Great school! Solid profs, good LORD (Jesus) it's expensive. the students that attend here are (generally) sheltered and take this opportunity to go NUTS. And I mean nuts. Anywho. It's fun, expensive, quality profs (for the most part)

Our first child began in 2021 at two and a half years old in the primary multi-age classroom. It has been wonderful to witness how the older children naturally care for and mentor the younger ones. As each child grows, they are thoughtfully observed and guided with developmentally appropriate lessons that gently challenge them toward greater independence. It is amazing to see children helping one another tie aprons, thread sewing needles, practice counting, sweep the floor, play sound games, and engage in meaningful conversation. The classroom culture fosters confidence, collaboration, and genuine joy in learning. The teachers are exceptionally well trained and committed to ongoing professional development. They are passionate about Montessori education and truly take the time to know each and every student as an individual. They also organize frequent parent partnership events that help families better understand the Montessori approach while building strong connections within the broader school community. When our second child turned two and a half, he was welcomed with open arms. Even before officially joining, he already felt connected to the school. Now in his second year, he is thriving. Our oldest is currently in the lower elementary program and is always excited to go to school each morning. He often wants to stay late to take full advantage of the enriching afterschool offerings, from comic book creation and cooking to putting on plays with friends. Northwest Montessori has nurtured not only our children's academic growth, but also their independence, confidence, creativity, and compassion. We feel deeply thankful to be part of a community that supports the whole child and creates such a joyful foundation for lifelong learning.

This unique, engaging, and enjoyable event was hosted by Jennifer, Yelp Eastside CM from Issaquah. Our VYEE instructor was Kellie, the enthusiastic and passionate owner of The Works in Seattle (2/11/21). I signed up thinking ahead for something fun to look forward to. After my recent past two weeks, this event was so welcomed! I'm always curious how artists and craftspeople create unique items and are able to establish a vibrant indie business too. I've taken other similar classes that allows for creativity and a timeout from the day-to-day. The vibe that Jennifer and Kellie created during this hour session, and seeing others with their custom, handmade bath bombs...this was a much needed and appreciated this evening. I ordered my kit on 2/8/21 intended to pick it up in person. And of course, life interfered. But the folks at The Works worked their magic, kindly got it in the mail, and I received it day of the event. Lovely packaging. Makes a great gift! Techniques are freely shared and allowed for further creativity with additional tips from Kellie and other Yelp Elites participating. I listened intently, took copious notes, and took screenshots. Inside the Bath Bombs Kit are all the items needed, including an instruction booklet, and video link to watch later for reference. Other items needed and not included are a mixing bowl, fork, 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon, and up to 3T water. After giving this process a whirl, (makes about 4 bath bombs from the kit) the choices and combos one can continue to create are infinite! Add in some creativity, you'll learn a really top notch skill, promote self care, and can give as gifts. Art meets science! Gifts guaranteed to be well received, not become a regifted white elephant, and you don't have to dust it, lol. Supporting The Works is also beneficial to showcasing their business and the artisans they also partner with. The Works Seattle 151 12th Avenue, Seattle WA 98122 theworksseattle.com

Ms. Ayfen is always trying to make learning innovative and fun for the children. Every student's culture and traditions are acknowledged and studied about and even celebrated. They are very well-rounded for their tender age. There's also plenty of healthy outdoor time and they get to go on some pretty cool adventures and field trips. I couldn't ask for more as a parent!

