Even after graduating, most of the professors still remember their students and are willing to meet up or advise students via emails about further careers. I see a few negative reviews about the fees and public resources. This Is a Private School and any school has its own regulations with both pros and cons. Please carefully select your school before enrolling. I also experienced course registration issues. I was so frustrated! Yet, I'm sure that would also happen with any schools, especially when many of the office employers are actually students who are also trying to learn. We all experience different situations and we grow from these stories in our lives. I love the overall environments, include friendly staffs, faculties, and modern buildings, that make students feel being sincerely concerned. I attended a summer conference event at SU. Many colleges and universities host summer residential…read moreevents with great success. I would not put SU in that category of "great success." We knew ahead of time that the dorm apartments did not have air conditioning. We have stayed at other Seattle schools in August over the last 10 years and while Seattle has its occasional heat wave, the nights are always cooler. This means in the evenings and through the nights, we could open our windows and have the rooms cool down. At SU, only one window would open and it would only open 3 inches. This did not allow for any air flow in the room. The rooms were so hot my computer was overheating and shutting down. The box fan the university provided overheated and died as well. Add to this the fact that the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable (and I have no idea what was in the pillow) I would have been much more comfortable on the dirt outside sleeping. There was one staff member that was helpful. His name was Rain and he understands what "hospitality" means. When I arrived and asked for directions to the building I was staying in (while pulling over 50 pounds of luggage for the conference event) I was told to "wander around" because it was "somewhere nearby). Being on a hillside with lots of stairs and very little access to elevators, this was a problem. The dining hall was the real disappointment, however. Our event was to start on a Monday. ON sunday, we visited the dining hall to see what it was like. They had chicken tenders and fries. We asked about other options, maybe a salad bar. They said they don't do salads in the summer. (WTF?) However, we did actually get a salad bar (maybe a salad "tray"?) that had lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes with ranch or balsamic vinaigrette, and that was it. All week: chicken tenders with fries was the main meal. We had some other forms of chicken along with that, and one night there was a pork tenderloin, and another shredded pork. The workers serving the meals seemed to hate their jobs and served one thing: scoop and plop. Everything was scooped up and plopped in the middle of your plate, and then stacked. In the past we have stayed at Seattle Pacific University, and their dining hall was truly wonderful so I guess we were spoiled. But we cannot go back to a place that openly discriminates. I do think think we will go back to SU again. What shame. It is a great location and a beautiful campus. Why do they have to be so stupid about this potential money maker?

Finally City University has a campus and corporate presence that lives up to, and even enhances, the University's world-wide reputation. Finally, there is a place in an urban location -- on bus lines and near restaurants and stores -- that will draw in students, creating a genuine academic atmosphere and community. Finally, as a City University advertisement that ran in the Seattle Times circa 1982 stated (http://prntscr.com/sg28h), "Your City is in our University." Before even entering the new City University campus you are taken aback by the majesty of the building. Sitting on the corner of 6th and Wall, the building seems to announce itself to you. The turret which once held the iconic Seattle PI globe (http://bit.ly/12GqHMX) proudly proclaims its new occupant and even a new lease on life (http://bit.ly/12svMUT). As you enter, you are greeted by the pristine art deco ornamentation that one assumes is original to the building (http://bit.ly/12sw79P). Continuing through to the building's foyer, you can't help but pause to take everything in. The room is grand, open, light and elegant. I understand that the foyer is available for private receptions and I can certainly understand why. It's beautiful (http://bit.ly/12swjGi). Walking forward to the library, one is struck by the thoughtfulness and creativity that has gone into understanding how a library can serve students of the digital age. The book assortment is focused and applicable to the curriculum (http://bit.ly/12sx3LF), but more importantly, the library serves as a study hall, meeting space and research center. I also believe it serves as the heart of the new student center. You want to spend time there (http://bit.ly/12swTnv)! As one tours the rest of the facility, the investment and thoughtfulness that went into the new campus is apparent everywhere. Meeting rooms, classrooms and conference rooms are well lit, decorated with northwest imagery, and supplied with the tools today's students expect such as plenty of outlets for laptops and in some cases, LED displays (http://bit.ly/12sxfdD). The second floor administrative office space is laid out in an organized manner, is well lit and yet still allows for City University team members to customize their space and let their personalities shine (http://bit.ly/12sxx4b). I have been to the new City University campus three times over the past month. Each time I find new things to admire (http://bit.ly/12sxG7L), new details to appreciate (http://bit.ly/12sxMw9). The campus is genuinely exciting and I firmly believe that this will lead to new and expansive opportunities for its students. In March 2011 I authored a paper for an MBA level class at City University in which I made the case for City University to re-embrace its "of Seattle" roots. As I wrote in that paper, "If City University of Seattle is truly going to be "of Seattle" it must live up to this mission, providing continuing education locally, in a setting that inspires educational excellence. By taking bold steps, the university will be well poised to continue that mission." (Note: I am certainly not implying that the City University management somehow saw my paper, thought it was brilliant and immediate began implementing it.) Nevertheless, congratulations to City University, its administration, professional staff and everyone else who recognized the need to take bold steps and who contributed to this fabulous new campus. It is truly something to be very proud of.

