This is actually my first time visiting a beach in ny it was such a refreshing experience I couldn't have picked a better day the weather was perfectly breezy, making it ideal for a peaceful walk along the shoreWhat really stood out to me was how calm and uncrowded it felt. Coming from LA, where beaches are almost always packed this was such a nice change of scenery. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy to just slow down and enjoy my walk .I also loved seeing so many people biking along the boardwalk it definitely inspired me to bring my bike next time it was a simple but memorable experience, and I'm already looking forward to going back. read more

It's a great beach go get to if you rely on public transportation. There is a train station and bus station just a few blocks from. The beach. There are a few places on the boardwalk that you can get a bite to eat, but you have more options on the main road, or down in the West End. During the summer if you don't get there by 10am if you're driving, good luck finding a parking spot. During the summer you do have to either pay to get on the beach, unless you have a beach pass for the season. read more

Can get there by LIRR to Long Beach stop. We've only driven there. There's a toll plaza via the NY-878/Nassau Expressway/Atlantic Beach Bridge, a drawbridge. Or via Long Beach Blvd. which is around the middle of the island to/from the Oceanside area. Or via Loop Parkway which is more to/from eastern direction. By New York Ave, there's a ramp to the well-maintained boardwalk, with access ramps to the beach. Outdoor showers by the beach ramps. Clean restrooms. Snack place nearby. Please check their website for updated info. For this year, Beach passes are needed to get on the beach at specified times, $15/day for non-residents. We've gone at 5pm when it isn't too hot and passes no longer required. Not crowded the times we've gone. The sand/beach is very clean. Lifeguards only til 6pm. They were strict with the flags; will call your attention with their whistles if you swim outside the designated area. read more

I haven't been here in years!!! I was surprised seeing the new apartment complexes built up. I parked at the lots with no issues and my girlfriend and I walked around to the boardwalk. Great spot for walking around at. I found it interesting that the view of the waters/sea from the benches on the boardwalk is covered up now with new planted brushery. I like that there's a foundation built below the ditch now, definitely to help protect the new apartments. I really like the lifeguard spots to chill on here, although the sand hills used to be a lot taller. This is our new go-to. Leave early enough from Westchester, and you can be here in 25 min. The beach is clean, the water is clear, and the staff is decent. The designated swimming area is incredibly narrow. Why is that? Make sure to pack a lunch. I'm not sure if there is a concession stand on the boardwalk. We had to walk all the way to W. Park Ave to grab food and drinks (over half a mile from the beach). Overall excellent beach - just come prepared! read more

This is actually my favorite beach to visit in Long Island. It is clean, not crowded and there is actually a boardwalk too. It is a relatively empty boardwalk but a boardwalk nonetheless. Besides, the main street of the city of Long Beach is right there with plenty of restaurants, stores and bars to go to. Best of all, it is easily accessible with public transportation. I used to live in Woodside Queens and the LIRR stop from there to here only took 40 minutes. Once you get off the train, the beach is a short walk south. For people in Manhattan, you can take the LIRR from Penn Station, which is one stop before Woodside. read more

