I went here to have a nice quiet lunch on a sunny afternoon. I was going to have an appetizer then order a refreshing crab Louie. But instead I ordered a calamari appetizer to start. After I finished my appetizer I noticed my cup with the dipping sauce in it. I turned that cup around and saw the most disgusting thing I've ever had from and restaurant I've been in. They used a dipping sauce cup for a previously used customers plate. The sauce had ketchup on it and the bottom of the cup was covered in ketchup! I told the waiter, and told the manager that was on duty, who was by chance the bartender at that time. But I waited twenty minutes till I found out he was still at the bar pouring drinks. I even showed the cup to the waiter and he just says, oh no! That's it! So I proceeded to the bad with the plate with the cup on it. I quietly showed the bartender/manager, he proceeded to tell me, sorry but it happens! If that's how they treat the customer complaints I know I'll never go back there again. I shouldn't have to tell them I'm a local or been in the foodservice business for over 45 years! If that's the way it is is this restaurant, they will lose lots of locals who frequent the warf restaurants. I was really enjoying my appetizer until I saw that! Needless to say I just walked out right after that bartender/manager said that! There was a person on facebook that told me I shouldn't worry about things like this! Came in on a Saturday evening 9/5/26 to celebrate my mom's bday. This is the only place that I can still reserve for 9 ppl. Waiting was not long. I was called to notify that my table was ready. We got seated and was greeted by a waiter (didn't get his name). He took our drink order and a few minutes later came back. Ordered: Basket of garlic cheese bread- was not good Calamari - was good Grilled mahi mahi and substitute with rice- everything was ok, fish was a bit dry to taste. Grilled pacific rockfish- was ok Blackened rockfish sandwich- was ok Bowl of clam chowder- was not good. Service was not the greatest, he was a bit slow and also didn't check up on us until we were almost done. Afterwards, he came out with a chocolate cake and a cup of vanilla bean Ice cream- and sang for my mom's bday. Dessert was definitely good. We asked him for our check and it took so long for it to come out. I wouldn't come back here. Wanted to also share something to those who wants to pay and hand the host or hostess your credit card before anything. So my sister gave them her credit card bc she wanted to pay. On Tuesday, 9/8/26, she checked her the credit card that was handed to the hostess and found a $455.82 charge for an Amazon purchase which she never did. The only placed she used this credit card was at this restaurant. PLEASE do not give them your credit card advanced. And make sure that when they do take your card to pay, that they come back in a timely manner and not having to wait for it. I will never come back here again!!!!! Lost trust in them! read more

My family and I had our first visit to the Rockfish Harbor Grill and enjoyed it thoroughly. The restaurant hostess was friendly and welcoming, guiding us to a cozy corner table with a view of the harbor. The sight of Monterey Bay harbor from our spot was stunning, with sailboats, marine life, and bright blue skies all in view. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and engaging. Went to the Rockfish Harbour Grill for lunch with my wife. Overall, it was excellent. Had a perfectly wonderful view of the harbor, even saw seals and otters swimming about. I had clam chowder, which was one of the best I've had in a long time as well as rockfish tacos. both excellent.! My wife had broiled rockfish plate that included a nice portion of fish ,vegetables and mashed potatoes. All cooked to perfection. The server was very attentive and constantly refilled our drinks and asked if we needed anything else. Not to much good to say here. Rockfish grill is located on fisherman's wharf in Monterey. We originally chose this place because it was the only place on fisherman's wharf that didn't have a host of someone yelling outside abt how great they were trying to get people to come in. Well maybe we would have been better off at one of those other places. We started with drinks my Sauvignon Blanc was good nothing exceptional, it was a very classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. My partners drink on the other hand was their house old-fashioned which was way overly sweet. Next onto to food I got the steamed garlic clams, which was basically just steamed clams in a water, tomato broth. Not good I couldn't even eat more than two just very bland. my partner got the Caesar salad the clam chowder and fries. Caesar salad, he said was was average starring at a five out of 10 the clam chowder he starred at a 6.5 saying that it did feel very fresh but was nothing special. Fries were crispy can never go wrong with some fries. Other than that, we were seated right by a window on the water, which was very nice. The view is very pretty. Their service was mediocre as well and took a while for food and someone to come around to check in on us. Definitely room for improvement here I would not suggest nor come back. read more

