I have to update my review. I have a love hate relationship with this restaurant. The food is hands down the best in town. They have a great happy hour but it is like the senior hunger games with old people lined up to fight for tables. Service can be hit or miss, but the dinner menu is awesome! I'm so glad I made the decision to come to Roaring Fork for restaurant week because it instantly became one of my favorite restaurants in the area! Their steaks are cooked perfectly with a great sear and I absolutely loved the pecan pie and gelato. Probably my favorite dessert that I've had in Phoenix! They also have a delicious green chili Mac and cheese and gigantic 12 oz burger that's only $10 during happy hour! I highly recommend coming here! I've eaten in the bar area when I'm there but if you'd like to sit in the main dining area, your best bet is to make a reservation ahead of time since the wait time can get pretty lengthy. read more

This has become my favorite Happy Hour spot in Scottsdale. Walking distance from the house. The bar is usually crowded but we always manage to find a couple seats within about 5 minutes. We go for the $5 martinis and stay for the food. When you get a martini, make sure to ask for a cocktail onion! They marinate them in the restaurant and they are phenomenal! I wish I could buy a bottle of them and take them home! The green chili pork is tender and the warm tortillas make it a finger food. The queso has the pork too and we end up getting both appetizers because we can't choose just one. During the summer, their happy hour is every day until 10:00 pm! We had reservations for three and ended up having almost a 25 minute wait past our reservation time. It wouldn't have been so bad if the bar wasn't packed, as we couldn't find a place to sit. We were seated in the back next to what appeared to be a private dining area (not really private as it only had a curtain). There seemed to be quite the loud, drinking group partying it up, which was a distraction to our dining experience. On the other side of us, there was another large 8-person party that was also quite loud - probably trying to talk over the noise of the other party. That being said, there were three in our party. We ordered the duck breast, the boneless buttermilk fried chicken and the cedar plank salmon. All three were amazing and each of us cleaned our plates. The service was on point and the quality of the meal was perfect for the price point. I would definitely go back - however I hope if I do, there are no loud large parties thinking they are the only ones in the restaurant. read more

Happy hour was hopping today, unlike last week. Bartender Ryan wasn't there, but no worries, as Stefan was just as able and gracious. I selected the cab to go with the RF "Big Ass Burger," even though I wanted to try the zin. Did I choose wrong? I'll try the zin next time. Since I enjoyed the chile-pistachio bread last week, I asked if I could have the commercially-made burger bun swapped out with the new-recipe chile-pecan bread. No problem. Ordered it medium, no pickles. By the time I had thought to take photos of the burger (I was starving so I dug right in!), the scene was a mess! From the very first slice, the longhorn cheddar-topped patty crumbled into many pieces- I kept wishing I had a spoon to scoop them up! No matter, as it was still a wonderful meal- loved the smoked bacon, and the chipotle mayo worked well both as a burger condiment and as a dip for the wonderfully crisp and seasoned fries (see photos). If only there are more happy hour meal selections (only two, excluding the salads) for me to enjoy. Guess I'll be forced to try the Huckleberry bread pudding with creme anglaise and vanilla bean ice cream next time... woe is me ;) read more

