The Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock, NC was our first time staying there. It was walkable from the extensive shopping area on Main Street and the website seemed to present a good place to stay. We booked through Expedia and paid through them also. The Inn itself had about 62 rooms but could use a bit of upgrades, not in the rooms which were furnished nicely with the standard being two queen beds. Added to that was a desk as well as two comfortable chairs, close to the window. Nothing at all was in the slightest wrong with the furnishings of the room. The problem I had was that the Wi-Fi never, ever was usable other than one time about 3:30 in the morning when I happened to wake up and read on my Kindle at that outrageous hour. I communicated with the front desk a number of times, probably three times for the 3 days when we stayed there. When I checked out I told the General Manager who was running the front desk that they needed some extenders or something regarding their Wi-Fi but she informed me that they had them at either ends of the hallway on the second floor (where all rooms are located) and in the middle. I thought perhaps our room 204 being at the end of the hall that was the problem but obviously it was not. Also advertised on its website was that they had a bar in the lower level but it was not open or usable with the explanation being that they did not have enough people using it to keep it open other than for the special events which were booked at the Inn. The parking area had 4 spaces close to the front door, but the rest were on higher ground, requiring a bit of exercise to reach the Registration desk. The Wi-Fi and the not open bar are the reason for the deduction of one star, almost exclusively due to the Wi-Fi. In addition to the rooms, other good attributes was a large indoor swimming pool and a sumptuous breakfast, served buffet style from 7:30 AM to 10 AM. The breakfast dining area had outdoor seating which we used on one cooly comfortable morning. Added to the metal tables and chairs with a covering umbrella was the joy of a dozen ducks. TIP: Ask at the desk for bags of seeds to feed the ducks, adding to the joy of the exterior, raised patio above a smaller water feature. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Usually if a place has "Inn" in its name I think of old run down but this place was upgraded and VERY clean. You can tell they take pride in the cleanliness of this place. It's in a great location that is walkable to all the shops and restaurants and short drive to sight seeing or activities. We went in March so it wasn't super crowded. I was disappointed that the indoor pool was closed, that is one of the reasons I booked this place. But I love how they even had a nice little area for kids to play with games and coloring books. The staff was very nice. The breakfast was good too. I would book this place again. read more

Excellent inn, that is in a great location. It is great until the elevator maintenance is timely. When we stayed at the Meadowbrook Inn the visit was marred by the fact that two main elevators were out of service, making it quite difficult to move about the buildings. We were not made aware of the malfunctioning elevators before we arrived. Apparently, the elevator repair crew was two weeks late in arriving to repair the elevators that were out of service. We received no allowance in our rates charged during our visit or at check out I am handicapped and found this problem aggravating since there was no nearby parking for the handicapped guests. read more

Blowing Rock was the location for our summer business meeting/retreat. We were all glad to be out of the 90+ degree weather and high humidity. Meadowbrook Inn offered a respite from the heat and provided a great location to relax while getting work done. The Inn is located downtown. A very short walk to dining, shopping, and parks. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Hot showers with plenty of water pressure for an older facility. Plenty of parking with easy access to the lobby. The breakfast was excellent! Not your usual "continental breakfast". The baked apple pancake was amazing. The coffee was not the usual "hotel coffee". My only concern was the somewhat lazy staff at the front desk being aloof and not very welcoming. Otherwise, I hope to return and enjoy the amazing weather and views in the High Country. read more

I visited the Meadowbrook Inn as a part of a organizational retreat. It looks like they are renovated some of the rooms in the main building so all of our group was in the annex. The person at the front desk gave me a pretty lackluster welcome and check-in. The room was nice. Spacious. Great bed. Big bathroom. In-room fireplace. My room had an interesting feature. Where the doors may have typically lead to a balcony, mine lead to an enclosed sunroom of sorts. It was a feature I didn't use. Just kinda found it unusual. The food our group had was pretty good, breakfast especially. There was a spinach, egg, cheese dish that was basically creamed spinach. Two thumbs up. I was consistently disappointed with some of the front desk members. As we had questions about our group's plan (meals, meeting location, schedule). The answer was consistently "I don't know." with little offer for follow-up. We were in the Blue Ridge Boardroom for our meeting and it needs a major refresh. The 20 person-long board table wasn't conducive to collaboration. The room had a screen but no projector. It had a musty smell. It was windowless. It didn't meet the standard of the rest of the Inn. I would possibly stay here again but I'd likely consider other Blowing Rock options as well. read more

