As far as the little food shack goes they have burgers, fries, fish, shrimp, and things of that nature. All super yummy. They also have ice cream and other treats. My friend and I visited this park and area for the day and had a great time. It was very difficult to find via YELP and MapQuest. However, once we found it, the drive was well worth it from Queens. We paid our $10 for parking and went on our merry way. They have two large parking areas and a restroom area that was sanitary to use. The beach area wasn't crowded and it was clean! We walked on the beach and strolled before checking out the lighthouse and grabbing something to eat. It very relaxed on the beach, there was no loud music and children running rampant. This is definitely a spot I would return to again for some peace and clean environment. read more

I LOVEEEE this beach so much. I've never loved anything as much as I love the sun and the ocean. It's a total oasis and the perfect spot to hang back during summer. Last summer I resorted to coming here solo, parking at field 5 and breathing in all of the wonder, beauty and nature. This is my happy place. $10 to get in stinks and so does the bumper to bumper traffic but if you go early enough or on a weekday it isn't so bad. late august/early September gets pretty dead. I used to go here about 10 years ago - and 10 years ago it was definite 10. Quiet, reserved, relaxing time. I lugged the family - including a 7 year old, 3 yr old and 4 month old - to field 5 this weekend for the first time in a decade. The family in front of us started drinking, and swearing up a storm. But that was nothing, let people be. By 3:00 it seemed all the gloves were off and groups of guys just started settling around us smoking weed. I'm there with my kids playing in the sand, and you plunk down right around us and let that in the air. Now, if you wanna do that, and I walk by you, that's cool. You do you, it's probably going to be legal everywhere soon. But here's the thing. Cigarettes are legal, but after a while they got banned from public usage because NOONE WHO DOESNT SMOKE LIKES THAT IN THE AIR, ESPECIALLY AROUND THEIR KIDS. It was even in the parking lot when I left around 4:30ish and around the bathrooms/concessions as well. But again, I can walk away from that. You're gonna ruin it for the responsible ones. They have a good food court that's not to overpriced for a beach. They offer hot dogs hamburgers, water,soda, ice cream etc. its good. I give Robert Moses an A plus. I have been going to Robert Moses beach since I moved to Long Island and while it's certainly become more crowded, the feel of the place hasn't changed. It's truly relaxing and absolutely beautiful, this is what Long Island is all about, it's why I fell in love with living here. Where else can you carve out a little slice of paradise for $10? I usually go to field 5 but any of them are good, field 3 fills up quick, so it's best to arrive early or late, I believe it's free after 4:30pm and a lot of people come to see the sunsets which are magnificent! Several tips, note where you park because after a long day on the beach (especially if your drinking) finding your vehicle can be quite challenging. There is no WiFi and poor service (not that you should even be on your phone) but be prepared to download your music ahead of time. Pack light and travel lighter, it's a long walk from parking lot to beach, and if it's really crowded a longer walk to find a good spot. I recommend beach gear that has straps, those wagons and carts with big clown wheels are and look ridiculous. Definitely check out the lighthouse at field five, amazing walk and view from the top! It's such a beautiful place but so are all the beaches along fire island! read more

This place stinks. The crowd here used to be small and classier compared to Jones Beach now its almost the same. Larger crowds here now. Its not as serene as it used to be. The restrooms smelled like stinky feet and poop. I was nauseated and sick by the odor. Normally the restroom is clean and don't stink so bad. I wanted to vomit. read more

I am typing this review as I lay by the beach with ear pain because some water got in my ears (ouch). In comparison to Jones Beach, it is a significantly less walk and there is a clear pathway to and from the beach, which is a plus. However, the bathrooms are pretty nasty and it is missing the character that Jones Beach has with its boardwalk and history and all. The beach itself is not the best because the ocean floor is just a full bed of seashells, which is kind of dangerous if you slip and fall like me and end up with a bunch of bruises and scratches everywhere. In general, it's not bad but for a country with millions of COVID-19 cases at the moment it is just too crowded on a Saturday. Not to mention the half hour+ long traffic to get into the beach. Robert Moses has its upsides, but Jones Beach is less of a headache to get into despite the long walk to the shore. Remember to wear your mask the most you can, many are irresponsibly skipping that measure. read more

I. LOVE. THIS. BEACH. I've been going to this beach 3-4x a week this summer. On the weekends, we leave the house around 8-8:30 to get to Field 3 by 9AM before it gets filled up & they close it. I like Field 3 because you can get a spot fairly close to the bathrooms and I never find lines. They also have concessions and a beach shop. During the week, I go down after work to catch the sunset. There is usually still a life guard or two there that will leave by 7PM. Where the life guard is, there is still a good amount of people, but otherwise, it is SO peaceful. It's so easy to find a spot away from everyone and just enjoy the weather. There are also picnic areas - I know at least in Field 2 and 3. Not sure about the others. Field 2 is open 24/7 if you have a star gazing pass (we had it one season to use for watching the meteor showers. they only sell it for part of the year, so don't miss it!). I love walking along this beach. It's clean. No live bands or anything like Smith Point. I think because there are so many different fields to go to, it helps keep it from becoming insanely crowded, especially after hours. I went to Smith Point after 5PM and there was a band playing, lots of people & noise..hardly relaxing. I could really go on and on about Robert Moses. Seriously one of my favorite places on the Island! read more

