I was introduced to Dr. Mittman through my old allergist who closed his practice due to retirement. I was concerned that any new doctor would equal the exceptional service and care levels that I had come to expect from my last doctor. Needless to say, my experience with Dr. Mittman has measured up and I feel fortunate to once again be in the hands of a capable allergy doctor. He's diagnosed me several times since I became his patient and helped me manage my strange ailments that come and go. It also helps that Dr. Mittman is warm and has a great bedside manner, and I truly felt he wants to help me, unlike other doctors I've dealt with. Dr Mittman is awesome! My son was suffering severe allergies for months. I brought him to Dr Mittman's office for check up. They did all allergy tests and specified all the allergies that my son had. wow i wish i read the reviews before going but let me start off by saying the service is horrible we had an appointment and waited 2 hours still and i knew it was odd when he put his hand under my shirt without asking and keep in mind i'm 15 and my own pediatrician doesn't do that . i was frightened but knew he couldn't ask me to take my bra off because my mom was there and she was already mad with all the wait . Even when i was changing intro the gown for my allergy patch he barged in and i was still naked and my mom was luckily standing infront of the door. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID I visited Dr. Mittman as a new patient and got nothing from the visit. It was immediately clear that the focus of his office was all about submitting insurance claims, not helping his patients. His office staff is not only rude to each other but to patients too. It was awkward listening to them speaking to each other with no respect. My total visit lasted over 4 hours. His office staff overbooks patient visits so it takes hours and hours to see Dr. Mittman and get the results. After I received my allergy test results, Dr. Mittman told me what I was allergic to but did not review an action plan. Upon further research, the allergy tests that he conducts are not accurate and often misleading. He recommended I take allergy shots, but he failed to explain they the shots would only help with my seasonal allergies, not food allergies, which was my main concern. When I left his office I was not provided a detailed copy of my results. So I went back the next day and ended up waiting another 3 hours just for a copy. Dr. Mittman and his office are a joke. If you have been going to this office for a long time, and have no problems with it, then you should remain a patient. I do not recommend comming to Dr. Mittman as a new patient. My first time seeing Dr. Mittman was several years ago. At the time, I was new to the area. I understand if ever now and then, a patient s asked to wait, but having to wait over 60 minutes for every appointment is ridiculous. Everyone's time is valuable and it is offensive to be asked to wait in his dingy office for an extended amount of time. I feel that, the office books too many appointments for one day. Dr. Mittman had a decent bedside manner, and is somewhat personable. But, he did take several phone calls during my exam, and he also met with a drug rep after moving me into a different room. The front desk staff needs some improvements. I think maybe they are overwhelmed, and they take it out on the patients. Not a good experience. The doctor was polite, but that's about the only good thing I can say. It seems that they whole goal of this office is to sell you anti-allergy shots, so you get diagnosed with allergies to pretty much everything, even things you've been eating for years. But the worst part was the receptionist staff - very very rude, with no respect to their patients, making you wait for hours with little children when you are an existing patient, sneaking in new patients that came after you. Last time I went there, I had to wait almost two hours for him to see me. He schedules way too many patients, probably because the insurance companies pay based on the number of procedures he does and how many patients he sees. I used to work for United Healthcare, so I know how it works. Anyhow, when he finally got around to see me, he did the usual motions, wrote something in his pad and sent me too to his assistants who did some more tests. He didn't really say what was wrong and what I needed to do, which would have been nice. And that has usually been the case when I've seen him. Even the medi-clinic docs on Northern Blvd are more thorough. His assistants were nice and tried to explain things the best they could. I felt sorry for them because they seemed a bit overworked. But that isn't really their job and they shouldn't have to be the ones to explain what is wrong. The doctor should. read more

