This isn't a review of the food--because I love the food, I truly do. I've been to the food truck before when it was at Farragut. I got there early--I waited 1 hour for food. I enjoyed it so much that I followed RR on social media. I've been to the restaurant. I guess this review is more about their social media, because honestly, I'm livid. At 10:36 AM today, RR tweeted that they were going to be at "#18th & L st." I'm like, okay. At 11:20 AM, I ventured outside, braving a 37 degree wind chill, all so I could buy lots of honey butter chicken sandwiches. So there I am, just waiting. It's 11:27--no one is there. I ask if I'm at the right place--it's my third day working in DC proper, so I want to make sure. No response. 11:49--still no truck. I'm high key annoyed by now but ya girl wanted chicken, so, I waited and tweeted at them again. No response. Finally, at 11:55--35 minutes after I've been waiting out there--they reply. "Hey. Please check 20&L." Not "Sorry for making you wait in the cold--we messed up and we're at 20&L today!" Not "I'm really sorry, there was a miscommunication and we aren't allowed to be there today. Please visit us at 20&L." Just "Hey. Please check 20&L." It honestly just read to me like, yeah, you're cold and probably annoyed but we don't care lol, just walk over here and wait at the back of the line AGAIN for another hour while we make this food lololol bye sis. I'll admit, thirty some odd minutes after I replied to them basically saying "lol what a waste of life, but i have better things to do and i am cold," they said "Sorry to hear, hope to see you again soon, stay warm." But I'm still peeved. It should have been immediate. This is a truck where if you're not in line as soon as it opens, you're going to wait in like for like an hour or so. I just feel disregarded. They replied to me at 11:55 to check 20&L--they didn't even make a general post until 12:23. That's insane. The twitter needs to post and pin a schedule of where each truck is going to be every week (see @swizzlerfoods). They need to apologize immediately when they mess up & be responsive. Drivers should know where to go--and if something arises, which is okay, it needs to be communicated back to the social media manager ASAP. Continue posting schedules daily--but it just keeps being posted so late. 10:36 is ridic when most trucks open at 11. The photos they add to the twitter are amazing tho! Anyways, I'm still super cold and salty--except not chickeny goodness salty. Imma log off. read more

YUM. So yummy!!! Came here after reading about it in the Washington Post and it did not disappoint! Got the honey butter fried chicken sandwich and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich! Both were so good but the Nashville got chicken sandwich had to have been my favorite - so much flavor, so juicy, the right amount of heat (medium), and the slaw was so good! & both sandwiches each had 2 pieces of fried chicken!! For sides, I got the Mac and cheese and potato salad which were amazing as well! The only thing is the wait - we waited for about an hour before getting out food but I think it was worth the wait! read more

This is for the brick and mortar location. Definitely no frills but that doesn't mean not delicious. Got there at 3pm on a Saturday and expected it to be dead but there was a line the entire time. Line moves a bit slow but it's a small team cranking out delicious food. We ordered the honey butter and the Nashville hot both medium spice level and then fries to share. Both had great flavor, though I preferred the Nashville hot. Additionally, I like spicy food and went with medium for first time but would consider going to hot next time. Fries were a bit like warm but overall good and it was so busy so don't fault them. A+ choice - will be back! read more

Food truck yumminess. With free ranged chickens that then get battered in buttermilk and fried... And slathered in buffalo sauce. Yes. It really does get all over. Need more napkins. And a side of fries. So many fries. He basically just filled the rest of my box with fries. So much food. Didn't need the fries... So first you need to find the food truck. Then hope there isn't a line... Which when I went, it was raining and there was still a line! What ?! The chicken is fried and yet still moist. Yes!!! Delish! The buffalo sauce was good But probably not needed. They do have a plain option and I think there was a honey version too. The bread was nothing special. Fries were normal and no complaints. I heard a lot about Roaming Rooster especially around the time of the Popeye's chicken sandwich hype, so I decided to give it a try. Man, oh man! It was definitely worth all the hype! This was hands down the best chicken sandwich that I've ever had. I ordered the honey butter sandwich. The bread was toasty and buttery. The honey butter sauce was sweet and tasty. On my first visit, the bread and fries were my main problem-- both a little moist from steam, but the chicken was warm and crispy. Honey butter was pretty subtle, but I guess that's better for my health? On my return visit, I tried to work around my problem by opting for just the boneless fried chicken with a side of fries; much better batch of the latter with all of them crispy and evenly seasoned, but the chicken was lukewarm and not as crispy. My order from yesterday was ruined when I discovered a large beetle/bug in my coleslaw. I have attached photos of the bug found near the cabbage and jalapenos. It was disgusting. In response to management: the bug wasn't on top of the slaw, it was in the very bottom. It was thoroughly mixed-in with all the individual components. Leading me to believe that the bug has long been in there and was in fact present during the prep stage. Your apology doesn't really mean much, you've done nothing to make this right when I could easily call 311 about your license over this. Additionally, the casual attitude with which you suggested that this couldn't be your food when I posted my review under the wrong location tells me you don't feel truly liable for this. Food truck or not, people should know that when they buy a meal from your truck they can expect to eat something clean. Using the truck as an excuse doesn't fly when I know damn well you have to follow health codes in both your brick and mortar location and this food truck. read more

