I was looking for an orthopedic doctor when I fell and had compression fractures during the Christmas holiday. Dr. Bederman is highly respected among his peers and I was very impressed by the many positive comments from his patients but what impressed me the most was that Dr Bederman reads and responds to each and every negative comments personally. To me, that means that he cares about his patients and wants the best for them. His facilities and his staff was absolutely first rate. I got my referral on Thursday, an MRI on Saturday, and got a consultation and X-rays on Monday at his office and Friday I had my Kryphoplasty procedure done at his facility. In fact, my procedure was scheduled for the afternoon but they called and asked if could come earlier. A special thanks to my anesthesiologist who spent some time explaining the procedure and answering questions as well as my nurses. At no time did I feel rushed, Dr Bederman patiently answered all my questions and listened to my concerns. After my initial consultation I felt like I was in good hands with Dr Bederman and his staff. Two weeks after surgery I was relatively pain free and able to resume a lot of my daily activities. I was in a plane crash over 30 years ago. Since I suffered severe spine issues which affected my walking and my back. I have had three major surgeries within 2022 to 2023 and with some set backs such as hardware failure and other issues. I feel good as far as my back goes and I am not having pain like before. So many people rave about how great Dr. Bederman is but I personally did not have a good experience with him. His PA, Teag was more willing to listen to me and work to address issues with my low back than Dr. Bederman was. I have a multitude of issues going on with my back and Dr. Bederman denied to address the Radiculopathy that I was experiencing saying workers comp would only allow him to focus one one thing at a time, and so he decided to focus purely on arthritis in my back. The first thing he said to me when coming into the room when I first met was "your back looks great!" (Regarding my MRI). And I said well I don't feel great at all. He completely disregarded my pain. I am 31, I get it, I am young, I shouldn't have this pain. That's what everyone is telling me. I wish I could tell my discs that are deteriorating at the age of 60 year old because I have osteopenia that same thing everyone else is saying to me. Unlike other dr's, Dr Bederman never did a physical exam of me, and he never explained my mri to me either. He just said I have arthritis. Anyways, I thought it was really unusual that Dr. Bederman deleted all of his assessment and plan of treatment notes and put a declaration " DECLARATION: I declare under penalty of perjury that the information contained in this report and its attachments, if any, is true and correct to the best of my belief, except as to information I have indicated that I have received from others....." in place of my treatment notes, I thought it was very strange. And then when I went to see him for my follow up appointment, I asked for his honest opinion about continue to pursue a career in law enforcement with my back, and he put it down to me not having the right mindset to get better. I have since seen two separate spine drs who have advices against continuing a path in law enforcement because I am at high risk to fracture my spine from the osteopenia alone, not even regards to the rest of the pain and things going on with my back. Dr. Bederman did not even put any assessment or plan of treatment in the visit summary for that follow up appointment. So clearly, he doesn't care about ALL of his patients. Opt you've been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease etc then look no further for treatment. From my first appointment with Dr. Bederman I was blown away by his professionalism, his knowledge and expertise. Spinal surgery is not a 100% guarantee. I respect the work that Dr. Bederman does . However ,the last surgery (Kyphoplasty ) he performed left me bed ridden and paralyzed - a state far worse than the one I was in . After Immediate debilitation , I contacted his staff and was subsequently told by his office for months that I would get remedy . I received no support but was left to languish . Finally , my own insurance company and the state of California ( my employer ) got me into the hospital ( 2 months ) and physical rehabilitation. I was highly encouraged by the state to litigate. Be cautious of his glib easy fix attitude and his inability to accept his own mistakes as they cost me my livelihood and left me in severe chronic pain . read more

Broke my back in 2 places back In April 2020. This office is Amazing! I would highly recommend Dr. Bederman and his staff. They are prompt and super friendly. The outdoor waiting room is so nice. