got one that all yall: my apartment building has a parking lot behind the building, run by robert's towing. i had a bunch of heavy packages i was taking to the post office, so i got my car and pulled it into the lot, put on my blinkers, and even wrote a sign - because i know what pricks they are - saying "call me at this numer or come to this aprtment number if you need me to move...im loading boxes into my car" got one box down there, went back upstairs, saw i mislabeled the package, had to redo it, took maybe 7 minutes. get downstairs...car is gone read more

Car got towed, our bad. Called ahead, guy said it was on the lot. Drive to get cash, drive to Roberts. Call ahead, guy confirms the car is there. Oh guess what... the car isn't here. It's 12:15am. It's "on another lot". Even though we called ahead to confirm... no sorry, no nothing. Just "you can wait in your car". Again, completely get the towing, but if you're responsible for the service then be responsible. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This place should not be allowed to operate a business anywhere. I got my car towed and went to check the car for any damage before paying to retrieve it like any sane person would do. While inspecting my car a large man became very confrontational telling me to pay or get out, explained it's my car and he continued to approach me when I tell him to leave me alone he then approached me and acted as if he were going to hit me. I then called the police and had them come to the scene and the officer did not seemed surprised to be sent there as it is probably a common occurrence. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before this place is shut down or someone is arrested. If you do need to retrieve your car don't go alone and be prepared to defend yourself. read more

This is a a predatory "patrol towing" company and it's a public problem for the Allston/Brighton community. Predatory towing. I understand there is a time, a place and a need for tow companies in the city but this company doesn't fit that bill. They sit and wait in hot spots where they can catch the most "fish" even when the owners of the lots haven't asked them to remove any cars. read more

By far and away the most unprofessional, shady company I have ever dealt with. They towed me from my own, private parking spot behind my apartment this morning. The same spot I park in every single night. The spot I pay extra money for, as a student, every month. How did they react to my inquiry/ concern when they called? The woman answering the phone got hostile and then hung up on me. No I have to pay $130 to get my car back for being parked in my very own spot, where its supposed to be parked. This company needs to be investigated by the State. read more

Robert, thank you for your candid reply and I would like to mention that just because the report and the video is from 4 years ago, it does not mean that Robert's Towing has improved as you sound quite proud of your operation 4 years ago so why change it, so the time factor does not play an effect in your defense. I simply stumbled upon both the video and the interview and discovered the multifaceted predatory routines and techniques towing company employees utilize to maximize profit. To be honest, I'm not trying to single you guys out as I believe all tow companies do this (tbh, I think you guys are very lucky and good in acquiring the towing rights to many "hot" properties around Brighton and Brookline), but I simply discovered the behaviors through researching Robert's Towing. Also, I don't blame you guys in doing this as all businesses exist to make a profit, but I do think people should be given the chance to look into how Robert's Towing became a multimillion dollar business in yearly revenue, but a multimillion dollar business that only takes cash? Talking about an opportunity for tax evasion... lol All I'm saying is a little due process would have been appreciated. Furthermore, I would like to mention that I was in Blanchard's Liquors when my vehicle was towed and your tow drivers did not make an announcement (or perhaps I missed it), so I don't know what you're talking about in trespassing a private property unless the lot is owned by Robert's Towing and you guys can tow whomever you wish that happens to be on that lot. In fact, what made this an unjust and inequitable tow is that when I showed your employee my receipt from Blanchard's, which was timestamped, your employee chose to ignore the evidence and held my vehicle hostage until I paid the fine. Also, the shady part of this transaction is that if I had waited in hopes to clear up everything, a fee would have been added based on the amount of time you held my car, so your employee and business had essentially cornered me into paying with no third party to regulate and to make a fair judgment of what should have been the correct outcome. read more

