Wow, I think a place that is going to last in Totowa! My husband and I stopped in last night! We were picking up furniture and wanted to bring dinner home because we weren't dressed to nicely! We were on the hunt for Gluten Free and hubby found this little gem. The owner Robert's(who came over to chat) with a gener wife and daughter have Celiac Disease and he was very informed and helpful. They will make any item on the menu gluten free so there is no need to pick and choose your apps/entree. First off the restaurant is lovely, certainly not what you would expect in a strip mall off Route 46. About 12 comfortable tables plus a small area behind a divider for privaye parties. Hubby got the special strip steak with a generous topping of tarragon butter with roasted brussel sprout and carrots. He said it was delicious and it was cooked perfectly medium like he ordered. I got the chicken breast topped gorgonzola cream and prosciutto and string beans and roasted potatoes on the side. The chicken was a huge portion, juicy and sweet and you would never know this dish was gluten free. Delicious! My diet is so limited so it's always good to find a restaurant that understands my restrictions but does such a great job too! Can't wait to come back! read more

5 Stars was an easy decision. My wife and I were both pleased and we're not that easy to please. Everything that matters was very good. The food, service, atmosphere and price were all to our liking. Not the very best of any of those things we've ever had, but I don't think you can ever hope to get all those things in one place. This is a solid place that I'm sure I'll be back to. Robert's is a blueprint for small restaurants. This is how you succeed: Small menu, fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and delicious food. Robert adds a nice touch by greeting every table. This place is on point. My husband and I went for our Anniversary and had one of the best meals EVER! I had one of the specials. I started with the clams appetizer special stuffed with chopped clams, sausage and bread crumbs. OMG it was love at first bite then I had the filet mignon with crab meat on top,string-beans with carrots and roasted potatoes. Then I had a peanut butter and chocolate tower type of concoction that was heavily. My husband had a salad with pears in it to start and he can really only eat chicken so he had the Marsala he said it was great and for dessert he had the flan which he liked as well. I really did want to love this place. There was nice atmosphere and the service was very attentive and accommodating. But sad to say that the food was underwhelming. To the point that my gf sent her entree back. The owner took the dish off the bill and was very nice. I had their signature dish the veal chop and it was average at best. My wife and I dined at RSK Friday night. First let me say the atmospher was perfect. The lighting was not too dark or too bright and the place was nicely decorated The service was outstanding. If you are lucky enough to get jose you are going to experience a high level of service and presentation. He used an IPad to display the specials as he described them ...Brilliant! The blue point oysters we had as an appetizer literally melted in your mouth....very fresh Our entrees were perfect....I had a steak which was prepared as well as any steak house and my wife and our friend had the scallop and shrimp rissotto....wonderful The best part of the evening was dessert. There seems to be a competition going on between the owners (Rob) pear pie and jose tiramisu. So we ordered both along with a peanut pie to share between the four of us. The pear pie was amazing! I've passed RSK for a year, never stopped in. The other nite met my friend at Hobby Lobby and looked on Yelp restaurants near me. This place had 4 1/2 , so glad we tried it! Hand cut fries with provolone & long hot peppers caught our eye! It was delish, along w the Orrechiette w sausage crumble & broccoli rabe that was to die for, not bitter, but savory! This place is amazing. I went for lunch and was not busy at all. I forget the name of the appetizer but it was French fries with sausage, cheese and long hots. So good. For lunch I ordered salmon and it was one of the most PERFECTLY cooked pieces of fish I've ever eaten. I'm surprised that this restaurant wasn't busier. If you're local, I recommend you try it. A few people had recommended this restaurant so thought we would give it a try. It was my anniversary and wanted a nice night out. At first everyone was very attentive. 4 people helped us within the first 10 minutes. Once we got our entrees no one stopped by to see how the food was. I got scallops with the pumpkin butternut squash risotto. The scallops were over cooked. I like my scallops not slimy, but these were a little rubbery. the risotto had no flavor what so ever. I heard the people at the next table ask the waiter about it and I heard them comment that it didn't really have any flavor. I think it must have been cooked in water instead of chicken broth and it didn't seem like they put any cheese in it. I took it home with me and had my husband doctor it up. It was very good then, how it should have been. My husband got the veal chop parm and enjoyed it for many days. Not a fan of this place and will not be returning anytime soon. read more

