I wish every medical care provider was like Dr. Grumet. He is specialized, knowledgeable, professional, and relatable when explaining the logistics of an injury. He is open ears, realistic, and just makes your injury/condition bearable. I resulted with a minor injury (compared to what he typically sees), however to me it was a huge barrier to my active life. Injuries are one of the toughest mental games with someone who is super active. Dr. Grumet gave me reasonable timelines and guidance as to what to look out for. It's been 6-months since my surgery with Dr. Grumet, for a large rotator cuff tear. In my experience, I cannot have imagined a better outcome, or better care than I have received from Dr. Grumet, and from every person in the process. This review is for the practice in general. I didn't get to see the doctor because front office workers were terrible to work with. I completed a request for an appointment online. 3 days, no contact. I called the office number, nobody picks up, so I left a voicemail. Tried calling each following day, never anything but voicemail. I live close, so I drove over. I walk into the office, the girl at the front desk greets me with "you must be at the wrong place." Strange way to address someone just walking in, but I'm already there. I confirm the address and suite is correct - apparently they stopped seeing patients for the day, so I had to explain that I was looking to schedule an appointment and was not there to be seen that day. Finally, I go to the back and speak to the scheduler, we find an appointment in 2 weeks, and I asked her if Dr Grumet performs the specific type of surgery I'm looking to get an opinion or treatment on. She doesn't know, but says she'll ask and give me a call. A week later - no contact. I try to call, it just goes to voicemail and never gets a callback. I finally left a voicemail to cancel the appointment - I can't imagine getting treatment done and not being able to get through to anyone if there's a question or issue. I had requested to see the doctor but was seen by the PA first. She diagnosed me and then the doctor came in. He said very little. I went to see another orthopedic doctor. Also they charged me $850 for a knee brace that I could purchase on line for $104. Insurance allowed $200 for it. Since my deductible was not met I am being billed for the difference. They have you sign paperwork before being seen where you agree to pay for whatever they charge you. They are knowing overcharging! read more

This is an update on my previous review. Dr. Grumet performed surgery on my daughter's knee almost 3 weeks ago. My daughter is recovering well. Dr. Grumet has been fantastic treating my daughter for a torn ACL. His skills, knowledge, experience, and professionalism are commendable. Also very important to me and my daughter is the way he kindly treated us. He made my teenage daughter felt at ease through the entire process. Dr. Grumet is the 3rd orthopedic surgeon that I've seen for my troubled right knee over the past 2 years, and I'm happy to say that my search for a professional, caring and competent Dr. is finally over. I did my research based on reviews from many different resources, and he consistently came out on top. The fact that I couldn't get in for my 1st appt right away shows his demand level (it took a couple of weeks) but it was well worth the wait! On my 1st visit I met with his PA, Linda, who spent a great deal of time going over my previous x-ray and MRI results, and explaining things in a way that made sense. She also answered all of my questions thoroughly and competently. Then Dr. Grumet came in and he was caring and approachable - went over things in detail and made recommendations for my next steps. I went to 2 appts with him and after the 2nd appt, he recommended surgery the next day based on my fluid lab results that came back. I was not expecting another surgery so soon, but he explained the reasons why it needed to happen right away. He came from a place of caring and concern for my overall well-being. He even added me to the surgery schedule the next day even though I'm sure he was fully booked. He gave me his personal cell # before the surgery and returned calls and texts promptly. He also followed up to check on me a few hours after my surgery. The surgery went well and I'm now in recovery, but I feel very good about how it went (I didn't feel that way after my 1st surgery with my previous Dr.) Dr. Grumet specializes in sports medicine (I read that he was the Dr. for the Angels team at one time). He understands that I'm an active person who played sports growing up and now loves to travel, etc. His goal is to get me back to living the life I love and putting this all behind me. I have been active throughout my life without any major health problems. I was able to do bike rides covering 50 miles at least twice a week. However, I had an accident that required surgery on my left knee. I got very frustrated by four doctors who keep recommended that I undergo knee replacement surgery due to my age. I saw Dr. Grumet this morning at his office in Orange County about a shoulder injury. I did my research, and like the other yelper on his review list, I felt if he was good enough for the Angels, he was good enough for me. He was very thorough in his physical review of my shoulder, as well as checking and reading my MRI images and report. He explained my options and did not pressure me into any unwanted pills, treatments, and or surgery. I could tell he was about the well being of the patient and not about the well being of his wallet. The only thing I will suggest is that if you are going with a baby and a stroller, things may get tight in the examination room. He had two student assistants (who I assume were his understudies) with him, it got a little tight and uncomfortable for my wife as she had to constantly adjust and move the stroller. Dr. Grumet is the best in the business. My experience with him is a hip arthroscopy for a torn labrum and femoroplasty, knee reconstruction, and meniscectomy. Three surgeries from 3 sports injuries. Each time I recovered to be bigger, faster, and stronger than before the injury. Dr Grumet performed a highly complicated surgery on my husband's right knee; ACL reconstruction and bi-lateral meniscus repair (try saying that 5 times fast ). Aside from the surgery going very well, he did a wonderful job prepping us on what to expect post op and the several weeks to follow. So far I've really liked Dr. Grumet. Unfortunately I'm a bit experienced with orthopedic surgeons. I've already had 2 left hip surgeries and a right shoulder surgery. One of my hip surgeries wound up being unnecessary so although I thought I might need surgery on my right hip I was a bit leery of jumping straight in. Dr. Grumet did not try to rush surgery at all. We tried PT, a couple injections, just wait and rest, and after all of that did not work, we decided together it would was time to try surgery. Just scheduled today so can't speak to his surgery results yet, but his bedside manner and the way the office is run is a ton better than my last hip surgeon. I've had to wait a bit here and there, but that's unfortunately unavoidable in the medical world. It has been nowhere near the hour or 2 I would always have to wait for my last hip surgeon. I would definitely recommend Dr. Grumet based on my experience so far if you have issues that fall within his specialties. I'll try to remember to update here post-op. read more

