Delicious and fresh food! The staff was polite and pleasant. Our drinks were staggered coming out but overall good experience. Plenty of seating with harbor views.

A very quiet February night on the old pier in Monterey, we took an Uber over from the Seven Gables, about $20. The pier was empty, a couple here and there certainly not like the day in mid summer. Weather was and has been spectacular and the stars were showing off tonight! We walked to the end of the pier, I've been here several times over the years. As we were seated there were only four tables with dinner guests, that's how slow it was. We knew M was going to "sample" the chowder and she did. A new rule was instated a while back...no fish n' chips unless there are fried shrimp too. wouldn't you know the Fisherman's Platter had it all, calamari too. So we got our cup of chowder and we shared the platter. The chowder was too perfect and I'd question whether this was made on the premises or just stirred up in the back. The Platter well...Let's say it was a decent meal for one but we made it work for us. Slightly over cooked didn't help justify the price they were charging. From the iced tea not being refilled to reminding the server with "some ranch dressing please", I got the feeling that the chef and manager overseeing the operation tonight wasn't happening. I felt sorry for Raymondo our server the only guy left working the floor, so we tipped well. I think we'll try one of the other half a dozen places next time. Foodguy-Martin

Haven't been to the wharf in a few years and when we did we always had a good dining experience, albeit a bit pricey. On this trip we decided to try Rockfish. This was our first time. It was just about noon but the the restaurant was nearly empty, except for one table of four. We seated at a nice table with a view of the bay and harbor. Lots of boats and seals to watch. The waiter came by in short order and took our drink and food order. I ordered the sourdough crab sandwich and my wife had the fish tacos. Two things. One, the entire restaurant empty they chose to seat a large noisy party right next to us. Two, they chose to clean the windows during service? I actually had to move out of the way while eating while the guy wiped the windows during service next to me. Now the food. We both started with the clam chowder which was very good but they don't give any sourdough, you have pay for it? We opted for crackers instead. My sandwich was grilled nicely but the crab did not taste fresh to my mind. It tasted more like canned crab. I love Dungeness crab and grew up in the Bay Area where it was readily available. I asked the waiter and he assured me it was made fresh daily from fresh crab. My wife's tacos were portioned generously and she said the fish tasted good but they over did the aioli sauce. Overall given the location, the price and the service it was just ok.

Pretty good! It's hard to know where to go on the boardwalk because there are so many restaurants that seemingly look the same and feature similar menus. I had the rockfish tacos that were really good. Firecracker shrimp was also delicious and side of fries was very hardy and could feed the table. Views were great! Service was lacking but food and views made up for it.

My meal was delicious. I ordered the stuffed salmon with crab meat, mozzarella, spinach and mashed potatoes and veggies. Had bread pudding for dessert (yummy). My husband had the spicy fried chicken sandwich that was cooked to perfection. Everything was so good. The service was constant. Meaning it was good to have someone checking on you but like 2-3 people almost every 5 minutes like they were rushing you became a little irritating but after you let them know I'm good, just give me a few minutes then they leave you alone for awhile. That way you can have a full conversation without being interrupted. Ambiance was nice. We had a few sea lions swimming near us. Great view even though it was a cloudy day. 4 out of 5 for service and 5 out of 5 for food.

At the end of the wharf easy to find. Amazing menu of delicious seafood and pleasant atmosphere. I sat at the bar and was greeted and served professionally by the bar tender. Rafael was awesome! Sand dabs were yummy and so was my day here in Monterey.

Loved the clam chowder and the fries here. My friend and I split the crab melt sandwich and all I could really taste was the bread and cheese..nothing to get excited about. They weren't super busy and our server could have been a bit more attentive with refills, but the view was nice and it was an overall okay lunch. Don't skip the fries!

Rockfish Harbor Grill is a winner! Killer panoramic views of Monterey Bay and the harbor. Loved the Harbor Seafood Pasta--jumbo shrimp, scallops, clams, fresh fish in a delicious garlic-white wine sauce. Fresh, loaded, and spot-on! Desserts were delicious and indulgent, service super friendly and attentive. Perfect waterfront seafood spot--definitely recommend!

