After falling in love with this iconic space while recording with my band in 2008, I completed the…read moreaudio engineering and producing apprenticeship at Robert Lang Studios in 2012-13, and it's still one of the best decisions I've ever made. What sets it apart is that it's genuinely hands-on. You're in a working studio, on real sessions, learning signal flow and mic placement and gain staging by doing it rather than reading about it, although I did spend quite a few hours cozied up with the SSL manual. You get to work with amazing consoles, outboard rack gear, and vintage microphones, while learning DAWs, tracking, overdubbing, mixing, the whole chain. By the end you've actually run sessions, not just watched them. Bobby is a character in the best sense, generous with his time, and a true supporter ever since our band landed on his doorstep almost 20 years ago. I went on to spend twelve years in pro audio product management, and the foundation I got here shaped all of it. If you want to learn how records actually get made, this is the place.
