The Roaring Fork Happy Hour is a crazy thing. The regulars and staff take it very seriously. The place opens at 4pm and there are scores of patrons already waiting in the lobby. When the bartender is ready for the hoards to enter he rings a big cowbell to begin the giant rush for seats. I expect Pavlov's dog would also be salivating after the cowbell wails it's feeding signal. There is a reason for all the excitement. RF serves up generous pour cocktails and really good eats for virtually no money during happy hour. They have a $6 Manhattan that lights my candle. As far a food goes, try the kettle of green chili pork for a mere $8. It would feed a third world family for a week If you get there much past 4:30 you can kiss the bar and happy hour good bye. It will be full.. This happy hour is no secret and you will be beat to the tables by those with no job. if you're lucky enough to get a seat during happy hour, consider yourself lucky and enjoy the deliciciousness. We had reservations for dinner at Roaring Fork but we wanted to sit on the patio and it was first come, first served. We opted to cancel our table and sit on the patio where we could partake of happy hour. Happy hour is available only on the patio or bar area. We usually make a point of dining at Roaring Fork when we are in town. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table outside but it was worth the wait. It was happy hour all day on Monday. Came here for happy hour yesterday and enjoyed my meal. Happy hour is only in the bar area (self seating) and they had a great selection of food and drinks. It was a Wednesday around 6pm and it was completely full. I ordered their big a** burger and it really was big lol. Definitely could be shared. It was a solid burger! Only negative was they had a lot of flies. I saw at least 5. I was swatting to protect my food and I noticed a couple of flies feasting over some food that was waiting to be served. Things have changed since we dined here last. They play hard rock music and I mean hard rock "Highway to Hell" type of songs. I myself find it hard to eat or hear each other talking. On the spur of the moment we decided to go out to a steakhouse, and this place was the only one out of the 9 I called that didn't have an hour or more wait or reservations only available after 9PM. So off we went! When we arrived we found a classic, well l-appointed "wood and leather" steakhouse with a massive fireplace in one wall. It looked and smelled amazing... the smell of the fireplace was comforting and familiar. What I didn't realize is this restaurant is tucked into the ground floor at one end of a massive office complex! It seems like not all that many people know about it... so there was plenty of seating inside and outside. I just want to point out that while there was seating available, it wasn't crowded. Just a steady stream of people coming and going. Just sayin'... I don't see this place closing any time soon. The food was amazing. The price was reasonable (overall, see the "complaints" section below for more detail on the price). I had the bone-in ribeye and it was done perfectly. The roasted Brussels sprouts were delicious. The dirty mashed potatoes were perfectly starchy, fatty, fresh, and cheesy... and the bacon bits were just the right crunch to serve as a textural counterpoint to the potato and cheese! They don't remember what the family ordered but we all loved all of it. We traded bites all around and everyone loved all the food. There's nothing on that menu that I would question... just go for it. The service was really good, and the ambiance was comfortable steakhouse fireside casual... the only complaints I had were twofold: 1) The chairs they have at the tables on the patio. I am a big feller... 6'4" 325... and the bars that form the sides of the chair arms and back dug painfully into the sides of my legs and backside. Not their fault I'm a giant, but "hospitality" should include making sure your body is as comfy as your tastebuds. If you have a badonkadonk, be prepared to either have a literal "edge of your seat" experience or ask the staff for one of the chairs from the dining room. 2) I ordered a rye Manhattan, and it was DELICIOUS! It also looked like the bartender used a thimble instead of a jigger. "Small" doesn't quite convey how the 1/2" of liquid looked in the liqueur glass they used to serve it. But... they charged full price, the same I'd expect to pay for the bodacious and delicious rye Manhattans at Churchill's Cigars at Camelback and 44th St. Like I said... it was _really_ tasty... but the value was just not there. Some of their drink specials were cheaper... but definitely not their standard bar drinks. I would give them 4.8 out of 5 just off this one experience! read more