I had my COVID and antibody test done by the dr. He was very cruel!! He jammed the nose swab so far into my head on both sides twice. I was hurting the whole next day. Today I have an appointment with a doctor similar to this doctors name and I wanted to make sure it wasn't the same guy. I went to Mittman over 20yrs ago in bayside. I had just had a baby and developed allergies. I felt completely violated and sick when I left this office. His examination involved him checking my breathing by asking me to remove my bra & him cupping my Breast, holding & lifting it to hear me breathe. When I asked if this was necessary he said yes because he needed to get a better hearing with his stethoscope. IMAGINE?? He did this with each breast. I never been to an allergist before but I knew this wasn't right. This was all before the computer age of yelp & google reviews. I cannot believe this is still going on!! It's pretty sickening. For years I would get deathly sick if I was injected with Lidocaine. No one could explain why or figure it out. It prevented me from procedures because I couldn't take the lidocaine. I went to Dr Mittman and he was very caring, he heard my concerns and did not brush me off line other Dr's did. He did extensive testing and in the end figured out that I was not allergic to the Lidocaine, but the preservative that was used in the vials that were double dose. When I went for my procedure, they used single dose, preservative free 1% Lidocaine and I was perfectly fine. I can't say enough about how great Dr Mittman is. I have to agree with the other reviewers and say that I do always wait about 60-90min to see the doctor, even though I have an appointment. However, Dr. Mittman is a good doctor. He is thorough and takes times to talk to you and answer all of your questions/concerns. He makes sure that he has gone over everything and doesn't try to rush you out of the door. Well, I certainly cannot agree with the other reviewers. If Dr. Mittman is running late, it is because he is willing to spend a significant amount of time examining and explaining everything to his patients. I can easily deal with that. Have you ever been to a doctor who kept you waiting and rushed your exam? He is the opposite. I have no hesitation to recommend him to others. It is very clear that he is completely knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He has given me information that other doctors could not. He returns phone calls in a timely manner. I have never encountered a nasty staff person there. I don't understand how anyone can trash a doctor's reputation because they didn't like the way the office was run. Really this offices deserves no stars... I'm amazed at how badly the staff runs this offices... The overbook time slots. Which insures, that you must wait atleast 90 minutes to be seen... I did encounter a single girl, that was helpful, but most of the staff is nasty... Though, Im not sure if I blame them. On, several occasions, I witnessed Dr. Mittman scream at his staff, I guess except for his wife and mommy. Both are employed in his office... The office charged me $200., for a letter I needed for work. There was no reason, to charge me... The letter, I needed was just a simple letter stating that I suffer from astma and allergies. The Dr. said, he would only write the letter, if he re-examines me, and if and only if, I get another allergy test. I agreed. So, I spent about 3.5 hours, getting tested and waiting. After the Dr, got the test results, he assured me, he would be able to write a through report. He advised, the letter will take a day to complete. When I went two days latter to pick it up, he was'nt in. He delegated the other Dr, to complete the letter. The office was soo nasty about it. They tried to tell me, they had no time to do it. Because I was promised it would be ready, and after I paid money for the letter, I inisisted that the give me the letter. Believe me, when I say I am very patient. I hardly ever complain. And being that Ive worked in customer serivce, I understand their vantage point. However, they were completely out of line. They are soo obtuse. The are witches of Bayside. I waited alomost two hours on a Saturday afternoon, to pick up a letter (that was suppose to be completed a day earlier). And at the end of it all, the letter was four sentences. So much for the thourough report Mitman promised. Considering how, the office acted you would think the were writing Catch 22. The letter the gave me, took absolutely no effort. I see no reason why, they put a fight. Before they even gave me the letter, the made me sign a paper stating that; the office will charge me $300, if I ever ask for any paper work again. That's crazy. I thought the $200., they got in the first place was payment enough. There are several other examples, of why You should stay away. I just dont feel like rehashing... So I don't usually post reviews about doctors because every doctor has their flaw. I had gone to Dr. Mittman for my first ever in depth allergy test after having a severe allergic reaction. My comprehensive exam took 4 hours I've never been in a doctors office for so long I even got a ticket because I couldn't leave to put money in the meter. Anyways, im in my early 20s and never have I ever had a male doctor of mine make me feel SO UNCOMFORTABLE IN MY LIFEEEEEEEEEE!!!! He pretty much did what he did to other reviewers on here. He made my take my top off and did a VERRYYYY LENGTHY AND TOUCHY breathing test while leaving his crotch on my leg that I was trying to back away from while I was sitting on bench. When I came back for my follow up for him just to check how my skin improved ( should have only taken about 15 minutes but took like an hour with the extreme wait) he MADE ME STAND IN FRONT OF HIM WITH MY BUTT IN HIS FACE AND GAVE ME ANOTHER "breathing test" from behind. For 5 minutes my butt was in his face I could no longer do it I was like okay this is enough. He even grabbed my face and was telling me how gorgeous and pretty I was. Went to this place based on the Drs knowledge and his location. I will say he is good at what he does...the problem is the office is run VERY poorly. The wait can be very long, but when he treats you he does his best to help you. The problem is his staff... either