They sell collectibles, like gundams and tons of other neat things. I've been inside their infrastructure, and it's got that great collectibles store feel-- tons and tons of eye candy. To the untrained eye, they may seem like overpriced toys... actually, they could be, but they're great stuff and it's a fantastic hobby. Their employees are friendly and keep the store's atmosphere pretty healthy, despite their arguably obscure location and store name. That said, I've seen two particular employees working there regularly and, among the two of them, they seem to specialize in different things. One guy is actually a toy robot building expert, while the other seems to have the available knowledge on pretty much everything else-- which is about, let's say, a whole third of the store. When I said their staff was friendly, well, they are. From what I've seen, there aren't many of them, anyway. They're more than willing to engage in friendly conversation about whatever it is you'd like to geek out about-- whether it be about random seasonal anime or favorite characters. One guy has an affinity for Type-moon, if that's your thing. They even had a television set that was playing it. The other guy doesn't talk so much, but he inserts a snide comment every now and then. Overall, the atmosphere's actually pretty entertaining. If you're a geek for all things mech and action anime, this is your stop. I'm not the biggest fan of gundams and meticulous figurine labor, but the sheer quantity of eye candy available is phenomenal. Sections that I'd already been through seemed to contain something new just minutes after I left it. It's a hole in the wall so you'd never expect a place like this, but it's a great find. After all, the only real reason why I found this place was because I was a regular customer at the butcher right next to them. Oh yeah, and as far as price, it's basically what you'd expect. Not like they're gonna cut prices like crazy, but they tend to be reasonable-- comparable to what you'd see online, minus the shipping jargon. R4L is definitely the go-to hobby store if you're into Gunpla or stating to get into it! They have the most in-stock items of other shops that sell Gunpla and they top it off with a flat 20% off of plastic model kits, tools, and supplies off the bat (could be more during holidays/special events) making it very competitive with Amazon and Japanese online store prices where'd you have to pay shipping anyways. The guys that work here are well-versed and polite; if you have any concerns they will do everything in their power answer your problems. Only one concern though: new items get sold out quick! So be sure to pre-order any new kits (with an even bigger discount than 20%) as restocks can be somewhat lengthy. In all, I highly recommend this shop for any Gunpla needs! read more

Just went to get my phone fixed and I couldn't be happier! I drop my phone a lot and haven't bought a case because I like to live dangerously. This time both my screen and battery port were broken so I took it here because they got decent prices and are honest with what they had to repair. Prices on very FEW items can be high, but it's rare and the staff are almost always willing to help out. Selection is huge ranging from Gunpla, Evangelion, DragonBall Z, Sailormoon, Lego, and so on. They carry a HUGE selection of stuff from new to old and frequently have awesome sales. They make me hesitant to buy from anywhere else(Even online!) because the experience of coming here is always so rewarding and warm. been to this shop a couple of times, bought a few kits here also, despite the over the top price. however, during my last visit I went here to purchase some side cutters. of course there being no price tag (on ANYTHING in the shop for that matter) i go to the cashier and ask fora price check. $40. for side cutters. are you kidding me, on average plastic cutters go for about $15-$20, NEVER $40 after proclaiming in shock that these shouldn't go that high, and that online shops have it for half that price, he proceeded to tell me to go buy it there then. yup, I think I will. only reason I liked R4L was the selection on the tools that they had, but if the employees are gonna be jerks, and the prices get even more outrageous, then screw it. don't get me wrong. i understand that due to gunpla being such a niche hobby here in the states, it's hard to make an income without raising prices a bit. but double the original price? i'm sorry but no way, i'd rather go down the street and get side cutters at a different hobby store for, oh you guessed it, $20 I'm imagining someone might say "oh well the price is high to cover shipping cost", then why the hell are the in shop prices so damn high, it makes no sense. maybe i'll use the extra $20 i save after purchasing some side cutters to get another kit somewhere else. funny sidenote, on my way out, the person i came in with and i were talking about the Lego Deathstar kit, and how we couldn't imagine how long it would take to complete it. this cashier chimes up and says "i could finish it in 2 hours" bullshit, so you're a jerk AND a liar. read more