I am basis this on my pain experience. I waited 2 months to see this doctor. I am seeing him for severe pain in my knee. This pain wakes me and keeps me awake. This has severely impact my normal routines. The doctor says I can have the Orthovisc injections. I am told I needed to contact Orthovisc myself to set this up. (10 stars for their excellent customer service) The doctor's office will not schedule me appointment until they have injection in their possession. The Orthovisc lady tells me she is over-nighting my injection to the doctor's office. On a three-way call, the doctor's office acknowledges this and we are in understanding that either I will call once I was available the following day (Friday) if I have not heard from them by 1030 am. She had the perfect opportunity to tell me at this point that they did not even make it to the doctor's office till 11 am. I, along with Orthovisc rep were under the impression that I would receive my injection on Friday. Friday 10:30 am to 11 am I am calling & calling, anxious that I may actually get relief after months in constant pain and no sleep. I left my previous appointment and drove to doctor's office. After waiting 20 minutes in the lobby, I am told that doctor will not see me because he has a full schedule and no exception. What happened to the RUSH to get my injections authorized by insurance company and the OVER-NIGHT delivery of my injection to the doctor's office? I'm crushed. I hobble back to my car and cry in pain all the way home. I did report to my medical group. The doctor's office apologizes for the "misunderstanding" (doctor's office lingo to cover their arse). Now I have to wait the entire weekend and until who-knows-when I can get an appointment. All the while my injection for pain relief sits in the doctor's office after being rushed and over-nighted. Now you understand why I am rating this on service to my pain scale. read more

I wish that I had written this review sooner but I am not a big "Yelp" user and it never crossed my mind. 4 years ago this week I fell and tore both patellar tendons. It is very rare to tear both patellar tendons simultaneously. Not only did Dr. Grumet perform a near perfect surgical repair of both tendons, he literally saved my life (he will hate that I said that); I was transferred to a long term care facility (was hospitalized for 2 months). I believe that I was not getting the care I needed at that facility, but luckily I was taken by ambulance to see Dr. Grumet in his office once a week. On one visit he noticed I was not well and admitted me back into the hospital where the surgery took place. It turned out that I had a massive build up of fluid around my lungs, which had caused cardiac trauma, going untreated, unchecked and undiagnosed at the long term care facility. Dr. Grumet performed left knee ACL reconstruction with Allograft for me at end of 2015 and it's been 3 months and I could not have been happier with my results. I torned my left ACL in October 2015 and given my age (51) the first doctor suggested to try PT and if I can get my muscles strong enough I may not need a surgery so I tried that for a few months. I then realized without surgery I may have to pay attention to how I walk and the condition of the grounds for the rest of my life because my bone will shift if I don't walk straight, and having a weak knee could also make me more prone to falls when I am much older. I also know that I am not fond of exercises to keep my muscles strong so I started looking into surgery. I got a few referrals from friends but they all accept PPO only but Dr Grumet is the partner of one referred doctors I got and he accepts HMO and both doctors are team physicians of the Angels team so I thought if he is good enough for the Angels he should be good enough for me. Dr Grumet has great bedside manner and very confident in what he does. While waiting at the surgery room one of the attending nurses told me that Dr Grumet is her surgeon and he is the best so that really help easing my anxiety while laying on that bed. I figure the nurses working there know the doctors best so if she chose Dr Grumet then he must be good. The surgery went smoothly and when I started PT my PT told me that Dr Grumet is smart and kind and very good at what he does. I am in month four after my surgery and my recovery seems to be better than my friends, I have very good range of motion and bends and expect I would likely get 98% if not 100% back to normal. My left leg is still a bit weak but I am walking, shopping and can't wait to go on a hiking trip. Dr Grumet has an office in Irvine and Orange so you can go to either one to see him. read more
