If you're just discovering the fact there are spectacular beaches in NY then congratulations, you're in for a treat here at Jones Beach! Field 6 is iconic. While the boardwalk is great for exploring, the real magic happens on the sand. Just laying down, watching the clouds, feeling the breeze and hearing the seagulls, time just slows down at the beach. Jones Beach is actually rather massive! So no matter what field you go to, you're in for a beautiful time. In my opinion, the best time to go is now in the second half of September. You get great weather, without it being scorchingly hot, much less crowds than peak summer, and of course, gorgeous sunsets. read more

This is probably my favorite field out of all of them at Jones Beach for a few reasons: -Shortest walk to the beach out of all of them -Least crowded (which is still crowded, but because this field isn't accessible via public transportation the way field 4 is it's not as packed) -Cheaper than Tobay if you're not a resident, which would be my pick if price were no object. There are bathrooms with showers situated right at the start of this beach, along with a concession stand selling staple beach eats like chicken fingers and fries, along with some alcoholic drinks and a higher than retail but still not insanely high prices. Folks are generally well behaved here, lifeguards are attentive and the beach is decently clean. If you're new to Jones Beach, this field is a good place to start and will make you feel pretty welcome. Get here early, especially if you're coming on the weekend, because this place fills up! read more

Tomorrow is the day I met my other half here at Field 6...40 years ago tomorrow! I have great memories here and was almost a daily visitor back in 1975 and 76. Met some great people here we became beach bum friends. One in particular was a woman named Margo she was a daily visitor from Kew Gardens she turned me on to peanut butter and honey sandwiches (LOL). She had worked with Pan Am in their Cargo Department. With her slavic style accent she would introduce her self as "Margo from cargo." She wore long black hair and always in some sort of black leather. Did anyone of you know her too? Anyway, I haven't been back since 1985 and still have great memories of Jones Beach and Filed 6. They were "the most wonderful summers of my life" yep, like the song. read more

Love Jones beach. Haven't been here in years, decided to take the drive on Saturday 6/29. In the past we used to go to the beach for two hours then the pool for two hours for a nice day trip (and to leave the sand at the beach). Arrived at field six. Some areas were closed off to swimming due to no lifeguard. It was a bit windy but we found a nice spot in the swimming zone. We built sand castles. The east bath house was closed so we drove to field 4 to go to the pool in the west bath house. The drawback was that they had gates around the pool, had not seen that before. Seemed limited compared to how it used to be. Despite that, we still had a good day. read more

Had a great time at field 6 today. We made it a point to go to the area if the parking lot where you are next to the bbq area. Seems like it was less crowded. We took a small spot about 845am and the parking lot was already filled to capacity. The tides was rather low but it was very windy as umbrellas kept getting blown off. I did walked to the bathhouse area to go get a beer ( blue moon $8) access to parking was $10 for the day. However, the choices for food were limited and hardly worth it. I was prepared with sandwiches, fruit and plenty of water but if i have a family i would like to have sone options. Bathrooms for ladies were reasonably clean, i can speak for the men's bathrooms they were stinking worst than the bathrooms at grand central. read more

Best "field" for families with small children or those with elderly companions. I've pondered over use and definition of the word field in context to a beach/parking lot/patch of National Park land, but that's just my useless aside. Anyway, this one has closest parking area to (Jone's) beach in the park with concession stand and bathrooms, overpriced and stinky in that order. Free parking/access during chillier months. Great for taking kids and said old folks for an off-season perambulation. Also good for solitary musing in the dead of winter overlooking the Atlantic from the comfort of your car. read more

This beach is simply amazing! Field 6 is near the BIG pool! Crazy part is that there is always a long line for the pool even though the ocean is on the other side. I was not able to enjoy the pool portion the last time I was here. The line was simply sooo long. But judging by all the people in line waiting in the heat, I'm guessing it's all worth it. The beach was quiet and relaxing. The water was a little dirty though. If you plan on going to the ocean, make sure to bring water shoes.

Nice beach and good for anybody. The beach is quiet because no radio and pet are allowed. On Saturday there are families and kids. This beach is not too far from New York City. It took me about hour and minutes to get there including a traffic. The beach looks clean even the color of water isn't blue like when you go to the beach in an island. read more

Sunday morning. 5:45am. 70 degrees. The beach already had people up and about along the shoreline to casually enjoy the sunrise and plenty to start a day of fishing. This is the best and really the only field to surf fish. Field 2 would have you fishing on a pier which I find less thrilling and with less elbow room. Field 6 parking allows you a short distance to walk from your car to a spot near the shoreline but this field lot gets full pretty early so it's best to come sooner then later. Other wise you'll be directed to park in Field 5 and have to lug your things a good walk to the water. If you're coming to surf fish try parking up more to the left since swimmers and the lifeguard are to the right. Be careful of the people with less common sense walking under your fishing lines and swimming closer than you'd be comfortable; but stand your ground with the life guard since you are technically where you're allowed to be.(More left of the lot). read more

