Dr. Starr took great care of my husband. He truly cares about his patients, and we're grateful for it.

***UPDATE!!*** After my review was posted, Dr. Starr personally reached out and left a voicemail offering to refund all of the money I paid for my visit. I appreciate the gesture and his willingness to address my concerns. That said, my goal was never to obtain a refund. My concern has always been the billing process and the discrepancy between what I paid upfront and what was later reflected through my insurance. I am sharing my experience so that other patients know to carefully review their EOBs and billing statements and make sure they understand any charges collected before insurance is processed. read more

My first time here. The doctor was very thorough and Cindy was very helpful. Highly recommend them.

Cindy was so great in setting my up via phone as a new patient. Very kind with a calming demeanor. I have a tricky situation going on and haven't seen the doctor yet but I want to leave a review about her. First impression of their services is outstanding read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Starr for nearly seven years now and am extremely happy with the care I've received. Cindy, the office manager, is always super friendly and helpful when I arrive. Dr. Starr himself is a very warm and caring individual who will go to any length to assure a good patient experience and top-flight care. He has an extremely impressive educational background for his work and brings his deep expertise to every issue that may arise. As a patient, I've always felt that Dr. Starr cares deeply about each of his patients and spends as much time as necessary to listen to concerns and provide the very best treatment plan. I called Dr. Starr's office for an appointment and was able to get in the same day. Cindy, his office manager, was very helpful in arranging my appointment on short notice. Dr. Starr did a thorough exam and spent a lot of time explaining my condition and his recommended treatment plan. I really appreciate the time he spent with me and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs an ophthalmologist. read more

I have yet to be seen by the Dr. BUUUUTTT, my review is for their front desk/appt personnel Cindy. She has been nothing but fabulous in her demeanor, her willingness to help, and her follow up/thru. I have an eyelid issue and told her its been bugging me but I couldnt get any Dr. to be seen sooner. She got a cancellation and called me back the next day with a sooner date squeezing me in among 30 other appts. I couldnt tell you how lost of an art it is to actually care about people and patients. I just wanted to write this review in advance to let everyone know about this experience. Whatever you do, dont lose an employee like her! read more

Dr. Starr is the best! I had a horrible eye infection and he went above and beyond to help me. Now my eye is back to new and I'm so grateful for his help and expertise. I will never go to another eye doctor, you will not be sorry for choosing him! Thanks Dr. Starr! read more

Oh wow. I'm so happy with the decision to do the LASIK with Dr. Starr. For several years I was wearing glasses. I really really hate wearing glasses. It's so annoying when you lose them or break them. I really wanted to find another solution. When I heard of LASIK, initially I was told I was not a candidate. Honestly I was kind of fearful of the procedure. When my Opthalmologist retired i found Dr. Starr. He made me feel comfortable with the decision to go forward, and I'm glad I did. I now have better than 20/20 vision and I'm so happy. Just a side note, Cindy is great at the front desk! ***Ok, I had to add to my review. This is crazy.. I was walking my dog, Dexter, and I saw a flea on him. It sucks that my dog had a flea on him, yes, but the point here is that I SAW A FLEA on a 17 lb poodle from 4 feet away! Pretty crazy. I absolutely could not have seen that a few weeks ago. read more

I have a lazy eye, astigmatism, and aging working against me so I always go to an ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. I can't say I've ever had a great experience, it's just meh. But today was a little different. Dr. Starr was thorough and easy to talk to. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. I even had a few things done that were new for me so I felt like I received a good overall picture of my eye health and vision. He is straight forward, to the point, and tells it like it is. I appreciate that! He was clear about billing and the process as was the very nice lady at the front. He doesn't pressure you to get glasses/contact there either. He also gave me clarification and eased my nerves about my upcoming DMV appointment. I would definitely recommend him! read more

Dr. Starr is a gentleman and a scholar. I made an appointment for my elderly aunt (who has no insurance but many age related eye problems), and the doctor immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease. Very communicative and personable, my aunt who hates leaving the house can't wait for her next appointment with her new eye doc! We trust Dr. Starr 100% and feel so lucky to have found him 8-) read more