Attended a Porsche group event in town and this was the recommended hotel. Check in was fast and painless. The room was in the annex and was amazing. King bed, living room, jacuzzi tub, gas fireplace, balcony and, wait for it, a private pool! Since I was there working, I just skeptical and showered there, never took advantage of the other goodies. Parking was easy and close. Inn is walking distance to Main Street shopping and Kenny of food options. I did see places in the bathroom that should have been cleaned with a better eye. I'm fussy so I pulled a star. Price was $500/night. That's a wow to me... reason for the maybe. Beautiful area to visit. Great scenic driving and there is enough outdoor attractions to make the area a destination. read more

Wow - this place USED to be nice... we checked in a few days ago and the place is dirty. Our room ac sounded like a freight train - the vent was filthy and had not been cleaned in likely a year. The breakfast was awful - their Apple pancakes (which have been good in passed years) were like over baked with almost no apples and just thick pancake dough. The grounds are awful - overgrown and unkept. It is really sad as we have been going here for years but we are DONE now... you get what you pay for. There are other hotels nearby that are similar pricing but are so much cleaner and kept nice! The Management really needs to do something otherwise your customers will be one and done! read more

If I could put no stars I would. We just returned from a trip to Blowing Rock and stayed here. We were put into the separate building called the Annex. The hallways were filthy; the carpet was embedded with dirt; there are cobwebs everywhere... and that is BEFORE you get into the room. We had paint peeling (or maybe falling off) from the wall in the supposed sunroom. The paint in the bathroom was spotty with dark circles on the ceiling and above the bathtub; I can only imagine what that was! The bathtub which they bragged as a spa tub was an ancient tub with jets. Oh! And the elevator doesn't work, and they told us they don't intend to fix it so you have to drag your luggage upstairs on your own. Also... you appear to be a second class citizen if you make the mistake of booking through an online booking site. They made it clear to us that the $15 breakfast is included only if you book straight through them. Otherwise you have to pay $15 per person for an average breakfast. I have NEVER been in such a dirty hotel. Maybe it is different if you are honored with being placed in the main building. It's hard to say, but you can tell this facility and its grounds have been totally neglected. The outside of the building is worn and the grounds are overgrown with weeds. At the main desk it says this hotel has a 100% sanitation rating.That is a joke!!! They had to pay someone off for that. If you read reviews that tout this place, don't believe them. read more

Great inn to stay at - located in the middle of Blowing Rock and very accessible to lots of restaurants and bars! The hotel has an indoor and outdoor fireplace so you can enjoy your complimentary glass of wine at either one. The rooms are well kept and include a refrigerator. He was working at the front desk when we arrived at 10:30pm after a long day of traveling and he did a perfect job checking us in, getting us oriented and settled. We just spent 2 days at the Meadow Brook while visiting Blowing Rock and Grand Father Mountain. The facility is older but the bathrooms have been redone and are nice with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Service was thoughtful and engaging throughout our stay. When we first arrived there was a bottle of wine and a handwritten note welcoming us. The daily breakage was well stocked and the attendant kept everything full and tidy. My only complaint is that the air conditioner was super loud...so loud we had to adjust the tv volume each time it came on. Lastly, we locked the indoor pool and soft fluffy towels! Love love love. 3 minute check in with a friendly host who gave us 2 free wine vouchers. Daily cookies and cheese platter and the wine cart to turn in your vouchers is out. The ambiance reminds me of a novel. This is a best little secret. Breakfast was delicious and they have a fire pit that they will light for you around 7 pm on the terrace. Indoor pool so bring your swimsuits. 4 minutes from Appalachian ski mountain and close to Boone. Comfy beds. If your taller than 6 feet you will suck when you enter the bathroom if you stay in 115. Housekeeper was sweet she interacted with my son on the note pad in the room. Definitely worth the money and will stay again. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Meadowbook in August 2023. We had the room next to the elevator. If I went back I would look for another room, but the location was wonderful and area quiet. The other places I considered staying turned out to be near a huge construction site, and I would not have been pleased. read more