Fall Season has got me feeling nostalgic for those Good Ole Summer Days-lol. I cannot help it, I am a Summer Baby (It Is Always Cancer Season In My Head) and I am in love with the Summer Season. Beaches are one of my favorite places to visit and if I could be there every day I would-lol. Having visited Long Beach several times in Long Island, I can speak of its beauty. Experiencing Peace, Tranquility, Sun + Fun at a beach that is clean w/ lovely views is fantastic and Long Beach definitely has all of that and more. Everytime we know that we are planning go to Long Beach, we purchase tickets to get onto the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) at 34th Street Penn Station in Manhattan, NY. The Long Beach LIRR Ticket can be a combination ticket if you request this kind from the LIRR Ticket Booth Teller. Combination Ticket = LIRR Train Ticket + "Long Beach" Beach Pass to gain beach entry. Beach Admission Tickets are $15 if f one just wants to buy a ticket at the actual beach. One hour after arriving at the Long Beach Train Station in Long Island and a short several minute walk later, one shows their Beach Pass to the Beach Attendant and then....Time to hang out + enjoy the day! Beach Comfort is a Beach Chair/Beach Umberella Rental Company that takes care of this needs for patrons (if you decide to get these things) while chilling out at Long Beach. While being at Long Beach for my last birthday we rented beach chairs and found them to be comfy enough basking in the sunlight. Beach Comfort staff bring the chairs/umbrellas to you and set everything up for you. Staff alao come to you one hour before lifeguards kevae their posts at 6pm to retrieve all of the rented chairs/umbrellas back from patrons at the end of the beach day. Long Beach is along the Atlantic Ocean. Long Beach goes for miles and miles, has plenty of areas for individuals to lay out, play games, build sandcastles, enjoy your food + beverages, etc. The Boardwalk has a couple of eateries, bike riding /walking space, etc. The beach water is cold -lol and the tides come at you in full force-lol...Surfers are as far as the eye can see. In the evening after the lifeguards leave on Tuesdays, we have been able to view local Volleyballs Teams set up nets along Long Beach to watch them play Volleyball Games. Spectators bring out their blankets, chairs, etc. to watch Volleyball being played as one views the backdrop of the Gorgeous Sunset. Blue Skies are spectacular but Sunset views are absolutely the best! I look forward to coming back to Long Beach for Summers to come. Out of some of the South Shore beaches on Long Island, Long Beach is a top favorite of mine. Even when I was young and my kid was 4, nothing would stop me as she and I would take a bus to the train, get off at Penn St. then connect it to the LIRR to make that long 2 hour journey from The Bronx to Long Island. Compared to Jones Beach- which has a mixed-bag of folks and really not my crowd, hubs and I love Long Beach because it's calm. I don't know how far Long Beach stretches. But I do know the free 2+ mile boardwalk each way offers views of the Atlantic with blue waters and crashing waves. Be ready with $15 for a day pass as a Non-resident if you want to go past the entrance and head to the sand area. There are a couple of restaurants and an ice cream shop on the boardwalk. When hubs and I come here, we do a double and lay out on the beach then get some walking done to get the ocean serenity with a bit of exercise thrown in. read more

Love this beach, which has almost everything you need. Daily pases for non residents are $15 each, with season pass and bulk purchase discounts for residents and non residents. There's a well kept 2.2 mile boardwalk that was rebuilt in 2013 after Hurricane Sandy. Bathrooms and dining establishments are available along the board walk. I was born in Long Beach, California and it was so awesome to be able to visit Long Beach, New York since moving to Pennsylvania two years ago! We've visited Maryland and Delaware beaches but hands down, this beach is on top of my list of favorite beaches. It's clean and beautifully kept. Parking is free and day passes are reasonable. We were just there 7-10-22 and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. My kids enjoyed the sun and the waves and drive! Such beautiful views on our drive back home, even though we did not want to leave hahaha. We'll be back!! read more

Close by Rockaway is better and free. Long Beach is expensive, has a narrow swim area on each beach, they have nerdy kids patrolling the sand giving out huge summons for alcohol and or Glass bottles. It can get crowded and there are not enough public bathrooms. read more

You should visit this beach on Long Island--it's incredibly clean, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day. The boardwalk stretches on for miles, offering scenic walks and plenty of space. When I had to run back to my car after a couple of hours, they graciously let me back in without charging again, showing their excellent customer service. While the bathroom is a bit far with only four stalls, this minor inconvenience is easily outweighed by the beach's overall appeal. I'm not a fan of NY beaches but have this one a o. While the beach is fairly clean, we did experience a bit of racism which would definitely deter me from returning. We went on a hot day on a Saturday with 2 couples and kids and paid for day passes. While we are Nassau County residents, we are not residents of Long Beach. Apparently we missed the signs that indicated there was no alcohol allowed and given the fact that a number of other visitors had open bottles while relaxing on the beach, we had no knowledge it was not allowed. We were approached by 1 officer and another gentleman who apparently worked with the officer or as beach security. The officer was nice and asked about the can of beer that was on the towel we had. We spoke about the kind of beer it was, as I was unaware it was prohibited. He then took our IDs and came back with a ticket. We watched as they went to other guests of the beach with open bottles/cans of alcohol, have a chat but then walk away. The other guests did not look like us. That left a really bad taste in my mouth and I doubt I will return to this beach. At least the kids enjoyed themselves. read more