I'm not here to argue the fact that my car was parked illegally and the building manager called for it to be removed. But the fact when the tow truck sees you coming, they hurry up to get you on the hook so they can charge you $50 for doing no work. And the fact your tow truck drivers lack respect for the person they just jacked for $50 is even better. Being told to Shut my fucking mouth and shut the fuck up, more than once when questioning the driver? UPDATE: I sued the company in small claims court, AND WON! BUH BAM! This morning (4/30/13) my car was boosted up on a tow truck by Robert's Towing. The vehicle was parked in the rear parking lot at Tynan Elementary School in South Boston (corner of Emerson and K Street). You can legally park there in the evening, until 7 AM in the morning. I arrived at exactly 7 to move my car, and a tow truck had already boosted it up. I told the driver to stop and he pulled out of the parking lot. I told him that it was 6:59 and he said, no it's 7:02, and said I was parked illegally. He immediately demanded a 90 dollar fee (cash only) because the car had been taken off the lot. I told him I saw him just drive it off the lot and asked him to put the car down be sensible, since I showed up right at 7 AM. He refused and said "rules are rules". I didn't have $90 on me, so I asked to go to an ATM. He said I "had two minutes". I had to run to an ATM, run back, and then he didn't have change, so I had to beg a local bakery to help me out. I felt I had no choice, so I gave him the money. Looking back on it, he must have put my car up on his truck prior to 7 AM, since I showed up right on time. I understand these tow truck drivers have to deal with angry people all day, and people who park illegally should have their cars removed, but that was not the case in this instance. The driver was completely unreasonable and just wanted my money. He showed a complete lack of respect, integrity, and rationality. I was completely taken advantage of! read more

Sketchy company with illegal business practices. I was towed from a residents spot that I have parked in for 8 years. When I called, I was told to "take it up with the property manager". So I proceeded to go to Robert's with the property manager of my apartment building who explained that my vehicle was towed out of my parking spot illegally. They still made me pay $141 to get it back and admitted no wrong-doing. My landlord and property manager then instructed me to file a claim at the county courthouse. Upon doing so, the county clerk told me I needed an individual's name (not just a business name) to go on the claim. When I called Robert's towing, they REFUSED to give me a last name of the owner. So I tried to get the name of the person on the phone, and of course he wouldn't give it to me either. Thankfully Google provided some help in finding Robert Kopelman as the owner. Calling these people scumbags is the understatement of the year. I'll see you in court.... I can't help but think my being a victim of identity theft came from an employer at this company. Our car was towed by Robert's Towing Company from a parking meter in Boston on a Sunday with a $75 ticket as well. Unfortinely, we did not notice the 8x11 piece of paper printed, in a page protector, and zip tied on the fence behind the meter that said no standing/tow zone. The sign was also pretty weathered from the sleet, rain, and snow that occurred over two days (page protector was open at top). Is this even an official sign?! There were 2 or 3 other cars in the same situation as well, or maybe they were lucky and escaped before being towed. Because of this, time to locate our car, and the 30 minutes to reach the towing company my husband was particularly livid and was arguing and wanted to leave without paying. Once the woman receptionist heard this she called in "back up" and a tow truck barreled in to block the exit and then the woman also pulled her sedan in front of gate bar as well. We were not even in our car and were still standing in parking lot! The guy in the tow truck, who I am going to assume is the owner Robert Kopelman, told us "you can't just leave here, you need to do this right, I will put your car so far back in this lot you won't be able to get it out ". After blowing some steam, we just wanted to get the freak out of there and I went up and paid with credit card, even though the sign said cash only. The woman also asked for my license and this is where I am angry at myself!! Why did she even need my license?!? Secondly, I wish we had paid cash!!!! Fast forward one day later to Monday early afternoon and TJ maxx in Maine has called me regarding a credit card account that attempted to be opened in my name. Then later Monday evening my Kohls charge card was used in Manchester, CT and charged with $982 worth of stuff. Thankfully, Kohls called today to verify this. I am one frustrated New Yorker angry with the city of Boston traffic department, their ridiculous piece of paper signage, and decision to use this company, on top of the icky feeling I have with this towing company! Wish I had this woman's name!!! Do not initiate your own use of them and if you are unfortunate enough to be towed by them, do yourself a favor and stop by an ATM on your way and take out $125!! Consider yourself lucky in avoiding hours of reporting fraud, contacting crediting bureaus, and to speaking police and take ease in hoping the extra money they put in their pockets (by not claiming it with the IRS) is used to give their children a good meal! This type of service from this company seems pretty on par with the rest of the reviews. And to the towing company...we were able to read all the official signs we noticed and no, we were not parked in a construction zone,... the yellow tape around all four meters and cones were added prior to you coming and our return to our missing vehicle. RESPONSE TO Robert's Towing: First, your receptionist was the only person who had access to my drivers license for my two days in Boston. I am unsure why a license was needed. Could you clarify this, because you did not address this in your response? An account was attempted to be opened in my name and a store charge card of mine was used in surrounding areas, but two different states, one day after we were towed. The stores have provided details on exactly when and what registers the false purchases and accounts were made. read more