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment, was seen right away. Let me start by saying, I have not met dr. Bederman yet. It is quite possible he is a wonderful doctor. I don't know because I've only been waiting in his office for 90(!) minutes now. Ninety. I had an appointment scheduled for 3 o'clock with my teen. We've waited in the waiting room for an hour(!). Wearing masks of course. In a not cool enough large waiting room full of people waiting, during a heatwave in the midst of a pandemic. Not fun. When I tried asking about the wait, I got a pretty dismissive response of "the doctor is behind today and there are still two people before you". That was @3:25. "Two people before me means waiting at least another 30-40 minutes!" I said to the front desk person. She looked at me blankly and said yes ‍. There was no apology or any acknowledgment that they had any fault in scheduling things in such a way. There was no forewarning when I arrived that I'd need to wait longer than what is normally expected by any reasonable human being. There certainly wasn't a heads up phone call suggesting I showed up an hour later. Nothing. Just a blank stare. So at 4 we're finally called back. Then we need an x ray. The tech is gonna come take my son for an x ray the nurse says at 4 o'clock. They just took him now. It's 4:30. So I've been waiting here for 90 minutes and haven't seen the dr yet. I was determined to stay because I needed the consultation. But I'm never ever coming back to this place where I've aged and grown old under my mask, while being ignored, dismissed, and uncomfortable. This is, by far, the worst experience I've ever had at any physician's office. And I've been to plenty. It's disrespectful, dismissive, and disorganized. I got no less than 4 confirmation notices for this appointment. Seems like the doctor's time is really important to him. Apparently, my time - not so much. Update: I really liked Dr. Bederman. He was apologetic, knowledgeable and kind. That is why my review is three stars instead of zero. He probably deserves four or five stars. But the visit was terrible and I just cannot go back. It was THAT bad. Another update: I just read Dr. Bederman's response, and I very much appreciate it. I understand that sometimes there are circumstances that cannot be predicted and stuff may come up. However, no effort has been made by any staff member, to try and mitigate the situation. If I were told in advance there was a problem, I could have modified my expectations. If staff bothered to be more apologetic or understanding, rather than regard me as a nuisance every time I approached to ask a question, that would have made me feel more like a person that is respected and appreciated, rather than merely an irrelevant imposition. Unpredictable occurrences cannot be controlled, attitude and consideration can. Dr Bederman treated us very well. I had my surgery in July of 2020. What should have been a routine thoracic fusion has turned into a complete nightmare STILL. I spent 15 days in the hospital, most of which was in the ICU due to the piercing of the lining of my spinal canal. It was absolute hell. Shortly after leaving the hospital I began complaining of a lump and pain across my upper abdomen and that was dismissed by him and his PA as "surgical site pain." Once I moved back to Houston 6 months later, I still called and complained of pain and this odd lump and distended abdomen. It was dismissed, once again, as "surgical site pain" I complained of not being able to catch my breath, extreme fatigue, feeling like I'm in a vice grip, only to be told "it's bone pain from the ribs and surgical site pain." Countless trips to the ER, CT scans and visits with specialists here in Houston are all scratching their heads because they can't figure out WTF he did to me when he sliced and diced me. Upon review of my 2500+ medical file from my 2 week stay at St. Joseph's, I found out I had atelectasis and a pneumothorax while in ICU. Turns out I have permanent atelectasis because it went undiagnosed and untreated (remember the "it's surgical site pain") I have also been told that I have, now, restrictive lung disease, a distended lung and stomach, but yet NOBODY can figure out HOW TO FIX IT. My previous back surgeon here did not agree with his diagnosis nor his treatment. I still feel like I'm in a vice grip, my abdomen feels like my guts are falling out and I have to hold my stomach and push up while I'm walking. I'm meeting with more specialists to attempt to find a solution for the catastrophe this doctor has caused me. My quality of life is WAY worse after this surgery. I should not have trusted this man with my spine at all. I wouldn't trust him to cut my steak, much less my body. I'd say run, and run fast! He shouldn't be cutting people open and doing this surgery without neurosurgeons in the operating room..like he did with me. He left the bone spur in after piercing the lining of my spinal canal, sent me to ICU, and then called in the calvary. Once the leak was fixed, the trauma to my body has been nothing less that pure hell. I've had many surgeries in my lifetime, plenty of them on my back, but nothing EVER like this. I'd suggest he and his team LISTEN to what their patients are telling them and make some real conclusions instead of dismissing it as "surgical site pain" because a year and a half later, it's not surgical site pain anymore. Once I have a diagnosis of what's going on, he will be hearing from me. He doesn't belong anywhere near patients at all. Shameful. read more

