    Hidden Valley double beds room
    Elena T.

Ditto what Kelly said. I'll add the following (I spent 2 nights with my 5 years daugther in the double beds room, in late March) 1. Very good deal for the money...in fact it was almost half the price to Best Western, the nearest hotel to the ski area. 2. The heater made the room feel like fire-brick pizza oven. Over night I had to wake up several times to turn the thing on and off. 3. It took us about 15 minutes by car to reach either Sugar Mtn or Boone and about 10 minutes to reach Hawksnest. 4. There are few restaurants nearby, however they all seem to close after 3PM. So for dinner you must head south to Boone (which has everything from fast food, restaurants chains to local joints). There is no coffee maker in the room either... All in all, Hidden Valley is a safe, clean and relatively close lodging alternative for an an extended ski trip. However if you need pampering or you can't get your Mojo going without a full belly and half-a-gallon latte, then skip it...get a room in Boone.

Jim has a bunch of old cars on the property he and Maxine live on site too!

Having read some reviews prior to my stay, I knew to ask for a room on the backside of the hotel because of Highway 105 traffic. Although I am not sure how bad that would have been. But the hotel did honor my request and put me on the top floor. So I did have a peaceful stay to rest up. The exercise room, pool and laundry room were clean. Behind the hotel were some trees and a retaining wall. The front desk staff was helpful, especially Chris, with helping me navigate the traffic in Boone. He even seemed interested in the NC Musicians Mural Trail. The hotel has one elevator, and it is slow, so be prepared to wait. There was a chair in the hallway to sit while waiting. They really need another one for the size of the hotel. The location wasn't the easiest to get in and out of either, and it seemed dangerous to make a left from the parking lot. As nice as the hotel and staff were, I'd likely stay elsewhere next time because of the location and the slow elevator.

Apparently everyone else does the same thing, because this hotel is on what is apparently the main road traversing the region, and the traffic noise was terrible, which is not what I thought was going to happen in Boone NC. The room was functional and I had no difficulty getting late checkout. The internet was functional for telework and I even found work space outside my room when I had to check out. Breakfast is not included, but I had no difficulty finding quality options in the town. I wonder if the road noise would be less with a room facing away from the street, but I'm not sure if that would be the case. Maybe the surrounding mountains create a bowl that reflects all the sound back in. If I had some real quality method of reducing the noise, I'd have liked the hotel more.

I would define it as "Sophisticated Simplicity". I was staying here for a personal getaway and was assigned to a beautiful room with a separate sitting room, a gorgeous bathroom, and a zen bedroom. The decor was lovely, stylish and tasteful. The staff was professional and helpful. It was quiet and relaxing and only a short walk away from the town center, perfect location! There is a pretty little creek that winds along the back garden area, I really enjoyed sitting out and watching the ducks. I am torn between keeping this little gem all to myself, and sharing its amazingness with the world! I can't wait to come back.

This is a very new addition to Blowing Rock, built in 2024. And it shows, the place is spotless, modern and bright. The lobby has an amazing lounge and bar area with a full service fine dining style restaurant. Everything about is sleek and modern. We enjoyed an amazing evening at the bar and restaurant (separate review). Our room was immaculate, and again a very modern and sleek style. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, not a single complaint about the room or the cleanliness. And the views facing downtown Blowing Rock from the patio with the mountains in the background was superb. We enjoyed morning coffees and afternoon happy hours on this comfy patio overlooking the heart of Main St in downtown Blowing Rock. A pleasant surprise was the continental style breakfast which is included with the stay. A kicked up version with better food from what you'd expect at a Hampton Inn or comparable hotel. Highly recommend for a great stay in the heart of Blowing Rock!

An imperfect experience...The good news first: The Embers is new, attractive, perfectly situated…read morefor walking around Blowing Rock, and has a staff that is unfailingly friendly and helpful. Room rates clearly reflect the premium location, but are not as bad as you might expect. But there is also the less good news: the rooms (judging by our "standard king") are smallish (not European hotel small, but getting close...), and a bit inconvenient (our closet was awkward to get into). Ice can only be sourced from the front desk and the bar/dining area can be noisy. And as for noise, there were hotel mechanicals (we were told it was an exhaust fan from the kitchen 3 stories below) clearly and somewhat unpleasantly audible in our room. We were told that this was being worked on, but it seems to me that The Embers has been open long enough to have had this resolved by now. So net...a very good and convenient place stay, but don't expect it to be without some minor annoyances.

But I'm so glad we didn't make our first visit here in the winter. We would have never gotten up to the condo with how steep the roads were. Our condo was clean and well equipped but we won't return because it wasn't convenient to anything we enjoy doing. Also, as a Verizon customer we had no internet. That was unnerving. I think if you plan on cooking, have a 4x4 vehicle, and don't want to do much other than cook and enjoy the views in your condo, this is a great choice. But we are active with our kids and it was a chore to get on and off the property.

Now I…read moreknow why the outside pictures didn't show much -- the roadway to the facility was treacherous. It is definitely not for anyone apprehensive of heights. The road to the complex is extremely narrow that makes me question if an emergency vehicle or fire truck could navigate it. In addition to it being narrow, it is a windy road on a cliff with no guard rails. I had a panic attack on the drive up; thankfully, I wasn't the driver. When we turned to road with the gated entrance, it was gravel, overgrown, and we couldn't even see past the gate. And this was at 5:30pm with full daylight. I was so panicked that my husband thought I was going to have a heart attack. We immediately turned around & made our way back down the horrid road, riding the brake the entire time & with a vehicle right on our bumper who apparently wasn't as upset as we were. Thank goodness no vehicle came in the opposite direction. I do feel there should have been some hint as to this "feature" of the facility. If I had known of this, there is no way I would have chosen this place for our well-deserved restful weekend. We ended up going back home & lost our money.
