Sesame Street Music Studio - My piano teacher, Miss Chris!

Sesame Street Music Studio

(2 reviews)

I am delighted that I found the Sesame Street Music Studio about three months ago…read more Once I connected with the owner, Christine Kastanopolous, I knew she was the perfect piano teacher for me. I am going to go all the way out and say that I think she is the perfect piano teacher for anyone young or old, novice or expert. Chris' education and teaching background is beyond impressive. Trained at the prestigious Boston Conservatory, holds educational degrees and national certifications, has decades of experience teaching music and music theory. Yup, she is amazing. For me though, while her credentials elevate her to "heads above" others that I researched, it is only a part of what's important. I take hour long, one on one, private lessons each week at Chris' beautiful studio in Silverdale. Chris seems to truly be in her element when teaching. She consistantly allows me to be serious and steady, yet to go at a pace comfortable for me (while gently nudging me foward) and encouraging me to laugh along the way. It's magical. Although I am an older adult, and complete beginner, Chris has been providing me with piano education and lessons in a way that matches my level and has already proven to me that it is super cool to learn to read music and play piano. I highly recommend that if you are in the Kitsap County area, and want to start, brush up, or get your piano playing groove back, check out Sesame Street Music Studio. I bet you too will find Chis to be warm, knowledgeable, professional, skilled, and a whole lot of fun. I am a total novice at everything to do with music (except dance) but am getting better and better each day. Thank you, Chris!

We met for the initial meeting. My 6 year old was being an energetic six year old. The thing that…read morereally got me upset was the teacher grabbing her forcefully by the arm pulling my 6 year old up to her face to yell at her. We immediately left. This really bothered us that in the initial meeting she would put her hands on my child and yell at her. I absolutely do not recommend this teacher for kids.

quite a drive for me living just south of Olympia, but well worth it, next time will give myself…read moremore time to enjoy the area & this amazing music shop. found Crossroads had the Martin in stock I was looking for thru the Martin website, had tried a big box music store near Seattle but pretty much ignored so walking into Crossroads & immediately greeted & attended to by Sara, one of the owners of the "mom & pop" musical instrument shop was very pleasant. The Martin Jr in stock was hanging with the other guitars was ready to play & she set me up to try it out. They had a good selection Martin accessories including a good assortment of guitar strings including the Martin brand so I also bought a spare set of the Martin LifeSpan Phosphor Bronze Light strings. I was short on time so did not get a chance to fully take in the ambience & experience of Dan & Sara's music store, but reading up on Crossroads before hand on their website & stepping into their store, I felt the warm embrace of some good vibes, and appreciate their community involvement in local music events in this very charming waterfront town. I like contributing to local businesses so I not only walked away with a very nice Martin acoustic electric guitar, it felt rewarding to give back. I hope to explore more of the Washington peninsula & look forward taking more time visiting Port Townsend & Crossroads Music.

Great selection! They had many more Ukes than your average Guitar Center and many higher end models…read moreincluding KK and Martin that can be hard to find even in Seattle and Bellevue. The owners were friendly and helpful and encouraged trying out different ideals. (I loved the wonderful KK baritone) and gave useful and helpful tips on restringing. My kind of music store - they are passionate about their stuff and it shows.

South Sound Sound - Ribbon (Left) and Condenser (Right), two different type microphones to blend sound

He has a beautiful and welcoming studio attached to his house wherein jazz musicians, punk and metal bands, as well as all kinds of folk and rock musicians have recorded. He runs a very relaxed and open studio, but he is a very professional guy and when you tell him it's time to get down to business he is more than ready to work. I have know Jason for about three years now and our recording relationship has lasted just as long. After recording at both Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, Wa and Arcade Studios in Tumwater, Wa I settled down at Jason's studio. Jason created a much more welcoming experience. At the other studios I felt thrust into a musical competition but at South Sound Sound I am treated as a friend. The music is first and foremost for Jason and it shows with both his interest and willingness to improvise and create. I am not an easy musician to please. I often play every instrument in a song, randomly jumping from what ever instrument I get the impulse to play. Jason has a strong understanding of Microphone placement and use and responds to my random bursts of inspiration with ease. Usually, I leave the mixing and mastering process entirely to Jason. I trust his ability to create a sound I like and if I don't like something he quickly alters it to the best of his abilities. He often adds ideas, clips, etc to enhance a song and has a strong understanding musical direction. Jason is more than an engineer at a studio for me, he is a friend and I appreciate every time I return to his studio. Visit Jason's homepage for a variety of clips of the genre's of music he has recorded; or, if you please, visit my band Insomnia Cafe's page - insomniacafe.bandcamp.com - all of the songs on this page have been recorded, mixed and mastered at South Sound Sound.