Based on the Roaring Fork happy hour last night, I had to update my review, and it was another 5 star experience for sure. I met my boyfriend there around 6pm, and we waited just about 10 minutes until two seats opened up at the bar... The entire bar area was packed though - it's no secret how fantastic the happy hour prices are at RF! The bar service was perfect - (thanks Ryan) and for a total of $33 before tip, we walked out full from the following: -a glass of Cab Sauv ($5) -a field greens salad with fresh beets, apples, candied walnuts and goat cheese ($5) -fish tacos that came with avocado, tomato, lettuce, salsa ($7) -a half roasted chicken that came with beans, tortillas, avocado, and additional garnish ($12) We were completely satisfied, ambiance was fun (we made friends with our neighbors on either side), and food was phenomenal! Helpful hint we were told for next time - if you order the salad and ask them to split it in the kitchen, they will put a full goat cheese fritter on both plates! I've had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious meal at the Roaring Fork in Austin and this one, conveniently located across from my Hotel (Firesky) is just as good. Our party of 8 started with lots of apps. Everyone was super psyched to try the green chili, but I just found it so-so. However, the mac and cheese was unbelievable. Unfortunately, I don't think many other people at the table got to it because I devoured most of it. Oops. Their guac totally hit the spot too. I was pretty full after the apps, but still had some fish tacos coming my way. Three generous sized flour tacos filled with fish, veggies and rice. I found more room in my tummy for these! It turned out I needed to find additional room in my stomach because the manager was sweet enough to send out a few comp desserts for our table. You can't go wrong with any of their desserts, but the pineapple cake (apparently a favorite of the Manager's wife) was the best. Days later I'm still full from my delicious meal at Roaring Fork, but I'm looking forward to filling up again the next time I'm in Phoenix. read more

This place is awesome, they keep the menu short and sweet and not complicated. Took my girls parents here awhile back and they loved it, which is exactly why we're back. The server was amazing and was very enthused at everything she was telling us. It was my gf bday and she made sure we had a great experience. Would definitely go back and try more things on the menu. Meats cooked perfectly. Lots of flavor and seasoning. Had a braised short rib with a pepper demi. It was really good.... The surprise of the evening was the mash..... Love the horseradish in the mash! So good, such a nice contrast to the rest of the plate. I took off one star for two things: 1) cold creme brulee, I prefer it a bit warm... Eh to each his own. 2)Caesar salad as tangy but so blah. Like buffet line salad. Croutons were homemade but they were burned. Then the romaine was cut gigantic. Had to use my butter knife. Disappointing because it's meant for butter, just like steak knife is for steak.... I've been here twice. One of those times was on KETO. It was a good experience both times. The experience was great both times. The parking is a breeze and the overall service is great. The ambience is nice. The prices are good. I always start with a cocktail which are all pretty amazing. The Manhattan packs a punch and the Peach Margarita was pretty good too. Servers are always attentive. I did not get a drink the second time. Green Chili port was great with the perfect level of flavor. I got the filet both times, the second time I got the 12 ounce which felt more like a 16 ounce :) Others on my table got the salmon and ribs. Both raved about those. The street corn was great and we shared. I highly recommend this place for a date night or a group as well. read more

There's a learning curve to this place - for one, get there early, otherwise you will have to hover and then vulture down upon someone who is just leaving (I was not prepared for this during my first attempt of dining here, but came prepared - and at 4:30 pm - the following night and was able to score a seat outside on the patio). The patio tables are only four tops, which made me feel like a little bit of an ahole since I was in Scottsdale on a work trip and was here solo, but c'est la vie; it was gorgeous out and the outside space was perfect. I arrived with plenty of time to enjoy happy hour, and decided on the green salad and grilled fish tacos to eat, as well as a glass (which quickly turned to two glasses - hello, I was eating alone) of the $5 happy hour Cabernet Sauvignon, which was delicious. The salad with feta and candied walnuts ($6 for HH prices) arrived first and was delicious, followed by the grilled fish tacos ($10) that were some of the best I've ever had. I do wish I had the huckleberry margarita, as basically everyone around me ordered it and it looked AMAZING. Because I was there by myself and everyone probably assumed I was stood up on a Tinder date, I played into it by ordering the creme brulee for dessert, which had a perfect hard shell and was absolutely delicious (and well worth the four miles I had to run the next day to work it off). The service was also good - my server was attentive (probably pitying the fact that I was eating there alone, so he was very quick to offer a second glass of wine and dessert menu), and to bring me the check at the end of my meal. For everything I ordered, because of the phenomenal happy hour prices, my bill was $36, with an $8 tip, I ate all of that for under $50 (not sure if I should be proud of that or not). This will definitely be in my rotation for future business trips to Scottsdale, especially now that I know it does pay to get there early. read more

