I have attached a few photos of areas needing attention but the most notable was the bed. My husband and I could not stay another night on this mattress. It has no center support and we kept rolling towards the center all night. Additionally it is too soft. Perhaps firmness is of personal preference, however, it truly is past its useful life. It felt as if there was a piece of foam laid over the mattress in order to extend its life. In regard to the photos, a deep cleaning is in order, attention to detail as well as fresh paint and we would happily pay more in order to stay at such a North Carolina landmark. Our room felt a little musty at first but we turned on the AC until nighttime when the air was quite cool and comfortable. We enjoyed our relaxing stay and sat on our porch during some summer storms. In the evening, we had some complimentary tea and brownies and rocked in the chairs outside the main house. One evening we even heard bagpipes playing (must have been practicing for the Highland Games). Breakfast was delicious both days. There are no TVs in the rooms, which was fine with us. Even though the inn is on a remote country road, we were still surprised to hear cars and trucks go by throughout the night.

The servers that were passing around h'orderves were often standing around and talked amongst themselves. Towards the end of the night I saw about 6 of them sitting down next to the dance floor. I found the staff here to be quite unprofessional. However, they were all very nice. That is not the reason people come here to have a wedding reception. People come to this mile high destination for the views. When you first come through the front door, you see right through the beautiful building to the spectacular view that this gem has to offer. Windows surround the back of the building which leads out to massive balcony. The sense of euphoria of being in the town that has the highest elevation on the east coast with spectacular views and fresh air is exactly where two young lovers should celebrate the vows they have just given to each other. There are many vacation rentals and some hotels for people to stay at in the area. I recommend you get your guests a shuttle service so they do not have to drive. The roads are windy in this area. One problem with the building... It is long, most likely to maximize the views from the inside. The problem with this, is that it is difficult to hear the speeches being made from the middle if you are on the end. I'm including costs. - $49 charge for dirty towels (they said they are stained) however, they are pictured on the cabin floor and weren't washed. - $49 to replace a broken curtain rod (nothing was broken, it looks like a ring slid off the end). - $159 for a snagged rug runner - that was Walmart quality, not wort $159. - $35 charge for trash removal - there were no instructions on what to do with trash so I took the two trash bags and put them on the front porch for easy removal. They said we broke a fishing pole but it was a cheap fishing pole that I purchased, used, and then discarded of because we didn't want to bring it home. This does not seem fair at all! We are in shock that a business would operate like this! This is not $257 worth of damage, this is robbery!

When we turned to road with the gated entrance, it was gravel, overgrown, and we couldn't even see past the gate. And this was at 5:30pm with full daylight. I was so panicked that my husband thought I was going to have a heart attack. We immediately turned around & made our way back down the horrid road, riding the brake the entire time & with a vehicle right on our bumper who apparently wasn't as upset as we were. Thank goodness no vehicle came in the opposite direction. I do feel there should have been some hint as to this "feature" of the facility.