Growing up with Jones Beach as your "home" beach you go through phases. Maybe as a kid you came to field 6. You loved walking down the boardwalk to the crowded area. Or sometimes you would go to field 5, and hang out in Zach's Bay. As a teen and through college, you realize that the crowded area is accessible via field 4. So once you start driving, you prefer field 4. Plus by the time you get to the beach, well the field 6 lot is full. Now you are married and perhaps with a kid on the way. Well all of a sudden field 6 is back in your life. Its quiet enough. Parking is closer to the actual beach. So no need to drag all the beach toys through that long tunnel. And you get there earlier because well the kid needs a nap around 2. I'm guessing I'll be at field 6 until my daughter begs me to park at field 4 because her friends are there. You have everything you need here. Towels, chairs, restrooms and showers. They've added this long carpeted walkway towards the beach. Its a nice touch. The sand is clean and well the water is there too. Plus Jones Beach is a state park so its usually cheaper to go here than a town's beach. read more

I love the feeling of hot sand between my toes and smell of the ocean breeze. I came here with K and a friend this weekend to check out Jones Beach. Our day started out early and harried. Our friend advised us to get here early to beat the crowds and get parking at Field 6. Otherwise, there is a long long walk to the beach. Thankfully, we got a parking spot around 10am. The parking was $10 per car and very close walk to the beach front. We parked, carried our stuff as close to the ocean as possible and set up our 2 umbrellas and 3 lounge chairs. After that, it was a relaxing day at the beach. The ocean was cold and the breeze was nice. I loved walking in the hot sand and letting the sand massage my feet. And walking by the ocean, and watching the waves break onto the shore. I collected some pretty bits of seashells, got some beach reading in and got to catch up with a friend. There are sections of the beach for swimmers (or dippers), boogie boarders, and fishermen and women. Some people brought sand hockey nets, Frisbees and kites. If you want to BBQ, you have to BBQ in a allotted area separated from the beach. I liked that this beach had showers, rest rooms and a taco food truck. There was also a place to get refreshments like coffee and water, if you left yours at home. I will definitely be back! read more

Field 6 is by far the best field at Jones Beach. Make sure you get there super early to get in, it's the first field to fill up. I always get there around 8:30am the latest and am able to get in. It's the field that has the bathrooms closest to the water. The other fields are some what of a hike. Also there is a convenient blue walkway from the boardwalk to a little before the water. Field 6 is a radio free/NO AMPLIFIED MUSIC zone. Why is this not always enforced. I've noticed more and more that people are not in compliance with this rule. People should be fined and or have their radios and speakers confiscated. I like to enjoy the waves and breezes, without anyone's Radio blasting and thumping. read more

I'm not too crazy about the beaches in NY but if I were to choose one, it would be Jones Beach field 6. I came to field 6 twice this summer and really enjoyed it. The parking lot is close to the beach unlike some of the other fields. The problem with the parking lot at field 6, it isn't as large as the other fields. If you arrive early, you're fine, but if you come around noon time, the parking lot is practically full. I noticed two things during my two visits. On my first visit, we went to beach that is right side of the life guard house/restroom. I found that side of the beach to be much cleaner, far less sea shells and pebbles. On our second visit, we went left of the restrooms, and on that side of the beach, the sand isn't as fine and clean as the other side. Parking is only $10 and you can use the same ticket to enter the other fields. You do not have to pay twice. Lastly, I just wanna point out the restroom. It's filthy!!! I know it's a beach and all but damn! When was this restroom ever cleaned? The showers were disgusting!! Entire restroom reeked of shit and piss. This is one of the worse restrooms I ever been to in my life! read more

Took a mental health day today and realized I have not written a review of one of my favorite places on the Island! Yes, Jay S. it can get crowded in the summer, and sorry about the bullies kicking sand in your face, but I call Field 6 home year-round. In winter, you can't park anywhere closer to the oceanfront unless you are four wheeling. 30 minutes of staring at the crashing waves and floating gulls mid- freeze from the warmth of your car is priceless. In Spring and Fall, long tranquil moments combing the shore revive the senses and provide an inner peace. Summer mornings or late afternoon into evening sunsets are the best way to avoid the sun and crowds. Field 6 gives access to the Jones Beach Boardwalk, and now it is open year round to bicycles! Getting in a quick round trip 4 miles is awesome, but parking at Cedar Creek and doing a 24 mile loop on the Ellen Ferrant Memorial Bikeway to Tobay and back with rest stops at 6 is even better. 6 also allows kite flying, and the delightfully colored variety flying here is eye candy. 24 years ago, I watched four stunt kites perform aerial ballet and I was hooked. My heart races with excitement and anticipation as I spool out my dual lines, then a quick tug and my 8 foot delta soars or rips through the sky (depending on wind strength). Hours lost , headphones in, spinning, flipping, and skimming the sand and water, gently landing and launching over and over to the delight of kids and I am sure the annoyance of many adults. read more

The lifeguards at this beach are Pretentious assholes who couldnt handle hard work if it slapped them in the face god forbid we can swim 4ft out without them blowing their whistle and calling us back and the beach is dirty as anything maybe if the lifeguard spend more time cleaning up their work area and actually following their tasks as life guards instead of fixing their hair maybe it would a pleasant place to be rather than feeling misery read more