I'm surprised at the low rating given to this restaurant. The service was a bit slow but they got the food out hot. Drinks weren't filled as quickly as we'd like but everything was correct. We loved sitting by the window and watching the otters play. The food was excellent. We also ordered the oysters but unfortunately no pics we ate them so fast. They were big and fresh. The restaurant was clean and tables were bussed quickly and turned over.

Beautifully resting on the edge of the pier, beautiful views and super kind staff, accommodating for our little one which that was wonderful. The food was good for the most part, we just ordered shared plates... Artichoke was good but had a thorn on one of the leaves and i got stung. The aioli was delicious and the rest of the choke was good. The calamari was by far my favorite, perfectly seasoned and fried pieces. My husband got the oyster on half shelf he liked them but have had better. And lastly we both had the clam chowder i was indifferent and my husband loved it, idk if my tongue being injured threw me off the entire meal. Overall still a good experience.

The calamari was really good the batter flavor with the lemon hit the spot. The individual pieces were big like nuggets instead of the usual small pieces. The seafood pasta was a bit over cooked but not they sure do pack on the seafood, overall it was good. The scampi was good had a bit of tomato flavor though. Overall everything was good but the highlight for me was the calamari.

We ate fairly early on a weekday for dinner and were seated immediately with a nice view of the harbor. The waitstaff were all friendly, efficient, and attentive. The food was EXCELLENT and reasonably priced. I was most excited to try the crab and artichoke gratin, and I was delighted with it. It was a decently-sized portion and delicious. We decided to go with lighter entrees - my partner ordered the grilled crab sourdough sandwich and I had the blackened rockfish sandwich. Both were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and just wonderful. The fries were skinny and lightly battered - somehow fluffy and crispy at the same time. I'd happily eat here again and recommend it to others.

This was my first time visiting. I enjoyed my dinner here during the week with my wife and son. Upon entering we had to leave our stroller at the door, which was fine, they offered us a high chair. We got to enjoy our dinner with a table on the window over looking the water. We started with the basket of garlic cheese bread. It was good, but honestly nothing special. I did have parts of bread where my cheese wasn't even melted, but not a deal breaker. I enjoyed the fisherman platter, everything was cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her pasta. We both ordered strawberry lemonades, which were just pink lemonade with strawberries in syrup added. We were asked if we would like them refilled, which we agreed. It wasn't until the bill came that I realized that they charged us for refills. Most restaurants have free refills, especially when the bill was over 100 dollars. Bummer. But over all the food was good.

I ordered a bowl of chowder. Thick and gooey. Like a bowl from the 70s. No bread or crackers. For a seafood restaurant very disappointing.

