Willow Bough bedroom (website photo)
Sweet T.

We really enjoyed our New Year's Eve visit to the Inn at Ragged Gardens. We didn't do much but sit around and enjoy our lovely room. The service was excellent and the inn itself is pretty cool. The location is perfect for accessing the rest of the town, what little there is. I wish I'd taken photos to post on Yelp but the house and property is one of the nicest in downtown Blowing Rock and has a great history detailed in some of the literature inside our room. Although I'm not a huge fan of the overwhelming bark siding on the outside structures, I came to understand that it was fairly traditional. Inside, the house feels like the sprawling old mansion that it is with sitting rooms, a butler's pantry and an interesting little restaurant. Most of the wood I saw was chestnut and oak stained the color of walnut so things are a bit dark and stately. Our room, the Willow Bough, was extremely nice. All the furniture looked antique and we had a sitting room with semi private balcony attached. The sitting room was perfect for reading, drinking coffee and cozying up to the gas fireplace. The fireplace, conveniently enough, was also open to the bathroom and so you could take a jacuzzi fireside as well. It was pretty swank in a somewhat rustic, lived-in manner. One little caveat to our experience was that right when my Adorable Companion wanted to take a soak, we ran out of hot water. About an hour later the heater had caught up enough for her to fulfill her mission. $250 is a lot of money for one night stay, *no doubt*, but once you are in that ballpark you get a lot of little perks. We had complimentary wine and cheese at five o'clock and access to coffee, tea, soda and bottled water at all times. Plus, there are numerous little nooks to enjoy your beverages in. This place has a lot of style. The next morning we had a complimentary breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, fruit, grits, oatmeal, bacon, country ham, sausage and french toast. It was good, too. In nicer weather the balconies and gardens would be a pleasant option. This is a great place for special occasions. Also, I saw on their website that they run half price specials during the week in the winter and spring.

We have not experienced their brunch or dinner, but did also stop in one day for an afternoon cocktail and appetizer. Every time we've been in, the interactions with the staff speak volumes about the quality of food and ambiance. The bartender not only told us about the unique syrups made in-house, she gave us a taste test of some of the best. We will definitely be back next year.

As many of you know, Bistro Roca recently suffered a devastating fire. While their beloved…read morerestaurant is out of commission, they've found a temporary home at the Hellbender Bed & Breakfast, where they're serving dinner and continuing to do what they do best: make some seriously fantastic food! My wife and I recently stopped in for an early dinner, bringing our four-legged dining companion along to enjoy the patio. And let me tell you, the experience was excellent from start to finish! We weren't particularly hungry, so we decided to share a wedge salad and a steak. Sometimes sharing a meal means sacrificing a little satisfaction. Not this time! Everything was absolutely phenomenal! The steak was cooked beautifully, the flavors were spot-on, and the entire meal left us wishing we'd brought bigger appetites. Of course, there's always room for dessert! We wrapped things up with a warm cookie served in a cast-iron skillet, which was the perfect sweet ending to an already wonderful meal. The cocktails were flavorful and definitely didn't skimp on the spirits! The atmosphere was lively, relaxed, and welcoming, and the service was excellent throughout our visit. Even with the change in scenery, Bistro Roca clearly hasn't missed a beat. But let's be clear about the most important thing: THE FOOD WAS HITTING! It's wonderful to see a local restaurant bounce back from such an unfortunate event, especially when they're still delivering the kind of quality and hospitality that makes people want to return. If you've been a fan of Bistro Roca, or even if you've never had the pleasure, I highly recommend making your way to their temporary home for dinner. Support a great local restaurant, enjoy a fantastic meal, and remind yourself why places like this are worth celebrating. To those about to nosh, WE ARE ENVIOUS OF YOU!

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!…read more I can be pretty picky when it comes to lodging. The Manor at Blowing Rock checked all my boxes, and then some! I would define it as "Sophisticated Simplicity". I was staying here for a personal getaway and was assigned to a beautiful room with a separate sitting room, a gorgeous bathroom, and a zen bedroom. The decor was lovely, stylish and tasteful. The staff was professional and helpful. It was quiet and relaxing and only a short walk away from the town center, perfect location! There is a pretty little creek that winds along the back garden area, I really enjoyed sitting out and watching the ducks. I am torn between keeping this little gem all to myself, and sharing its amazingness with the world! I can't wait to come back.

The Good: The hotel itself is beautiful and feels relatively new and well-maintained. My room was spacious, and I appreciated that the lobby was well-stocked with complimentary water and snacks. Free parking was another nice perk. The Not-So-Good: My reservation confirmation stated, "Complimentary pastries and fruit will be provided on the first morning." Unfortunately, I never received them. One thing I found particularly inconvenient was that there was only one bedside table. This meant there was no place to put or charge a phone on one side of the bed. To make matters worse, the USB charging port was located on the dresser on the opposite side of the room, which wasn't particularly useful. The TV worked fine the first night, but the following day, I could hear the sound but there was no picture. Housekeeping was another area that could use some improvement. Although the room was clean when I checked in, that level of attention didn't seem to continue throughout my stay. Basic supplies, such as toilet paper, weren't replenished, and I noticed that water from the shower was still on the bathroom floor after the room had been serviced. Overall: There is a lot to like about this hotel. It's beautiful, the rooms are spacious, and the complimentary amenities are appreciated. Unfortunately, some of the smaller details, particularly the room layout, maintenance, and housekeeping, took away from what could have been an excellent stay.

