I drug my out of town guest across chattanooga to this store to buy local. Store is empty except another couple. Go to the cashier where 4 associates are. They don't acknowledge us. Think a NorthFace store kisses a Patagonia boutique and their love child is . . . Rock/Creek. All the good Big Brand stuff (I have been drooling over a couple of the winter-y-est jackets since I got here in Jan, and though a couple did go on sale, I still had to pass due to $$ so at least it's warm enough now I am not so sad at the almost-had). Add in local ownership (they also have a store downtown on Broad). Season with a dash of outdoor/adventure expertise - as someone else mentioned, the staff can help with local trail-specific footwear, and the activity log in back is pretty cool. I always hesitate to go into this location due to horrible customer service. That's been several months ago again, and again the customer service continues to be awful. I had made a purchase at the Hamilton place location that I needed to return and decided to return it here since I was in this part of town. Never a greeting when you walk in the door and there were several employees standing around the counter. I did return my shirt and the male employee that helped me was very nice. I decided to look at shoes and there was a female employee just standing there staring off into space She didn't ask once if I needed help with anything and there were no other customers there. RockCreek is one of the main players in the "Keep it Local" scene that is Chattanooga. What gives them the competitive advantage is not their pricing (although reasonable for a locally owned store), not their technical competence (although you will find an expert on any outdoor activity here), but their knowledge of the local scene. These guys will recommend you a different trail running shoe for each of the three major trail systems in Chatt (i.e., Racoon, Lookout, Signal). They are just the right ammount of quirky to let you know that they know their stuff, but friendly enough to keep you coming back. Make RockCreek your go-too outdoor retail shop. Keep it local. Of all the Rock/Creeks in the area, this one is my absolute favorite. They have an amazing selection of clothing, shoes, outerwear and gear, and their staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their products. While the Rock/Creek downtown has more of a focus on boutique/high-end clothing, this one is a great mix of everything. They have a really well-curated selection of jackets and sleeping bags in particular, and a ton of smaller items like water bottles, camping supplies and things that could be considered stocking stuffers. Any time I'm looking for a gift for someone in my life who loves the outdoors, I head over here (and end up picking up a few things for myself, too). Their staff is also a font of knowledge about local trail systems. When my husband and I first moved to Chattanooga last year, we were in Rock/Creek talking about where to go hiking and one of the guys behind the counter gave us a ton of great leads on hikes and backpacking in the area. The parking can be a little rough if it's a high-traffic time for Whole Foods next door, but it's worth it. This is definitely one of my favorite stores in Chattanooga. read more

Rock/Creek is one of the nation's finest specialty outdoor stores. I know, because I work with specialty retailers around the country. The store itself is beautiful, with high ceilings and excellent natural lighting. BTW, the store is a part of Chattanooga's first LEED certified retail development. The apparel and gear that Rock/Creek sells is second to none. Rock/Creek's buyers do a fantastic job of procuring the best products. The staff are friendly and informative, and most importantly, they are real outdoor enthusiasts with domain expertise that allows them to answer a customer's need in a more informed way. And lastly, they know everything there is to know about the local outdoor community. They sponsor trail racing series. They host really fun pint nights. They have speakers and adventurers come to the shops. They sponsor meetup groups. They've started a non-profit, which maintains and protects trails in the area, and they can guide anyone to the best outdoor experiences in the area. Five stars. read more

My first impression of this store was, "What is with this place?" I walked past the ennui filled front of the store and went to buy some boots. I picked out a couple of pairs and sat down to wait my turn. The salesperson was helping one person, who was taking his time, speaking with his partner, and testing his shoes. I sat on the bench and watched while she stood around and watched TV glancing my way one-in-a-while. When she did see me (at least I thought she saw me, the ennui was pretty thick) I held up the shoes in the universal signal of 'I'd like to try these on'. Apparently I needed a different universal signal? Even a "I'll try to get someone to help you" would have been nice. Finally I flagged down another salesperson and asked if he could help. He immediately looked at the shoes I had chosen, asked my size and went off to find them. Meanwhile the original salesperson finally looked over and asked "Oh, do you need help?" I admit, I laughed. Mind you, we were only ten feet away and she had to have seen the other person. Now for the good and why I'm giving the store 4 stars. The person who helped me was outstanding and the four stars are really for him. He knew the brands, how they might fit my feet and how to size them. When I realized I needed a size down from one pair, he not only brought that shoe but the new size in the others, just-in-case. This was a huge help as I did need a size down in the others. He was engaging and conversational, AND, managed to help other customers while helping me. His service was outstanding and in the end I felt like I bought just the right boots. read more

Very uncomfortable costumer service experience. Costumer service is a must and in this case, they MUST do something different. Not your normal "bad costumer service" review. These guys followed us around like hawks. Way too close for comfort. Even after stating, "we're just looking around", we felt like our every move was being watched to the point of making us fe uncomfortable. We decided to leave and on our way out the door, we figured since we were at an outdoors store, we could ask for great trails to hike that were close by yet the staff was poorly educated on the local areas...just confirming our decision to leave the store. read more

Me and my girlfriend were looking at purchasing a bike. We were shopping in the store for close to an hour. We went to the restroom and were followed by the rude store manager. As we walked toward the front of the store he rudely targeted and yelled at my girlfriend for using the restrooms. As I said we were thinking about purchasing a bike but I promise you I will never purchase anything from this store EVER. This is NO way to treat customers. read more

Very cool place to go. Typical outdoor gear prices, but a very nice store and amazing staff. They will even Google stuff for you if you ask.

Always loved Rock Creek and their products. However, on a recent trip last week was told that I could not try on a Patagonia coat in the dressing room and If I did I would have to leave the door open. The sales representative told me to just look at it in the mirror outside the dressing room. Contacted the manager by phone and told him of my experience and he said this is their new policy. Great store for the outdoor enthusiast. Very knowledgeable staff that use the gear and know the gear. Helped to fill a third of my closet with Prana, North Face, Patagonia, and Marmot apparel. My two daughters vacuum my wallet every now and again to get things for them as well. Wish I had a store as my walk in closet! read more