It's a small-ish school (as most elementary schools are) in Fremont, near the Woodland Park Zoo. BF Day is rather diverse in all meanings of the word, and does a good job of teaching kids that everyone is important and loved. The parents are generally lovely, as are the teachers, though many of my favorite staff members have retired. It can be a bit of a hippy school, but that is far from a negative, it just encourages kids to explore their creative sides and embrace themselves. I haven't heard a single negative thing about BF Day, though I do know that due to some zoning issues, a lot of kids have lost their transportation, which is a majorly sucky, but I don't believe that the school is at fault there. tl;dr BF Day is pretty much the best and everyone who went there loved it

NOT CLOSED, people! Not at all! When I moved my boys and me…read morenorthward from Portland to Seattle, I had researched the "cluster" school system (never was a name more appropriate for a system or situation), though my research was clearly insufficient. Because I made certain that I moved into what I thought would be the perfect cluster for my kids' schooling needs and profile...I just failed to realize that would make no difference whatsoever to where they went to school. My boys are half hispanic, and I wanted very much to continue with the Spanish language education I only sporadically inflict on them at home. So I moved into the Laurelhurst-ish "cluster." What Seattle did not advertise is that its school zoning situation is not just a cluster, but the mother of all godforsaken clusters. They found no availability in any ONE school for both my boys. That's because clusters at the time were only "suggestions" of where kids could attend schools. Suggestions that were largely completely ignored, and no matter where you lived in Seattle, your kid could be bussed into nearly any zone at all. So you can basically move your family onto a tent settlement ATOP a particular school, and not be allowed to enroll in it until the 300-child wait list of kids from a school 15 miles away takes their priority. W, as the kids say, TF. So the last years have been a constant cluster indeed, with my boys in two different schools and and in and out of several. Having tried or toured quite a few schools in the area now, I can say, this one is my favorite elementary school in Seattle so far. My son has a wonderful teacher, Miss Jackson (and yes, it is so punishingly hard not to say, or at least think, "If you're nasty!" every time I say her name) who despite being forced, as all teachers are, to teach to a strict test curriculum imposed by the lowest-common-denominator-encouraging "No Child Left Behind" legislation, is still highly dynamic, wildly flexible, and very encouraging of creativity in all its manifestations. I absolutely love her, and I love the diversity of the students and the parents--a graceful blend of the privileged and the struggling, chaotic and the orderly, the uber-hippies and the uber-hipsters who all somehow manage to be very empathic and very likable. It also sits at just the right notch on the spectrum of academic rigor. We tried John Stanford International with Nico, and he called them "The Von Trapp Family Singers." Whistles to encourage hallway lineups? No talking in the corridors? Boys' and Girls' lines for 5th graders? No dark sarcasm? In the CLASSROOM?! Yikes. Plus every mom I met there without a single exception kind of gave me the impression that the only hard decision she has to make in any three-week period is whether to give her cook, nanny and housekeeper massages or Lush bars as holiday gifts. I'm extremely grateful for this school and for how happy Maximo is to attend it. Teaching excellence here is clearly valued, as is parental involvement. If you're in the area AND in the market for an elementary school, stop in and say hi. They're great people.

Since then, I passed the building when revisiting some of my training sites on foot. Yesterday and today (Friday 23 February 2024 and Saturday 24 February 2024) I finally made my way inside the building and spectated the 2024 Ken Shannon Invitational (Indoor Tack and Field competition). Parking in the athletics area was available in the E1 lot (open to everyone) and the E18 (open to those with University of Washington permits). The rate for a full day of parking was $7.55 each day. I had no troubles finding a parking space either day. The ticket booth was located across from the main entrance of Dempsey Indoor along the side of the softball field area. Restrooms were along the same stretch as the ticket booth, roughly facing Husky Stadium. The entry fee for each day was $10 for general admission without discount, which I thought was a good deal as events ran for approximately 7 hours on Friday and approximately 4 hours on Saturday. The interior of the facility was well set-up to allow attendees close proximity when viewing contested events. Running events were held on the track at the same time field events were being contested in their designated section of the field. Fencing/barriers guided us spectators to viewing areas to watch the different performers. Bleacher seating was located along the starting area for track events, the triple jump/long jump area, and the pole vault section. Workers were professional and direct in communication. Athletes were tuned in to their surroundings as were the spectators and the coaches. Multiple clocks and screen displays were strategically located towards the ends of the track to communicate results. An announcer provided helpful context for results and music played when not a start of a race.