The owner is a large friendly guy that really cares about your satisfaction and keeps checking in on you !! I love that . The best part is the menu is easy to navigate and always changing plus the waiter shows you the dishes on a tablet to make it easier for you ! Blows away most others in a 5mile radius easy ! I went out for my first COVID-era meal and I am so pleased I went to Robert's Scratch Kitchen. I moved to the area a year ago from Philadelphia and really wanted an excellent meal experience like I'm used to, especially for my first meal that wasn't home made or take out! When i arrived and it was raining i was worried their outdoor seating would put me in the rain, but I was comfortably seated away under an overhang, which i noticed was the case with a tent set up in their parking lot to accommodate all their diners. The servers were incredibly professional and carried themselves well. They had iPads to help you follow along as they would recite the specials from memory. Throughout the meal they were attentive without being excessive and did a find job of making sure we were all comfortable. The food was the very best part -- the seasonal menu left me wanting to come back and see what else they offer at other times of the year. I was so pleased with the execution of the food, the portions were generous, they were beautifully plated and cooked perfectly. I personally had the linguine and clams at the recommendation of the server and he wasn't wrong. It was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to Jose and the entire team for a superb experience. I am so grateful and now that I have found a place I really enjoyed, I will be back again. Don't sleep on this excellent dining experience. I was highly impressed with this restaurant. For only being open for a few months, this place puts other restaurants in the area to shame! We started out with the calamari and meatball salad (highly recommended). For entrees we got 2 specials: vodka parm pork chop and bang bang shrimp. Both were phenomenal. I am a West Coast Transplant, and I have been to some very elegant establishments; Palm Springs resorts, Beverly Hills steakhouses, Santa Barbara cliff-side restaurants, Portland trendy eateries, Seattle seafood and wine houses...and what I have taken with me that I still seek over here, is atmosphere and experience. Whether I'm eating at a Greasy Spoon with sticky counters, or an exclusive restaurant with white linens and sparkling wine glasses, I want the experience, feeling and atmosphere of where ever I am. This place, Robert's Scratch Kitchen, has deeply impressed me clear across the board. Not only does it have the smoldering sexy vibe of an L.A. place, but it has the elegant and classy atmosphere of a Manhattan restaurant that you'd find tucked away with a 3 week waiting list. But, UNLIKE an L.A. or Manhattan restaurant, Robert's scratch Kitchen will not break the bank, and I did not find myself choosing one dish over another because of price. Rather, because of the outstanding menu, I toggled back and forth between dishes because everything looked so good. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, and I say surprisingly because the menu is so diverse and gourmet. ...gourmet with a very current, hip "now" flare. It's actually a fun menu, reminiscent also of hot summer nights in Atlantic City; dressed up in a beautiful place and ordering trendy fun appetizers. That's also what it reminded me of...the consummate "good time with friends" place. And, their gluten free selections are just so fantastic...and good, too! Really, really good. I ordered the NY Strip and I have to say that it was every bit as wonderful as an actual steakhouse, (minus the $60 price of a steakhouse) and what really impressed me, believe it or not, were the red potatoes that were served on the plate. Usually, potatoes and asparagus are sort of "background" and standard. But these red potatoes were so smokey and tender and unlike any I've ever had. I commented to the owner how much I enjoyed the potatoes and he said that, indeed, everything really is fresh and made from scratch, and the side dishes get as much attention in the kitchen as the entree. It shows. It's a Bring Your Own Bottle place, but your bottle is treated with respect as if you ordered it from them; they place it in an ice bucket table side, bring glasses, uncork, the whole smash. It really is full service. And the owner is so very warm and engaging, truly interested in your experience and needs. I saw a family come in with a child, and the owner made that family feel as welcome as every other guest, and even told the mother that the chef will make anything for the little girl. While there is no children's menu, children will do just fine here. (I am a mother, and I work with special needs children, so I am especially aware of how people treat children and their families. I was impressed, and frankly, I was touched. It was very, very nice.) Dessert selections will not disappoint, nor will the waiter offering you different selections of coffee. Aaaahhh...my Seattle life revisited. Espresso or house, it's wonderful. Copper tray back lit ceilings, soft lights, gorgeous ambiance. Dress up with a date, or come casual. I've been here twice and done both, and had the very same service. The owner very obviously wants to just please his guests. 5 stars, and full applause to this place. My wife and I ate here 2 weeks ago. The atmosphere, waitstaff and food was excellent! First, the dinning room has been redesigned and it flows much better. The tin roof dropped ceiling and chandeliers are pretty cool. The room is designed well with plenty of space and was not too loud. The waitstaff was very attentive and on hand quite a bit, even though the dinning room was pretty full. The service was excellent - didn't have to ask for water, bread, or anything. They came immediately when they saw we needed something. The food was excellent (though a little pricey). I ordered a stuffed clams and crab cake appetizer that was good (clams had a little too much breadcrumbs, but crab cake was on the money). The main course was a stuffed pork chop special that WAS EXCELLENT! My wife had an octopus appetizer that was really good (better than my appetizer) and a Bronzino over spinach that was the special and it was great (she actually complimented the chef - first time I've heard that from her - lol). Lastly we split a chocolate and peanut butter dessert that was phenomenal. You will need reservations, but I highly recommend the place. read more

Very good new "seasonal" BYOB where Porcini's was. They did a great job redecorating. Service was excellent if a little overbearing. Server uses IPad to illustrate the specials. Even though it is a seasonal menu, they had plenty of additional specials. The 1lb lobster tail was excellent, however, my $30 seafood risotto had only one shrimp. They could have been a little more flexible with there reservation policy, as we were told only before 5:30 for two people. When we left at 7, the room was not even 1/2 filled, with empty tables for two. read more

We ate here on a Saturday night just before the holidays. Called that afternoon and left a message asking to switch the reservation from four people to six. They called back right away to say they did not have anything, but would call if something opened up. A few hours later they called back to say they had a six-top for us. It is a beautiful restaurant. The service was amazing -- they were quick when my husband spilled something and very attentive, but not overly so. We all enjoyed our food. Most of us had the specials. Our new favorite place. Firstly, we were greeted very warmly by Robert, as well as other staff. The decor is very appealing. Being a BYOB, this is the only mistake they made. The wait staff poured the wine without giving me a moment to taste it first. No, I wouldn't have "returned" the bottle, but still. Otherwise, spot on. They have a great team feeling to the staff. I like the iPad photos of the specials...nice touch. The bread was warm and crusty. The meat, cheese and olive appetizer was very good. It had a nice mix of fresh mozzarella and hard Italian cheese. I had the pasta carbonara with grilled shrimp. The shrimp were grilled perfectly and the carbonara was, dare I say, light?! How do you do that? My wife's fish dish was mild, yet flavorful. My fiancé and I made a spontaneous dinner decision as we were coming from a pool store. We were immediately glad with our choice. The owner Robert was extremely welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. I had the snapper and my fiancé had meatballs and spaghetti.