Roaring Fork is a great place to go for any occasion, although I really like it as an option for Father's Day or a dinner celebrating a special man in your life due to the tasteful masculine decor and hearty menu. My husband and I have been multiple times, and although the quality of the normal dining experience has inevitably decreased a bit during the pandemic, they are doing a good job. On our most recent visit, we shared the green chili pork appetizer, which is always a must because it is delicious and packs so much flavor! If you like a bit of spice you will not be disappointed. For dinner, my husband had the dry-aged bone-in prime New York strip. He requested it be prepared medium rare and he got an over-medium, with areas that were closer to well. Normally he would have sent it back, but the meat was still very tender and the steak was so well seasoned (and drenched in shallot butter) that it was still enjoyable. I don't know how I feel about a $65 steak being over cooked, but again, trying to give grace because of the effect the pandemic has had on restaurants across the valley. I had the boneless buttermilk fried chicken that looked better than it tasted. The cook on the chicken was perfect, but it was truly flavorless-- I had to sprinkle some table salt on it which is something I never do. All of the sides we tasted, from the mashed potato that came with my entree, to the Mexican street corn and sautéed spinach and garlic, were very good. I think my next meal there will be the green chili pork appetizer paired with the Mexican street corn, because those two items were the best and would make a good combo for dinner. I am still giving four stars whereas I'd normally give three for two of the main dishes being a bit off, as well as for our waitress not really being "on it", but overall I believe this to be a great restaurant that will bounce back soon! I told the waitress about the heat and the manager came over and says there's nothing he could do about it, It's just the way the building was designed. The food was great. Service is great. I just could not go back in the place and sit in that area. It was so hot. It's 109 in Phoenix and it was cooler outside than it was where they sat us. Hadn't been here for a number of years so during AZ Restaurant Week made a visit with my niece. We loved the truffle fried, best halibut ever! And short ribs were delicious. First timer here. Meeting friends that swear by the Happy Hour. Most especially the Big A$$ burger. Okay... I'm in. Opens at 4:00 pm. Perfect. We'll meet then. A Saturday. Pull in at exactly 4:03pm. Open the door. It's packed. How does this happen when you don't open until 4:00? Did manage to find a table in the " lobby" area. The bar area was completely full. The food/drinks/service amazing. No complaints. I will be back... however; I really want to know what time I can actually enter this establishment and get my seat. We had only a so-so experience. We went in a weekday, and some of the plates were great and some not. The spicy Nashville style chicken was fantastic. The duck was a little too rare and very chewy--fat wasn't rendered at all. They immediately offered a replacement dish. I would say the wedge salad had so much dressing it wasn't pleasant to eat. Highly recommend this restaurant located in the Oldtown Scottsdale area! Has a southwest feel that compliments the menu. The service was amazing! A starter or appetizer to not miss is the "Queso con Puerco", The queso was mixed in with the pork pieces and the tortilla chips had a sprinkle of cheese to enhance the flavors. The main meal that I recommend is the "Rotisserie Spit-Roasted Half Chicken". Wood grilled flavor that gives that fresh off the grill flavors! The side dish was mash potatoes. It was in the ground level of an office building so I didn't have high expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. The inside was upscale looking, don't come in with a tee and jeans. Happy hour was at high tops in front of the bar so we quickly grabbed one as the place was already full at 4:05. We came here twice while on vacation, the first time we had the big ass burger from the happy hour menu and split it between the two of us. That and the fries was enough for us. Next time around we split the chicken flatbread and Caesar salad. The flatbread was good but lacked a little something. The salad was good. Drove in to Arizona from California and wanted to have dinner at a nice steakhouse. Checked out some of the reviews in the area and we decided to go with "Roaring Fork". Let me tell you.... This place was AMAZING! It's a beautiful restaurant! Great Atmosphere! But enough about that! My son and I chose the special menu, which came with a 3 course meal. We had the Filet Mignon that came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was cooked Perfectly and was Absolutely Delicious! The salads and the desert on the special menu were also delicious! My Husband went with the 22oz RibEye and he was just "wowing" every time he had a bite. He said it was also cooked perfectly and that it was one of the best he had ever had. I looked over at him and he was already biting off of the bone...lol Compliment to the CHEF! The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Our waiter was very polite and friendly. Even the young man that was collecting our empty dishes was very polite and attentive. Just great service! I highly recommend it to anyone passing thru Scottsdale or even locals who have not been. So I thought we do give it another try! Booked a table for Happy Hour only to learn