In fact if you have any project at all, the employees can provide assistance. We were making our dining table out of a live edge slab and they didn't have what we needed just provided us with other store suggestions. But back to the classes, if you've never worked on a lathe machine before, no need to be intimidated they'll show you the ropes. It's our Christmas tradition every year to make little wood ornaments. They have wood workshops on the weekend but the only thing I'd note is that to try/operate most machinery you must be 18+ and waivers are required. read more

3 hours ago I ordered a flexcut chisel set and draw knife on Monday, April 20th. The chisels were on sale, and they also offered an additional $25 off. I checked the order status everyday as I was excited to recieve my new tools! My order sat in limbo until Friday the 25th, when it was cancled! When I called to find out why, I was put on hold for 15 minutes and then disconnected! I called back and spoke to someone who claimed my payment sent up a red flag. But I can reorder the items now if I want. Very convenient when the $25 off coupon AND the sale price of the chisels expired on the 24th! I ordered from Rockler OnLine due to store being out of stock! When it arrived they had shipped items in the original packaging via UPS and two of the boxes were completely towrn open. One box all of the hardware was missing. I called Rockler on line and they said they would ship me all of the hardware at no charge! Was checking the UPS APP AND one week later it was on the truck in my area when Rockler recalled the package! I called and they said I don't know why maybe because they left of avenue in my address. They said they will reship to me again at no charge and would send me a conformation email. Well no email so I called again this morning and they said it shipped and sorry! Actual experts worked in this hardware store! I went to three diff Home Depots and this was the only store that sold non-toxic wood stains. Not only that, Rockler associates were able to make real recommendations about how to use what products where. I spoke with Aileen at Rockler who was knowledgeable and helpful about woodworking. She answered all my questions and even wrote down notes for me to take home. I'm not necessarily looking for that in a hardware store, per se, but bonus points for going above and beyond. read more

Came here today, the staff was great and extremely helpful but I could barely stand to be in the store because their air conditioning was out. I considered leaving because I was dripping sweat so I asked if if was going to be fixed by tomorrow and they had no clue. Its June in Los Angeles, having a store without ac is just unacceptable. With the closing a few years ago of Arroyo Hardwoods, Rockler is THE ONLY place in the San Gabriel Valley at which you can purchase a wide range of hardwoods used in woodworking. The nearest other hardwood good hardwood source is near Santa Monica. Ganahl Lumber has some of the standards, such as oak, walnut and maple, but not the more exotic wood species that woodworkers crave. Rockler also stocks a huge array of woodworking tools and supplies, stains and finishes, fasteners, and about everything else a woodworker might need. The staff are all knowledge woodworkers themselves. Unlike the big box lumber yards, staffers are readily available to assist customers in finding the item being needed, working out unresolved questions about a project, etc. Their in-store hardwood selection is large, but not infinite. You can order items online that are not stocked in the store, and have them delivered to the store so that you don't have to pay shipping charges. They also will cut segments off a long piece of stock, so you don't have to buy wood that you don't need. Just don't expect them to cut for exact size for your project, or rip boards. We were in the Market for a CNC or Laser cutter and really didn't know which to get. A quick chat with a Daniel Norton and we were sold on Shapertools Origin. He went out of his way and answered some questions even at night when I knew he wasn't working. I headed to the store he works for which turned out to be Rockler. I met with such a great knowledgeable group that really helped us complete the sale. I know what I wanted to do but didn't know the right tools I needed. We left with our Shapertool and some other really cool tools that I'm excited to learn on and some of the most beautiful wood I've ever seen. Today went to make an even exchange at Rockler Orange. The older man sold me the wrong size router bit the week before Christmas. I exchanged the exact one I bought for $34.99 and only got credit for $25.50 to get the exact one! The old man was really nice when I bought it and assured me it would fit any size router. When I went to exchange it the same old man was not so nice and said it required a receipt to do an even exchange. They take your phone number when a purchase is made, not sure why because they won't look it up. Originally I went in to get a $100 gift card and got talked into the purchase instead because he could return for the right size bit. Nope! Save your receipt for your items and don't let old guy talk you into anything! read more

Today I went into my favorite Rockler store in Pasadena and was instantly greeted with smiling faces from the staff members working there. My wife and I instantly felt a warm and receptive welcome. We are in the process of making a number of new wood projects for use as Christmas gifts for our family and friends. While we were still unfamiliar with the "How To" to bring our projects to fruition, the sales staff provided a number of suggestions and recommendations to us. Their assistance was very helpful and very much appreciated. This sales staff walked us through the isles explaining each of the necessary supplies as well as some step by step instructions for our project. This was a tremendous help as it will minimize wasted material and time. We are so grateful for the staff there. But that is only a part of this review. Every once in a while someone really steps up to the challenge of excellent Customer Service and for us that is the Sales Representative only known to me as Jeanette. She was simply amazing through her support, encouragement and assistance. Jeanette has helped me on numerous occasions and so this review is long overdue. She is so well informed with the inventory, instruction and use of all the items in the store and so very helpful. When I first started Turning wood, she took me by the hand and gave me personal step by step instructions as I was so very naïve about the process. To this day, I can still hear her voice when Turning wood, her Guidance, Instruction and Safety are always with me. Jeanette is very knowledgeable and helpful, through her education, training and experience "she absolutely takes a personal interest in her customer service", giving her time and sharing her skill set at all times. Her helpfulness stands head and shoulders above what is considered good customer service. Her solid work ethic is a combination of her honesty, integrity, trustworthiness and true Character. I want to thank Jeanette for all of her assistance and for the time she graciously provides me. Went in store today looking for wood planks to make floating wooden shelves on wall. I know nothing about wood, however Don was SUPER helpful and patient. He helped me understand from staining to coating, he also explained the milling process and the possible measurements of the wood planks I'd be getting after the milling process. Even though I didn't make a purchase yet, I came up knowing learn a lot about wood and how to go about looking for my wooden shelves. This a good store and most of the employees are very nice. The stuff is overpriced but there is a great selection of woodworking equipment there. I always spend mor money then planned when I go there. Some due to the prices and some due to great selection. I recommend keeping your receipts and definitely registering any bigger saws/sanders/ presses you buy from them to avoid any warranty issues if they arrive. read more

I had the drawer slide for my dresser break and was looking for router bits to figure out how to make a replacement part when the staff asked me what I was trying to do. I explained and he instantly said, "I know what you need" and grabbed a replacement drawer slide assembly made of hardwood. $10 later, I had the parts I needed and it was easier than trying to setup the router table and cheaper than getting the dovetail cutters I would need.
