I appreciate the gesture and his willingness to address my concerns. That said, my goal was never to obtain a refund. My concern has always been the billing process and the discrepancy between what I paid upfront and what was later reflected through my insurance. I am sharing my experience so that other patients know to carefully review their EOBs and billing statements and make sure they understand any charges collected before insurance is processed.

The first person who answered didn't seem to understand my question and hung up on me. I later received a call back and asked the same question. The staff member told me they "do eyeglasses." When I clarified whether they provided optometry rather than ophthalmology, she eventually said yes. What concerns me most is that the front-office staff should understand the difference between these services and be able to clearly explain what type of care the office provides. These are patients' eyes and their vision, we should be able to trust that the people answering the phones understand the services they are scheduling. He has referred me to my medical provider a couple of times for tests that are covered only by them. Their selection of frames numbers in the hundreds, instead of the thousands that you might find in a corporate office. However, the woman who helps with the frames is attentive and will go to extra effort to get what you need. This is a family-run business. You get personal attention, and that is hard to find.

This is the same staff who had informed me that their computer problem could not be addressed since the doctor was on vacation and computer issues would not be addressed until his return. The doctor seemed to lose patients with me when I had pointed out a problem occurring near my eyes. An incompetent doctor informed me that an M.D. "would not go anywhere near my eyes". I shared this with Dr. Noguchi who became incensed that he was asked to check the problem. Upon completion he stated, "well now you can't return until the beginning of 2026." I can tell he's a great Dr. his waiting room was full. the staff in the back were also very gentle, professional and took their time with my elderly mom. Which is so appreciated. The following month we came back for a test. The ladies in the front told us my mom was not scheduled that day. And that her appointment was actually in 2 weeks. But thank god i kept the appointment card. I showed them the card. So that's when they let my mom see the Dr. And instead of an apology, the front staff made us feel like it was almost our fault that they forgot to put us on the schedule. Yesterday, she had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Tae S. Kim at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. For an older woman, it has to be traumatic. But, it had to be done since she was losing vision and that alone could be very daunting. However, she confessed that the experience wasn't that bad, thanks to Dr. Kim. That's what I realized as well, having seen patients waiting for this professional, as their turn came about. I guess, eye surgery is somewhat common as a person gets older. The staff is very kind and patient, as I see one of the assistants provide detailed instructions to my mother on the medication that she has to endure for the next month or so. As I watch another receptionist answer the phone, I can tell that they're very calm and knowledgeable in the process. A couple years back, I had an eye infection and I remember Dr. Kim's kindness and thorough explanation of the eye drops and care that was needed for me to heal. I know many of us complain about the lack of thoroughness when it comes to professionals these days. A lot of them are about making that quick buck and to a certain extent, I can't blame them. It's still a business right? However, whenever I see a medical staff showing generosity in the time spent with you and the paperwork process, I get a good feeling knowing that they're probably doing the same with others. My lone issue has to be the form of payment needed for the services at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. Cash and check only? For those who don't have the money now, how does one get treatment? I know medical insurance and Medi-Cal are accepted here, but in this day and age - NO CREDIT CARDS? I'm kinda dumbfounded. Anyways, I would come back to see Dr. Kim again, since this place seems somewhat hidden to the general population. I see old people (aka seniors citizens only). Could be the hidden gem of eye care. Since, it's right next to my primary care physician - Dr. Pak @ First Medical Center, it's a no brainer for me.