I've done most of my Gundam shopping online and in Japan and these guys are top notch -- they had more stuff and a better selection than most hobby shops in Tokyo! Tons of MG and PGs. I was really blown away. Expert, friendly salespeople and more Gundam than you can shake a stick at -- this is exactly what L.A needs (even if it's in Orange County -- it's worth the trek). Came here on a whim looking for a custom builder to potentially hire for some commission work. Wasn't quite sure what to expect since a store with this much Gundam stock has not existed since Supercollector closed down in the early 2000's. The employees were extremely helpful and professional. They have a large selection of anime products ranging from play arts kai's to S.H. Figuarts, and of course Gunpla. They don't just stock the current and latest Gundam kits either, they have some older kits as well. They have a large variety of HG kits in 1/144 and 1/100, a decent amount of MG's, and a few PG's. They don't discriminate on series either, as I saw U.C. kits, Wing, 00, Build Fighters, and other series such as super robot taisen, patlabor, and muv luv. They also have a good amount of paint and building supplies as well. It can get pricey, but remember your paying for the convenience of the item being under one roof and instock, and you not having to pay for shipping. I read a few of the reviews on the page, and the one star review sticks out like a sore thumb. The employees told him to go buy the item at the cheaper price and the yelper gets angry? It sounds like the employee was looking out for the yelpers best interest, but that's just me. Either way if I was still building myself I would support this store, but my interests have swayed to TF's, but I may buy from them in the future to pick up some Mr. Color paint. read more

This place is like a Swiss dagger (I guess they make those)--it performs a singular function really well. Anime robot models. Or mecha. So yeah, if you really like building mecha toys--or know someone who does--you'll be saving yourself a lot of trouble by coming here. The fare here is mostly Gundam, but they cover a good spectrum of Gundam in terms of quality/grades (from the cheap super deformed models, the decent 25 dollar models, all the way to M-M-Master Grade) and shows. As an old school anime fan, it was comforting to see some of the Original Gundam stuff, G Gundam, and Gundam Wing models alongside the ones from newer shows I don't know (double 0, um, double S, some other letters). I don't know if there's any Turn A Gundam fans around (the mustache robot anime), but I didn't see any of those kits--perhaps it's a sign of discerning taste. I should also mention that the shop also sells Kamen Rider models (mostly Double), I think a few Evangelion ones, I saw a Goukou, and some of the classic Go Nagai giant robot kits (Great Mazinger, Mazinger Z from the latest show--I think it's Shin Mazinger Z, and maybe Grendizer). The store also sells figures--Kamen Rider, Gundam, etc. So if you like those things--again, discerning taste. In terms of modeling supplies, they've also got a pretty wide gamut--paints, primer, afterpaint coat (Mr. Coat?), stands, tools, air brush equipment. Basically, if you want to add some serious oompf to your decor with a swank robot model, this is probably the best place for fitting all your needs. I was also really pleased by the service was also really good. The staff (well, the dude at the desk in the back) was really friendly and was ready with the guidance I needed for my task of selecting model paints. They also have these free fliers in the front, namely color guides (really a big help in finding paint by the simple number IDs) and tips for using Gundam markers. I guess I also felt confident that he knew what he was talking about: anime fans can usually spot each other by attire, and some of the finished models on display, as well as the models in progress near the couch, looked mighty fine. Side Note: I think they also repair smart phones or iPhones here at the desk in the very front. Or they sell some kind of phone accessories. Went there two days in a rows bought Red Astray Red Frame high grade for 16.99, the next day came back and bought Red Astray Red Frame master grade. Totally worth it. Plus great help from worker ! First of all, this place has a huge huge variety of the gunpla or gundams that you can buy. From High Grades to Perfect Grades, they have ALOT. I just love the freedom that you can choose from a lot of them although sometimes it gets hard to pick because there are so many good gundams in there. They also have products that don't pertain to Gundams such as some One Piece figures and others that I do know of. They also sell tools that will help you with your gunpla making easier or more convenient. The clerk that helped me was very helpful and answered my questions as best he could. Nice guy. I noticed a lot of people go here for the iPhone repair in the back of the shop though. Shame but business is business. read more

Always make time to visit this store when I'm down from the Bay Area. They have awesome variety, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing. I started coming here when I was brand new to Gundam. One of the staff walked me through everything I needed and I purchased my first high grades from them. Three trips later I'm here purchasing master grades. This place is worth the visit. The prices are reasonable considering it being a small shop, I don't mind shelling out a few more bucks for having the convenience of picking it up in person and not pay shipping/or have to wait for it to arrive from over seas.