Had a great time here last night, despite there being no Valet for some reason? Anyway, this is a great place to bring out-of-towners, it has a chic southwest feel, while remaining upscale and impressive. The spicy shrimp appetizer was perfect, salad was crisp and fresh, my chicken was succulent, and a guest had the "Big Ass Burger" - which is a Roaring Fork tradition. Highly recommend this to people visiting the Scottsdale area. The happy hour menu is legendary and so locals know that during the summer we've got unlimited hours of Sun & Mon to enjoy without waiting in line with the hoards of snowbirds. The bar food menu has remained the same for over the last decade with the Big Ass Burger remaining front and center. Whatever you may believe is the "best" burger in the Valley...you can't cast your vote until you taste the Big Ass. French fries are likewise superior, evidencing some fine oil that bring them to a crispy brown that my wife dies for. The flat-bread with chicken was a little heavy on the cheese...but who can really complain about that? The crust is perfect...a balance in between pizza and pie. The huckleberry margarita remains a classic, especially good if you like frozen which I normally don't choose but make an exception for this one. Service was decent if not spectacular, but another reason to show up when it is still 105 degrees outside at 9 PM and avoid the crowds. read more

Came here for my birthday dinner with family and was disappointed with the service. We made a reservation and still had to wait about 10 minutes. I wouldn't have minded if our waiter made up for it in excellent service. Unfortunately he wasn't friendly, attentive, or patient at all. Each time he stopped by our table I felt rushed. He seemed annoyed when we asked questions and rushed through the specials. Even though it was mentioned to him that it was my birthday, we had to specifically ask about the dessert menu. I didn't end up ordering dessert because the vibe just wasn't comforting. The food we did order was quite good but it would have been a much better dining experience with better service. This was our first dining experience at the Roaring Fork and some of our family drove all the way from Surprise, AZ to attend. This was a BIG miss for us.. took a chance and pivoted from our regular Steak 44 to Roaring Fork for our special Christmas family dinner ..at first glance the dining room was nice and cozy with candles etc..however they sat us in the back of the restaurant with a uneven rickety table (we had reservations) strike 1. The server Dan was the only thing awesome about this place .. First course chips ,guacamole and queso .. they are cheap with the chips small funnel cone of chips.. drinks we ok.. Here's the rub is for me.. if you have a steak on the menu at $55.00 please do it well.... the steaks we ordered tasted like liquid smoke. Roaring fork please do your patrons a favor when serving a sub par steak add the sides and bread service at no cost you are NOT steak 44 .. far from it.. Good times - the Old West meets Happy Hour. We love Roaring Fork's Happy Hour. They do happy hour for a few hours each evening, but on Sunday and Monday nights it lasts all night long. Their huckleberry margaritas are awesome. It's a frozen margarita topped off with a luscious huckleberry puree (think purple tart blueberry?). The bar menu is one of the best too. My favorite is the Big Ass Burger. It's a huge burger loaded with smoked bacon and cheddar cheese. It's served with a kettle of crispy fries. Another appetizer we really like is their Green Chile pork stew. It's served hot in a personalized kettle, covered with melted Jack cheese and served with warm buttered tortillas on the side. Roaring Fork's entire menu is a blend of comfort food and Southwestern flavors. The happy hour is moderately priced, not cheap, but given the quality and quantity of the food, it's still a great value. read more

I had the trout topped w/ almonds & capers and a side of cilantro lime rice. The other entrees ordered were oven roasted jumbo shrimp; & braised beef short rib. -This is bargain eating at its finest. Our server, nick, was helpful, entertaining and very professional. I ordered the kettle green chili which was mouthwatering and their fish special which was a halibut that was cooked to perfection! My bf who is a true steak connoisseur said his filet mignon was one of the best steaks he's ever had. Probably more like 3.5 stars for us but given the service and abundance of outdoor dining, I rounded up. I think one issue is that I may have ordered wrong (probably missed out on a great burger or steak). They have multiple large, cooled, outdoor areas. The beer selection is just ok- but that may be east-coast bias. Our server was very friendly. The pork chop was huge but undercooked c/w how it was ordered- likely because of just how thick it was. I was a bit disappointed with my Nashville chicken tenders- more soggy than crispy- but the chicken quality was good. The stand out, by far, was the green chili pork appetizer which I could have made a meal out of- delicious. I would return to try other options. read more