Worst experience today. Ran into B.U. Dental today for my appointment for them to tell me the doctor needs to reschedule. Walk out 15 minutes later to find my car had been towed. I asked the parking attendant across the street why they towed my car and he said "there's supposed to be a no parking sign there". Called the number, the woman was rude, told me the address and to bring 130 bucks. I asked the woman why I was towed and she said there's no parking there. I said there aren't even any signs. She says they don't need to post signs at every spot. I arrange a ride ( my husband luckily works at B.U. but has to clock out to get me) and she tells me cash only. Now we go to an ATM go back and she tells me $138! Luckily I had the extra money on me or we'd be going back to the ATM! I am not letting this go My response to Roberts towing How can the picture be "strategically"taken? A picture is a picture. There is a sign but it's in the spot in front of the Camry. I know you told me the MA General law. That doesn't make it right. If there is no parking on the whole street then the signs should say "no parking this side of street". How would anyone know that a sign above one spot saying no parking would mean no parking for the next 3 spaces either? I realize you probably deal with disgruntled people every day but honestly you make the whole situation worse. I don't believe I ever yelled and if I did then you were also yelling because we were talking the same. You got all upset when I asked for the name of the company that towed me because I was going to fight it. And talked very condescending. Why do you care if I want to fight this with the company. I don't believe there was adequate signage. And I believe your company knows that, that's why the tow truck went by twice in the half hour I was there! read more

If you want your vehicle towed the wrong way this is the company for you. Robert's Towing tried to tow my AWD on a hook (HUGE no-no); an AWD vehicle MUST go on a flat bed. You also shouldn't be towing a car that's in park on a hook... it needs to be in neutral.... Just another reason for the flat bed. When it comes to professionalism and legality, I'm unsure who the woman riding around in the front of the truck with the tow driver was... If she works for the company my advance apologies, but I'm pretty sure it's safe to say she doesn't work for the towing coming. I'd advise looking into another business. read more

I wish it were possible to give zero or negative stars. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR TOWING! This company is completely predatory. They circle lots looking for cars to tow. I parked in my daughter's parking lot to help her carry her groceries in. We carried about 9 bags into the foyer of her building and then made multiple trips up and down the stairs to bring up her groceries. I went back out and they were just pulling my car our of the space. I was inside less than 5 minutes! It is impossible that someone called. The lot was 1/2 empty. My own groceries were still in the car in the back. The driver said "Show me a sign where it says you can park here to help your daughter upstairs with groceries. You parked here you get towed." They basically stole my car and then charged me $155.00 to get it back. This is robbery plain and simple. If you are a landlord or a management company and you are looking for someone to manage your towing, look elsewhere! My wife and I parked at the super cuts & 2 other businesses small parking lot at the corner of Hammond and Boylston Street in Brookline this afternoon (9/17/2015). Before proceeding to super cuts we went to Rockland Trust next door for less than 5 minutes. When my wife returned from depositing a check and was going to super cuts, our car was already attached to the tow truck to be towed away. We protested vehemently because we were previous customers of super cuts and could prove it. I called the Brookline Police and an officer responded. He informed me that the parking lot was private property and the towing outfit was within its rights. They had demanded $75 fine to prevent our car being towed. They lowered the fine for which I give them 1 undeserved star. We were, in effect, swindled out of $50 by an unscrupulous business which only serves business and has no regard for the individual or for unusual circumstances. I would recommend that nobody patronize a business whose parking lot has a sign prohibiting parking for customers not at that moment patronizing a business. Only when these businesses lose customers like super cuts has lost ours, will this unethical practice stop. Carl J. Cedargren read more

