Car alarms are a fact of life in the city, and as aggravating as they are I have had to learn to deal with it. On Saturday, the car in spot 34 in my building's lot started to go off. The sound was a continuous "WEEOOO, WEEOOO" instead of the type that switches sounds, and it would go off continuously for 45 seconds, take a deep breath for 15, and then get right back to it. On Saturday, I dealt with it. I have noise-cancelling headphones so I put them on and watched Netflix. Sunday dawns. "WEEOOO, WEEOOO" at 8:00am which is when I woke up but not necessarily when it started. I started to get unreasonably angry. Understand that our building is shaped like a "U" and this vehicle was parked just to one side of the open end, sending a blast-wave of irritation through every apartment's windows. I wanted to be reasonable, so my girlfriend and I went to the grocery store and did some errands. When we got back the alarm was still going off. By this time it was 2:00pm and I was done. I called the police. They came, but said they couldn't do anything because the vehicle was on private property. Good to know for the next time I throw a party. I called the landlord and he said he would call the guy who owns the car. I left a polite note on the car saying "Your alarm has been going off for hours. Please be more considerate of your neighbors!' About an hour later, I made a tent out of paper and wrote "Hey everyone, look at what an A**HOLE I am!" on both sides, and taped it to the roof of the car. The alarm went off through the football games I had planned on watching while relaxing and drinking some stout. Now I am fuming, stomping around my apartment and telling my girlfriend all the things I'm (not) going to do to the car. Slash the tires, stab through the hood until I find the horn, key the car, kick the headlights out, dump garbage on it. In my impotent rage my imagination knows no bounds in visualizing new tortures for the vehicle outside. Other neighbors have joined me outside in staring hatefully towards our enemy. I told them about calling the cops, and that I contacted the landlord. Our hands are tied. My girlfriend goes to work at 4:00am Monday (10/31/2011), and the alarm is still going off. I get home from work at 6:00pm and the alarm is still going off. I call the landlord again. He says he will call me back with the number for his tow company. At this point the car is positively festooned with notes, to the degree that one person brought out a large manila envelope to contain and protect our missives of hatred. Then, for no discernible reason, the alarm stops. I watched a movie with my girlfriend in sweet, gentle peace. Afterwards, I decided to take the movie to the mailbox along with a couple of other parcels. In my head I begin to compose an email to the landlord explaining why I didn't have the car towed. In all honesty, having your car towed is a terrible experience that I wouldn't want to inflict on - "WEEOOO, WEEOOO" I ran back to the apartment. A small crowd had gathered around the car, murder shining in their eyes. I told them I was calling the tow company, and they said that they had tried. I raced upstairs and dialed. "Yes," I told the operator, "He's parked in my spot." Within five minutes, the tow truck arrived and people poured out of the building. People cheered from the windows. Someone brought down a carton of eggs and several people pelted our cruel, auditory tyrant with sticky reminders that the masses will not wither beneath the onslaught of oppression forever. The tow truck driver got splattered a little, but he didn't seem to care. He didn't even say anything, but went about his job with the biggest grin on his face. For once he was greeted with cheers and happy faces just for doing his work. On this Halloween, a tow truck driver was dressed up as the hero of everyone within two and a half blocks of spot 34. I have to add to all these reviews. This tow company is responsible for some of the worst human interactions I have ever experienced in my entire life. And the comments from the owner just go to show that most of the reviews are 95% accurate. A story similar to others on Yelp: I recently watched from my back porch as the BPD came to stop an illegal tow that was taking place across the street from my building. Not only was the tow truck driver about to try and tow an Audi A4 2-Litre Quatro that belonged to a resident who paid for the spot and had the proper decal, he was caught red-handed trying to break into said vehicle to do so without using a flatbed. I heard very clearly as he yelled at the residents who came to ask him what he was doing there and I heard every single, "PAY THE F---ING DROP OR GO BACK INSIDE" and "I DON'T GIVE A F--K" as my neighbors called the police while they begged this guy to wait for this to be sorted out. Long story short, BPD showed up within a couple minutes and blocked the driveway, the Audi was put back down and the tow truck left in a hurry. Now some marketing 101: Don't start every reply to a poor review with "(Insert name here) you are NOT being truthful". At this point I'm starting to think that it's being copied and pasted from the same old reused Word document. Yelp reviews that stay publicly on your page come from dedicated Yelpers who have an established history of writing proper reviews for businesses in the area. You will have to go pretty darn far to discredit them, but in attempting to do so you look even worse and just give more credit to their reviews. Lastly: Your employees are disrespectful, poorly spoken, and entirely out for everyone's cash regardless of the legal integrity of the tow in question. I understand you have a lot of contracts in the Boston area. At one point you probably earned each and every one fair and square due to some kind of amazing service, but that level of service just isn't there anymore. A better guess would say you guys just charge a lot less than every other tow company around. However, I will still be contacting the management company that I rent my parking spot from to recommend that they move to a new towing company as soon as possible. read more