I saw Dr. Starr today for the first time. His office staff was so professional. It was an emergency visit as I lost temporary vision in my left eye. I was afraid and he put me at ease. Dr. Starr stayed through lunch to examine me. He did a complete eye exam. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing an ophthalmologist. He scheduled follow up appt. Even referred me to a general practitioner for follow up on diagnosis. Definite 5 stars. read more

I can't believe it, I'm 18 years since I had LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Starr and I still see perfectly without glasses! Before my LASIK, I couldn't see anything without glasses and i hated my glasses and contacts. I'm a nurse and I'm very picky with who I choose for my healthcare. He is very kind, extremely thorough and a talented surgeon. Dr. Starr is a perfectionist which is exactly what you want in an ophthalmologist. I would recommend him 100% for LASIK and all your vision needs. I have referred my family and many patients to Dr. Starr and he has taken great care of all of them. read more

Dr.Starr and Cindy are an amazing team. I needed an Ophthalmologist urgently one afternoon as I looked into the mirror and saw my right eye was covered with blood on one side. My husband found Dr. Starr as the top Ophthalmologist in Huntington Beach and contacted the office. Cindy was very kind and was able to fit me into Dr.Starr's already very busy schedule. He did the examination and told me that it was nothing serious but to take it easy and rest my eyes. I am grateful for both Dr. Starr and Cindy for making the appointment available to be seen as well as reassuring me that nothing serious happened to my eye. Thank you so much! Vickie M. read more

Dr. Starr is very attentive, thorough in his examination. He took time to explain and discuss with me regarding my eye health. He's a doctor in a professional, traditional sense (not a 5-minute max, "assembly line" type that we sadly see at many medical services today). I became Dr. Starr's patient last year, and my family members became his this year. I highly recommend Dr. Robert Starr. read more

Dr. Starr is absent-minded and not up to date in his practice. His office is cluttered and dirty. The equipment is old. He services patients in his waiting room. He does not provide complete prescriptions (I needed reading, computer, and distance). He provided a blurred distance prescription. I went to an ophthalmologist because of severe dry eyes and focus problems. He told me to use Costco eye drops. Plus, he collects a cash only service fee, no receipt, on top of insurance and copay. I was referred to Dr Starr by my PCP doctor to get my eyes checked, I had LASIK's done 22 years ago by some doctor in Irvine I don't remember his name but it was a new procedure at the time but it faded so I've been wearing glasses for 10 years and not wanting to get LASIK's again but after getting checked by doctor Starr and him telling me I'm a perfect candidate to have the surgery I thought about it for a few months and decided to go for it, I was so tired of keeping my glasses from getting hazy and the glare and everything that goes along with glasses, I am absolutely blown away by the results my vision is unbelievable it's a game changer and Dr Starr is super cool and professional, I would definitely go see him if you are thinking about LASIK surgery read more

Literally one of the most kindest and most caring doctors around. I had an emergency with my eye a little over a week ago and I was in a rush to get seen by an ophthalmologist. I called a few offices and was able to be squeezed in the same day by Dr. Starr, while the other offices were dismissive of my urgency and wanted to schedule me weeks out. I went to Dr. Starr's office and his front desk receptionist was also super sweet. Dr. Starr took me back and ran a comprehensive amount of exams on my eye. He was able to diagnose my issue and gave me a handful of medications to start taking right away. I already started feeling much better by the second day. He even called to check in on me the following day. Overall, I am super grateful for Dr. Starr and his knowledgable expertise. Highly recommend! read more

This weekend I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Robert Starr's practice in Huntington Beach. On Saturday I began to experience blurred vision and floaters in my field of view. I immediately jumped on "Yelp!" to see if there were any Opthalmologists nearby and was pleasantly surprised to discover Dr. Starr's 5 Star rated practice was only minutes away. It was late in the day on Saturday, so I didn't get my hopes up. I called his office and was sent to voicemail; however he called me back within a few minutes and told me to come in. I was surprised and thankful that he was willing to see me so quickly. Despite the fact that it was eating into his weekend, he gavee the most thorough eye exam Ive ever had. I was a good thing too as he identified an inflammation that left untreated could have been disastrous. Today is Monday and I am already doing much better and will follow up with him soon. If you are having any issues with your eyes go see Dr. Starr. He's thorough, professional, and even has a few good jokes. read more