This is a beautiful hotel was AMAZING! The staff members were VERY helpful, our room was clean and had a beautiful view of their duck pond, and the breakfast was tasty. It was such a charming and cozy stay, and very safe with a lot of parking which was important. We received great food recommendations from Jacob at the front desk and their entire staff was super attentive and friendly and made sure to have all of our needs met. It had a bed and breakfast feel as if you were staying in someone's home. It was also well located and walking distance to amazing restaurants in town and a 35-45 minute drive to Grandfather mountain and many other natural attractions. Overall the stay was worth a lot more than we paid for it. We would recommend this hotel to all of our loved ones, 100% recommend you stay here on your next visit to Blowing Rock NC. read more

Location perfect (walking distance to everything), staff friendly, breakfast was pretty good, however hotel very tired and needs some elbow grease and updating. Since I use yelp for reviews I thought I would write one. Rugs stained, shower and sink did not drain properly which lead to standing water. Furniture old and broken....I think they could do better....we will be back to blowing rock but unfortunately will look for other lodging unless we see " newly renovated". read more

Great location. Obvious management issues. Having reserved a VIP suite, we stopped by 3 hrs prior to check -in to give them a "heads up" and let them know we were in town. Room was not ready. Okay! But their management did not ask housekeeping to get the room ready. We arrived back 15 mins prior to check-in. Still not ready until after strict check in time. Have never written a negative review, but the place is not as represented on the website. They said, "No housekeeping service due to COVID - only towels brought to the door." Interestingly, the staff was not wearing masks, nor were guests required to do so. Room is tired. Even tho in a VIP suite, we can hear ALL conversations by the lively family in adjoining room. read more

Same as Todd's experience. Had NO clue about booking reservations for the pool until AFTER I made the non refundable reservation. Luckily, we got a morning appt the next day but our kids would have been terribly disappointed. The AC was ridiculously loud. TV volume had to go up and down the whole time it came on/off. The one door between our room and our neighbors had at least a two inch space on the bottom of the door and we could easily hear us and visa versa. Very odd the doors are so short. Lastly, they offered individually wrapped cookies at the front desk area. Which was great, until we all took one (5 of us) and every one was an oatmeal raisin. I mean, right there, is a big F U unless you're a big fan of oatmeal raisin. How do you not have chocolate chip in the mix? Standard favorite amongst most. I appreciate the gesture but come on! The outside is cute, the rooms are large and it's very close to restaurants and shopping but for the price the beds are very cheap and uncomfortable(like motel 6 beds) at Hilton prices. We were in a room by the stair case and it was loud all night. I felt like I could hear people moving and talking from all over the hotel. My girlfriend and I decided we would celebrate New Years Eve in Blowing Rock, and in spite of the bitter cold, had a great time! I had only ever been here before for Thanksgiving dinner (another great experience), but my experience staying here was even better. The room, while a bit dated, was wonderful--we opted for the Pool Suite, and it was a unique experience unlike any other I've seen anywhere else. On the top level, our room had a well appointed living room with a gas fireplace, a large bedroom with a comfortable king sized bed, and a bathroom with a double jacuzzi. However, the best part was below. At the back of our room, there was a door to a stair case that led down to the lower level where there was a heated 16x8 4 foot deep heated PRIVATE pool that even came equipped with rafts, beach towels, and robes. While it was zero degrees outside, this was a heck of a luxury to be able to enjoy. Parking and check-in were easy, and the location was awesome too--pretty much everything downtown Blowing Rock had to offer, from restaurants and bars to shops and art galleries, was an easy 10-15 minute walk away. They also offered discounts to all the main local attractions such as Tweetsie Railroad and the Alpine Ski mountain. Great experience, and one I'll definitely repeat! read more