I live in Brooklyn and travel out here about 10x in the summer. It is more of a residential crowd as opposed to people traveling from the city. The life guards are awesome. the bathrooms are clean. food stands close by. we have many people travel from BX, NJ and manhattan because they love the secluded laid back, no stress attitude that is out here on the island. What happens here, stays here. $10 per car load. just drive slow there are deer in the bushes if you leave after dusk. read more

Compared to Gunnison Beach, Robert Moses is way easier walking to the beach with the small road and boardwalk that lead you directly it. parking could be a pain, but eventually you will find one. Scenery around the lighthouse is nice and worth visiting as well. read more

This review is for the bathrooms & concession stand at Field 4- not the beach. I LOVE the beach...However...We parked at Field 4 this past Saturday & the women's bathroom was BEYOND ATROCIOUS!!! It looked & smelled like they had not been cleaned since last year- if that!!! Mounds of sand, filthy toilets, filthy sinks with many non-working soap dispensers. I literally gagged!!!! The very last stall had what looked like remnants of explosive diarrhea ON THE WALL!!!! Come on, people!!!! Get Hazmat in there & HOSE THE PLACE DOWN at the end of every weekend!!!! Seriously...If anyone who works for the EPA reads this...HELP!!!! The concession stand wasn't much better. The windows were grimy & greasy. The interior was bare bones & dirty-looking. Robert Moses Park, A beautiful spot. Suffolk County's Pristine Park. Robert Moses Park was one of the Very First Long Island Beaches I discovered 40 years ago.I would go 4-wheeling with my friend Mike when he had his old Subaru pick up, the one with the rumble seats in the back. Relaxing and wave watching, we would hang out on this big ol parachute that we used as beach blanket.It got interesting when the wind picked up. This beach and park facilities are similar in the architectural plan to Jones Beach ,but nowhere near as crowded. As the afternoon got thirsty out, we would all go to the OBI South bar. (Oak Beach Inn) was one of the most wonderful oceanfront b that I had ever frequented. They always had the best Halloween parties ever ! Now gone because of politics and poorly behaving patrons. After The OBI closed, the Robert Moses Beach was never the same & the party moved to Montauk. Now in my older age, there's a nice little golf course that's been reinvigorated Here. Thats probably more up to my speed now. It's a beautiful journey to Robert Moses Park. Just to relax, fish or take a walk. JIM D. read more

Food at concession stand was always pricey but quality of food got a lot worse. Hot dog bun looked old and fell apart. Asked for another same thing. French fries almost $10 skinny cold and not even tasty. They were much better years ago. Field 5 used to be a nice family beach now it's more younger crowd. People smoking pot out in the open. Glad I didn't buy the beach pass which keeps going up each year. Been coming here for many years but won't be returning much this summer. read more

From brooklyn the drive is long but I felt it was worth it. I read the reviews on yelp and they were pretty accurate. We usually go to point lookout but after several summers swimming with seaweed I thought I could use a change. What I liked: The ticket you pay for to get past the Jones beach toll can be used once u reach the parking lot for Robert Moses. I had no idea. This is good. The bathrooms were relatively clean at the middle of the day. Not at the end of the day but I expected that. Lots of different body types. You don't need to be a model to go in the water. Clean. No garbage in the sand. The water is semi clear. And a proper color. Not many things I didn't like. Just consider: You gotta get there early for a good spot. It can get crowded. Water was COOOLDD! Maybe this can change but I had to mention it. I found the sand to be full of broken shells. Not a deal breaker but ouch. Tried to look up beach info. Water testing, temp etc and it said they don't do water monitoring....what? But I took a risk and went anyway. Long walk to the water imo. read more

