But I'm so glad we didn't make our first visit here in the winter. We would have never gotten up to the condo with how steep the roads were. Our condo was clean and well equipped but we won't return because it wasn't convenient to anything we enjoy doing. Also, as a Verizon customer we had no internet. That was unnerving. I think if you plan on cooking, have a 4x4 vehicle, and don't want to do much other than cook and enjoy the views in your condo, this is a great choice. But we are active with our kids and it was a chore to get on and off the property.

Now I…read moreknow why the outside pictures didn't show much -- the roadway to the facility was treacherous. It is definitely not for anyone apprehensive of heights. The road to the complex is extremely narrow that makes me question if an emergency vehicle or fire truck could navigate it. In addition to it being narrow, it is a windy road on a cliff with no guard rails. I had a panic attack on the drive up; thankfully, I wasn't the driver. When we turned to road with the gated entrance, it was gravel, overgrown, and we couldn't even see past the gate. And this was at 5:30pm with full daylight. I was so panicked that my husband thought I was going to have a heart attack. We immediately turned around & made our way back down the horrid road, riding the brake the entire time & with a vehicle right on our bumper who apparently wasn't as upset as we were. Thank goodness no vehicle came in the opposite direction. I do feel there should have been some hint as to this "feature" of the facility. If I had known of this, there is no way I would have chosen this place for our well-deserved restful weekend. We ended up going back home & lost our money.

I would define it as "Sophisticated Simplicity". I was staying here for a personal getaway and was assigned to a beautiful room with a separate sitting room, a gorgeous bathroom, and a zen bedroom. The decor was lovely, stylish and tasteful. The staff was professional and helpful. It was quiet and relaxing and only a short walk away from the town center, perfect location! There is a pretty little creek that winds along the back garden area, I really enjoyed sitting out and watching the ducks. I am torn between keeping this little gem all to myself, and sharing its amazingness with the world! I can't wait to come back.

The staff is immeasurably kind, the other folks staying in the house and cottages around you cannot help but share in this kindness. It's like going to a family reunion while also having peace and space to yourself. The rooms are the definition of comfort - and yes, tv's are nowhere to be found. It's a freeing feeling where you can just focus on those around you. Small radios are in each room and old radio stories on cd are available for your enjoyment during your stay. There's large clawfoot tubs large enough for two, and each item is delicately chosen to stay within the realm of an old farmhouse from long ago. There are treats and coffee available at all hours of the day and night, a delicious breakfast that is 2nd to none, and a social every day with meats, vegetables, and cheeses that is unlike anything you've had before. We decided to enjoy ours on the front porch in rocking chairs and I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole stay! The town around the Inn is stunningly charming. It feels like one should be walking or taking a wagon from the Inn, rather than driving, to the General Store or to Over Yonder restaurant which is just a short distance from the Inn. I cannot speak highly enough of this B&B. We will definitely be back and if you're considering staying, consider no longer. Reserve now!

Management, Please know that we have chosen to depart early from the Cousin Sarah suite. While we appreciate historical sites and consider ourselves history buffs, this suite is unacceptable. I have attached a few photos of areas needing attention but the most notable was the bed. My husband and I could not stay another night on this mattress. It has no center support and we kept rolling towards the center all night. Additionally it is too soft. Perhaps firmness is of personal preference, however, it truly is past its useful life. It felt as if there was a piece of foam laid over the mattress in order to extend its life. In regard to the photos, a deep cleaning is in order, attention to detail as well as fresh paint and we would happily pay more in order to stay at such a North Carolina landmark. We appreciate your understanding and wish you and your business all the best.

I was there with a few friends and we made a full day of the spa experience which really makes getting a treatment a great value because you get to enjoy the spa for the whole day. We started off with a workout in the gym and then changed into the soft and plush spa robes to soak up the mountain views in the relaxation room. The relaxation room is amazing - two stories high with bunches of couches and loungers and a fireplace surrounded by a wall of windows over looking the mountains. Oh and there are teas and fruit and magazines and seriously, it is heaven in there. I had a spa facial and even upgraded to include a paraffin wax mask. I've had a number of facials over the years and this was an excellent experience. After the treatments, we had lunch ($20 and worth every penny). Lunch included four small but delicious and beautifully presented courses. Note - you need to reserve lunch ahead of time. After lunch, we changed into bathing suits and relaxed in the heated pool and hot tub until it was getting time to go. Last but definitely not least was a scented shower with everything you need (and more) provided, including some wonderful salt scrub. Westglow Spa is five stars and then some, especially if you come prepared to enjoy all they offer. Come prepared if you want to enjoy the gym and/or pool with workout clothes and your bathing suit!

