The kitchen is quaint, but well equipped if you like to do your own cooking. They thoughtfully provided coffee, tea, sweeteners, almond milk, yummy muffins, and chips to tide me over. The king bed is very comfortable, plenty of blankets and heaters to keep it warm. The bathroom has lots of towels and was well supplied too. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood. It was lovely to walk along the road to the nearby stream, enjoying the autumn foliage. There is a great country store just up the block with crafts, a bar, a cafe, and live music on the weekends- a fun, family friendly place to sit outside without having to drive! I also enjoyed visiting nearby Grandfather Mountain, the Linville Falls Winery, and Mountain Grounds Coffee shop. The Biltmore Estate (a two hour drive away) was also a worthwhile day trip.

The furnishings are old, in style with the house, but comfortable. There were fans in the rooms which was nice. We arrived late at night and got the last private parking spot, which is also a walk to the house but doable. Breakfast is served 8:30a-9:30s and we went down about 9a. There were no seats available, the hostess came and apologized and told us the breakfast menu for the day. Bacon was on it and I LOVE some bacon. Finally got seated, breakfast arrived, no bacon, they were out of bacon! Dissatisfaction! After breakfast talked with inn hostess and told her we didn't need our room cleaned but could use some clean towels and trash taken out. She said ok, she would do it and then hang a rope across the steps to let the housekeeper know we didn't need service. Then we left for the day. Got back late, clean towels, trash not emptied. Next day, left the rope down, left for the day, got back late, no clean towels, trash still not emptied. Oh, and we went down to breakfast by 8:30 to make sure we got seats and food! I'm There is a small fridge in the dining area with ice in baggies and you can store something small but that's it. They do have coffee/tea and small snacks t/o the day and night. This place is clean but not exceptionally clean, the outside grounds were nice but not exceptionally nice. Which I feel is the theme for this place, everything is nice and comfortable but not exceptional. Back to the breakfast, they make your breakfast and serve you, there are no options, you get what they are serving. The food was good. Would I stay here again? If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.

There are only 4 rooms, so there's never a crowd. The breakfast was wonderful. Lighter fare, in 2 courses. The first fresh fruit, with a Swedish cream or a fresh lime sorbet. The second was an egg soufflé with fresh vegetables one day, with rolls and apple butter bread. The second, a bread pudding with great sides. Their rates are very comparable to other B&B's and hotels in the area.

The scenery is stunning, the ceremony locations are gorgeous, the lodging was excellent, and the food was fantastic. Those aspects truly deserve praise. Unfortunately, the organization and communication leading up to our wedding were extremely disappointing, especially considering the cost. Our contract, payment schedule, and amounts due were inconsistent throughout the planning process. Different staff members gave us different information. When I reached out for clarification, I was told their contracts and payment plans were generated using AI and had mistakes. I was promised a corrected contract, but after multiple calls, voicemails, texts, and follow-ups over three weeks, I never received an updated contract or even a reply from Kaleigh. About two months before our wedding--after we had booked the venue over a year earlier and paid all deposits--Sugar Hollow advertised our wedding dates on social media as still available and even offered a discount. I had to contact them to let them know they were advertising our already-booked weekend. Our biggest concern before booking was whether the reception hall would stay cool during our late-June wedding. We asked multiple times and were repeatedly assured the air conditioning would not be an issue. Instead, during dinner the AC shut off and had to be reset, leaving the hall over 80°F with almost no airflow. Several guests had to leave, and some became sick from the heat. The venue had no fans available, and another vendor thankfully brought fans out to help. This was especially frustrating because summer heat is completely predictable for outdoor Tennessee weddings. We also discovered our catering contact no longer worked there only because my emails started bouncing back. No one notified us of the staffing change or set up an automatic response. Another disappointment was accessibility. We booked in part because golf carts were available for our amputee family member and elderly guests, signed liability waivers for them, and then were told just one month before the wedding they no longer offered them. I also strongly recommend hiring an independent day-of coordinator instead of relying on the venue's coordinator. We hired Nicole because she knew the venue, but many décor and setup details we had planned and discussed were missed or incorrect. Throughout the day I had to send bridesmaids and family members to remind her about tasks that had already been planned. A coordinator should be executing the plan--not needing reminders from the bride. Sugar Hollow has incredible potential because the property itself is beautiful. However, the organization, communication, and attention to detail simply did not match the price we paid. Future couples should keep meticulous records, double-check everything, and have an outside coordinator advocating for them. With stronger management, this venue could easily be a 10/10. Based on our experience, I would rate it a 4/10.

With that, my stay at The Perry House Bed and Breakfast shoots to the top of my list of memories! Make some tea--this will be long! I've never stayed at a BnB before. My daughter and I do an annual daddy/daughter trip and we tried this area before in a cabin rental. Fun, for sure but the Perry House took things to a different level. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by Robin and Mike and they're just so darn nice, I want them to be my North Carolina parents! Robin gave us the lay of the land and our rooms and it was time to settle in for 4 nights. The rooms are cozy and comfy with each having their own bathroom. The house itself is gorgeous, especially at Christmastime. There's a TV in the living room, kitchen in the back, and snacks around. You can explore the highlands, or just sit in your PJs watching TV or reading. Breakfast was served daily and did not disappoint! Sitting around family style with others was fantastic. Which, that is another fun aspect of a real BnB--we met 3 or 4 different couples and they were all the warmest people. Sharing stories, sharing our lives, sharing things to do--this is the real deal. I mentioned to my mom that this, at least the entrance, reminded me of Newhart, if you're old enough to remember. Our capstone was celebrating New Years 2023 with Robin, Mike, and the guests! It'll definitely be one for the memory book! The Perry House is mountain hospitality, Americana, beauty, and history all rolled into one. If you're visiting Banner Elk, you owe it to yourself to stay at least a night and make memories!
