How much fun can you have at the beach without actually seeing the ocean. Well, at the NIckerson cabanas the answer is unlimited. My first (and hopefully not my last) time here at my friends invitation. Very easy to get to off the Loop Parkway and parking was free after 5:30. From my home in Mineola, it was less than a 30 minute drive. This is a great spot to sit back, relax and take in the beauty of the day. The park has basketball courts, a pool and a store for food supplies. This is definitely a relaxing place to bring your kids for the day. I totally understand families who rent the cabanas for the summer. So many people and kids all having a great time. The beach is not a far walk but I opted out of the water for the day. We came there on July 3rd to relax and watch the fireworks show from Town. My friends cabana is perfectly situated so we could sit back and easily watch the show. Very clean here... This is my first Saturday this year lying on my beach: Nickerson Beach. I've been coming here for years, even during the heyday of Covid. The roaring, sleep- inducing waves, the hot sand, the swooping, singing birds, the cacophony of beach goers' voices all make for a perfect day. If I had a magic wand, I would have shuttle carts, if you will, that carry ,hourly , beach goers to and from the parking lot. The trek from the parking lot to the water can be brutal if ur carrying all your gear and wearing flip flops. Another reason why, once I'm settled into my spot, I don't move. The bathrooms, and concession stands are way off to the left of the beach. The summer is almost done so I'll be making at least one more visit to my beach before Labor Day. read more

I was hearing that for non-resident , parking fee here is like $40 which I find it ridiculously expensive. So I was very happy when I was able to get ticket for a drive in movie being held and thought finally can visit the beach for free. Darn ! They signaled us to exit on the opposite side . Never got the chance to stroll on the beach after the matinee show. We could come around if we wanted to return but my hubby just lost interest. The drive in series sponsored by Tribeca films which was held in the huge parking lot Is well organized. It exceeded our expectations. Wished we found time to browse the beach and it's facilities. Nickerson Beach located in Lido Beach is an artiste's paradise during the week. My visit was early spring 2019 and except for that lone figure walking the sand it was God and I. It's just great for anyone wanting some solitude. It's the beach so it was extremely windy but coupled with the noon day spring sun it was very much a bit of heaven on Earth. I won't recommend the sea here for swimming, it looked nothing like a sea should. Maybe try fishing? Ion. I can see families having a fun time here when the beach opens up though. Picnics, beach games........ I noticed two full basketball courts with four baskets so get your game on if the beach isn't your thing. You'd have to drive by Nickerson Campground to get to the beach parking lot then after a (boarded) walk.....**sweet sighs** you're there. The End. read more

ILLEGALLY CLOSED!! In 2022 The Dover Group and Butch Yamali were granted concession rights to run certain auspices of Nickerson Beach. Unfortunately they took it upon themselves in the Winter of 2022 to illegally lock the gates to all outdoor facilities this "Nassau County" park. The beach and boardwalks at Nickerson are still very much accessible if you park at either the Point Lookout or Lido Beach TOH parking lots. One of the nicer beaches in the area. Clean, nice sand, and about half a mile long. Not cheap - Daily: $14 for Leisure Pass holders and $35 for non-Leisure Pass holders. There's also a fun zone/skate park for the kids and is adjacent to the parking lot. It's a bit of a hike from the parking lot but not a huge complaint unless you have to lug a ton of stuff and don't have much help. read more

My family won the LOTTERY! Well the Cabana lottery that is! (lol.) They have been entering the lotto every year for years, to hopefully be chosen for the sacred three year summer Cabana's at Nickerson Beach. Well, 2016 was their year! I have never been much of a beach person because the sun just kills me after no more than 30 minutes. Having a Cabana? Like a tiny cabin to retreat in, have some drinks, BBQ, chill? Ummmm yes please. I am there! Nickerson opened Memorial Day weekend and you know we were there moving in. My mom is pretty creative so she seriously turned the Cabana into an apartment! Pictures, shelves, fridge, micro, toaster, coffee pot...she hooked it up! Need a band-aid mom has it at the Cabana. Any seasoning you want for your steak? Come to our court! I have been lucky enough to spend most weekends relaxing at the Cabana, swimming in the ocean, learning how to light a BBQ, and enjoying what we truly are blessed with the beaches of LI. It is great meeting new people and seeing them every week, getting to know their kids, grilling, talking and truly just soaking up the fun and sun. They have "movie nights" for the kids on Sunday nights, but I heard it is really buggy down there. There is a golf course and tennis courts for the sport-sy types. Playgrounds for the kids, concession stand, an in ground pool and baby pool. Large parking area, but on super busy occasions, (Memorial Day, July 4th) can get tough. Always parking though just a bit more of a hike. The beach is a bit of a walk but by the time you are shorefront, it is all worth it. It is just a happy environment all and all. Really don't want summer to end this year! read more