They have a small lot with parking, which is fine if you get there early. You pick up a menu from the counter and order, then grab a table and wait for the buzzer to go off. The space is casual and stuff is served on paper plates, so this is not a date night place! It's really cute with all of their nautical themed decorations. They also have a bunch of merchandise and food related gift items, if you're looking for the perfect souvenir. Employees were friendly and helpful. We ordered these items: Fish and Chips - highly recommended! They're fresh and have that classic flavor you're craving. We saw a lot of folks getting this one. Not a surprise! You get 4 hearty pieces, hot and crisp. The "chips" had a bit of batter and were crisp on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Perfect! Comes with a tiny scoop of coleslaw. Sablefish with butter - the person at the counter said it just came in today. It was super fresh and cooked just perfectly. Sablefish isn't super fatty nor dry, it's just perfect. Veggies were fresh and cooked throughly with just a touch of crunch. Rice pilaf is quite flavorful and delicious, just a touch greasy, but in a good way! Sand Dabs - DH noticed this special after we already ordered, but he couldn't resist. Cost was based on weight + $8 for cooking. They were lightly battered and absolutely delicious. Clam Chowder (smallest size) - surprisingly good too. They must've improved their recipe since the last time we ate here. It's very thick and hearty with delicious, sweet, small pieces of clam. Overall, a fun place for a fresh, casual meal. You'll need to bus your own table after eating. Bathrooms are outside in the back. It's not as crowded as the fancier restaurants. Kids loved the food. Not only are they a local and Yelper-favorite restaurant, but they were also listed in the exclusive Michelin Guide as recently as 2019. The Good: * Located away from the wharf and Cannery Row, so you don't have to deal with all the nonsense those two come with. * Private parking lot, as well as street parking. * Prices aren't too shabby considering the location. * Service was a bit odd, but friendly enough. * Their house-made linguini was very good and worth the extra $6 upgrade. * Veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly. * Beers on tap and in bottles, as well as wine. * I liked the flavor from the oak grill. The Meh: * Hard to complain about free bread, but just watch me. The bread was stale and not fresh at all. Even the pats of butter weren't enough to save it. * The Diablo sauce was all gas and no brakes. It needed a little sweetness and acid to complement the spice. * Carissa's penne pasta was waaayyyyyy overcooked. And so was her salmon. The Ugly: * WTF is this second menu they have? I shit you not, the poor waiter had to recite what must have been over twenty off-menu items. It was mildly amusing at first, but then you realize you're supposed to actually absorb all of this? It's got to be some kind of inside joke with the staff. No way it's real. * The clam chowder was watery and not thick at all. Not to mention, the flavor just wasn't good, and there weren't many clams. * My tuna steak was just not good. It didn't taste very fresh and had an off texture. I thought for sure I was going to get food poisoning from it, but luckily that didn't happen. Conclusion: I hate shitting on an institution like this, but it is what it is. It appears their better days are behind them, as there's probably a good reason they lost their Michelin recommendation.

Attached to the Municipal Pier like an adorable, nautical-themed barnacle, the Sandbar & Grill immediately felt like a locals-only safe harbor from the hustle and bustle of the tourist-focused Old Fisherman's Wharf on the other side of the docks. The wait for our table wasn't long but long enough to imagine Steinbeck working through a draft over a beer at the bar or a modern day VC bro becoming inspired by an elevated fast-casual seafood dining concept that's anchored between Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Once we were seated the service was attentive but not pushy and a delightful meal with a trio of longtime friends and colleagues was had. However, little did a buddy and I know we were eating our way to the darkest depths of Davy Jones' Locker when we ordered the calamari. Or, it could have been the tartar sauce that came with the calamari. Either way, we both woke up in the wee hours of the following morning with a stomach-churning sea-sickness that we wouldn't wish upon the saltiest sailor. It struck me first at 2 am when I was awoken from my slumber by a desperate need for the contents of my cargo hold to escape via the top hatch. Then a couple hours later my buddy had a violent rupture in his black water tank that sent a horrible mess coming out of his bilge valve. We were able to trade turns in our shared bathroom for a few rounds without issue but by 7 am, I was faced with a choice no person should ever have to make: should I try to barf between a friend's legs while he's pumping out the kind of horrific mess that would make the Exxon Valdez disaster look like a tiny spill, or should I sprint out the front door of the VRBO we've stayed at for the past three years and greet the morning by violently vomiting in my skivvies? Actually, now that I write it out... it wasn't much of a choice. Despite knowing my friend for close to 20 years, I found a nice bush in the front yard to evacuate my stomach. What made it weird was the German mountain bike legend who was staying with us was awoken by all the commotion and came out to check to see if everything was OK. I've been in some surreal moments in my life but talking to a German mere seconds after barfing in a bush at sunrise is suddenly at the top of the list. From this moment forward, the next 24 hours for us were a hallucination of pain and the expulsion of more chunks and fluids than you'd ever imagine a person could have in their body. It's been exactly one week and my throat remains a little jagged and my abs still have a twinge of pain from how violent the dozen-plus eruptions were. Granted, I'm not the kind of person who does stomach crunches for fun but tearing an ab muscle shouldn't be the least worst side effect of a bad dining experience. If you made it this far, maybe just stick to the Sandbar for drinks and maybe some fries if you feel like living on the edge.