Although there were only a very few other customers/clients there, the staff seemed very stressed out and was not welcoming. There seemed to be a lot of communication issues between staff and management, and we observed a woman who seemed to be the owner openly yelling a small group in formalwear taking photos and also at the GM. It was extremely unprofessional. I'm very surprised at the lack of warmth and customer service, especially since there are so many other fantastic resorts, spas and venues in the area, like Chetola, Eseeola, and the Inn at Crestwood as competition. I have been to all of the others that I have listed, and had a significantly better experience at each.

CHETOLA RESORT, BLOWING ROCK: THE GOOD, BAD & UGLY…read more So many difficulties with these people including the front desk staff & manager. 1. First, let me state that CHETOLA, on the outside exterior, is a beautiful place, landscaping, manicured grounds, small lake; just a special place. Really nice appearance. Then, you go inside: 2. After check-in, front desk staff immediately overcharged my AMEX by $1,132.38 for a 3-night stay, even after I had paid a deposit of ~$400 weeks before. This overcharge in itself was as much as my initial 3-night room stay as quoted by CHETOLA. This made my nightly room cost almost $800/night for a standard 2 Bdrm hotel room. So, I spent almost an hour the next day showing them how absurd and stupid that charge was. Finally, she admitted their mistake and, of course, blamed it on the "System" instead of herself. A Credit was finally issued. So, I waste an hour of vacation time being harassed by CHETOLA RESORT as to my final room charge. 3. Then, the 1st night my wife is showering in 3"-4" of waste bath water because the drain backs up. And, of course I face the same filthy waste water when I shower the next morning. So, waste time again and go to the front desk and ask for maintenance to unplug shower drain. And their reply is always, "oh yes sir, our folks will unplug that today, no problem." (REALLY??). 4. And that 1st morning, my wife cannot even put her makeup on at the small desk provided in the room. Unbelievable, because there is NO LIGHT anywhere on that side of the room. There should be either a wall light or a table lamp at the desk area, where people work, read, makeup, etc. So, my wife has to sit at the balcony to do makeup. 5. Speaking of NO LIGHTS on that side of room, the coffee maker was in such a dark location, again no light. You could hardly see where the water is poured into maker. Wife had to get out her small flashlight so we could see adequately. It is obvious that CHETOLA has deliberately cut costs everywhere they can, even at the inconvenience of their guests. DAMN RIDICULOUS. 6. At 2nd night, guess what is happening in the shower?? Wife is showering once again in 3"-4" of bath wastewater. Obviously, no one did a damn thing that day to unplug the shower drain. No one checked on it, no one called to see if everything OK, NOTHING from CHETOLA staff or management. 7. Next morning again to the front desk and request a manager to solve the problem. Out comes "Warren" and I barely start to explain the problem and lack of attention to it by the maintenance dept when he begins to interrupt my conversation. Only to state what a great maintenance staff they have and it will be unplugged. He seemed like an automatic robot only saying what they apparently teach these people to say when they know they have a problem, but won't admit it to the guest. He continually interrupted us to state his prepared bull____. 8. I told him how damn RIDICULOUS & DISTURBING it was that my wife & I are spending a lot of vacation time trying to correct their own damn problems INTERNALLY that are directly affecting us during this stay. Overcharging fiasco, no maintenance for 2 days while we wash in dirty waste water. Not even mentioning the lack of adequate lighting in the room. He was almost rude in the way he kept interrupting our problems and he would not entertain anything that would at least show they wanted to makeup for their internal problems and the difficulty it was making for our lost vacation time. 9. As stated earlier, it is a beautiful resort on the outside exterior, but internally it is a DAMN JOKE and highly DISRESPECTFUL to their guests. At least in our case it was. "Warren" should be sent back to Hotel 101 school and taught how to listen and help guests who are dismissed by his manners (or lack thereof) and train him and the front desk staff who are inadequately prepared in Guest Relations.

Our favorite part was the location. It was so conveniently located. They have a front door with access to king street and a back door to Howard street which was convenient. We were able to come and go easily. The rooms aren't huge but had everything we needed including a mini fridge and the shower was really nice. Of note- it didn't have a huge window in the room, just a small one towards the ceiling. There was a tv with lots of channels and a channel guide. We received some coupons and recommendations to nearby businesses which was a nice touch. Our experience was a bit different because it was very snowy so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop bar. The parking was also tricky- they have a loading zone right in front for checking in, but we circled the block several times and it was taken every time so it was kind of a pain to unload our car. We also had trouble finding the parking lot (even with the address, directions and map) which is behind the hotel, across the street and diagonal from the hotel. We had to circle a few times to find it. But that may have just been because it was dark and snowing. Our favorite part was definitely the breakfast. It is at the downstairs bar. It is complementary when you purchase the parking pass, and you order what you want from a menu. They have lots of options, including fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and lots of pastries and baked goods from stick boy bakery in town. We love stick boy so this was amazing! So high quality and tasty! They also have other things available for purchase like avocado toast. They also have coffee from a local coffee shop available all day. We would go back!!!