Haven't been to the wharf in a few years and when we did we always had a good dining experience, albeit a bit pricey. On this trip we decided to try Rockfish. This was our first time. It was just about noon but the the restaurant was nearly empty, except for one table of four. We seated at a nice table with a view of the bay and harbor. Lots of boats and seals to watch. The waiter came by in short order and took our drink and food order. I ordered the sourdough crab sandwich and my wife had the fish tacos. Two things. One, the entire restaurant empty they chose to seat a large noisy party right next to us. Two, they chose to clean the windows during service? I actually had to move out of the way while eating while the guy wiped the windows during service next to me. Now the food. We both started with the clam chowder which was very good but they don't give any sourdough, you have pay for it? We opted for crackers instead. My sandwich was grilled nicely but the crab did not taste fresh to my mind. It tasted more like canned crab. I love Dungeness crab and grew up in the Bay Area where it was readily available. I asked the waiter and he assured me it was made fresh daily from fresh crab. My wife's tacos were portioned generously and she said the fish tasted good but they over did the aioli sauce. A very quiet February night on the old pier in Monterey, we took an Uber over from the Seven Gables, about $20. The pier was empty, a couple here and there certainly not like the day in mid summer. Weather was and has been spectacular and the stars were showing off tonight! We walked to the end of the pier, I've been here several times over the years. As we were seated there were only four tables with dinner guests, that's how slow it was. We knew M was going to "sample" the chowder and she did. A new rule was instated a while back...no fish n' chips unless there are fried shrimp too. wouldn't you know the Fisherman's Platter had it all, calamari too. So we got our cup of chowder and we shared the platter. The chowder was too perfect and I'd question whether this was made on the premises or just stirred up in the back. The Platter well...Let's say it was a decent meal for one but we made it work for us. Slightly over cooked didn't help justify the price they were charging. From the iced tea not being refilled to reminding the server with "some ranch dressing please", I got the feeling that the chef and manager overseeing the operation tonight wasn't happening. Pretty good! It's hard to know where to go on the boardwalk because there are so many restaurants that seemingly look the same and feature similar menus. I had the rockfish tacos that were really good. Firecracker shrimp was also delicious and side of fries was very hardy and could feed the table. Views were great! My husband had the spicy fried chicken sandwich that was cooked to perfection. Everything was so good. The service was constant. Meaning it was good to have someone checking on you but like 2-3 people almost every 5 minutes like they were rushing you became a little irritating but after you let them know I'm good, just give me a few minutes then they leave you alone for awhile. Our family of six came here last weekend. My daughter ordered a chicken salad dish, and my spouse had a medium rare steak while I ordered a Black Fish sandwich which include French fries. When they brought out, I was surprised as there was no sandwich: no bun, no lettuce or any kind of veggies. Now, the tree dollar sign rating for The Sardine Factory is characteristic of a pricey menu. I would give this place two dollar signs, and my husband and I are quite frugal. The food was really good. The calamari was really good the batter flavor with the lemon hit the spot. The individual pieces were big like nuggets instead of the usual small pieces. The seafood pasta was a bit over cooked but not they sure do pack on the seafood, overall it was good. The scampi was good had a bit of tomato flavor though. The food was good for the most part, we just ordered shared plates... Artichoke was good but had a thorn on one of the leaves and i got stung. The aioli was delicious and the rest of the choke was good. The calamari was by far my favorite, perfectly seasoned and fried pieces. My husband got the oyster on half shelf he liked them but have had better. He rushed us, and I witnessed him at the tables around us and he was pleasant and not rushing them. He rushed us tried taking plate I was still eating from. Brought the check without asking if dessert or another drink wanted. I can honestly say worst service I've ever experienced, especially with our tab was well over a hundred dollars!
