Dr. Schellentrager is a "business" dentist. After your first visit you will end up in a room with he and his business manager, typically with a very expensive treatment plan to bring your teeth to what he considers an optimal state. I have visited several dentists who operate in this manner. I am not implying he is not a highly skilled dentist., nor that one's teeth would not look great when he completed all of this work, but I just need the basics: cleaning, fillings, and crowns, as needed. Most reviews indicate that he is perceived as competent, but it is jolting when you are presented a treatment plan in the tens of thousands of dollars. There was a sense of indignation when I declined to initiate services given "all the time we spent putting together this plan." Perhaps if I was wealthy I might have considered him, but I am just interested in the basics. I followed up the visit with a dentist I had been seeing in the North Bay for some years (for a second opinion), recommended by another dentist I had seen for over ten years. He told me I had no cavities and all of the work proposed was unnecessary, other than for cosmetic purposes. I found an honest dentist who met my needs very well in Aptos. read more

I'm going to start off with the obvious: I hate dentists. I hate the smell of enamel dust. I hate being left to recline somewhere in between upright and down. And quite frankly, I get creeped out by men wearing magnified bifocals looking deep into the recesses of my mouth. With that being said, I must begrudgingly admit that I will trust my teeth to no one except Dr. Bob. You see, all the assistants at the office call him Dr. Bob... sounds innocent enough, doesn't it? Well, Dr. Bob only hires the hottest blond assistants (hell, who am I kidding, his ENTIRE staff is hot) in all of Sweden, if not the world. They're like fembots in white dental uniforms. As I drift into nitrous oxide land, Heidi's face is nothing if not soothing to stare into. Dr. Bob, on the other hand, is intimidating as all hell. But you know what, his walls are lined with diplomas and certificates, and I well, I can respect that. He's a no nonsense kinda dude, and his skills justify every bit of arrogance he exudes. His dental office is full service, and while he is more than proficient at the basic stuff, Dr. Bob truly is an artist when it comes to the cosmetic stuff. He has a lab where another hot blond chick makes crowns and veneers on the spot. Super convenient, since you don't have to wait for another lab to crank out your pearly whites. She will match your teeth (color, shape, etc) to whatever it is that they will be putting in. Hockey players take note. I have nightmares that someday all my teeth will fall out, so finding an excellent quality dentist is one of those stressful events that I have suffered greatly through. While I have probably paid for at least one of his kid's college educations (or one of his trips to Fiji), I can honestly say that I wouldn't trust my teeth to anyone else in the entire state. I have had several dentists over the years. Unhappy with all of them my Mother kept saying you have to go to my dentist!! Finally listened to her advice and went. I found from the first phone call his receptionist was extremely professional and efficient. Quickly was able to make an appointment and get in. His assistants are very knowledgeable and experienced. Dr. Bob is very professional and experienced as well. He has filled cavities, made crowns (that was the best part didn't have to wait forever with a temporary crown he made it while i waited!!!) Dr. Schellentrager is an outstanding dentist. He has exceptional skills, patience, and excellent communication. He is truly a gem. My procedure was more complicated than we originally anticipated, and I wasn't worried one bit as I knew I was receiving the best dental care possible. I am happy with the results. Krista, Brandie, and Teresa are true professionals--who in addition to also making you feel relaxed, work flawlessly with Dr. Bob in whatever procedure he might need to do. I've had some doozy issues arise--broken teeth, crowns, etc from an active lifestyle. I've always felt like Dr. Bob and his staff have looked at each issue as a challenge to provide me with the best functional and aesthetic outcome...and they've always succeeded--not just with their medical skill, but with making me feel cared about. I've just met Dr. S. and his staff, had my first evaluative exam and proposed treatment for my initial problem. I have great hopes for what's going to be a long term relationship, given the shape my teeth are in. I had the best dentist I could hope for, and then he had the gall to retire. Aaargh. I knew it would come, but surely he would continue to work until I died. The person who replaced him made some serious mistakes which were going to, at the minimum, lose me a tooth. I stumbled on Dr. S.'s office while walking my dog. I stopped and knocked on the door which was unlocked. Himself came to the door. I said I was looking for a dentist. He resonded, 'You've found one.' As others have reviewed, this practice looks like a gem. Quiet. Very pleasant staff. Waited on insurance before accepting co-pay for evaluative appointment. Seemed to think insurance would pay more than I did. Easy to get appointment. Responsive to my financial situation, put off some procedures that could wait in order to reduce expense. Responsive to my needs. I only give 4 stars because I've only had one appointment. I'll come back to this review as time goes on. Note: Emma G. is my nom de internet. I have been a patient of Robert Schellentrager for just over 5 years, I am completely thrilled with this office. Robert is very easy to talk to and listens to my wants and needs, I get complements on my smile all the time. When I first started going to his office I was not a big fan of going to the dentist, this office is so up to date on modern technology and so friendly I felt totally comfortable. The staff has never missed a conformation and is easy to schedule with, not to mention his assistants are really friendly and always answer all my crazy questions. Having recently won a raffle for a cleaning and exam reminded me of how exceptional Dr. Bob is as I happily return to our "real" dentist. He and Krista are miracle workers and from root canals, to crowns, to implants, to fillings (yes, my husband and I have been fortunate to have seen him over many years) ,Dr. Bob will take as much time as needed to insure that when you leave everything is perfect. Having his own lab on the premises is a tremendous bonus as well in terms of having everything fitted with exact precision.