Saw Dr Bederman yesterday and was extremely impressed with the efficiency of his office staff at Restore Ortho. CamilIe was able to get me in with only one days notice which was awesome considering I took a pretty bad fall while snowboarding the day before. I typically bring along some work to these appointments expecting long wait times, but was very pleasantly surprised when I was called back to my room within 8 minutes of arrival (I will say their wifi was awesome for the 8 min I did use it). I had several X-rays taken and was seen by a PA (Henry) who was very friendly and did a thorough physical exam. He left the room to discuss my history and findings with Dr Bederman, then they both returned after they had a chance to review my images together. Dr B was very pleasant and helpful in suggesting several exercises I could do at home to speed up the healing process. I always write a list of Qs for my appointments and he had already answered 90% of them before I had the chance to take the list out! We finished up talking about the injury and I felt very comfortable with the care plan he put together. Although my appointment was quick (in and out in about an hour) I never at any point felt rushed. The doctor and his staff were all very friendly and I could tell that patient satisfaction is high on their list of priorities. Visited Dr. Bederman today - 3rd do tor seen for newly diagnosed adult degenerative scoliosis. The first told me I'd need spinal fusion surgery - the 2nd and Dr Bederman agreed that was not necessary at this time. Both Dr Bederman and his PA (separately) spent a lot of time explaining everything I needed to know and answered all my questions. I will go back to him for regular checkups going forward. The thing that made me want to write this review, however, was an exceptional incident I witnessed. While I was waiting for a copy of my X-rays, an elderly patient was in a wheelchair nearby. She asked someone behind the desk for some help, but Dr Bederman was closer, so he came over to see what she needed. She was tangled up in her wheelchair, which was off kilter. Dr. Bederman spent at least 10 minutes helping to get her comfortably situated in her chair. I was very impressed. read more

If you have back pain this is the doctor you want. I spent close to two years in ever increasing pain. I was offered pills but I don't want to cover the issue and become a zombie. I did physical therapy at three different places and it only got worse. Finally found Dr. Bederman and he listened. He didn't treat me like I was wasting his time. He set up the surgery quickly. He explained it well before hand so I knew what to expect. I had it mid-day and was out of the hospital by 9pm! When I woke up the pain I had dealt with for two years was gone. This man changed my life. I once sat on the floor in a checkout line at Walmart because I couldn't stand any longer. That makes you feel sub-human. I had all but stopped working. Nice staff and smooth office operation. I visited him for an L-1 compression fracture. I made an appointment in his Costa Mesa office and gave my insurance info and thought I was all set. Office calls me 4 days before my appointment to tell they don't tale my covered Cali insurance( I don't have covered Cali I have blue shield PPO) So they cancelled my app. and told me they don't know what they will get paid so they don't take in Costa Mesa but do take it in Orange ( doesn't make sense to me either) The next app. in Orange office is 3/4/15. For someone who is in severe pain this is unacceptable. All of this should have been told to me when I made the original appointment, when I gave my insurance information. Also, his office and name come up under my plan on the website. I spoke with two different people and even though they made the mistake they made no effort to fix the issue or accommodate me. I now have to find a new doctor and make a new appointment that may take some time. read more

I fell 6 feet, 4 inches, the fall resulted in terrible injuries. When I was still in a semi conscious state due to the concussion, the Neurosurgeon at the hospital's Trauma Center informed me that the fall (among other injuries, of which I already was aware) resulted in five fractured lumbar vertebrae and that - upon release from the hospital - I had to stay in a brace for eight weeks, otherwise I might not ever be able to walk again, this information devastated me completely. Fortunately my 2 daughters researched and found the exceptionally talented and kind Dr. Bederman. I was extremely hopeless when I consulted with Dr. Bederman at first. He gave me hope that a Kyphoplasty would greatly improve my mobility as well as my pain level. Dr. Bederman performed the procedure on April 17, 2018 (accident occurred on March 17, 2018). Towards the end of May I started to go on daily 2 1/2 mile walks, the pain level is tolerable most of the time, and hopefully still improving. When I started having neck and upper back pain and realized I should see an orthopedist, I went to yelp and read reviews of doctors in the field. I was impressed with Dr. Bederman's reputation and called for an appointment. Luckily, I was able to get in on a cancellation for the next day. The office is beautiful, but the friendly staff impressed me right away (my husband is a physician and we have done much thinking about how an office staff affects a patient's experience). I felt fully attended to as Dr. Bederman spent a substantial amount of time with me explaining the next steps, which included physical therapy and a possible epidural. As my pain worsened and the epidural didn't seem to work (which he had explained could happen), I called his office and was seen sooner than originally planned. I opted for surgery to correct my issues. Everything was explained to me thoroughly, and the staff even did some rescheduling so that I could have it done as soon as possible. My hospital experience was very positive and I was well-attended to. Even though it took about three weeks for my pain to fully dissipate and I had some weakness in one