawers, which made unpacking harder than it needed to be. A few more hooks or coat racks, especially near the entry, would go a long way for families. Breakfast is included and fairly standard continental fare, with service ending around 9-9:30am. The TV setup included regular cable and streaming access, which was convenient in the evenings. The location is one of the biggest advantages walkable to grocery stores and restaurants, close to Tweetsie Christmas, and only minutes from Memorial Park, which leads into a very walkable downtown area with plenty of dining and shopping options. All in all, a reliable, comfortable choice for families looking for a convenient place to stay in Boone.

The large bathroom was a standout, with double sinks and two shower heads, which made mornings much easier. The electric fireplace added a cozy touch, and the beds were comfortable. Downside: the room could use more hooks and hanging space. There are no dresser drawers. Additional rods would make the space more functional, especially coat hooks in the mudroom-style entry. Breakfast is free continental style, served until about 9-9:30 am. The room had basic cable plus streaming options. Online it says the hotel is still under construction. We didn't notice any construction during our stay. The location is convenient, right across the street from grocery stores and restaurants, close to Tweetsie Christmas, and just down the road from Memorial Park, which connects to a charming, walkable town full of restaurants and shops. Overall, a clean, comfortable, and family-friendly hotel in a very convenient Boone location.