Really cute place! Unlike other reviewers, I thought our room was very clean and nice .... Except that they forgot to give us maid service on the second day! We had a jacuzzi tub with two shower heads, enclosed patio deck, and a fireplace. It's decorated cute and quaint, not modern - fit perfectly with Blowing Rock. I got a groupon for $42 a night and it was a great deal, I would stay again! Adequate breakfast buffet, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and pastries. The room was nothing like the picture. It was a simple room. I've stayed in better. I did like the fireplace. Not much decor at all. The bed... hard as a rock!! My back ached so bad. The bathtub, the water wouldn't get as hot as I like. The hydrotherapy tub would cut off about every 5min. The lighting in the hallway was very dirty. The people at Meadowbrook Inn are very nice, in person! On the phone you roll the dice if you get the right person you get a different response. My colleague called to reserve her room right after I did. My reservation at the state rate went smoothly and the person on the phone was pleasant, efficient and helpful. I reminded my colleague that the deadline to get the state rate was tomorrow, so she picked up the phone to call while I was standing there. I walked away and she came to my office fuming. The person who took her reservation informed her that the state rate was no longer available and was very abrupt when she informed her that I had just made a reservation and received the reduced rate. According to my colleague the encounter was very unpleasant. She called back though and another employee gave her the rate and apologized. So, ok out of the gate we have a negative experience. Then we travel over 2 hours to Blowing Rock for a week long conference. Upon arrival we can clearly see this place needs a complete makeover. It's old and outdated. As check in is slow but goes fine and then I try to get to my room. I say try because the darn elevator would NOT stop on my floor to let me off. It would go up and the door would not open! Back on the ground floor, however, the door opens. I figured that I must have punch the wrong floor so I get back in and try again but again it rides up but the door opens only slightly and back down to the ground. This time I am really unnerved so I turn my back to the door in Oder to pull my luggage out after me. I decide no matter what I'm going to get off this death trap (slight exaggeration). That's when I see the sign "The Elevator is Not Working." hanging in the back of the elevator in the corner. Not prominently displayed OUTSIDE the elevator as to warn you not to get on in the first place. After that adventure the stay was mediocre at best. I found hairpins on the desk and the bed which made me wonder if the room had been cleaned. In the bathroom there was hair on the floor. I asked for a cleaning and the young man was apologetic and gave me all new clean linen including bedspread and cleaned the bathroom thoroughly. The next morning I got into the strangest shower ever! The shower was inside a huge old jetted tub. But there were shower heads on two ends and separate controls. You had to guess which operated which with no markings for hot or cold. There's a small dining room with a nondescript breakfast buffet. Nice people, but not a great place to stay. It's under new management so let me know if things improve. read more

On booking the room for the weekend of July 10,11 we were told the pool was open and the breakfast buffet was still available. At check in we were informed that the pool was by reservation only, and their Restaurant was closed - No Breakfast Buffet Instead we were offered a cold and unappealing "Hiker Bag" We asked for an accommodation on the rate, but was blown off by the front desk staff. I understand Covid restrictions, but they could have offered a hot cooked breakfast that we would have ordered. Will not be staying there again read more

We spent one night here in November 2016 and that was enough. I have been trying, unsuccessfully to contact the General Manager Lisa Alexander but to no avail. We selected Meadowbrook Inn based on what we saw advertised on their website and in speaking with their front desk clerk. I mentioned how gorgeous everything looked online and how excited we were to have lucked out and that that special room was available. He went right along with it and never mentioned that it was not as advertised. I was excited to surprise my husband with a great place to stay for the night (fires in NC had us changing our plans at the last minute) but this (see pic below) is what is we got. In addition, the refrigerator was unplugged when we arrived so it smelled awful and water was dripping throughout. We called up to the clerk at the front desk and he brought us towels to clean it up ourselves which we did. I still am not sure why we did...The spa tub was old and didn't look at all inviting and the door didn't close. We requested a late checkout but received a call from the clerk letting us know that we were LATE in checking out (they didn't make a note of our late check out request) and besides that...I have never in my life received a call that I was beyond (original) check out time. Go figure! When we went to check out, I asked to speak to a manager and the clerk said that the General Manager, Lisa Alexander, was on the phone so I waited. After several minutes standing at the desk, the clerk let me know, Ms. Alexander would not have time to speak with me as she had a meeting, so I left my contact information with the issues we had experienced. The hours went by and she didn't call so I called her again and wound up leaving another message. She didn't return that call, either. Several days passed and so I decided to email her, she never responded. I called and asked to speak with Ms. Alexander's supervisor but was told she didn't have one nor would they give me the name of the owner or anyone else with whom I could speak. This morning, 1/17/17, I called again and was told (again) that there was no one above Ms. Alexander with whom I could speak and once again no owner information would be provided. At this point, it is the principle of the matter for me, as what was meant to be a lovely anniversary stay was made sour by false advertising and poor service. Hard-earned money gone to waste. Had we not arrived after 6pm (displaced due to the fires), in November, during peak-season in the mountains, we would have gone elsewhere in a heartbeat. Lastly, one small thing, but with this Inn charging Chetola Resort prices, it warrants the mention, the WiFi should work. It is as advertised as "rated excellent". It was intermittent at best. I stayed here for one night back in May for my cousin's bachelorette party. She chose the location because it is within walking distance to all of the bars, pubs and restaurants in downtown Blowing Rock. VERY CONVENIENT. We got a room with 2 queen beds for $85 for the night. Very reasonable. The room was very clean. There was a sofa in the room but it was not a sleeper. Sleep quality was great. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Our room was right off the lobby and had a sliding door that connected to the back shared patio. It was very nice. It was a Thursday night so not many people there at all. If there was a loud crowd it was us, being the bachelorette party and all. They had a free hot breakfast buffet in the morning that was great. Biscuits, gravy, waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal, bagels, fruit, coffee and just. Great quality. My only complaints: No mini-fridge in the room. They did have vending machines on the second floor but only for SODA. No bottled water. After a night out on the town and wanting some water - only soda options was no bueno for the morning after. I would definitely come back. Make sure your room isn't near any bachelorette parties! I did learn that the hotel recently updated most of their mattresses (at least in the main building) so that was a plus. read more

