This is a private area so be aware before you go. I didn't know, as this is part of the National gateway park so it's still a bit confusing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway_National_Recreation_Area Most of the area is owned by the breezy point cooperative. As you approach you will see a gatehouse where those going to the cooperative must check in, and those going through pass on the left. I had no indication that it was private at this point. I drive on to the fisherman's entrance, I canister this is 222nd street, and parked. I had a lovely walk, going all the way to the point and back. Later, as I was checking out an old military tower, I was approached by a resident. He seemed nice enough but I quickly realised that he was trying to determine whether I belonged there. He mentioned more than once that the entire area was private and that the only way people can get access is by knowing someone who lives there. Later I read reviews that you are allowed to go to the park if you first get a free day pass from the ranger station at riis park, or hike from Fort Tilden. So know before you go!

I love it out here and great for fishing. Sort of a magical slice of quiet in the City. Takes some trekking to get out to the tip!

It's a shorter walk if you take the trails from Fort Tilden and might seem endless if you walk along the shore.

It's been about 20 years since I've last been to this Pool. Back in Middle School during the…read moreSummer, my class would come here at least twice a Summer and it's always been a blast. Now as an almost middle aged adult in an attempt to weather through almost triple digit weather, Astoria Pool hasn't lost its charm. As good as the trip was, it isn't perfect. Since it was a hot day there was a rather long queue that I had to wait through, which fortunately wasn't as long as I thought it would be. There are a couple of rules and regulations which do make enough sense to follow. No electronics in the pool area, you must have a lock for your locker and shower before and after being in the pool, a towel is recommended. The one drawback would be the locker rooms. I dunno how the women's one looks like since I'm a man but the men's locker leaves a lot to be desired. I know it's a public use facility but it could be more taken care of so it would look less like a Gulag from Call of Duty: Warzone, plus the lockers are pretty small, I was amazed to fit all of my stuff in there. Other than that, it's a nice way to kill some time on a hot day. Be mindful of their schedule though because an hour break is utilized from 3 to 4 PM.

I came on a Sunday morning for the 11:00am- 2:45pm shift. The line to get in the pool was very long…read morebut it moved very quickly and we only waited about 15 minutes to get inside. The locker room is huge and has plenty of lockers, showers and dressing stalls to change into. The pool is Olympic size and gargantuan with an amazing view of the bridge. The best part is the way it's divided. There's a section with lanes for swimmers who want to do laps. A tanning section, away from the pool where you can lay out towels and tan or read a book. Areas designated for food consumption as they do have a food stand that sells burgers, hot dogs etc. all at reasonable prices from $6-$14. A playground right next door with sprinklers and jungle gym. And if you don't want to get into the water but enjoy the view there's a terrace outside of the pool that owns you to see over the pool and bridge.

First part was just huge rocks which hey that can't be helped I get it. We walked down the other way which was okay. It was also sort of dirty I mean maybe off season okay I get it. Just the beach park in Oyster bay off season doesn't look like this. Since this is like our only beach/bay whatever I'll let things slide. I'm still annoyed just at the fact we barely get any beaches but that's a whole other issue (with the county whatever lol) Like Mineola is just the no beach for you! Except this one. Obviously yes we can go to literally any beach if you wanna pay non resident fees or go to actual real beaches Jones, long beach, robert moses etc. I'll just stop my ranting and it's not this beaches fault lol. I gave another star because I liked the poop bags everywhere available. Have to come back with our pup :P They also have great events here though it's been years I still have fond memories.

NOT SERVICE DOG FRIENDLY. I brought my service dog to the beach and the staff was EXTREMELY RUDE…read more A female drove up on a cart stating service dogs were NOT allowed. Then asking her if she was SURE considering he is a service dog, she said "well where is his tag showing service dog" so I said "it's right on his vest that he's wearing... but that's not required to be there just so you know" then she proceeded to say "well you can get that anywhere, where are his papers" and I said "WE DO NOT NEED PAPERS HE IS A SERVICE DOG". This whole interaction was extremely disgusting for her behavior. The fact that I was treated as if I was lying and then asked for papers which is illegal and NOT required to have as of New York State was crazy. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

May 2021 ** Update **…read moreNow Open on Sunny Days The pool is very clean and warm. My kids loved going in and didn't want to come out. PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU PLAN ON COMING HERE !!!…read more I planned on coming here with two friends and my mother , at the start everything was great sure yes. The DISGUSTING thing about this pool are the LIFEGUARDS. A ton of these "LIFEGUARDS" are terrible staff. I had such a terrible encounter with some. My friend was swimming and these two LIFEGUARDS made fun of her infront of her. They body shamed her calling her a disgusting name. These lifeguards hold absolutely no respect whatsoever for the people in the pool. Worst part is they have terrible patience and lack great attitude. Don't clock into work expecting no work, you decided to work as a lifeguard so now you suck up and WORK. These lifeguards were NOT short staffed at all, they all have their table in the front of the stairs. They didn't open the kiddie pool at all even though very clearly there were a ton of kids. Worst part is that they're SMOKING. How are you a lifeguard and SMOKING? Especially infront of kids and others. ALSO!!!!! If you come here expect a man to tell you to move to another part of the pool because NOW they give classes. Isn't that ridiculous? Instructing and giving swimming classes in a pool where everyone is paying to be in? I said out loud that I paid to be here. They could also do a much better job in cleaning the walls of the pool. If you truly think that the lifeguards will not affect your trip here, oh they will. I read the reviews thinking it would be nothing but surely they were right. They need much better staff here , better hiring. I've been here before in 2021 and 2019 with no problems and remember they used to be much busier. Now it's a little bit more emptier than it seems. This could be a great place if it wasn't for the lifeguards. Do better. One lifeguards names I caught was Chelsea and she was one of the lifeguards laughing at my friend and making fun of her. The lifeguards that bothered my friend will be shown below. The dude is literally smoking in the picture. Worst part is the vape is yellow, same color as their whistles. Coincidence? But man, the lifeguards are tremendous here . The manager must have a blind eye towards them since nowadays people just want money . Bad experiences give out bad reputations. One thing to mention is: the prices It's 25$ for entry and 10$ for the chair. 40$ for cabana. Just for those who needed to know.