they completely hate each other or their job or perhaps both. Nobody goes out of their way to help you. And when you do call you get passed around like a bad virus. After going there and spending about three hours to see him he spent very little time with me and was very pushy and insisted for me to take the allergy shots for 5 years. Dr. Mittman saved my life. I have gone from doctor to doctor and no one understood how to get my asthma under control. Dr. Mittman diagnosed me on the first visit and put me on a treatment plan. He listened and cared about what I had to say, which was very comforting. He did not worry about my lousy insurance, and just wanted to get me better. I wish I found him before I wasted my time and money with other doctors. My asthma was exacerbated by my anxiety since I had no one to take care of me. It is true that you often have to wait to see the Doctor. BUT there is a very good reason for this - once you meet with Dr. Mittman you have his COMPLETE attention. He will spend as much time with you as you need. I have had many serious illness issues and I have been to at least fifty-plus doctors in NYC. Dr. Mittman is one of the most caring, and thorough doctors I have ever had the pleasure to meet. And I can promise you that he is not in this business for the money. He is the ONLY doctor I know that takes walk-in appointments every day that he is open. He is the ONLY doctor I know that gives you free samples of almost every medication you will need so that you do not have to go to the pharmacy for one or two days when you are not feeling well. Sometimes he even gives you enough medication at no or a minimal charge. And he always has coupons for those people that need extra help with the cost of medications. He is the ONLy doctor I know that when you have a cold or the flu can help cure you so that you can get back to work or your real life when bed rest just isn't an option. He is open six days a week and has evening hours. When his office closes at 5pm he is often there well past 8 or 9pm. When he closes at 8pm I have seen him still at his office as late as 10pm. And as far as ethics go? He is over protective about patient's privacy. He takes these issues very seriously. Patients are not even allowed to be in the hallway with one another. Listen if you have an appointment or an emergency politely point out and explain you need to be seen ahead of anyone that walked in. I will admit that almost every visit I do have to wait. However I know I willingly will wait because I know that when my time arrives my doctor won't be watching the clock and will give me as much time as I need. When I did have an urgent issue I told the staff and they managed to assist me. man with my life. I will admit in the past I liked some staff members more than others but right now I really do like his entire staff. They all work long hours. It most of his staff have been with him for several years or more - that says a lot. Let me also address the other review posted here. It is a sad situation but also a common one - it is very difficult to go into a doctor's office these days for any paperwork. Doctors just don't have time. They have tons of paperwork to do just to get patients tests processed - let alone the numerous requests from parents, schools, and other doctors wanting copies of charts, reports or other evidence that takes their time but they don't get paid for. And legally a doctor cannot sign a letter without examining a patient first. They could lose their license. So of course you would have to pay for the appointment and if your letter needed to prove you had allergies you would need to be tested. And after being tested you have to wait to ensure you don't have a serious reaction. 90 minutes for this process sounds completely reasonable. And I am not surprised that a "letter" was not ready the next day. This was unfortunate but everyone out there should know it is not uncommon - I don't care what doctor you go to. For any paperwork (and I've had to get a lot) you have to hound any doctor's office. Become friends with the office manager and just call often. Offices are never going to hire someone just to complete patient's paper requests and copies of records but it almost is becoming a full-time job. (Good luck to anyone out there with this issue!) And if you can't wait the staff is going to type up a letter that is very basic. What I have learned is to bring a sample of what I need my letter to state - if the doctor agrees he then can quickly make the necessary adjustments and ask his front desk to retype it for me right then and there. Try to schedule your appointments during a slower time. Because the people that complain the most are people that also make appointments during the busiest times of the day. As far as Dr. Mittman's bedside manner I have also heard him raise his voice but out of frustration not out of anger. He just wants things to work smoothly so that he can go on to the next patient. He wants his staff to anticipate his needs and address issues as they arise. But problems happen. I am happy to report that he his communication has improved. I think he also has a certain office manager that is now more visible and provides additional support. He is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met and I take great offense at anyone that would say otherwise. He participates in so many events including Toy Drives, Projects that Supports Veterans, and the countless patients that he was worked with that have been in difficult situations. I have been a patient of his since 2002 and I only recently found out that he volunteered as a doctor in a poor remote mountain area of Mexico many years ago. read more