DRIVERS IN BOSTON BE AWARE!!!! On August 31, 2020 I went to Boston from New York to move my son from one apt. to another. I parked my vehicle in front of 17 Radcliff to unload his furnishings. While bring up furniture management called Robert's Towing and in a matter of seconds towed the vehicle. The vehicle was open with the keys in the ignition, the doors open, my wallet with cash, my cell phone and furnishings that had not been taken out yet. I had to call Uber to take me to the establishment. While in route I called and was told the fee to take the vehicle out of the pound would be $143.00. Upon arriving there at first they would not allow me to go to the vehicle to get my wallet out. They said I had to get ok from the window. I gave them $140.00 in $20.00 bills and I put together $1.00 coin, 6 quarters and 5 dimes to then be told that they don't accept coins. I had to withdraw money from their ATM and pay a fee to make up the $3.00. I find this totally unacceptable. I believe that the management company for the complex must get a percentage, and find it unfair of their actions. How is one suppose to move in. I also found it strange that only my vehicle was towed. Was it because it had New York plates? This shows the hatred Bostians have for New Yorkers. Or was it because we are a minority? What ever the case, I now HATE BOSTON AS WELL!!!! Nevertheless, I will report Robert's Towing to the BBB, and will look into any further actions I can take. An IRS Audit would suit them well to see if they are reporting all these cash transactions. In conclusion, I would like to say that the staff needs training in customer service and as far as I know coins are still a form of payment in these United States. My friend recently moved into a new place & her car got towed because she was parked In her neighbors spot for 10mins . When we came outside to the car being towed my sister realized she had left her PRESCRIBED ANXIETY MEDICATION in her purse In the car. She told the driver that she needed to grab her medicine and he started to drive off. Then I grabbed the car door trying to open it or to at least get the driver to stop so I could get my sisters medication. And instead he sped up while I was HOLDING ON TO THE CAR DOOR !! My experience with this company was the worst in my 28 years being in this country... We took our disabled mother who cannot walk without a walker and is 82 years old to our house for Thanksgiving. The next day we drove her back and parked at the ramp at the back entrance of her building. There is no ramp at the front of the building and our mother cannot use the stairs. So we parked at the ramp, put a handicapped placard (!) and the blinkers. We helped her upstairs. It took about 8 minutes. When we came back, our car was towed despite the blinkers and the handicapped placard... These people are lacking some basic compassion and humanity. They only care about cash they can get. They will do anything for $150. It is so sad, I feel really sorry for them. Don't ever go near this "business". Save yourself from dealing with probably the worst people in the Boston area. It is incredible to me that a towing company appears to accept and enter into an agreement with the management company that runs the property of 17 Radcliffe Rd condominiums in Allston , Mass to in fact tow their new occupants as they are in the process of moving in. Yes I understand that management have their right to tow . However there is a blatant abuse here that must be exposed. To be towed while in the active process of moving in. It is the end of August- the first of the Sept - who does not know it is moving in and moving out time ! There were boxes, keys in ignition, wallets and phones still in vehicle - help going up with heavy furniture needed another hand ( a third person) to get it past the 2nd floor stair railing! So now with - No money and No Phone . Thankfully my son had his and we called an Uber. 10 min car ride told $143 - only cash and yes also no coins! Since when are coins not currency ?! Adding to my previous review, roberts towing has towed my car for a THIRD time from my spot. 1. I pay $150 and have a designated spot 2. I have a sticker 3. I have a note in the car with my contact info 4. They put me on a no tow list AND confirmed that with me just 4 days ago as well as said "oh yea that should not have been towed" today They still towed my car. And then said they couldn't bring it back right away so I had to take an hour out of my day to go get it. Absolutely awful. Straight up stealing my car. My wife parked in the EastWest Bank Parking lot on a Saturday when the bank was closed. The signs in the parking lot read "EastWest Bank Customers Only while Conducting Bustiness After Hours Parking Limited to 20 Minutes. When she returned to the car 10 minutes later the car was already up on the truck. Him: You can't park here because you aren't doing business with the bank Her: The bank is closed. And I have been here less then 20 minutes. Him: It's for the ATM Her: It doesn't say the ATM it says 20 minutes Him: It will cost a $50 drop fee to put the car down. Cash Only Her: I will need a receipt Him: I don't have any receipts She dashes to the car that is up and sits in the driver's seat and calls the police. They tell her he has to give her one. When she gets off the phone has "found" the receipts. She pays him cash and gets a receipt. In that 10 minute period, you found our car and fully hooked it up. Also, there was no "she intended to patronize Peets for 1.5 hours".. She DID patronize Peets for 1.5 hours prior to being towed (and we offered to show your employee the proof in the form of a credit card charge... but of course he had no interest in that). My friend received a call back from "him" today. Her car got towed on Saturday night from Allston in an area where there WERE NO VISIBLE SIGNS. When we pick up the car we pay $143 CASH to