I am not slandering anyone just stating facts. I didn't say he was arguing with anybody just that he was yelling at other drivers, which he was. It was 5 car lengths that the vehicle was dragged if that's more helpful. The e-brake was definitely on everyone in the area was watching and hearing what happened and was wondering how someone could be so incompetent. The driver seemed flustered which maybe was why he was doing his job improperly or it could have been vice versa either way it happened. Also you haven't fought my claim of your driver not securing the car being towed properly, so I'm taking that as an admission of guilt. This is extremely dangerous and should not being taken lightly. I saw your employee knowingly put at risk other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and himself. It is a very great to hear that the car didn't fall off the truck as that could have been a terrible situation for anyone involved including your business. Thank you for updating me. All I know is that if a business owner thinks it's worth their while to respond to nearly every review on yelp with the kind of overly defensive and combative attitude that is portrayed through your posts, without the intention of actually getting to the bottom of a legitimate complaint, the claims stated here are more likely than not true. Please admit to the fact you don't care about any claim presented here and that you only respond to feed some sort of self righteous need to defend your poor business practices. read more

As I was pulling out my car, one of the towing truck literally dropped a car right behind me so that cannot I move my car anymore. As I got out of my car with my parking pass, the driver of the tow truck yells to his mate "this guy is *effing lucky, he has a pass". I don't even know where to start. This is the worst experience I've ever had in my life!!!!! I've just moved here in Boston. I'm a therapist and I went to a resident's house to provide my services. They gave me a parking ticket to park in their apartment building. Halfway through my session, they warned that my car is getting towed. Left my patient to run and stop my car from getting towed. The dude asked me to pay right away $60 so they don't remove my car. I told them I have no cash and showed my parking ticket to show I was legally parked. The dude kept going to tell me that he doesn't care and if I didn't have the money, I'm getting towed. Then he continues by saying I'm getting an attitude and he will make me pay for my ego. He started cursing. And damaged the back of my car cuz he was so angry. I started crying cuz I just moved here and didn't know anybody to drive me to go get my car. He did now care. We called this place asking if our car was towed here after a snow storm. After giving the license plate number several times, the dispatcher said the car had already been picked up. We were obviously confused and wanted clarification since we definitely did not pick the car up. He accused us of being drunk and hung up the phone. I called again and he told me to come to the lot to check if the car was there and had been marked as picked up by mistake. So we took an uber down there, the car was not in the lot, and after I asked again if he's sure he can't get any more information about when the car was picked up or by whom, he decided to look at the date and the car was picked up LAST YEAR from a different towing incident. This was a huge waste of time, all the dispatcher had to do was CHECK THE DATE OF WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED AND PICKED UP instead of refusing to look into it when we asked for clarification and making us think the car was stolen. They then proceeded to leave with that car, back to the place they found it initially. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!???? This business is doing illegal activity. Another time, they stalked my friend, towed her car while she was in it with the engine running. They forced her out, and her and her boyfriend followed these laughing fools in another car, to the lot. They followed these jerks on a joy ride around town, stopping at convenient stores for snacks and drinks with her car in tow, while pointing and laughing at them. This is pure harassment. This past week I was walking down chestnut hill avenue, and I saw a reckless driver from this company, who had a car hanging off the back sideways, and hanging by one tire. The car in tow was being dragged over the yellow line into oncoming traffic. The tow truck veered into the cumberland farms parking lot, almost hit me in the side walk, and just dropped the car HARD on the ground. He backed back under the car, and hooked it back up fast, and peeled out of the parking lot...no blinker or anything. I cant believe these incompetent, hard headed idiots are still in business. They need to be shut down. I regret not recording the license plates of these poor people's vehicles being damaged and mishandled so badly. I called them and asked why they towed my car, the dispatcher was decent and helpful, i heard him call Robert to ask whats up with the car and why it was towed, i hear Robert respond calling my car a piece of shit, he checked it and sure enough he saw the permit sticker on my car but also decided to comment "she better make sure nobody puts some vodoo on her ass with this crucifix looking thing she has in the window" (this crucifix thing he spoke of was something my daughter wove in 3rd grade and looks nothing like whatever he mentioned) he probably felt stupid because he obviously doesn't know how to do his job, but i could've been spared the extra commentary, there was more mumbling from him but i don't know or care what else he was saying.