Visit Date: July 27, 2014 I came here with hubby and brother-in-law. They visited the tennis courts for a game of tennis and I walked my lazy ass over to the beach part so I can sit on my but like a beached whale, get some color and read a book. This beach is really expensive to get into but it's also really nice. Brother in law got a leisure pass so he can pay the discounted rate for tennis games with hubby. They have everything at Nickerson beach. They have some campgrounds so people can stay by the beach with tents and RVs. They have two pools for swimming, tennis courts, picnic tables, cabanas and a beach. One day I might rent a cabana if we are ever really rich although there's not much to them except some storage, and a little private lounging spot. The beach is pretty nice, I think because it's expensive it's a little more exclusive so the beach isn't overly crowded. If you can pay to get in this beach is worth it because of the many amenities it has besides a beach. read more

This is a beautiful Nassau county beach. A huge, long walk to the beach with small children but gorgeous nonetheless. On your walk to the beach watch out because there are designated wildlife nesting areas for birds. These birds like to swoop down when they feel you are walking too close to their young and it can mimic a scene out of the Hitchcock film, you've been warned! I'm starting to think that the birds have more rights than the humans on this beach. The cabanas- 4K a summer if you hit the lottery. It's a great amenity when you have young children. Just being able to store all of the beach chairs and toys and take a shower is great with little ones. Level set yourself before you go though, this isn't the cabana you saw on Beverly Hills 90210! This is no frills so just check that thought at the door. One issue with the new cabanas is that they have been known to back up with sewage due to people flushing who knows what down the community toilet. Not a pretty sight or smell. Nice crowd from the south shore local communities and it's like a ghost town on weekdays. Which is great because it feels like a cabana all to yourself. The pool- so glad they hired Skudin swim as a private provider of lifeguards and swim lessons for kids this year. Especially because pools like wantagh pool have suspended the free swim lessons program (a complete disappointment but I digress). The pool is a public pool and could use a facelift given the peeling paint at the bottom but this is what you get with a county facility. The snack bar- basics only. I will never understand why this hasn't expanded to be some kind of nice restaurant? Imagine with me something comparable to a Buoy bar in point lookout or clubhouse in bellmore? Cabana members and beachgoers would absolutely patronize and spend money. It needs a complete facelift and with a little tlc could be so much better. I took off two stars for the sewage backup alone. It stunk. But the beach is beautiful. read more

Ok beach to come to in Lido Beach. The actual beach itself is very big and quite a hike from the parking lot. The sand is extra soft as well so it's nice to lay out. The ocean here is murkier here than eastern Long Island and the surf is often rough so it's not ideal for swimming. Here's the bad part. Even if you're a resident, you have to pay $10 for parking. Non resident is $30!!!! Rip off! Come late in the afternoon like I do just to sit and relax by the ocean. read more

A great alternative to the beaches of Long Beach and just a few miles away and closer to loop parkway. While there is a fee for parking, there is parking- a consistent headache when the search is on (and it's always on) in Long Beach. The parking fee also covers your beach admission- so depending on how many people you have it will be less than the $10 a head in Long beach. Cost- Daily: $8 for Leisure Pass holders and $30 for non-Leisure Pass holders. A leisure pass is $80 for the season. The biggest drawback to Nickerson in my opinion is the lack of options or post beach partying. Theres the bars and restaurants of Point Lookout by they arent fit to carry long beach's flip flops, but the experience is far more serene than beaching it up in LB, which is more of a party beach, IMO. If you're coming in from NYC on the LIRR, a cab from the LIRR station towards their should be $5.50 a person. read more