10 Reasons I Only Go to Robert Moses: Reason 1: I'm never afraid of what I will find floating around in the water. Reason 2: It feels like a beach: no buildings, no traffic, no honking horns, beautiful sand, clean water, real waves, and when you look out onto the ocean, all you see is, well, more ocean. Reason 3: The water is insane. If you go after a stormy week or if there's been a hurricane along the coast somewhere, the waves are better than riding a rollercoaster. Seriously. I've gotten my ass beat up a few times fighting those bad boys. Reason 4: No noisy, obnoxious, loud, confrontational, dirty, messy people who sit five feet away from you and decide to feed the birds. Reason 5: Field 2. Boogieboarding, boogieboarding, boogieboarding. Reason 6: There is a food court. They have beer. Reason 7: After you park your car, it's not a 10 mile hike to the ocean/sand. Reason 8: It's peaceful. There aren't blaring radios. You can actually hear the ocean and the birds and yourself think. Reason 9: Totally not a meat market where teenagers go to hook up. I've not gone back to Jones beach since discovering Robert Moses a few years ago. As Jeff O. states, it's another 30mins past Jones beach. It's a lot less crowded, though swimming isn't permitted everywhere. You can only swim where the Life guards are posted because surfers and boogie boarders are allowed here. The parking rates have increased to $10 this year. It's gone up about $2 a year. At this rate, I wish they'd upgrade their restrooms. A few tips for this beach: The sand gets real hot, bring flip flops and leave them upside down when sun bathing. Field 2 all the way to the right has a Pitch & Putt. There is no dress code at this pitch & putt. It's very casual but bring sunblock. There's also a small bathroom at the Pitch & Putt which usually has no lines. There are showers at the main restroom facilities. It's best to get there before 11 AM so you can get a good spot by the water. If bringing food, eat it quick or the seagulls will attack you. read more

Beautiful park! Terrible crew! Very bad customer service! I come to this park for the lady 28 years but over the last year things got vary bad. The park employees never allow you to use bathrooms especially near sunset as they rather clean up early and go home. Today was the second accident this season when both women bathrooms were closed and even saying that it was a "medical l emergency" did not help the crew to be compassionate enough to allow the public to use the bathroom before the subset as the public rightfully pays taxes to maintain the park and pay the crew's salaries. I was never a beach person before visiting Robert Moses Beach. After this visit, I have been brainstorming the feasibility of messing with the system: I wonder whether the $10 parking charge is taken before 9 a.m. If not, wouldn't it be economically smart to arrive at or around 845 a.m.? Also, the law seems to say that alcoholic beverages, except those sold by the licensed vendor, are prohibited as a nuisance, meaning that a peace officer may confiscate those beverages. I saw so many people consuming alcoholic beverages without getting bothered. Perhaps enforcement is lax, but even if one is caught mid-binge, the risk may be worth it to avoid paying $6 for a beverage that's $1 to $3 at the supermarket. This is not legal advice and is just me thinking aloud, obviously. The beach itself is relatively clean and quiet. There will always be those who try to ruin it, though. Smokers, loud stereo systems, flying toys, etc. Be wary of possible broken glass buried in the sand. Lesson learned - don't dig holes without tools. The food court is cash only but bring a cooler, grab some ice, perhaps some dry ice to last 10+ hours if you're there that long, and have some of your own food. Aside from the fact that the fried food they sell there seems like a one way ticket to heart disease, the area around the structure that sells the fried foods is also quite an attractive nuisance for aggressive sea gulls. read more

This is definitely the best easily accessible public in New York. The sand is clean (yeah, there are garbage cans every 30 feet), the water is good, the crowd isn't out of control, and the staff work hard to keep the facilities clean (the men's room was getting a good power-wash early Monday morning when we were there). The Park and beach make for an excellent and relaxing getaway at a very low cost ($10 for parking). There's even a picnic area, a volleyball area and play area for smaller children! Definitely worth a drive passed Jones Beach. I offer some tips: -Do come early and find the perfect spot to camp out. Do not stay late (or it will start to resemble a school trip to Jones Beach) -Do use the grills in the grilling area as long as you cover up with foil. Do not expect the grills to be clean. -Do bring snacks (and trash your trash). Do not feed the wildlife... especially the seagulls (or they will never ever leave you alone). -Do bring an extra towel to wash up in the shower before getting sand all over your car. Do not expect any shower curtains in the men's shower room. -Do come here to chill out and de-stress. Do not blast your music or the NYS Park Police could ask you to leave. read more

I think this is the best beach within a reasonable driving distance from NYC. It's clean - the water and the beach... It can get crowded but having gone 3there for years, it usually has a more family oriented crowd than elsewhere in the NY area - this is changing see below. Suggestions: 1. The showers are awful... really awful. If you are lucky the only thing you'll catch is a foot fungus. 2. The beach needs to increase the no lowlife scumbag rules. Born and raised on Long Island, so I've been going to the same beach, same field for 24 years now and this beach is as beautiful as ever and OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, WE SAW DOLPHINS!!!! This was my first time ever seeing dolphins and I'm so happy that I got to see them on my hometown beach. We were talking to the life guards and they said that dolphins were a good sign that the water was clean and this year, it really does seem magical- the water is warm and there is a sandbar that extends for about 100-150(?) feet from the shore, so the water isn't too deep. It's a beautiful shade of blue green and you can see straight to the bottom in 3 of 4 feet of water when it's calm and sunny. The jellyfish come in August, so enjoy the beach while you can. Unless you like swimming in salty, stingy tapioca pudding. The beach is pretty clean for the amount of people that go each week. The beach bar food is good (excellent coffee, if you can believe it) and the bathrooms are large and airy. The people are friendly and it's very family friendly- I only go to field 5 though, don't know how the others are. The life guards are friendly and have great legs. Must Know Tips: Go early! The erosion these past few years has been no joke, so the beach gets crowded, really fast. Stake your claim. Bring sun glasses, a hat and plenty of sunscreen! I'm talking about the erosion of the atmosphere now- it is also nothing to take lightly. The sun flares are insane and on a clear day, it's white hot and you'll be sorry if you don't take care. Hydrate! Listen to the lifeguards! Don't litter! Don't smoke! Have fun! read more