Disclaimer: I did not take any degree-level programs here, so I cannot answer questions or comment…read moreon any aspect of the under/graduate experience. I was simply a student of the Washington Academy of Languages (WAL, for short). OVERALL: 7.666/10. For the price, caliber, convenience, and overall value of the language programs offered here, it's hard to find a better place near downtown Seattle, especially for someone who works full-time and doesn't own a vehicle. VALUE FOR MONEY: 8/10. For the language courses, they definitely go slower than what you would normally be accustomed to in a college-level course, but I believe that's due to the target demographic that these courses are made for - night classes, primarily for people who work full-time. The structure is such that, if you completed Korean 1 through 3, or Japanese 1 through 4, you would be finishing what would be the equivalent of one "full college year" of that particular language - not bad, considering they recently raised the prices of their classes to $350/20 hours (usually once a week for 2 hours for 10 weeks, or twice a week for 2 hours for 5 weeks, depending on the "season" and language offerings available), up from $300/20 hours just a year ago. QUALITY: 8/10. I've had some stellar teachers, and some not-so-great teachers. Keep in mind this is subjective - everyone has a different learning style - my learning style requires a lot of reinforcement (translation: repetition and linking concepts with previously learned content), which some teachers were unable to do efficiently. With that in mind, there were different emphases on different styles of learning. Some teachers focused more on homework in terms of reading writing comprehension; my favourite style was where the teacher wanted us to record ourselves saying something in Japanese, and e-mailing that voice clip to them for review, to help us improve our speaking abilities and adjust their curriculum to better suit whatever the class collectively struggled with. I miss that teaching style - the book is somewhat rigid when it comes to introducing a concept, structure, or vocabulary; when we had to create our own voice clip regarding a topic, we had to be able to do all of "read, write, comprehend, speak", instead of just reading or just writing. CONVENIENCE: 7/10. The class timings are somewhat as arbitrary, as they are all dependent upon the teachers availability, as well as CityU's classroom availability. Thankfully, all of the classes I've taken are once per week from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, but the issues have always been based on the offered days, since classes can only run if there are 4 or more students registered (CityU-imposed rule). It's unfortunate that someone signing up has no idea whether or not a class will occur when they submit their registration, simply because they won't know how many other people signed up until either the first day of classes, or they get an e-mail outlining that there weren't enough people enrolled. This further trickles into the course offerings, where there's not a way for multiple people who would be interested in a class that is not offered for a particular season to request a specific class for a particular day/timeslot. The payment system has much improved since the first offering I took from Jan-Mar 2016 (I have taken six classes thus far: Korean 1 through 3, and Japanese 1 through 3, the last of which ended in June 2018), considering their new online payment and registration system, versus the old way, which was writing credit card information on a paper form which is then scanned and emailed to a sketchy email address with no response until a week before the class started (Thank goodness they don't do this anymore). Yelp converted review: 8/10. This place has been a great, convenient way for me to take language classes after work on weeknights, at which I've met a lot of awesome people that I have had the honour of staying in touch with, well after the classes have ended. While the classes have sometimes been hit or miss in terms of quality, I'm happy to say that the experience has been overall a net positive, and that I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to take a language class that lived in or around the Seattle area.