get it back. When we search for things we left in the car (medical marijuana and A bottle of Hennessy) they were missing. We called right away and spoke with Anthony who was the guy who we paid to get the car back. He told us to call Sunday and speak with Robert. He said he couldn't give out the drivers name. We call Sunday and of course Robert isn't working. Fast forward to today, my friend gets a call from "Robert" the owner but really it wasn't Robert! The person was pretending to be him the whole time and defending his "driver" that has worked with him for the past "8 years" and nothing like this has happened before. Roberts Towing is a SCAM. My car was parked legally on a rental spot, i pay $175 a month to park there. My parking tag was clearly visible, they attempted to tow my car previously even with the TAG. I was able to stop them in TIME, but last night they successfully towed my car. I bet they towed my car mistakenly then realized they cant park my vehicle back at my spot, so they decided to toss my parking tag away and towed my car for civil trespass. BULLSHIT!!!! my car was parked there for over 2yrs with a parking TAG!!!!!!! I was parked in a painted, clear spot and was sitting across the street when I got towed. I went over and the man outside told the driver to pull away faster. Multiple people said they are known for driving around looking to tow people. They're predatory and disgusting and proud of being horrible. Someone was parked next to me in no spot at all, and I was the one who got towed. The signs at the gas station referenced ABC Towing but I was directed to Robert's Towing. The workers and drivers all had a very inappropriate demeanor and made me (young female) feel very uncomfortable. The entire process, from the multiple different companies to the way employees treated us made me feel like I needed multiple showers after I was done with it. If you don't believe that there can be nice people that tow your car then believe it now. The guy doing the towing was VERY nice and actually listened to the person he was towing and tried his best to work with her. After that the women from the tow company took time and called me back to figure out who was supposed to be where so the wrong people wouldn't get towed. I wish I could remember her name but she was just so concerned about making sure everyone was settled and where they should be. Most of these places seem like they don't care they just want as much money as they can get, this place really went above and beyond to not make you feel that way. They're incredibly rude. I was literally given attitude by a lady who picked up the phone because I needed someone towed from a spot. All I'm trying to do is make sure I can park in a spot that I pay money for and that has a sign saying to call Robert's -- the attitude isn't necessary. I'm sorry if that individual on you end is having a difficult life or there are some outside circumstances, I really am, but I don't need to be the pincushion for that, and unless I'm being disrespectful (I wasn't), I deserve to be treated with respect. That's just being a decent human being to another human being on the most basic level. My experience doesn't matter that much to Robert's -- that is pretty obvious. But if you (the reader) take a look at some of the nasty responses that Robert's has posted to other people's reviews, you will see how they view doing business and customer relations. You don't have to agree with your customers -- plenty of people erroneously complain about being towed -- but you don't have to be rude to them either. To the individual from Robert's who is responding to people: you can respond to as many 1 stars as you want, painfully misusing punctuation and threatening/reporting people, but in the end of the day it would seem that the majority of people hate your guts and that's never good for business. You need to admit that sometimes people on your end make mistakes, just like your customers, and that is part of being human. Maybe find the words "I'm sorry" before jumping to being so defensive. This towing company deserves literally the WORST REVIEW EVER. The employee that I had the most unpleasant experience interacting with lacked any human decency, common sense, or rational thought. He was the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL in both his behavior and appearance. I was charged $50 for the man to move his tow truck from in front of my car, despite him doing no actual work or even towing my car because I WAS PRESENT when he TRIED TO START. If I could give this place zero stars I would. This place should not be allowed to operate a business anywhere. I got my car towed and went to check the car for any damage before paying to retrieve it like any sane person would do. While inspecting my car a large man became very confrontational telling me to pay or get out, explained it's my car and he continued to approach me when I tell him to leave me alone he then approached me and acted as if he were going to hit me. I then called the police and had them come to the scene and the officer did not seemed surprised to be sent there as it is probably a common occurrence. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before this place is shut down or someone is arrested. If you do need to retrieve your car don't go alone and be prepared to defend yourself. read more

