Professor Wines led a well-structured and informative session for our running club focused on common running-related injuries, along with demonstrations of evidence-based exercises designed to reduce the risk of injury and reinjury. Luis and Yvanne assisted by guiding participants through the exercises and ensuring correct form. Their patience and individual attention helped each of us understand how to perform the exercises effectively and target the areas most relevant to our own strengthening needs. Despite having been under the care of a physical therapist for two running injuries since 2020, I found the seminar highly educational and gained new insights that were both relevant and immediately applicable. Professor Wines demonstrated a deep and nuanced understanding of running biomechanics and injury prevention, and he communicated this information in a clear and accessible manner. For those aspiring to become Physical Therapy Assistants, I can confidently say that Professor Wines has a high level of expertise in running related injuries and an ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively.

I went there [the Northgate branch in Seattle, WA] in 2017/2018, i.e. pre-covid and online…read morelearning. And everything was hands-on. We had three teachers in total, one for each semester, and about 4 giant books that we needed a backpack to carry to school everyday, we were asked. Classes were 4 hrs a day and stacked with assignments, lectures, and practical/lab work. I remember really enjoying Instructor Maya Harer and the Rastafarian Mathematics guy. But in our second semester, a lady called Betty came in. She was not a bad teacher, although her politics was questionable at best [delighted in telling us how a woman who sued for her right to abort a damaged fetus died from a horrible car accident. "Karma," she quipped, "is a bitch"]. Still, it was her extra carricular activity that makes one wonder if she should be allowed to teach, let alone grade. We had a classmate, lovely gay kid from somewhere south. He referred to black people as "our colored neighbours" and believed everything he heard on Fox news, which his boyfriend was really into. So one time, while we were discussing the use or perfumes and body lotions in a clinic setting, where patients with asthma and allergies to smells come, he complained how he was chastised for telling an Indian co-worker that he smells. He continued by talking about how he doesnt think Indians take a shower due to a cultural thing and how the food they eat stinks etc. At which point I raised a hand and objected, saying one Indian co-worker can hardly represent a country of almost a billion people, and that we should try not to judge people by our limited experience. Betty was mad at my objection. She thought, from what I later inderstood, that I was picking on a naive gay kid. So had me called to her office and told me she has been told that I was spreading some rumor about a classmate at lunch. I was so terrified at the accusation that I started crying, demanded that she brings the accuser to me and have them tell me what I said to my face, and asked..begged her to atleast tell me what the rumor was. Refusing to even look me in the eye, she said never to mind but to watch what I say in classroom and outside. "We are here to build one another, not to tear each other down". It took about 4 months of consisent hard work and proving myself in word and deed for her to like me, treat me as one of her students, and even praise me in the hearing of other teachers as an examplary studenr. It is fortunate that I was told I would forefit my pay when I asked if I would be allowed to drop out at that point because I truly love the career I got from it and wont trade my first American school life for nothing. But it was the most painful experience I had while it lasted. Knowing someone I spent 4 hrs a day with, someone who can fail me at will and bring my hard work to naugjt, had it in for me. To be disliked and discriminated againt on behalf of a cause I was in solidarity with. The other thing I remember is some drama between two of the female teachers. The husband of one was enrolled in an MA course, and wasnt doing great. So the other instructor failed him one of the courses. When people asked him what happened, he used to tell them all the problem this teacher was having in her own marriage, etc, which I thought was a very weak..immature response. There was also a male instructor, Gene, that I really liked taking some courses from. Funny guy. Heard he got fired for something or other years later. Still, great place. I would advise you to go for it 100%.

My commencement was the week before my the commencement for my high school diploma from Shorewood High School, I was 17 years of age at both. It was cool to be able to earn credits for both high school and college as part of the Washington State Running Start program. While attending Shoreline Community College, I split my extracurricular activities - taking part in clubs here and sports through the high school. The student body was diverse, which I enjoyed. I still remember a particular group I was part of in a history/political science class where I was 16 years of age, another person was 24 years of age, and a third person was 40+ years of age with a 20 year old son... The 40+ year old even said they had a hard time taking me seriously because I was so young. I appreciated honesty and transparency like this from the students. My classes were across the board above average from my perspective and I can say there was not a bad experience in my two years here. When classes were close together temporally and spaced physically apart, I found I had to walk fast to make it to my next class on time. Parking was easy to find if I came early enough in the morning, otherwise it could be a bit of a wait. The bookstore was a magical place to me, where I could get textbooks, snacks, and other school supplies. Happy to have attended, and graduated from, Shoreline Community College.