My fiancee, a student at Antioch went to campus to study with with a peer around 6:30pm. They continued to study for an hour until they were met with security, stating they were 30 minutes past close and needed to leave. They acknowledged it and security left the room. After that interaction my fiancee went to the antioch seattle campus info website, and found that the "Regular Building Hours (Weeks 1-10 of each quarter)" listed for Fridays are from "8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.". In fall term she had a class that did not conclude until 9:30pm, and even then the security was kind and accommodating to them when they remained later than 9:30pm. With this information she went back to security desk to confirm the hours that the facility is open to. After she brought this up with security, she was immediately with the comment of "how long have you been a student at Antioch" and "this is just what antoich is like, welcome to Antioch". He then follows up with, "i was only scheduled until 7pm, im already here 30 minutes later, the building closes at 7pm, you need to leave". So my fiancee wished him to have a better evening and returned to the study room to pack up her bag. This is where security decided to escalate the situation. He followed my fiancee to the study room, opened the door and stated, "you need to check your privilege, this is Antioch, I'm the poor oppressed employee, you need to leave because campus is closed" and proceeded to show them the time on his phone. My fiancee was taken aback by this comment because it was unnecessary and irrelevant to the situation. After that he proceeded to accuse her of refusing to leave while they were packing their bags. During this interaction she reassured him that they were actively leaving. He then proceeded to mock her during all of this by raising the pitch of his voice and stating, "your smirk is adorable, is this some kind of character that I'm supposed to know". This was another comment that she didn't really know what to do with. So she decided to say, "we don't know each other, so why don't we as adults leave the conflict here, and we will take our things and leave". At this point their bags were packed and ready to go, and he repeats that "you're refusing to leave". At this point my fiancee felt incredibly unsettled, and felt as if the security officer was seeking a reason to escalate the situation. At that point my fiancee decides to leave for her safety. He continued to follow them to the elevators watching very closely while still antagozing them. And then states, "we need a march for the poor oppressed white man". This interaction, and especially this comment, was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional, the antithesis of what Antioch stands for and values. After this my fiancee and her peer took the elevators down. He proceeded to follow them again, down the stairs to usher them out the door. Once they were out he stood in the doorway to ensure they didn't try to enter again. This was intimidation on a large scale for two students who just wanted to study. Two students who were by no means a danger to the campus, and have never ran into security that treats people like this. My fiancee feels completely uncomfortable and unsafe going back to campus now and does not wish to return. This man should not be working here as he's displayed unprofessional, erratic, dangerous, and provoking behavior. As stated before, he also does not align with antoichs mission and values with the comments he made about oppression. I'm not sure if antoich hires their own security or goes through a third party, but they need to do better.

After a loooonnnggg educational hiatus, my dad sat me down about a year and a half ago and said, "I…read moredon't care what you do, but you need to pick a major, and finish it." I chose something Business related because the company I work for would foot the bill for part of it, and, having been a nursing major, and an art history major my first round of college, after doing a few pre-requisite classes at a community college I was back in the University game. Coincidently, as it turned out, I am great at Business, and have settled into my majors very naturally. CWU-Lynnwood offers a great alternative to the expensive cost of the only other local public university (You know, the one with the icky purple and gold colors) Here, for a fraction of the price, I get a quality education from great faculty, and all the support services of the full university in Ellensburg. CWU-Lynnwood has a computer lab and library services, as well as an on-site writing lab for students. In addition to all the services offered by the University, students can partake and participate in any services or events offered by Edmonds Community College as well (since the school is located in it's own building on the Edmonds CC campus) Students can purchase textbooks and even collegiate clothing in the Edmonds CC bookstore. While the majors available for study are some what limited, they do offer some great choices for students. I am currently finishing a double-major in Accounting and Business Administration, while also completing a minor in Economics and a certification program in Supply Chain Management. All that for less than what I'd have paid at the alternative schools available to me. Seems like a savvy business decision to me, so my education is already paying off! And I have no doubt that this combination of education will provide me with a more than adequate future salary in the business world. Other available majors include teaching certification, IT and Law & Justice. CWU-Lynnwood also offers one graduate program, for Accounting majors, which meets the requirements for the fifth year of credits that is required to sit for the CPA exam. The school has clubs and programs in place to help generate a sense of community on campus, and loyalty to the school, with a student leadership program that plans fun events for students on a regular basis. For Accounting majors the student accounting society puts on annual networking socials for students to meet with firms in the area, and the school has staff in place to help students find internships to help them further their education, and professional goals. I could not be happier with my choice of CWU Lynnwood to finish my degrees. I feel my professors care for me, my education, and my professional development, and are more than adequately preparing me for grad school (which I'll start in Fall of 2012) And I've made some wonderful friends in my courses and a few just hanging out in the student lounge area studying. AND the cherry on top: you get a free Snohomish County bus system pass just for being a student. What a deal!

Being that I am majoring in Accounting and I work full time, it is really helpful that CWU offers a lot of night classes so I can complete my degree close to home. The tuition is affordable and one can take out student loans if need be. I've only had a couple of instructors that I didn't particulary care for, but overall I think the faculty is excellent. For the location, price and quality of education, I have to give this place 5 starts. Let's face it: Getting into UW's business school is extremely competitive and even if you do, they do not offer night classes. Seattle University has a great reputation, but not good enough to spend 30k a year on tuition, etc.