First off, if you get towed by Robert's know it is cash only. I am one to admit I am wrong. I have been towed by Robert's Towing on more than just this occasion, and was always in the wrong. I obviously was upset, but it was my fault and I had to pay the penalty. Tonight was different. I was parked in a spot that was not clearly labeled as "No Parking" but it was an apartment parking lot so I should have used better judgment. My fault there. This is where I am no longer in the wrong. I hear the tow truck from inside and I run out to catch it. The guy is hooking up my car. I say this is my car and he says "It is coming with me". I ask "Are you serious?" to which he replies "very serious". He then got in his truck and drove off. This was not a pleasant exchange and he was very rude. I finish what I need to do where I was and have my girlfriend drive to the Robert's towing lot. When I get there, I am greeted by the night dispatcher. This guy was not rude at all. I explain how I ran out and caught the guy before he left, and explain that i looked up that I should have been able to pay a $50 drop fee since I caught him before he left. He said that is correct and called the truck driver. He asked him if I caught him, and then said "you were not supposed to do that, you should have unhooked it for a $50 fee" (not exact words, but it came down to that, and I clearly heard him say "you are not supposed to do that") He gets off the phone and says "He said you refused to pay" to which I replied "I was never offered the drop fee and the driver just drove off" He said there was nothing he could do other than try to call the manager during the day. I am not saying my car should not have been hooked up as the super for the bulding I was in called it in, and I am not saying the guy at the desk was a jerk, I am saying the tow truck driver lied to the dispatcher and said I refused to pay, after he already admitted his wrong doing over the phone (or so I assume from what I heard on my end). I can't help but think my being a victim of identity theft came from an employer at this company. Our car was towed by Robert's Towing Company from a parking meter in Boston on a Sunday with a $75 ticket as well. Unfortinely, we did not notice the 8x11 piece of paper printed, in a page protector, and zip tied on the fence behind the meter that said no standing/tow zone. The sign was also pretty weathered from the sleet, rain, and snow that occurred over two days (page protector was open at top). Is this even an official sign?! There were 2 or 3 other cars in the same situation as well, or maybe they were lucky and escaped before being towed. Because of this, time to locate our car, and the 30 minutes to reach the towing company my husband was particularly livid and was arguing and wanted to leave without paying. Once the woman receptionist heard this she called in "back up" and a tow truck barreled in to block the exit and then the woman also pulled her sedan in front of gate bar as well. We were not even in our car and were still standing in parking lot! The guy in the tow truck, who I am going to assume is the owner Robert Kopelman, told us "you can't just leave here, you need to do this right, I will put your car so far back in this lot you won't be able to get it out ". After blowing some steam, we just wanted to get the freak out of there and I went up and paid with credit card, even though the sign said cash only. The woman also asked for my license and this is where I am angry at myself!! Why did she even need my license?!? Secondly, I wish we had paid cash!!!! Fast forward one day later to Monday early afternoon and TJ maxx in Maine has called me regarding a credit card account that attempted to be opened in my name. Then later Monday evening my Kohls charge card was used in Manchester, CT and charged with $982 worth of stuff. Thankfully, Kohls called today to verify this. I am one frustrated New Yorker angry with the city of Boston traffic department, their ridiculous piece of paper signage, and decision to use this company, on top of the icky feeling I have with this towing company! Wish I had this woman's name!!! Do not initiate your own use of them and if you are unfortunate enough to be towed by them, do yourself a favor and stop by an ATM on your way and take out $125!! Consider yourself lucky in avoiding hours of reporting fraud, contacting crediting bureaus, and to speaking police and take ease in hoping the extra money they put in their pockets (by not claiming it with the IRS) is used to give their children a good meal! This type of service from this company seems pretty on par with the rest of the reviews. And to the towing company...we were able to read all the official signs we noticed and no, we were not parked in a construction zone,... the yellow tape around all four meters and cones were added prior to you coming and our return to our missing vehicle. RESPONSE TO Robert's Towing: First, your receptionist was the only person who had access to my drivers license for my two days in Boston. I am unsure why a license was needed. Could you clarify this, because you did not address this in your response? An account was attempted to be opened in my name and a store charge card of mine was used in surrounding areas, but two different states, one day after we were towed. I know that no one expects towing guys to be nice, or for them to give a rat's ass about anything. BUT... there was an incident last night where my friend's car was mistakingly towed from MY parking spot that I OWN, because the towing guy couldn't see the numbers on the ground, so he towed the car from spot 69 instead of from spot 71 (cmon dude, the number 70 has a number on each side of it... get a clue). This resulted in the wrong car being towed, and my friend having to pay $110 bucks for NOTHING. Upon calling, I got a crabby dumbass guy who put me on hold 3 times to check something simple, and each time he came back, said "Robert's Towing" like I was not on hold at all, but was a new caller, and when I said, "No, I'm on hold for you", he answered with, "what was I looking for?" DUDE, did you get dropped on your head and lose your short term memory? I don't want to be snobby, but working in a tow yard is not exactly NUCLEAR SCIENCE. The encounter ended with the guy saying that there was no one there but him (excellent), so no manager to talk to, and the last thing he said was "I really don't care", before hanging up the phone on me. Honestly, if you get your car towed, whether it was your fault or not, be prepared to go to Roberts and treat whoever is working there like a 2 year old, because that's how smart they are.
