The rare repair shop where they won't try to scare you into getting more repairs than is necessary, and the work is always high-quality. I live in Downers Grove and still take my vehicles to Roberts because they're as trustworthy as they come. Made the mistake of getting oil change at a Midas (because it was closer) and they tried to scare me into spending $5k in repairs. Took the car to Roberts and ended up spending ~$1400 because they told me what needed to be done and what didn't (yet). The same services I chose to get done with Roberts would've costed much more. We're very happy that Roberts Auto took over (and cleaned up) the service center on Rt. 71! We got an appointment quickly, and Tim did an excellent job at a reasonable price. My husband keeps saying how happy he is with his new brakes, which never happens when I get his car serviced. Tim and Pam did a lovely job of renovating the shop, too. People hate taking their cars to be repaired because some mechanics will charge you an arm and a leg for mediocre service. You don't need to worry about that with these folks. They are extremely honest and will do what they can to save you money. We brought our old car in for alternator trouble and received a phone call later telling us that it was an electrical problem beyond the alternator and while he could fix it, it would be very expensive and he would feel bad recommending the service, as the car was aging. He could have easily said, "Yep, you gotta do this!" and cleaned up on our repairs, but he didn't. Nice to deal with honest people! Additionally, the family-owned business does a ton of of charity work and community service. You'll always see fund-raiser flyers or candy bars for the local elementary and high schools here. read more

I took my son's car in for an overheating problem. Since the weather was bad, I didn't have the chance to get under the hood to see for myself what the problem may have been (i.e. faulty radiator, water pump, etc). Instead, I took a chance and drove it over to Roberts. Got a call back from Tim (the owner) the same day who let me know that the car just had a bad radiator hose due to a small oil leak (a simple and inexpensive fix!). At this point, too many mechanics/shops would have taken advantage of a simple repair like this to try and upsell costly and unnecessary repairs (I know, I've been to a few like this here in Oswego!). A good and HONEST mechanic is worth his weight in gold. Tim has proven himself to be worthy of my business so Roberts will be my "go to" place for auto repairs from now on! I'll be sure to let my family friends know to do the same. read more