arm, physical therapy (started six weeks post-surgery) and time restored me to a pain-free, fully pre-surgery state by five months. In all of my follow-up appointments, Dr. Bederman and the staff have been friendly, attentive, and ready to take as much time as needed to answer my questions and concerns. I want to start by saying I know many people use Yelp for a number of things and I'm sure finding a doctor is probably not one of them. I myself did not initially find Dr. Bederman through Yelp, but I did go to Yelp to see others reviews before my first appointment. With that said, saying that he is one of they most amazing doctors I have ever met is an understatement. I have unfortunately had to deal with a tremendous amount of health issues throughout my life. I had been told that I needed neck surgery for many years, but I have two young kids and could not imagine doing a surgery of this severity. I got to a point in which I began losing feeling in multiple fingers and came to the realization this surgery had to happen. I was then referred to Dr. Bederman. From the moment I walked in to this office, everyone treated me like family. Dr. Bederman not only took his time explaining everything to me, but he even took an additional appointment to explain everything to my family. What we ended up doing was a 7 hour surgery around my spinal cord, but there was not one moment that I felt nervous or scared. I knew that I was in the best hands possible. I am now 2 1/2 weeks out of surgery and everyone in this office continues to check on me and make sure I am taken care of. I had back pain for many years and finally decided to go see someone about it and chose Dr Bederman. I was very impressed with his office, very modern and filled with state of the art equipment like on site MRI and CT, they even have their own surgery center which I found rather impressive. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and made me feel very comfortable in a situation that I was very nervous about. Dr Bederman was very friendly and thorough, and after some X rays explained to me exactly what was wrong in common terms that I could understand. He spent almost an hour with me and answered all of my questions and went over all my X rays right there in the exam room with me. I didn't feel rushed or pressured, and recommended we do an MRI and begin physical therapy and set me up with and excellent physical therapy group that was close to my home. He prescribed me an anti inflammatory medication and was very conservative in his treatment, not rushing me into surgery or anything I was not comfortable with. My back pain has now resolved, and I am back to my old self again. I have referred other friends with back problems to Dr Bederman and he has done a great job across the board.....he is great with everything from things like simple Sciatica all the way to complex spine surgery. His office has several other doctors practicing pain management and general orthopedics as well as another spine specialist. My Orthopedist Dr Bryce Johnson of SCOS, who I was seeing for the past 8 years has referred me to Dr Bederman since I have a severe deformity of my spine. I have (multiple) scoliosis since childhood which it's gotten worse within the last 10 years, I have a lot of pains because of that, even to perform daily activities was difficult. In June 2015 Dr Bederman performed a 2 days surgeries, back to back, to correct my spine problem. I was not sure prior meeting Dr Bederman if anyone can perform any surgery to correct it. After reading all the x-rays and MRI he explained to me what he will do on such case, he was very clear with his explanations and mentioned the pros and cons. He was very honest and of course he let me do the decision. He did not push or persuade me that I have to do the surgery, since it was all up to me. That made me very comfortable with him. I felt that he was the right person to do the job. I watched and studied the video on the website where he has performed a similar surgery on a patient, prior my decision. I got more information from it. It was a long surgery on the second day, but he was able to straighten my spine. I would say it's a miracle for me. I am pain free now. I was able to walk up the hill at my neighborhood , a 1.5 mi walk, with my dog, 6 weeks after the surgery. I am a ceramic artist, I was able to enjoy my activity 3 months after. I have more energy now, and the most important thing is I am straight again. Dr Bederman gives my self-esteem back. I know I still in recovery I would say, but I am very happy with the outcome. I don't know what I would have done without Dr. Bederman! To date, he's done a major scoliosis correction surgery and a cervical fusion surgery for me. I don't know how he does these surgeries, but he's a miraculous doctor! I am so luckyI When I met Dr. Bederman, my spine was curved and collapsing due to a failed scoliosis surgery. He restored my posture and made it so I could stand upright and walk. Then, two years later, I began to have balance problems; so one more little surgery on my neck and I'm walking everywhere with no balance problems! Also, he is a wonderful human being - who is polite and respectful and very kind. He spent time with my family while I was in recovery and was there waiting for me when I woke up. I couldn't have had a better surgeon. The people who work in his office are very kind and efficient, and always return calls and answer questions. I just can't say enough nice things!
