Going to a dentist is my worst fear, so it had been 11 years since my last visit. The moment I stepped into Capitola Dental, I felt very welcomed and calm. The whole experience far exceeded my expectations. I was greeted warmly by the office staff, Abby (the hygienist) was so comforting and communicative every step of the way. Then I met with Dr. Oretga to discuss the plan of attack for getting much needed work done. He understood my fears and discussed with me the best plan over the next year to get my teeth back in good repair. From the moment I walked in the door I could see I had found a very lovely dental office! The staff was very warm and welcoming and the patients leaving as I waited were all pleased with their services. I had a cleaning and I must say Mari was an excellent hygienist very personable! I had to return a few days later to have a crown replaced and Dr.Vittadi along with Kristin her associate were excellent and very thorough! I'm so happy to have found this dental office! I'm writing this review in hopes that it helps someone else. My family were referred to Capitola Dental. All 3 of us had decent experiences with our cleanings. I was told I required a partial crown. I paid $750 out of pocket and was told my insurance would pay the other half. Long story short, Capitola Dental did not get this work authorized and my insurance denied saying that my tooth did not require a crown. Decia, the person that deals with these things was quite gruff and talked loudly over me - interacting with her was a very stressful experience. My son required 2 cavities and similar to me, his insurance (different than mine) declined and we need to pay the full cost or go to collections. So, long story short, they do not pre-auth their work and you may be on the hook for the full cost. While the work done was good, the experience was incredibly bad and I would never recommend or go to this office again. I hope this review helps someone :) read more

The location is conveniently situated, and the office, which is a cute converted house, is always immaculate and welcoming. I have had quite a few dental issues so have been worked on by quite a few people over the years and every single dentist and assistant I've encountered has been fantastic. They have state-of-the-art equipment and stay on top of all the most up-to-date best practices, ensuring that every procedure is performed with the highest level of care and precision. I used to dread going to the dentist, but the team here has completely changed that for me. They are all incredibly friendly and make each visit enjoyable. A special shoutout goes to Dacia, who works the front desk. She handles all scheduling and insurance matters with such efficiency. Dacia has gone above and beyond in helping me navigate complicated insurance claims and ensuring that I am optimizing my benefits. She has also been a tremendous help during times when my insurance changed as well as when I had some health issues that impacted the timing of my procedures. While surprised to learn of Dr. Schellentrager's retirement, Dr. Ortega and his staff earned my greatest appreciation and confidence performing a complete crown procedure in one sitting. I just met Dr Ortega and he is a very nice man. He helped me to understand what I needed after to get my mouth back in order. He gave me a clear treatment plan including cost.