If have access to a car, skip the trips to all of the other Long Island beaches and head straight to Robert Moses beach. As you near the beach something happens, some kind of magic.... There's a beautiful bridge and massive stretch of ocean, air sweetened with salt and all of a sudden you feel as if you're on vacation in a desirable location. And you are! It's ironic that I went out my way to Robert Moses since I live closer to the shore. Paid $10 for tix which was okay (Jersey beaches cost $7 or $8). Nice beaches, clean sands, family & friends atmosphere, etc. However the trip was not worthy because of BUGs...geez I can't believe there are so many bugs and they BITE. And it HURT A LOT. I stayed from 9 am to 1 pm and was bothered by bugs the whole time. No I won't come back. I just can't take bugs. read more

I much much rather drive a little further out past Jones Beach to enjoy a cleaner less crowded beach. There's also chances of sighting deers! I've seen them on more than one occasion. Only downside is the traffic you encounter on the bridge but that can be avoided if you leave earlier. Certain fields, the sand can be rough for those with delicate feet. Long Island/the NYC region has its "issues," (and they're PLENTY) and for the most part, I'm happy to have "escaped" them (horrendous traffic, sky high prices/taxes, "somewhat" (loveably) obnoxious people, etc....) but I'd go back in a HEARTBEAT if I could spend every waking moment on this AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL stretch of unspoiled (read: no gaudy hotels, flashy attractions, etc...) slice of sandy heaven!! Robert Moses was a mad genius when it came to planning out this park and so many other sites in this region. Yes, it tends to get HORRIBLY crowded on hot, steamy weekends (though not as badly as its western cousin, Jones Beach), but if you go early (or late) enough and know where to set yourself up away from the crowds, all your cares and worries will float away with the gentles breeze that's always here, no matter how hot and sticky the rest of the island might be!! I'd personally recommend Parking Field 5, which includes an easy hike (watch for the deer!!) over to the light house, from where, after a (relatively) easy climb, you will be rewarded with a SPECTACULAR view that goes on FOREVER!! Decent facilities, (rest rooms, snack bars, picnic areas...) an $8.00 (or is it up to $10.00+ by now?) entry fee (get the Empire Pass if you live in the area) and a PRICELESS opportunity to escape the RAT RACE of everything that make life on the "Island" a challenge... read more

Happy, Happy memories of the college years. Much less crowded than Jones Beach and thus far calmer. Lots 2 &3 were more young adult friendly and to this day I am really pissed Costco didn't come along earlier in my life or I would have been out here making a fortune selling waters, teas and juices for $2 each while getting a tan. If you are really industrious in that you have nothing to lose at your blanket and I have the leg strength you can walk all the way to Fire Island. Beware the people that never should take their clothes off, do so on the walk between them. read more

Very nice beach on Long Island is a wonderful place to spend a day. It's very crowded especially at Field 5 which tends to fill up first. Field 2 is my favorite because you can take a long hike along the water to the Fire Island Inlet. It's quiet, secluded and often times we came here and had the whole place to ourselves. It's the most wonderful during low tides to hang out in the tidal pools. Now the harsh reality: traffic getting to and from is a nightmare. The bridge over the outer bay is only one lane coming and going so good luck getting across. There are also frequent car accidents at the rotary around the water tower so that's going to cause issues as well. read more

Incredible beach worth the trip from the Bronx. This is my favorite beach in NY. Its quiet, clean and does not get as crowded as Jones. The water is super cold but super clean. The crowd is mixed and everyone minds their business. It's not a meat market like Jones. The consession stand has lots to choose from. Just save yourself dough and pack a cooler with water and sandwiches. Parking is $10. This beach is for sun worshipers and people watching. read more

Great park!! Lots of beach to walk on and lots of boardwalks too. The lighthouse is open along with the gift shop. Since it's a State Park there is a fee during the summer season but free the rest of the year. I love taking walks here and the Bird watching is good too. During the fall the hawk watch tower is open with people there to name the birds flying through during the fall hawk migration. All in all a nice park. read more