I know Dr. Mittman since 2006. He became our family doctor and all of us including my 2 kids ages 5 and 7 and my Mom are visiting Dr. Mittman regularly in his Levittown, NY location. Dr. Mittman is very smart, knowledgeable, caring, kind and enthusiastic about his profession PCP. He is always helpful and stays on top of all major medical advancements. We are very lucky to have a doctor like Dr. Mittman. His assistant Caryn is also very kind and helpful and makes visits a true pleasure. My son, my Mom and I have been going for allergy shots all these years and they were of great help with reducing seasonal allergy symptoms and with lowering the frequency and pain levels of headaches. I need no cohersing to rate Dr. Mittman: Dr. Mittman is a great Doctor who listens and treat your problems immediately, regardless of the complaint, he is going do something about it. There is only one fault about this Dr. ( The long wait) that is true, and there is something to say about his help, they all same to have a low life condition, or unhappiness I believe this may be attributed to a very busy office and the various type of complaints they are dealing with, nothing to do with booking or appointments. Worst experience ever. Honestly i want to give zero star if i can. Will dispute his mal practice with insurance company. He did a 48 skin test on my niece's both arms, and 28 on her back all at the same day, even though all blood work was normal. And hes came up with all kinds of allergies that my neice doesnt have, suggested to get allergy shots. When we went to two other allergist and immunologists to get second opinion they said they will never do such extensive skin tests on 8year old. When we went back to inquire about this dr mittman straight up lie and said he did not do that when we have pictures to prove. I will never return or recommend him to anyone. read more

I finally found the doctor who knows how to make me better. I am 26 years old and have had asthma since I was a child. For the past two years it was uncontrolled and I landed in the hospital five times. I saw my internist and 2 different allergists and each one gave me medicine that did not help me--some of the medicines made me worse. My co-worker has been seeing Dr. Mittman for many years and has told me many times to go see him. I just never called, I live in Oceanside and thought it was a little far. Well, I finally called and went in for my first appointment this past January. I had a full panel of testing and found out what I was allergic to. The breathing test was so bad, that Dr. Mittman told me that I could not leave until I was breathing better, because otherwise I would end up in the hospital before morning. I felt bad because it was at the end of hours and the doctor and his staff stayed late so that I could have my treatment. They were all so nice about it. Finally I was able to go home and the doctor told me to come back the next day for more treatment, which I did. It would have definitely been my 6th hospital admission in 2 years, if I did not see Dr. Mittman. Thank you so much Dr. Mittman and staff for your knowledge and your kind caring of me as your patient. I have never been to a doctor who would stay late for me! My previous doctor would just send me to the hospital or tell me to go home. I now am on a regimen, see Dr. Mittman regularly and I have not been near a hospital for more than 8 months! I am so happy. Now my sister, her husband and nephew are patients and they live in Suffolk County. My first appointment I would say I waited about 90 minutes to be seen. I will say that once I was seen, the examination was thorough and Dr Mittman took his time and explained everything to me. I believe he is very good at his craft. I had a follow up appointment the following week, and this time I waited another 90 minutes, I had enough and walked out. I called the front desk from my phone and explained to the receptionist that I had to leave because i could not wait forever to see the doctor and that it was just plain rude. They were understanding and apologetic. I strongly believe that Dr. Mittman either needs a partner or take less appointments. read more

Ok lets just put out the main issue. You will be in there for a LONG time. I have spent any where from 1 hour to 4 hours there. So come with patience and a book. Now he is very through on his allergy testing. He did an extensive one which included about two per arm and about ten on my back. They awarded me with most allergic reactions. YAY? haha. He offers his services of weekly allergy shots (which there is no way I can afford) so he gave me immunity booting shots (forgot the name of them some sort of vitamin) (twice) and told me I can rent an nasal irrigation as purchase the medication from him. The three month rental was about 50 bucks and the medication through him I believe was about thirty. Luckily my insurance covered the medication. I did the irrigation machine for the three months and returned it. Over all I feel much better, I still need to take daily nasacort spray and allergy pills. But after a lifetime of getting 3-4 sinus infections, and bronchitis at least once a year, and who knows how many colds/allergy I got a year. I am better. He also did an extensive blood panel to check for any other culprits (there was) so he gave me medication and recommendations to help with that too. read more