They have cold bottles of water available for guests at all times to grab as needed, though it would be nice if they had a water bottle filler on the property somewhere. The coffee and espresso machine in the room was also appreciated. While there are not many great views to be had, the location of the hotel was perfect for exploring Blowing Rock and we never had to worry about parking. I feel the hotel itself earns 4 stars but my 5th star is for the staff. Everyone there from the bartenders to the housekeeping staff were all friendly and helpful. The highlight of our trip however was Terry at the front desk. When we check in Terry was so welcoming and helpful. He gave us so many great recommendations and tips for our stay in Blowing Rock. I always looked forward to seeing him when returned in the evenings. He is not only an ambassador for The Embers Hotel but for Blowing Rock itself. I would completely recommend a stay at The Embers for any visit to Blowing Rock. We will certainly return.

This is a very new addition to Blowing Rock, built in 2024. And it shows, the place is spotless, modern and bright. The lobby has an amazing lounge and bar area with a full service fine dining style restaurant. Everything about is sleek and modern. We enjoyed an amazing evening at the bar and restaurant (separate review). Our room was immaculate, and again a very modern and sleek style. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, not a single complaint about the room or the cleanliness. And the views facing downtown Blowing Rock from the patio with the mountains in the background was superb. We enjoyed morning coffees and afternoon happy hours on this comfy patio overlooking the heart of Main St in downtown Blowing Rock. A pleasant surprise was the continental style breakfast which is included with the stay. A kicked up version with better food from what you'd expect at a Hampton Inn or comparable hotel. Highly recommend for a great stay in the heart of Blowing Rock!

The Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock, NC was our first time staying there. It was walkable from the…read moreextensive shopping area on Main Street and the website seemed to present a good place to stay. We booked through Expedia and paid through them also. The Inn itself had about 62 rooms but could use a bit of upgrades, not in the rooms which were furnished nicely with the standard being two queen beds. Added to that was a desk as well as two comfortable chairs, close to the window. Nothing at all was in the slightest wrong with the furnishings of the room. The problem I had was that the Wi-Fi never, ever was usable other than one time about 3:30 in the morning when I happened to wake up and read on my Kindle at that outrageous hour. I communicated with the front desk a number of times, probably three times for the 3 days when we stayed there. When I checked out I told the General Manager who was running the front desk that they needed some extenders or something regarding their Wi-Fi but she informed me that they had them at either ends of the hallway on the second floor (where all rooms are located) and in the middle. I thought perhaps our room 204 being at the end of the hall that was the problem but obviously it was not. Also advertised on its website was that they had a bar in the lower level but it was not open or usable with the explanation being that they did not have enough people using it to keep it open other than for the special events which were booked at the Inn. The parking area had 4 spaces close to the front door, but the rest were on higher ground, requiring a bit of exercise to reach the Registration desk. The Wi-Fi and the not open bar are the reason for the deduction of one star, almost exclusively due to the Wi-Fi. In addition to the rooms, other good attributes was a large indoor swimming pool and a sumptuous breakfast, served buffet style from 7:30 AM to 10 AM. The breakfast dining area had outdoor seating which we used on one cooly comfortable morning. Added to the metal tables and chairs with a covering umbrella was the joy of a dozen ducks. TIP: Ask at the desk for bags of seeds to feed the ducks, adding to the joy of the exterior, raised patio above a smaller water feature.

Due to reading current reviews on many platforms- it is not completely transparent on what you are receiving. First, the issues. In the years prior, Meadowbrook has offered a lovely accommodation with an exceptional breakfast experience. This is reflected in the majority of reviews on all platforms, including the Chamber of Commerce website for Blowing Rock. This breakfast experience is no longer offered- but the reviews are still reflecting this selling point. On a positive note, the location is excellent for access to Main Street and many of their lovely community events. In addition, the manager is very kind and when I expressed my disappointment in the changes, he offered a full refund. Since I was taking my husband for his birthday, the buffet breakfast was a highlight for him. I believe as long as guest are abreast of the new changes, it would not be a deal breaker for many. After all, it is a nice Inn.

We booked in advance over the phone. Check in and out were both super easy. The office has movies and books (even for kids) that you can borrow. They also have coffee, water, and ice available at all times. The room was very small-- two beds, bathroom, mini fridge, desk, and tv-- but that was okay since we didn't really spend any time other than sleeping and showering there. Someone came and emptied our trash, made our beds, and gave us fresh towels every day. Everything seemed nice and clean, zero complaints. Outside they have other little cabins and a fire pit with multiple chairs and maybe one picnic table. Really cute, well kept area! There were also several benches outside of the rooms where guest can sit and enjoy the weather, talk to each other, play music, etc. We frequently saw a lady outside her cabin painting the garden scenery. Blowing Rock seems to gather an older crowd, so being in our 20s and heavily tattooed, you get some looks. However, the staff at the inn was very friendly and enjoyed talking to our infant daughter.