I passed a few fields to get to Field 6, thinking it would be less crowded further in. FAIL! Very crowded on a late Sunday afternoon made me think it must've been unbearable earlier in the day. Apparently the Field 6 parking lot is closer to the beach than others so it's very popular with families and lazy people. Personally, I go to the beach to chill -- not to constantly shield my face and belongings from unrulies running wild and kicking up sand. This is the beach i always go to. For me personally i'd truthfully like to arrive before 9:30 am and hang out on the beach until about 1:30 pm or 2:00 pm. The beach is quiet at that time, there are less people and it's the hottest point of the day in which you can go. The amenities are bathrooms, umbrella and chair rentals, a concession stand for food and drinks, and a washing station to rinse off sand before you hop your cars. The sand is very fine and pretty clean with the odd bit of shell you might step on. The beach is cleaned very well. At $10 for parking, you can load as many people as you can in a car and go to the beach with your group of friends. Food and drink is acceptable on the beach, but no alcohol and no loud music. You can play your music but keep it low so you aren't interrupting or annoying other people at the beach. read more

1) Oh dear God- bring a cooler with cold drinks and some sandwiches from home OR Subway OR the supermarket pre-made sandwich section OR your local deli OR your local bagel shop OR anywhere ................ but HERE! Concession stand here is BEYOND A RIP-OFF ! Like off the charts rip-off ... and they KNOW it. And they get away with it. When I walk by ands see families of 5 , all eating hot dogs , hamburgers, fries , ice cream, sodas, etc. (aka a "full 3 course beach meal") I get upset when I imagine what it probably cost them! You could probably take your family to a nice steakhouse for what they charge for this garbage! (So upsetting because I'm "thrifty" as you all know!) 2) Get to Field 6 BEFORE 9 AM weekdays and 8 AM weekends and you will get a spot. (Weird that when they built this beach -- they should have made Field 6 MUCH bigger --but whatever). 3) If you get here before 6 AM -- As i recall from the past - you can enter for FREE and park ANYWHERE ! No one is on guard yet. ( Now- don't quote me on this - they may have changed the rules in recent years - OK ?) and last but NOT least ...................... 4) In late August this beach gets ATTACKED by SAVAGE BEACH FLIES THAT RIVAL THE KILLER BEES FROM AFRICA. I mean like seriously horrible. You will pay to go in and get all set up and then start getting stung....and stung and stung by these hellish creatures.....and the associates at the pay window WILL SAY NOTHING to you about this BEFORE YOU PAY ! PLEASE call before you go and try to find out if it's KILLER BEACH FLY WEEK ! The life you save may be you're own! P.S. The bathroom scene here is disgusting. Avoid it if you can......... read more

Not bad at all. I haven't been here for about ten years. We stayed towards the right side of field 6. Less people. The sand is quite clean with a few straws and clam shells sticking out of the sand. This is a convenient location because the restrooms and food area are within a comfortable walking distance from the ocean. read more

When you park your car, you are closer to the actual beach at Field 6 than at any other field. Definitely a plus, especially if you have kids or a big cooler in tow. However...everybody in LI and the surrounding NY area knows that! So you better come here early (and no, 10AM isn't "early" in this case) or late (after 3PM or so) if you want to get in. The waves are pretty strong here, and the water has lots of seaweed in it. And then there's all the sand that gets on your skin and into your swimwear. So if any of that bothers you, Field 6 is not for you. Well, the beach is not for you, in general, if you are going to be bothered by that. But if you have kids, just keep a good eye on them when they are by the water, because the water isn't very clear. This field is FAR less crowded than Field 4, though; as a parent, this is the first field I try for when I go to Jones Beach. read more

Jones Beach is a source of many great memories for me, my family, and my friends. Definitely the cleanest beach in the immediate area (besides perhaps Robert Moses) and the smoothest sand. Field 6 is the best field at Jones Beach, which is apparent with how quickly the closest lots fill up. Don't worry, Field 4 also provides access! Get there relatively early and grab a nice spot by the water. The boardwalk also has a small outpost of Smorgasburg there, serving up fries, alcoholic slushies, juice, and tacos. Always fun, cannot go wrong. You can bbq grill in field 6 and enjoy the open view of the beach. Not bad for a little NY backyard sorta getaway. Mosquitoes and bugs killed me here as well. Bathroom amenities are better at Robert Moses. But the main clincher and problem for me is that after 4 PM I saw a lot of individuals with booze and one with a radio playing music I did not care for. While I am not a Puritan, these issues should be enforced. The beer is tasty but we all know it can cause problems in the wrong hands. read more

Great beach, parking is close to the sand/water. Restrooms recently remodeled, with several family rooms. Only disappointment was lifeguards went off duty at 7pm and we still had at least another HR of sunlight. read more

Since 2014 I have been frequenting Jones Beach. The water is clean and the current is strong , just the way I like it . I normally stay at 4 since food is nearby but I am about to venture into the other sections . I'll let yelpers know very soon how the other sections are. read more
