Love this place. The staff are all so helpful, knowledgeable and patient. I always feel like they take the time to find ways to help me solve problems; even when it would mean I'd be spending less money (or obviously just buying other stuff instead :) ). They have a variety of products in stock, ranging from "new hobby" beginner up to "second mortgage" mid-life crisis. They carry a lot of upgrade and replacement (#Bashers) parts in stock. Very Bad service, owner is always in a bad mood. Today he tried selling me some tires that weren't even my fit . He should be thankful that his worker the one that always wears a hat hasn't left somewhere else to apply. He's actually the one that keeps his customers coming back. If you are tired of sub-par service and indifference from other hobby shops and want top notch and knowledgeable service... Gearbox is the place to go. I have been in the RC hobby for over 20 years and into airsoft for 10 years. I have been far and wide to all of the hobby stores on the west coast and I can easily say that this store is probably the best all around store I have discovered. They may not be as big as some of the other big hobby stores around but they have an impressive collection of product. What really sets them apart is that they have the best customer service. Their employees are very helpful and will take the time to explain to you (novice and pro alike) the pros and cons of each thing. The experience I have had in other local shops has been bad because they are not helpful, knowledgeable, or nice and they make customers feel stupid and inferior. This elitist attitude is not present at Gearbox so this is why I would rather buy from them than other places. To me, it seems that they want to perpetuate and promote the hobby as they seem to enjoy it as well. Other places are very impersonal and are more concerned about moving product. Great shop with really friendly staff. I broke a part on my RC truck and the staff member walked me through a few options and made a recommendation. I took his word on it and later verified his suggestion. Also, if they don't have the item you are looking for, ask them. They have ordered a few parts for me and had them in stock in a few days. I have already given their business cards to a few friends. Definitely worth checking out and they are pretty close to the 57/91 freeways which help save drive time. read more

I went there on Thursday 3/5, a guy named jack greeted me. I brought in my 1/5 scale rc car (losi DBXLE), asked to have soldering done for my lipo batteries and HW Max 5 ESC (uses standard 8 gauge wire). Jack: we don't work on rc cars that big Me: you sell these 1/5 rc cars though Jack: yes but actually I don't have time for this, and I don't think we have a soldering iron big enough for this and we need to order a soldering iron. Come back on weekend Me: I purposely came on weekday to avoid how busy it gets on weekend. So I called ultimate hobbies in front of jack, they said sure bring it down. They took care of it right when I walked in the door. Jack you probably won't understand this as you probably aren't the owner, but given the fact that brick and mortar RC shops are on their last leg, deflecting customers is probably the exact opposite thing you should be doing lol. Anyways good luck running that business into the ground pal. I can tell you for sure, your store won't be around much longer if your lazy ass continues to work there. read more

Hence, why I completely appreciated my time spent at this location. First of all, Gear Box is in a heavy industrial area, it kind of blends in with the office buidlings around it. Win - Lots of Parking on a Saturday. If we weren't driving a certain direction on the street, we could of missed it altogether. The shop is a decent size for it's particular and very cool merchandise. MODELS ONLY - they do not carry figurines, I know this, because I asked. The Staff was very helpful... Also, I think that it was just too obvious that I was a 'Newb' going into the store. They genuinely wanted to offer the best advice for getting my little Tamiya Mini-Cooper up and running. Amazingly - they are open 7 days a week people! So start your engines and take a trip to Gear Box to check out all their cool stuff. read more

Over five (5) years ago, I had found GearBox Model as a small shop and I started playing Airsoft because they have a phenomenal collections of a true craftsmanship of product. They are very knowledgeable on their stuff, very helpful. Everytime I go there, I feel like I just have to get something because now that they are at their new location, I fee like a kid at a Candy Store. I highly recommend you check out GB (I'd like to refer to) for any R/C products. Their store may be small, but don't let size fool you. They can get pretty much everything and I see them more as a Specialty Hobby Shop and not JUST a hobby shop. Just purchased our second RC car within two days from this great place. The owner is extremely nice and provided us with honest and friendly customer service. I wanted to get an intro car for my 8 year old son due to my love of this hobby many years ago. I felt that I was NOT given the hard sale, or was pressured to be uphold. The owner was extremely price conscious and wanted my son to get the correct car for an 8 year old. In researching the prices I discovered that I was only paying about $10 - $20 more for the items I purchased which I feel is MORE than worth it because I had someone there to instruct me on what I needed to learn. When I returned today he matched the much more expense model I purchased today to Amazon prices. I feel like this store with be my "go to" store for this hobby! I had ONCE recommended them but they have thrown parts at a friend leaving their store, have reneged on promises made to customers about the ability to return, and basically have become a place to avoid at all costs. Their prices have always been exorbitant, but the convenience of their location once made up for it. Sparky there helped me make the best decision as far as buying the Blade 120 SR in their show room. I have had the most fun flying it and when i thrash parts, Sparky is always on top of it with having all the parts available and the know how to get it flying again. Super friendly service, and all kinds of parts in stock. The place is a kids candy store for hobbies. Prices are firm at retail for the convenience of them having everything but when the doo doo hits the fan and you need to fly or drive again, its sure worth the price to be able to count on Gearbox to have that you need. Again talk to Sparky in there he knows his stuff and is super cool as well as all the rest of the staff there. This means there's no screaming deal at Wally World (since they don't carry this stuff there) and even online, I couldn't find any discounts. This hobby store has the greatest selection of parts and complete cars. They especially have a ton of parts for the 1/5 scale HPI and Losi which is hard to find at most stores. I don't do planes or helicopters, but i know they have a large selection of complete models and parts. Gearbox also has a very large selection of airsoft guns and hop up parts. read more

Came to this hobby store for a spare part I needed for my traxxas rustler. This place is not big but has lots of options and different styles of rc.