There really nothing bad i can say about long beach. Long beach long island is surreal and every time i drive out to long beach i feel like I'm in a scene out of laguna beach lol. Long beach is a real beautiful family oriented neighborhood in long island and has the best beach hands down. I use to come to long beach every year, but haven't been here since sandy. I still see house be reconstructed from the damage of sandy, but the boardwalk is done and they have a awesome pizza shop that was rebut on the boardwalk that serves drinks and food. This place is a great new edition to long beach and something that wasn't here when i was coming years ago, but glad it is now Long beach charges $15 dollars to get on the beach, which is great because it keeps all the bums off the beach and keeps nothing, but working class people on the beach. I don't have time for nonsense and trashy people, so this is why i also loved long beach. The board walk is beautiful and great place to come with your family and kids to enjoy a beautiful summer day. Lets get into the waves at long beach. The waves are incredible and you find a lot of kids surfing at long beach. Also the water doesn't have a lot of rock and shells that cut of your feet like other beaches. Sometimes you come across crabs and and jelly fish, but for the most part the water is great. As for drinking on long beach, open containers is a no no. They have beach guard who issue tickets for open containers on the beach, so make sure alcohol is in cups. Long beach makes a killing off of issuing tickets, they must a rebuilt the beach 10x the way they slay people with $50 dollar open can tickets. You are allowed to buy drinks from off the board walk and drink on the beach, just no open bottle or cNs on the beach, which makes no sense. If you love and enjoy the beach forget about jones beach, Rockaway beach, Robert Moses, coney island, orchard beach. Long beach is where its at don't waste your time anywhere else. read more

The "City by the Sea" was sold by the Rockaway Indians to the English colonists in 1643. Situated in Nassau County, over the border from NYC, this beach town is really beautiful. In the movie "The Godfather", the Corleones supposedly owned a compound in Long Beach. If you want to come here during the summer and you're not a resident, you need to purchase a pass: they have season passes ($100) or $15 for the day. There are a number of restaurants and bars located in the area & there's also a beautiful hotel located on the boardwalk. Most non-New Yorkers probably won't know about this place, but they should. The beach and the boardwalk are beautiful in the summer and the shoulder seasons. I really like it! read more

I know people love this beach but as someone who digs Fire Island and Ft. Tilden or even the Rockaways (Jacob Riis Park), this is, frankly, a rules driven beach that doesn't have the turquoise waters of Fire Island for people to rave about. The sand is nice, however. I didn't like that I had to pay to get in and the lifeguards poilce you if you're even 5 feet outside the bounds of the red flags. Speaking of police, they are more active here than any other beach I've been at, so if that's of concern to you for whatever reason, then I would not come here. Swimming was meh. Rockaways or Ft. Tilden are better for waves...much better. Seems like you can find more laid back beaches. read more

Long Beach, your beach is so beautiful and easy to get to from Manhattan and the boardwalk isn't trashy and you can actually good, affordable food (try sherry blossom poke and lido deli knishes), and the sunsets are gorgeous but WTF is with your rules?!? Why aren't dogs ever allowed on the promenade or beach no matter the hour or day? Why must you carry your beach pass with you at all times anytime you leave the sand even when the workers have seen your face and know you live there? Why are there so many ornery older residents complaining about the slightest things and causing even more rules and regulations to be set? This is an oddly strict and curmudgeonly beach where, maybe, people forgot that the best part of summer is being CAREFREE. read more

Out of all the other beaches in Long Island, Long Beach is one of the easier to get to from the city. The LIRR railroad station is only a few blocks walking distance to the beach. The beach boardwalk doesn't have much "to do" besides get some fried food and drinks, as apposed to some other beaches I've been too. As for the beach itself, there is a beach fee of $15 per person. You can get a beach pass ticket using the LIRR if you're coming from Penn Station. Even though price is a bit high, the beach still draws a good crowd of people. Only once do I remember it being packed. They do have a chair & umbrella rental service, but the last few times I've inquired, they have been sold out. The water here can be kind of crazy, so the lifeguards don't let you swim deeper than some other beaches; and tend to keep you in a swimming zone using flags. Overall, I do enjoy coming to this beach to chill, it's clean and people are respectful here and that's what you get when you have beach fees, which I approve of paying for (just maybe at least $5 less). read more

