Mila teaches out of a super cute studio, she is so kind and patient and actually expresses a genuine interest in your learning. I really like that she has an educational university level background in Piano and Music and doesn't just teach you piano songs back to back. (Like the teachers I had growing up). She delves into music theory, history, composition, form, sight reading, ear training etc. it really makes the learning effective and long term. She continuously updates her curriculums to new techniques and keeps up with modern pieces. She even offers educational music group classes for toddlers while also ranging to adult students. I initially came to Arthur Murray because I was getting married, and I wanted to have a killer…read morewedding dance. I'm vaguely familiar with ballroom and can certainly say I've watched plenty of YouTube videos. I'm definitely glad I came here because I realized a few things. 1) As I tried to put together my routine, I realized I knew only a few basic moves, so everything became repetitive and boring. 2) I don't know how to teach my husband how to lead. That's an argument waiting to happen. 3) Really cool lifts and moves have a certain way to do them properly so they can be performed safely. (Don't want to fall/be dropped or pull a muscle.). I had an awesome wedding dance (to the whole song). Lots of compliments! After the wedding was over, I had a lot of fun and came back as a student. The hubby didn't join, so I got to explore dancing on my own with fellow students and teachers. Once you have a program going, you actually get a lot included! They have a TON of group classes of all different styles and every Friday is a dance practice party. They have several themed nights, so if you want to dress up, this is your opportunity. The teachers are so awesome and supportive! I did a solo performance, and all the teachers flock up to you after and congratulate you! Really gets you excited to perform again! If you have a competitive bone in your body, you have plenty of opportunities to showcase and perform at larger ballroom competition events, some local (Bellevue), others international like Cabo and Italy! What's also cool is Arthur Murray is an international franchise. I have a cousin in Ontario, Canada, so while he takes classes there, we can meet up at one of the Arthur Murray international events and see each other at competition! I love this group! It's definitely an investment, but it makes me happy, scratches my competitive and performing spirit, and helps with my posture! I love my Arthur Murray family!

I liked the jumping part of class, but was a little heavier than some of the other students so tended to be a bit snubbed by some of my classmates as the skinny girls formed a clique and would push themselves to the front of the class during movement practice. The space (classroom) fit the nature of the classes and could get a bit camped depending on enrollment and attendance. We did get to wear a leotard and tutu, which was what I found the most fun. A couple of years later I started competing for a local swim team and found the swimsuits we wore were the same cut as the leotards we wore in ballet. I thought that was cool, what I wore for ballet extended beyond the classroom and prepared me in some form for the attire of swimming.

They do not make an adult wear a leotard, nor do they have you perform in a recital. (you'd be surprised at thow many places with adult classes do require these things.) Helen is the owner and she teaches the tuesday class. She does an amazing job at tailoring the class to which students are there. Many dancers are advanced but beginners are always welcome. The beauty is that classes focus more on technique than super challenging advanced steps, making it so you always get a killer workout. Thursday classes are good too, but you definitetly have to know your ballet lingo and be in a mindset to focus. Overall, love this place!
