Being that I was in my 20s, I desperately did not want to have total joint replacement but after seeking consultation from a dozen different orthopedic surgeons across socal, it became clear that a THR was my only resolve. I went with Dr Barnett because he spent nearly 2 hours answering my VERY long list of questions and concerns. Together we went into the procedure with a plan A, B, and even C based on the concern of the integrity of my femur head since potential need for a bone graft may have been necessary. He was honest and upfront about not fully knowing the scope of the bone integrity. I appreciated him being forthright and transparent. His bedside manners were some of the best I've ever experienced from any medical practitioner. It is thanks to Dr Barnett and his team, that I had a smooth recovery with no surprises or road blocks of any kind. It is truly incredible how excellent my mobility, my strength and overall flexibility is. Nearly a decade later and I often forget my hip is bionic! I believe it's 75% the doctor(s) and the other 25% is the patients responsibility in terms of successful outcome. I couldn't be more pleased with Dr Barnett exceeding his part. I hope that he's still practicing when it's time for my revision because he will surely be my first choice. I've even recommended him to several other friends/family friends - all had similar fantastic experiences. Reading through the reviews on here, I feel like a lot of negative feedback is due to the patients neglect of doing their own research and homework. Not to mention the importance of after care. You get what you put in when it comes to post op care and therapy. I not only paid for extra physical therapy beyond what my insurance covered, but I've worked with myofascial specialists, chiropractor and ROLFing clinicians. The culmination of all of the above over the years has me in the best shape of my life! He took the time to find the right meds and really listen to how I was feeling in order to make the appropriate medication changes that basically helped me get to where I am now, which is like he gave me my life back. Dr Chang also does a variety of injections (trigger point and others) that significantly improved my ability to walk. I attribute that to his knowledge and doing the correct injections that are necessary for my individual pain issues. I am so blessed to have Dr Chang managing my pain. She treated me with genuine compassion and understanding from start to finish. Jen took the time to learn about my sensory sensitivities and made thoughtful adjustments so I could feel calm and comfortable throughout my care. She also took into account past trauma I've experienced and made sure that nothing about my procedure or recovery would be triggering. Her empathy, professionalism, and gentle reassurance made all the difference. Jen is the kind of nurse who truly changes lives -- I will never forget her kindness. I also want to mention Yuri, the receptionist who checked me in. She was polite, professional, and very pleasant -- a great first impression at check-in. Unfortunately, the experience at discharge was very different. The receptionist seated on the right side of the front desk was extremely rude and dismissive to my mom when she came to pick me up after surgery. When I came across Dr Barry Marks and looked at his credentials I knew instantly he was the THE ONE I was looking for. I phoned his office and he told me he could see me that same day. I couldn't have found a better Doctor to handle my injuries. He spent 2 hours with me going over the details of the accident and examining me. I was indeed injured with not only whiplash but also a concussion. The following visit with him we spent an hour going over an extensive review of my injuries and a plan to get me back to better health. He also told me he would be right next to me through the whole process and also help guide me every step of the way. Boy was that an understatement. He suggested I use an attorney only because of the complexity of my case but if I didn't want to use one he would hold my hand and help me till the end. At the end which was about a year and a half later everything he had said was true. My attorney had handled everything in dealing with the insurance company and making sure all medical expenses where paid for including Dr Marks and I also received compensation for pain and suffering. Unfortunately about 3 weeks ago I was rear ended again and I knew exactly who I was calling. This time both me and my daughter were injured and again he met with both of us that same day.