Fee is not terrible but seems a bit high. you can get a discount if you choose the railroad pass that includes the beach this coming from Penn. Clean beach, the water can be pretty rough every visit has been limited to a specific swimming area because of rough waters which can be annoying but safety should always come first. For an area that u have to pay to use the bathrooms could use a bit more attention, not very clean .. good showers outside to use. Overall a good beach to try during the summer. read more

Take a stroll, and stop in the little unique restaurants and shops. the center of town is only a 10-minute walk from the boardwalk. We must recognize Long Beach's Citizens and the thousands of workers from around the world that joined together as one giant force to turn back the tides of destruction from Hurricane Sandy. Now just a few years later, completely recovered "Ocean Beach" is opened and revitalized for the world to enjoy. Ocean Beach. The boardwalk Promenade is beautiful and full of activity. I love all the unusual bicycles that Long Beach has to offer many of them are custom-built hybrids. I've seen unicycles Bicycle Built for Two and tandem side by side bikes. a bike with a basket in the front for the doggies. Everyone seems to put a little of their own personality into their bikes here. Entrance to the beach is $15 from Memorial Day to Labor Day. After Labor Day the beach is still warm and the admission is FREE. Be very careful do not drink in open containers on the beach. The police auxiliary here wear light blue polo shirts with black pants. They kind of look like security guards. Their low-key unambiguous presence helps to comfortably keep the peace here. I have observed them doing a very good job as they keep watch. Recently, my wife and I enjoyed the Labor Day holiday here. Activities included sunbathing and enjoying all the shopping and restaurants that community had to offer. We had a wonderful time and intend on returning more often. It was interesting that the price point here at Ocean Beach was much lower than other day trips that we might have considered. Street parking was FREE and close by. We ate at Five Guys burgers for about $15 bucks each. The beach was a $30 admission charge for 2. I spent about $40 bucks in the Stop & Shop down the block on drinks and snacks for the cooler. Wow..! Only $100 for the both of us! We had a GREAT Holiday! Highly RECOMMENDED and 5 stars. We'll be back again next week. read more

Beautiful beach at a high cost. The entrance fee is $15 for non-Long Island beach residents. Beware of the security guards who write up tickets for alcohol possession. It was not clear or stated that alcohol is prohibited on the beach - it is written on the back of the day pass card. We were charged $100 per person for having glass beer bottles on the beach. No warning whatsoever. And the security guard had told us she was being nice for not charging an additional $150 for having our drinks in glass bottles. They ticketed several groups within a few feet around us so it seems to be a relentless common activity. Many groups and locals came up to apologize and sympathize with us. In the water, the swim groups are localized into a small area between marked flags. Even when the swimming area got very crowded, they were constantly yelling at us to stay within the small swimming area. The beach was clean. This beach has been bookmarked forever to check out and one hot and hazy day i decided to give up the funds to check it out. I've heard and read so many good things about the beach. I work at night so i came right after work and arrived around 10am. I found free street parking conveniently one block away from the beach. I walked in and paid my $15 and kept my receipt and pass in case I was asked by police on the beach. I saw security and police throughout my visit walking and driving around looking at beach visitors. I heard them tell two young ladies they couldn't have glass bottles of something they were drinking. I also saw them escort a young teenager off the beach, I'm guessing he didn't have a pass. That was the extent of the action. The beach was clean and quiet. There was no loud music, no smells of weed and my $15 admission was truly worth it. The water felt amazing that day. It wasn't blue and pristine like the Caribbean but it was nicer than Brooklyn and Queens beaches that i frequently visit. The waves were good and not too wild we're you felt unsafe to go in further. Unfortunately the beach did get more crowded than I liked. It seemed like everyone was a lot closer to each other when I woke up from my peaceful nap, lol. I was unprepared by not having my own lunch so I purchased lunch from the restaurant on the pier and it was surprisingly good. I had the grill chicken sandwich and fries and enjoyed every bite. On my way back to my beach spot I was asked to see my beach pass and happily obliged.