After a loooonnnggg educational hiatus, my dad sat me down about a year and a half ago and said, "I…read moredon't care what you do, but you need to pick a major, and finish it." I chose something Business related because the company I work for would foot the bill for part of it, and, having been a nursing major, and an art history major my first round of college, after doing a few pre-requisite classes at a community college I was back in the University game. Coincidently, as it turned out, I am great at Business, and have settled into my majors very naturally. CWU-Lynnwood offers a great alternative to the expensive cost of the only other local public university (You know, the one with the icky purple and gold colors) Here, for a fraction of the price, I get a quality education from great faculty, and all the support services of the full university in Ellensburg. CWU-Lynnwood has a computer lab and library services, as well as an on-site writing lab for students. In addition to all the services offered by the University, students can partake and participate in any services or events offered by Edmonds Community College as well (since the school is located in it's own building on the Edmonds CC campus) Students can purchase textbooks and even collegiate clothing in the Edmonds CC bookstore. While the majors available for study are some what limited, they do offer some great choices for students. I am currently finishing a double-major in Accounting and Business Administration, while also completing a minor in Economics and a certification program in Supply Chain Management. All that for less than what I'd have paid at the alternative schools available to me. Seems like a savvy business decision to me, so my education is already paying off! And I have no doubt that this combination of education will provide me with a more than adequate future salary in the business world. Other available majors include teaching certification, IT and Law & Justice. CWU-Lynnwood also offers one graduate program, for Accounting majors, which meets the requirements for the fifth year of credits that is required to sit for the CPA exam. The school has clubs and programs in place to help generate a sense of community on campus, and loyalty to the school, with a student leadership program that plans fun events for students on a regular basis. For Accounting majors the student accounting society puts on annual networking socials for students to meet with firms in the area, and the school has staff in place to help students find internships to help them further their education, and professional goals. I could not be happier with my choice of CWU Lynnwood to finish my degrees. I feel my professors care for me, my education, and my professional development, and are more than adequately preparing me for grad school (which I'll start in Fall of 2012) And I've made some wonderful friends in my courses and a few just hanging out in the student lounge area studying. AND the cherry on top: you get a free Snohomish County bus system pass just for being a student. What a deal!

I started my undergrad degree here in January 2007 and will be graduating in June 2008 (I take 15…read morecredits/quarter). Being that I am majoring in Accounting and I work full time, it is really helpful that CWU offers a lot of night classes so I can complete my degree close to home. The tuition is affordable and one can take out student loans if need be. I've only had a couple of instructors that I didn't particulary care for, but overall I think the faculty is excellent. For the location, price and quality of education, I have to give this place 5 starts. Let's face it: Getting into UW's business school is extremely competitive and even if you do, they do not offer night classes. Seattle University has a great reputation, but not good enough to spend 30k a year on tuition, etc.

Even after graduating, most of the professors still remember their students and are willing to meet up or advise students via emails about further careers. Please carefully select your school before enrolling. I also experienced course registration issues. I was so frustrated! Yet, I'm sure that would also happen with any schools, especially when many of the office employers are actually students who are also trying to learn. We all experience different situations and we grow from these stories in our lives. I attended a summer conference event at SU. Many colleges and universities host summer residential…read moreevents with great success. I would not put SU in that category of "great success." We knew ahead of time that the dorm apartments did not have air conditioning. We have stayed at other Seattle schools in August over the last 10 years and while Seattle has its occasional heat wave, the nights are always cooler. This means in the evenings and through the nights, we could open our windows and have the rooms cool down. At SU, only one window would open and it would only open 3 inches. This did not allow for any air flow in the room. The rooms were so hot my computer was overheating and shutting down. The box fan the university provided overheated and died as well. Add to this the fact that the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable (and I have no idea what was in the pillow) I would have been much more comfortable on the dirt outside sleeping. There was one staff member that was helpful. His name was Rain and he understands what "hospitality" means. When I arrived and asked for directions to the building I was staying in (while pulling over 50 pounds of luggage for the conference event) I was told to "wander around" because it was "somewhere nearby). Being on a hillside with lots of stairs and very little access to elevators, this was a problem. The dining hall was the real disappointment, however. Our event was to start on a Monday. ON sunday, we visited the dining hall to see what it was like. They had chicken tenders and fries. We asked about other options, maybe a salad bar. They said they don't do salads in the summer. (WTF?) However, we did actually get a salad bar (maybe a salad "tray"?) that had lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes with ranch or balsamic vinaigrette, and that was it. All week: chicken tenders with fries was the main meal. We had some other forms of chicken along with that, and one night there was a pork tenderloin, and another shredded pork. The workers serving the meals seemed to hate their jobs and served one thing: scoop and plop. Everything was scooped up and plopped in the middle of your plate, and then stacked. In the past we have stayed at Seattle Pacific University, and their dining hall was truly wonderful so I guess we were spoiled. But we cannot go back to a place that openly discriminates. I do think think we will go back to SU again. What shame. It is a great location and a beautiful campus. Why do they have to be so stupid about this potential money maker?

However, what truly dismayed me was when the doctor abruptly ended the appointment because I requested to monitor my FIBROIDS and undergo an ultrasound. She dismissed my request for an ultrasound as "poor medical practice" because I had one done a month ago. But within that month, I've altered my diet, increased my Vitamin D intake, and started taking Ayurvedic tinctures. The doctor disdainful responsed to my Ayurvedic tincture usage, mocking me as she exited, saying "I have other patients waiting for me," left me feeling deeply disgusted, mistreated, and emotionally shattered. There were no questions asked about my diet, stress management, lifestyle, etc. She simply stated, "we don't know what causes it, and over 50% of women have it." It's ironic that a health condition so prevalent among women is discredited, under-researched, and mismanaged. It's also ironic that I have learned more about fibroids, how they are caused and how to shrink them on TikTok and YouTube from holistic doctors who believe that diet and lifestyle impact our health and people who have shrunken them naturally. I sometimes wonder if doctors prefer us sick. It's disheartening when a naturopathic doctor, whose role is to explore alternative methods to conventional medicine, offers no solution but surgery. As someone grappling with the mental toll of fibroids and receiving no advocacy or empathy from doctors, this experience was particularly distressing. Especially since she shared her experience of having surgery at around my age, implying it as a recommendation. Our bodies, diets, and lives differ. Treatment shouldn't be one-size-fits-all. I cried for a solid 10 minutes afterward because I have never felt so poorly treated. She made me feel powerless. I ended the call abruptly; I couldn't bear it. It's disheartening when a doctor won't listen to you. you are your best advocate. Best of luck to anyone struggling and seeking help.
