It's official. I think I have to wear glasses all the time now... ah, the beauty of aging and…read moresitting in front of a computer all day. It had been a couple years since my last visit to the eye doctor as my prescription hadn't changed. Recently, I noticed my vision wasn't as clear anymore so I took to my insurance website (and recommendation from a friend) on where to go for an eye appointment. Luckily, the place she recommended was part of my VSP plan and I have decent coverage at Reed so I called to make an appointment and was able to get in a few days later. I also was able to pull the new patient forms from their website, which lessened the waiting time when I arrived for my appointment. A tech asked me some preliminary questions, checked the strength of my current prescription, then I saw Dr. Farrar. She was really sweet, not too chatty. It was the first time I had my eyes dilated... wowee! That's an experience -- bring sunglasses in case you're driving home. Overall, she was very thorough and made sure I was seeing things perfectly -- I'm still new to the whole, "is 1 clear or 2 clear... 3 or 4" process of viewing the letters on the wall (take your time and ask them to go back, don't just say a number). After they dilated my eyes, they had me shop around for glasses. I didn't love their selection and was happy there was no pressure to buy a pair. The lady helping me suggested I come by during their trunk show to check out options that will be 50% off (in April)! Then, I had to sit for a little while in the waiting room. I couldn't answer emails or read a magazine because my eyes were blurry from the dilation, which was inconvenient, but the next part took about 5 min for her finish the appt. I'd suggest allotting at least 1.5 hr. for your appointment, especially if you're going to peruse their eye wear selection. As far as selection, they have some basic options and brand name frames like Gucci, Dior, Nine West, and Calvin Klein.

They don't offer any assistance in selecting a frame. I have to wear dollar store glasses to read,…read moreeven though I had bifocals made. The heavy set man said that I could read some bottom line and that was good enough, but they are not working for me. Now I am stuck with a pair of glasses that I paid a lot of money for. The guy was rude to me. I liked my eye doctor, but I won't be back.

What I got was an eye that cannot see clearly from 6 feet+. What happened? The doctor said that he made the decision to make my eye nearsighted because I had lasik surgery 20 years ago. This new plan was NEVER discussed with me prior to my surgery. I would have never approved this, as i wanted clear distance vision and was prepared to wear glasses for reading. What I'm left with is vision that requires glasses for ALL distances! And the lens cannot be removed and replaced. So I'm out of $2600 plus I have poor vision. I pursued a second opinion from an expert doctor in another town and he said that he would never have put a Vivity lens in my eye. And to make it all worse, Cornerstone recommended laser to remove scar tissue on my lens capsule. This was a simple procedure and I had not yet received my Second Opinion. Following that surgery, I had absolutely no improvements in my vision AND I had a negative side effect of increased floaters and a dangerous side effect of increased eye pressure and a chance of retinal damage and loss of vision! (Vitreous prolapse). At my followup for the laser surgery Cornerstone did not even talk to me about the vitreous prolapse! Stay away from Cornerstone Eye Associates! They did not listen to my wishes (which were clearly charted) and they did not take responsibility for my botched eye that is permanent!

I have been a long-time customer of Whelplye & Paul for many years at the Greece location. I…read morerecently called the Webster office--not the general appointment line--to schedule a visual field test. I specifically asked whether this test was provided and was told yes. Based on that information, I made the appointment, waited nearly three weeks, took time off work, and drove 25 miles one way, only to be informed upon arrival that I first needed an eye exam and that they would then decide whether to schedule a visual field test approximately three weeks later. This important detail was never communicated to me when I called and clearly explained what I needed. I am extremely disappointed with this lack of communication and the inconvenience it caused.

Surprisingly, they had a couple of openings that evening and told us to come right in. They only work with older children at this location but were quick to give us their recommendation for someone nearby that also takes our insurance and is great with younger kids, and then fit my husband and me in right away. The Optometrist here is probably the nicest Optometrist I've visited, and in 30 years of wearing glasses and/or contacts, that is saying a lot. Eye exams are pretty routine and a lot of Doctors breeze on through but he was very thorough and kind. The optician asked me what styles I like and made recommendations based on what I asked him and stuck within what my insurance covered when I wanted to stay under that limit (I primarily wear contacts, so these glasses are replacing a much older pair with an outdated script that I only wear at home in the evenings) and did not try to upsell me. I managed to find a pair of glasses that were similar to my old pair but that I like better. Finally the woman at the front desk was amazing, not only was she super friendly and kind, but she was kind to my kids and made us feel right at home while waiting. We have definitely found our new Vision Care "home".