Dr. Starr is a breath of fresh air when it comes to doctors. I made an appointment with him based upon all of the good Yelp reviews that I read, and he did not disappoint. He is definitely a genuine and caring individual. An extremely professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful ophthalmologist. I came to him with a dry eye condition. He listened to my concerns and we discussed different treatment options. Dr. Starr is a bright man. He's very well educated (with a PhD in addition to his MD). He offered pros and cons, including scientific studies, but in the end what mattered the most was that we were taking the path that I felt was right for me. No pressure. Just solid advice, and a caring approach. He even provided some helpful nutritional advice. Dr. Starr really takes a personal interest in the well-being of his patients. He seriously went above and beyond the call of duty in helping to get a prescription approved by my insurance company. I spoke with Dr. Starr directly over the phone several times working through the issue with my insurance, and he was even on the phone himself with my insurance company trying to resolve the issue. When was the last time you had a doctor talk to your insurance company on your behalf? Never before. That's what I'm saying. This doctor is just a very helpful and considerate individual with a true personal touch who cares about people. read more

Delighted to leave this review. Dr. Starr phoned me on Friday to ask how the surgery went. Well, let me tell you how it went: I HAVE MY SIGHT BACK and everything he told me I should do, I have done. HE IS THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS ---- and also goes the extra mile to tell you, point blank, his opinion on subjects that a less caring professional wouldn't share. My son and I where very lucky to have found Dr. Starr. I cannot express my gratitude enough for his exceptional care. I've tried making appointments with other ophthalmologist offices and no where else seemed to care to open up their schedule for an immediate appointment. When I spoke to Dr. starr over the phone, he listened to my concerns about sons situation and agreed that he needed to be seen right away. Dr star, the compassionate person that he is, was willing to come in on a weekend, on his day off. We are so grateful that Dr. Starr had taken his day off to come in to save my sons eye. Fast forward to many visits afterwards, my son's eye is fully healed thanks to Dr Starr. He is truly amazing at what he does! read more

Without a doubt, NO HESITATION on recommending Dr. Starr for laser surgery!! Dr. Starr was able to correct my daughter's vision from what is considered severe and with significant astigmatism to near perfect. I believe 20/20 in one eye and even better in the other. This poor girl started at 5 years old with the "coke bottle" glasses which she "accidentally lost" twice in kindergarten due to being teased. We literally went through years of thick glasses to then when she wanted to switch to contacts to play club basketball and high school sports, only trusting Dr. Starr with her care from then on. Our daughter's laser surgery was 4 years ago (time flies) and we are happy to report that her eyes have stayed the same (!) even after all this time!! We can't thank Dr. Starr enough-he TRULY is a miracle worker and very gifted!! THANK YOU, Dr. Starr!!! read more

Dr. Starr is an excellent ophthalmologist, always providing the highest standard of care in a caring, professional manner.

Upon a further experience, Dr Starr did send us a refund, which was a pleasant surprise. Thank you Dr.Starr.

I recently had a tennis ball hit my eyeball, causing me extreme irritation and concern for permanent damage. I called several offices the following day and no one was able to see me for weeks out. When I called Dr. Starr's office, Cindy at the front desk listened to my concerns, was so kind and told me she would contact Dr. Starr who was doing surgeries the whole day. By miracle he was able to see me the same day! Dr. Starr met with me at his office and was able to give both my eyes a full on examination, even though I was only expecting him to examine my injured eye! He was extremely thorough, kind (also funny !) and gave me great advice for my eyes. He even called the following day to check up. Talk about going above and beyond ! I am eternally grateful for his help, concern and expertise. 10 stars for Dr. StaRR!! read more

Dr. Starr has been my eye doctor for almost 20 years and continues to be absolutely outstanding. He is definitely one of the best eye doctors, and he is also one of the best doctors in the medical field. This is an updated review for Dr. Starr.