Very clean beach. Did get a little crowded though since the lifeguards continue to crunch people into one area. Totally understandable though. The sand felt incredible as one would expect. There are some playgrounds there too which is great if your little ones get bored of sand castles. The parking lot is huge and it was about $40 to park and enter the beach. read more

Part of the town of North Hempstead so if you have a leisure pass you pay the discounted rate. I wouldn't come here if you do not have a leisure pass. Its pretty expensive with a large group of friends and family. The beach area itself is very nice. There is a snack stand. They have a pool, a basketball court and a skate park. Also a jungle gym for kids. You can rent these cabanas which contain picnic tables, chairs, and I think a grill....or maybe you have to bring your own grill. There is a long walk from this area to the actual beach. Its not a big deal if you packed light. My GF and I are lushes so we had several bottles of wine and beer in a cooler (it had wheels) which was a pain in the ass to carry that long way. Ahem you are not supposed to have alcohol on the beach. Lesson learned drink beforehand. The beach itself is nice. Water was a bit rough with a moderate amount of rocks and seaweed. There is a lifeguard on duty and you have to swim near where they are. Overall its a nice beach to go with the family. Very kid friendly. The fact that it isnt crowded should make this place a prime choice for a relaxing day. The pool near the entrance is a huge plus. Also those rental cabanas are great for large families. I personally don't have kids and I like to drink on the beach so I probably will not go back. read more

Yes, this beach is beautiful, very clean and wide open. There is no overcrowding so you are able to spread out. (Beware, no kite flying allowed on the HUGE expanse of beach. Go figure.) Paying $30 to drive in (unless you have 5-6 adults in your car - It was only me & my two kids) to the property is a bit excessive. You would expect a good food stand, proper showers indoors - not 2 misting sprayers acting as showers out in the open, and even free usage of the pools ($10 adult $6 kids). Having a neat new playground and skate park still doesn't justify the cost for a beach going family. No to the concession stand. It is AWFUL! Though not expensive, during the week, they only serve gross greasy pizza sqaures, hot dogs, and chicken fingers with COLD fries. It's disgusting. If you live in the county, it's all cheaper. If not, go on up to Robert Moses. They have better comforts for much less ($10) for sure. read more

This was my first time here and it was SUPER NICE. Parking was a little expensive, $30/vehicle. The parking lot was huge so plenty of places to park. Before you make the long trek to the beach, there was a very clean bathroom, concession stand with snacks, and a park/play area. The long walk to get to the part of the beach where you're remotely close to water was a bit exhausting while lugging tons of beachy things, nonetheless, it was worth it. There were designated lifeguard areas to swim in the ocean. There were also trash cans along the beach. Growing up near the Jersey shore, I've been to a ton of beaches and this one really is incredible! I highly recommend!! read more

I drove 50 miles here with my bf . We went to Tilton first and didn't quite like the beach. Tilton has lots of topless women enjoy the sun bathing, but the beach is not clean. Then we switched here. The sand is so fine and only has local people which is nice. And the beach here is super clean. Water is warm. Don't feel chill at all. Walked all the way to the end of the beach. read more

They only have a pool and hook ups. No store no kerosene. Beach is a very long walk. Never got any instructions or rules. Staff was very friendly and helpful except for my last night. Friday evening the 11th of August 2015. The woman on call that night came walking over to my site and said exactly " I work here you have to move your car only one car allowed" and walked away. Well there were only about 15 campers there and about 90 sites. My brother picked up my 86 year old mother who can't walk and brought her to me to say goodbye. He showed the lady the handicap sticker and all the empty sites around me. First she said ok move it I front of my car. Then she said no I can't have it. One car per site move it. So mom and my brother had to leave. Well not happy about this camp site to begin with. But ok it had hook ups and was convenient for us. But no never again. She was a witch who had no empathy for anyone. She wasn't nice she didn't care if we ever came back. So we won't. And no refunds or changes once you pay. I guess as empty as they were they can be very independent. But then again government jobs. No one gets fired no one gives a shit. By Mr. Mangano thanks but no thanks. read more
