Mrs. Debbie, the owner, recently took time out of her busy schedule right before classes started to help my daughter get fitted for new ballet shoes. That level of personal attention and care says so much about the studio and the people who run it. My daughter loves her classes so much that she actually begged me to enroll her in an additional class! She looks forward to dance every week and has loved all of her teachers. Special shoutout to Miss Olivia, who has been wonderful and has helped make dance such a positive experience for her. We just finished another recital season, and every year I am blown away by the enthusiasm, dedication, and passion of the instructors. Watching the recital, it's easy to see how much work goes into preparing the dancers while still making the experience fun and encouraging. And honestly, anyone who has ever tried to teach a group of 4- and 5-year-olds anything can appreciate how impressive it is to see those young dancers smiling, having fun, and confidently performing on stage! The instructor was friendly and provided a great warm-up. There were two stands with beautiful red silks. I enjoyed the height of the room and the welcoming atmosphere. It was also refreshing to see some teens in the class and how quickly they learned and progressed. The facility was overall clean, and parking was easy with a convenient lot.

I liked the jumping part of class, but was a little heavier than some of the other students so tended to be a bit snubbed by some of my classmates as the skinny girls formed a clique and would push themselves to the front of the class during movement practice. The space (classroom) fit the nature of the classes and could get a bit camped depending on enrollment and attendance. We did get to wear a leotard and tutu, which was what I found the most fun. A couple of years later I started competing for a local swim team and found the swimsuits we wore were the same cut as the leotards we wore in ballet. I thought that was cool, what I wore for ballet extended beyond the classroom and prepared me in some form for the attire of swimming.

The beauty is that classes focus more on technique than super challenging advanced steps, making it so you always get a killer workout. Many students danced with masks and other precautions in the studio, while classes were also available virtually for families that preferred that. The virtual students joined classes at the end of the year and were able to take part in an outdoor recital, it was a wonderful show. The most important piece for me was finding a studio that offered something beyond beginner tap and a studio that is certified by Dance Master of America-RSDS fit that criteria. The studio rooms are quite spacious and have viewing windows so others can view from the outside throughout the year without being distracting. There is plenty of parking outside and there is an office area where you can pay your tuition or purchase items in their dancer shop. My class was great. Many of my classmates had been dancing together for years and welcomed me with open arms. My instructor was Beth, the owner, she is a wonderful teacher and is really focused on helping dancers with their technique. This studio is a positive space that encourages dancers to learn and grow. I was fortunate to watch the recital (and also participate) and I was blown away by the talent of the dancers and choreographers.

They provide a free trial class when you are unsure if the class is going to workout for your child. The school offers ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, musical theater and adult classes too. Their registration fee is minimal per family and class rates are competitive too. They welcome families every six weeks into the classroom for observation which is a great way to ask questions and connect with your child's teacher. Although, they do not have large observation windows, instructors often keep doors open (if it's not too loud in the waiting area) or are also open to have visitors upon request when families are concern about their child's class. Their website, quarterly newsletters and Facebook page keeps us informed with pertinent details about the studio and upcoming events. If your child loves to perform, this studio is the place to be as they give ample opportunities for your young dancer to perform in the community in their school's companies. One of the factors that I appreciate most at this school is that they seem to keep their faculty constant. Unlike other studios I have experienced in the past, turnovers were high and the staff seemed young and lack on teaching experience. Their faculty genuinely care about their students as individuals. The teachers are well versed in their craft and are educated both with higher education degrees and industry experience in national and international companies. If you have a budding dancer, Washington School of Dance starts as young as 18 months through adults.

There were too many young girls in one class so the atmosphere was chaotic. We decided to take her out prior to the group beginning to learn a new routine for the next recital. Overall, she only attended twice. 2 months later, I began receiving threatening invoices demanding payment for the 2 months prior. I called and said I wouldn't be paying. I was told that even though they knew I dropped and even filled the spot that my daughter left, that since I didn't come in and fill out a drop card, but instead notified them over the phone that she was dropping, that they could and would keep charging me. I was outraged.... eventually, they sent me to collections, ruined my credit, and I ended up paying over $400 for 2 dance classes.... all because the person on the phone didn't tell me I needed to come in and drop the classes in person. Their business is located in an industrial garage. It's not comfortable or nice. There is really nothing positive that I can say about it.