Traveling to the mountains isn't like anywhere else. Most of the buildings are older, they've sustained inclement weather and tons of tourists yearly. Most likely you won't find anywhere that isn't run down a touch. But that is the charm that is this area. The people aren't run down at all :) This is such a wonderful tight-knit community with a very high percentage of happy and hard workers. That being said, we were very happy at the Meadowbrook Inn. I had read reviews before I placed the reservation, and I really wanted to see for myself, especially considering the location. It is tucked away a couple blocks from the shopping at Main Street and it was perfect for us to make our way back and forth shopping and eating and what-not. The most important factors for us: It was a safe place Very clean Very quiet Our car was safe It was walking distance to eating/shopping The staff was helpful The jacuzzi tub in our room was big and nice. We didn't use the pool, and the restaurant was closed for two weddings, but that forced us to go out and explore and we're glad we did. We'd absolutely go back :) read more

I stayed there a few times as a guest, most importantly the night before my wedding. I got this amazing suite - large area, big bedroom, separate lounge room - but the downstairs had its own private pool. Not much that is cooler than a last bachelor night with the groomsmen in our own private pool till 3am. I also rented a block of rooms that filled out with our guests, all of whom were very happy at Meadowbrook. It's a pretty area, the duck pond is nice, the gazebo and main entrance are all very pretty, and the staff is very nice and accommodating. Complimentary breakfast is better than most, with eggs, fruit and bagels and quite a few options. As mentioned the Inn is within walking distance from the main strip, so you can go shopping at the music store or hat store or ice cream/cookie place, or visit the highly recommended Six Pence pub, without getting in the car. But what makes Meadowbrook truly above and beyond, to me, was my rehearsal dinner. We worked with their staff over the months to perfectly plan the dinner, and they came through in a big way - Erin went out of her way to ensure things were perfect. Having 50 satisfied guests, from a different culture - accommodating my last minute musician booking - including our special drinks from the bar - and going above and beyond to get our special, non-standard delicacies...the serving staff led by Ani was tremendous too. Meadowbrook isn't just a hotel - it's a great place to hold a conference or special event such as a rehearsal dinner. The staff will go above and beyond - at times, fighting with my main venue, I was tempted to hold the entire wedding at Meadowbrook because of how great they were. A big thanks. read more

When I asked about the pool she said it was open to 4pm and only by reservation. I said how about 3pm? She said, all the times are booked. Really? Started to ask if the 3pm reservation didn't show up, could she let me know. It was like totally out of her way to do that. An older woman stepped in and said that would be fine. At 3pm I checked and 2 people were in the pool! The AC in the room was so loud that we had to turn the TV up every time it came on. I'm sure the people in the next room enjoyed that, because the walls were so thin, we could hear almost everything from their room. In the morning we were told there were 'hikers bags' or something like that for breakfast. In the morning, we heard someone ask and they said, we don't have any.
