Somehow they got my last review deleted. So I guess I'll…read moretype up another one. I emailed Joe, the owner of Orbit Audio. I requested 4 weeks in advance to have a spot booked up. I messaged back and forth with the audio engineer he assigned. As a side note, I flew from San Francisco, CA to Seattle, WA to record with them. 3 days before hand, they told me I was still good to go for the session. With about 16 hours before my session they cancelled on me telling me they had booked someone else and couldn't take me in. As a musician of 25+ years, they treated me like a 'second rate' musician. So let me tell you this. If you're an indie artist, DO NOT go here. They cancelled on me just to get a couple more hours of time booked. A little bit of extra money in their pockets. They didn't take into account that I had spent the previous 4 weeks non-stop preparing for the session, just to cancel on me with less than 24 hours notice. These are audio engineers, not artists or musicians. They simply do not care about anything other than the money in their pockets. When I was told I was cancelled, they tried to get me to go to another location at one of their audio engineers house. Please tell me how if I'm looking at paying anywhere between $500-$1,000 for a day of recording and mastering that I would want to go to someones house to record. They will rush you and attempt to take advantage of you. Stay away from here. P.s. If you don't believe me, here's a screenshot from the owner apologizing forgetting to book me. It's by far been the best thing I've done for my musical journey, ever. The progress in my playing I've made from participating in ensembles is truly amazing. It just works because you're thrown in the real deal right away (at a level that's good for you but still challenging.) By "the real deal" I mean playing music with people, working on challenging but approachable songs, & getting real time feedback from fellow musicians as well as pros (the teacher for one's ensemble.) Jazz Night School gave me the confidence to begin building community and playing with groups outside of classes too. Now I play with a few groups around town & have a lot of gigging experience. Even though I have met enough people to keep me pretty busy outside of JNS I still continue to take classes because they constantly push me to be a better player & I learn so much each session. Looking back at each session when it's done is always stunning because I feel like I've come so far since the beginning even though it was only 10 weeks. On a last sidenote, it's a fantastic deal especially for drummers like me because you have free access to studio time (drum sets provided by the school.) The cost of renting a studio in Seattle almost pays for the class cost if you take advantage of free studio time too. All that being said, I couldn't recommend this fantastic non-profit organization & welcoming community of serious musicians enough!

I'm a middle aged music "hobbyist" that takes seriously improving my craft. I've been coming to JNS on and off over the last 5 years or so. I'm passionate about learning music and becoming a better musician, and I also work full time, so going to Cornish or Berklee or some other full time program is just not realistic. Also, I come from a rock background, and don't really know a lot about jazz (at least, I didn't when I started), but music is music and there are a lot of commonalties and fundamentals that cross styles. The courses and workshops have helped me take my playing to whole new levels in both rock and jazz idioms. First, major kudos to Erik Hansen - the visionary behind the school. He was educated at Berklee, *really* knows his stuff, and is wildly passionate about music and teaching. His enthusiasm is contagious. And he takes a genuine interest in the growth and success of the students. He's done an extraordinary amount of work to make JNS worthwhile for students. I've taken a number of classes with Erik and I've learned a lot in each one. Second, the other teaching staff are also passionate about teaching and learning, and helping each student improve. I've taken theory and performance courses, and the teachers would help me take the learning as deep as I wanted or was able to go. All have been remarkably supportive. Third, from time to time there are one-day workshops presented by talented musicians. Notably, saxophonist Anton Schwartz and trumpeter Jared Hall are regulars. Thought I play guitar, without exception I've come away from each workshop I've attended with some ideas that have made a real difference to my playing or how I think about and approach music. I like that I can pick and choose how much coursework I can integrate into my schedule and I'm not beholden to some N-year program or schedule. The cost for classes and workshops is reasonable, and the value is high. I feel fortunate that I discovered JNS, and I enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who is serious about improving their musicianship.

Back in 2015 I booked a full day session with Garrett, the lead engineer at electrokitty to mix and…read moremaster a single track of mine that was featured on a radio show. I was on a deadline and asked if he could finish the production within that same day, since the song was already 90% complete and only needed some analog mixing and mastering. Like myself, Garrett was trained in classical music. He is very talented and has a good ear for adjusting levels, which was the primary problem I needed to fix. The only issue I had was that he was not very welcoming or willing to work with me. I ended up paying him $500 for the 6.5 hours full day studio session, which was supposed to be 8 hours of work...but he took an hour and a half to go eat Thai food. When the day was over, I called him that night and asked if he was willing to put in a bit more time to adjust some of the tracks, since they didn't turn out how I had requested. He texted me back saying "dude it's night time, call me tomorrow." I have never had a sound engineer who had this sort of an attitude towards business, and I have worked with people who have grammies by the way. Every time I texted him and asked if he could fix something, he told me "okay but it will cost you another hour." After asking him numerous times, he was willing to adjust some of the levels, which ran me another $200 extra. All in all, $700 to record 6 measures of backup vocals and to mix and master a song that was already 90% complete was sort of ridiculous. I just feel like he was in it for the money, and had really no interest in producing a quality song. I definitely would not recommend this studio.

Yes I know there's also a Sspul Asylum album called that, I didn't know that at the time of release, wan a fight about it? What, Ever! Anyway, my name is Matty O' by the way, the three songs that owner/founder Gary Reynolds and I produced there were, She Forgot, The Cure For Fear, and the only song of mine that got chosen to make money for anything, my Christmas song, Yuletide Lament. Yes you heard that right, thanks to this very studio, and whatever natural talents I may have, and thanks to a site called songtradr.com my Christmas song I made in this studio was chosen for a YouTube/Radio promotion, and I will be receiving my first payment for it's usage in that, this November 15'th!!! Woo hoo!!! Thanks so much Gary, and also his friend Erik who played drums!!! (I'm wicked sorry I've forgotten his last name) Also, not only that, but if the guitar tone on that song sounds huge, it's only because of Mr. Reynold's production of it, since it was actually only a small Orange tube practice amp, which was basically a better version of the Fender Champ, so that in itself is also an Electrokitty accomplishment. Also, my best vocals on my album were definitely on the song The Cure For Fear, and I must make sure to point out, that none of the vocals on my whole record used or required any pitch correction software of any kind. The only effect on the vocals on the entire record was a little reverb, and I'm really proud of that, especially our results on that particular song, which is my sweet Momma's favorite on the album, and she knows what from good about singing, having just reached 72 and still being the best voice in her church choir! Also he has a really sweet Fender Telecaster which was the only guitar on She Forgot, and it played very well, even for having 10's on it, which I usually don't play. I stick to 9's because they help my hands last longer at shows. So yeah, if you're in the Seattle area, or anywhere, and you want to sound better than anybody, go to this studio!!!