only in bar area ok. We started off with a pre dinner drink of a manhattan. I believe it was in their happy hour menu so it was just $5. No appetizers for us this time. Dinner was pork tenderloin with Street corn. The tenderloin was as the name implies; tender. And the street corn was very tasty. There was a glaze over everything that perfectly added to the meal. I've had this selection before and was glad they still had it on the menu. Wine was a Zin called Klinker Blink. That's a good selection. I had high expectations of this place based on reviews. I have to say the food was very disappointing. We had a party of 6 and didn't have reservations so instead of wait we sat in the "bar/side area." The service there was spectacular! I'd give 10 stars for service. Our waitress was beyond amazing, attentive, friendly, and helpful. This was during restaurant week but we didn't realize it. The waitress suggested that menu as it would only be available for a few more days. We started with various appetizers and also each had the chicken soup. The soup looked incredible but was very bland and disappointing. The short ribs again looked fabulous but were full of non rendered fat. The sea bass was okay, but not much flavor. What started off as a great 19th anniversary dinner, quickly snowballed into the wife and I questioning what the heck are we doing here? Was seated in the (almost) back corner of the dining room and when the bus boy went to reset the tables and chairs back to normal (after a large party just left), he closed a floor-to-ceiling curtain that rested against my chair...um no, I was not sitting here. When I told the staff that I didn't like having a huge curtain wall brushing up against me causing claustrophobia while I ate, they couldn't understand why I wanted it open (see pix) and opened it back up amid some protest. Note, this all transpired while the wife was in the bathroom. As my wife got back to the table, she said she overheard the staff complaining in another language (a language my wife is fluent in) about some guy's gripe about the curtain being closed...that guy being me. As for the food, the complimentary bread was better than most free bread at sit-down restaurants...two types were in the basket, one of which was a slightly spicy jalapeño bread. The guacamole and tortilla chips appetizer we ordered was a nice compliment to the jalapeno bread. For the main course, I opted for the "special," which is a printed insert located in inside the menu. For $55 bucks, I got to choose a 3-course meal: an appetizer, main course and desert. For the appetizer, I selected the tortilla soup, which had a dark and rich broth with the rest of the components (chicken, avocado, cheese, cilantro and tortilla strips) scooped into the center of the bowl. And while the broth was perfect, the appetizer would have tasted much better had all the components had been cooked together to allow all those wonderful flavors to mix together. While the presentation was a perfect 10 (see pix), all of the components lacked a cohesiveness which could have made the soup a perfect 10 as well! I ordered the 16oz Delmonico Rib eye steak and was disappointed from the first bite. According to the waitress, all the steaks are cut in-house, including mine. Whoever cut my steak must've been their first day on the job because my steak seriously looked like and had the texture of London broil (see pix). There was no marbling whatsoever, only a small strip of fat on the end. To compound a felony, the steak knife I received, was dull and literally could not cut the steak. I kid you not, my butter knife had a more serrated edge and did a better job of cutting thru the meat. Long story short, the waitress allowed me to switch things up and recommended I try the "Big @$$" burger, which was one of the better burgers I've had. And while the waitress allowed me to go from a $55 plate to a $15 plate, they still charged me $9 for the first course tortilla soup which (while fair) was a bit of a cheap shot and did nothing to rectify the situation. On a side note, I guess I can't complain too much as we did score a free desert because it was our anniversary. One other minor complaints is that for as upscale and romantic as other Yelper's say this place is, there is a lot of alcohol flowing and some of the patrons were a bit obnoxious (drunk) and kind of killed the romantic flair of this joint. Will definitely go back and give this place another shot, but will be sure to first do our research before placing an order. read more

I have been here several times for happy hour and finally made it to dinner with 2 other couples. As usual, the ambiance is nice and cocktails are good. Also as usual, the service was NOT great. I had to ask 4 separate times from 3 different people to get lemon for my water. The drinks and food came out very slow. After we paid, we were ignored completely. No water refills, etc. Everyone agreed their food was good and no problems with the order except being out of the fish my friend ordered. I want to recommend Roaring Fork, but between the inattentiveness and slow service, I think there are better options in the area. read more
