    Breakfast buffet for the guests.

A very peaceful place to relax while you are hiking the Appalachian Trail. It is also a Bed and Breakfast that has some nice rooms. They provide an amazing breakfast for their B&B guests. For a small fee the hostel guests can enjoy the breakfast also. They have a food truck in the parking lot that makes excellent food for lunch and supper. Nice resupply for hikers also. They have a tree house that is available to rent for the night also.

Breakfast buffet was out of this world.

We came to the area to do some hiking on the Roan highlands. We stayed at the B&B in the Jefferson room. The room was very clean and so comfy. The deep whirlpool tub for the private bathroom was perfect after hiking. The best part of the stay besides Mary, Shannon, and David's hospitality was the breakfast. Absolutely hands down the best breakfast anywhere I've ever had. One of my favorites was Mary's homemade pop tart with homemade strawberry preserves. Everything was superb!

    Outside shot from creek.

Accommodations were great. We are section hiking and stopped by for a midway break in our hike and could not be happier. The crown jewel was the breakfast. Homemade, plentiful, tasty, and a variety of dishes. The food truck for dinner was awesome as well. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, you name it for pub food. Overall 5 stars.

Lots of nice outdoor sitting areas

The kitchen is quaint, but well equipped if you like to do your own cooking. They thoughtfully provided coffee, tea, sweeteners, almond milk, yummy muffins, and chips to tide me over. The king bed is very comfortable, plenty of blankets and heaters to keep it warm. The bathroom has lots of towels and was well supplied too. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood. It was lovely to walk along the road to the nearby stream, enjoying the autumn foliage. There is a great country store just up the block with crafts, a bar, a cafe, and live music on the weekends- a fun, family friendly place to sit outside without having to drive! I also enjoyed visiting nearby Grandfather Mountain, the Linville Falls Winery, and Mountain Grounds Coffee shop. The Biltmore Estate (a two hour drive away) was also a worthwhile day trip.

Breakfast every morning was delicious and fresh. We stayed in the Cherokee Rose room, which is in the main house. It was impeccably decorated and comfortable. There were drinks and snacks provided in the room. The only downfall is that we both like to sleep in and it's right outside the communal breakfast spot. Although, thanks to that we woke up every morning on time to eat the yummy food and get our day started. Also, due to the age of the place the water was brown in the tub, so we were unable to use it. Regardless of these few things, we'll be back and it's definitely worth 5 stars!

But everything else was a solid 3. Nothing wrong with it at all... But, I was underwhelmed based on my previous experiences. When we checked in, the host was fine. The room was fine. The bathroom did leave some things to be desired. There was not a good place to put your toiletries. We also had to climb into a very deep bathtub to get to the shower... If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.

However, I was expecting this to be a special and elegant experience and it was not. When we arrived during the specific check in time the door was locked and no one was in the front office. It turns out they were showing someone else to their room but we didn't know that. We just stood out on the porch not knowing what to do until someone finally came to the door. There's no reason they couldn't have the front door unlocked during the limited window of check in time. The person who showed us around said there would be "heavy continental breakfast ". However, it turned out the breakfast was probably the very absolute minimum they could provide and still call it breakfast. It was very disappointing. If I'm not mistaken it was only available from 8:30 until 9:30 or something very limited like that. Finally, there was no lotion in our bathroom, only shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. I would stay there again but I would have to weigh the options of amenities and prices of other hotels. A regular mid price hotel has more amenities than what was offered when we stayed.

With that, my stay at The Perry House Bed and Breakfast shoots to the top of my list of memories! Make some tea--this will be long! I've never stayed at a BnB before. My daughter and I do an annual daddy/daughter trip and we tried this area before in a cabin rental. Fun, for sure but the Perry House took things to a different level. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by Robin and Mike and they're just so darn nice, I want them to be my North Carolina parents! Robin gave us the lay of the land and our rooms and it was time to settle in for 4 nights. The rooms are cozy and comfy with each having their own bathroom. The house itself is gorgeous, especially at Christmastime. There's a TV in the living room, kitchen in the back, and snacks around. You can explore the highlands, or just sit in your PJs watching TV or reading. Breakfast was served daily and did not disappoint! Sitting around family style with others was fantastic. Which, that is another fun aspect of a real BnB--we met 3 or 4 different couples and they were all the warmest people. Sharing stories, sharing our lives, sharing things to do--this is the real deal. I mentioned to my mom that this, at least the entrance, reminded me of Newhart, if you're old enough to remember. Our capstone was celebrating New Years 2023 with Robin, Mike, and the guests! It'll definitely be one for the memory book! The Perry House is mountain hospitality, Americana, beauty, and history all rolled into one. If you're visiting Banner Elk, you owe it to yourself to stay at least a night and make memories!