Oh Roaring Fork, Roaring Fork - where art thou, Roaring Fork? North of the Scottsdale Fashion Square lies Roaring Fork. I came here for dinner with co-workers and the experience was fabulous! It is an intimate, cozy, romantic restaurant. I started off with the Huckleberry Margarita - it was pretty strong and couldn't finish it, but highly recommend! The complimentary cornbread was moist and warm and full of goodness. The fresh guacamole and chips, rotisserie chicken flat bread, and the kettle of green chili pork was full of flavor! I was already starting to get full, but I had to order an entrée - the sugar-cured duck breast with green chili mac & cheese! So much food, not enough room in my tummy! You have to order the duck and the mac & cheese - it was the highlight of the night for me! It was ridiculously yummy... I wish I saved room for dessert, but I didn't. Normally, very rare as I usually save room for dessert. This time, the food was just so good that I couldn't stop. I did not want to stop! Is Your Time Together Precious?Disappointed And Sad. So my wife and I are definitely "foodies". Dining experiences are one of our most favorite and enjoyable things we love to share with our precious time. To understand our "Disappointment And Sadness", is to understand how our, and your " together time" and or "Date Night" is so important/PRECIOUS to those of us who work hard, do very well, and  are intentional to schedule time together to stay connected. So....blah blah blah, you may or may not give a crap, but should you understand this perspective, then you can understand our excitement when we chose Roaring Fork for our long overdue night out. Hired a private car service ($300+) to get us from our downtown Encanto home to Scottsdale so we could enjoy a couple bottles of wine and an after dinner cocktail while being safe and responsible. 715 reservation, seated right on time. Austin, our server greeted us and we got our wine ordered, and within 5 minutes or so took our appetizer order. Green chili pork and green chili cornbread OMG, both were amazingly delicious! We stopped eating at about half done to save ourselves for what we thought was going to be just as an amazing salad and main course. Well, this is where things went weird. Privacy curtains next to our table were closed, but we were able to see that a large table was being set up. 40 minutes later after asking for our salad, a warm flat ceaser with rock hard croutons was delivered. At 845 we had still not recieved our Sugar Cured Duck Breast or our Beef Short Ribs and side of green chili mac and cheese main entree which had been ordered roughly an hour earlier. Austin our server basically vanished!??? So at 9 o'clock, upset and now embarresed because my wife was getting ready to speak to the server and manager, I got up and walked out. I have learned over time that it is just better for all involved  to do that rather than be a part of the complaint conversation. 10 minutes later, my wife came outside, the manager told her " you have no bill", and that was that. Our dinner and leftover apps were boxed but left behind. Free meal is not what we are looking for. Oddly, no managment explaination or appology. So , BEWARE, TRY THIS PLACE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Service was great! I'm pregnant so they created a mocktail for me which was pretty good. I ordered the duck breast with brussel sprouts. It was absolutely delicious. My husband has the split half roasted chicken. He said it was good but nothing that he can't wait to order again. We also had the chicken beignets. That was yummy! Would order again. My Babe and I came her last week for dinner. We arrived at 7.00 at got a great booth where we could people watch. The decor was very trendy and modern. Very cool. We started the meal with their famous Green Chile Pork with Tortillas....It was awesome. This is a must try dish. For our dinner, we had the Duck Breast and Pork Chop. Both dishes were excellent. For desert, we had their Pecan Pie and Warm Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream. Both were average. OK, but not outstanding. The service was excellent. In addition to loving mac anc cheese, I love all things with cheese in them, so this was perfect. Dinner - I had the filet mignon. Come on, it was on someone else's tab, I had to do it. It was a piece of meat and nothing else. It was cooked to perfection, so I was extremely happy. Dessert, well the chocolate cake was meh.