The Roaming Rooster. I walked down Food Truck Row (the food trucks that were out at Gallery Place) and saw this truck. The honey butter chicken sandwich sounded amazing. I envisioned crispy fried chicken breast dunked in a gooey honey butter sauce. The pics on Yelp didn't make it clear what the honey butter sauce was, but it was clear that the Honey Butter Chicken sandwich was the way to go. Further, there was a group of about 6 chatty women headed to the truck, talking about the sandwich. I sat down to taste the sandwich. I was underwhelmed. I want fresh fried chicken and not previously cooked fried chicken. My sandwich wasn't doused in the honey butter. It was an after thought on the bread. Can you imagine my disappointment? Rock Salt seafood truck is by far the best truck that has done fried food perfectly on a food truck. I'm sure with more honey butter sauce on freshly fried chicken would have done wonders for the sandwich. Like the chicken, the twice fried fries weren't crispy and lukewarm. One of my favorite food trucks in DC! Every Tuesday and Thursday this one stops outside the Capitol South Metro Station, which is only about a 5 minute walk from where I work. The have a fried chicken, buffalo chicken, and honey butter fried chicken. The regular fried chicken was crisp, juicy, and simple. I'm not usually a fan of buffalo, since it can sometimes overpower whatever it's served with, but their chicken was still surprisingly tasty. The honey butter is my favorite - you get the saltiness from the fried chicken with subtle hints of sweetness from the honey for blast of flavor. I recently tried their Tennessee hot - you can choose how spicy you want it; at first I was worried it would be too spicy even at mild, but I really enjoyed the extra heat. I recommend their fries, which I suspect are fried twice and/or in chicken fat for a boost of flavor, especially dipped in any of their sauces. My only critique is I wish they would salt the fries more evenly. I also recommend adding slaw to any of their sandwiches for more freshness. Service can be unpredictable, especially during the lunch rush. I've waited 5-30 min for my order, but even during the long days it was still worth it. The staff is quite friendly and gave my friend extra fries when they messed up his order. 10/10 would definitely go again read more

Short and sweet: Honey Butter Fried Chicken sandwich ($9) is so delicious. It's juicy, it's fried but not soggy or unhealthy tasting. It's a wonderful sandwich. I wish the actual chicken was a bit thicker though. The second half of my sandwich was basically bread. Which, btw, the bread is really good too. The honey is perfectly spread on the bread and comes with Jalapeño Cole Slaw ON the sandwich. The slaw is very easy to remove if you decide you hate it. Roaming Rooster was the food truck option at Altas Brewing one Sunday, and I knew my friends and I would be ordering lunch from there as soon as we read "FRIED CHICKEN". We had four options to choose from: the original, buffalo, honey butter, and the original with jalapeno slaw. My eyes fixated on "HONEY BUTTER". Sign me up please! My honey butter chicken sandwich took up the entire to-go container. The two halves of the sandwich were STUFFED with fried chicken, cheddar cheese, and slaw. This sandwich meant business. A couple of tasty bites in, I was most impressed with the fried chicken itself - crispy outside, moist inside. There's nothing worst than a dried out bird, and unluckily this was not the case at Roaming Rooster. My only critique: I would have loved more honey butter drenched on my chicken. It most likely would have resulted in a few foodgamsic eye rolls. Bonus: I stole two bites of my fiance's buffalo fried chicken sandwich, and I the combination of chicken, buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, and slaw would be my pick for next time. Roaming Roosters definitely lived up to the hype! This place makes Chickfila look like nothing and that's saying a lot. I ordered the regular fried chicken sandwich as it came with coleslaw. The chicken was fried very well and tasted great. Although the onion taste from the slaw was a bit much, I think it added a nice creamy crunch to the sandwich that complemented the bread and chicken well. This time I deviated from my usual Honey Butter Chicken sandwich with fries to the Chicken with Coleslaw and fries due to pregnancy issues with consuming bread. There is a ton of coleslaw which alone tastes DELICIOUS and I love this ratio of slaw to chicken so this will have to be my new go to meal. $10.50 including fries and the photo I took is after I devoured about 75% of my food already. We stopped by today because we saw they were giving away teenage mutant ninja turtle hats if you purchased a meal so we were sold. I got the Michelangelo which is their honey chicken with fries. The chicken is pretty good. The fries are good too. I got the sriracha mayo and it's super yummy. The chicken isn't outstanding so I wouldn't come back for that. It is all white meat though and has good seasoning. I got it as a sandwich and am jut eating the chicken out of it. The honey mustard chicken sand which with cold slaw ands down the best chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life. There was so much flavor to the chicken from the batter and the cole slaw went so well with it. For $15 for an extra side of fries and a chicken sandwich with fries it was a pretty decent deal. The fries were fantastic too as they were the perfect kind with some flavor. The guy that took out order was new so one of the guys outside of the truck that worked there helped us out and made sure we got everything that we needed! Instead, they try to make up for it by drenching the chicken in sauce? That does not make a good chicken sandwich. No one wants bland chicken, no matter how much sauce you add. It needs to be seasoned and juicy. To my delight, Roaming Rooster's chicken is well-seasoned and juicy. The jalapeno slaw adds another level of flavor. It's not too spicy but gives the sandwich just a little kick. Love that you can taste the fresh jalapenos and cilantro. The bread is just slightly toasted, and the honey butter adds another layer to the sandwich. The sweetness of the honey butter really nicely balances out the savoriness of the chicken itself. My only critique is that I really don't think the sandwich needs the cheese. It's delicious enough without it. The fries looked great but weren't needed. Last I heard they are working on opening a storefront/restaurant but every time I've visited their mobile food truck when near my job, they NEVER disappoint. Hands down the best chicken sandwiches but my fave is the honey butter chicken less the bread, it's sliced and served with jalapeño slaw and fries. It's phenomenal! I handle spice very well considering I grew up in a household where spice was incorporated into almost every dish. I had ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich and BOY was my mouth on fire - a good fire. I highly suggest not ordering anything spicy off their menu unless your taste buds are used to hot food. Besides the spice, the actual chicken itself was very flavorful. The sandwich was bigger than I imagined and I loved that. I will make sure to order more off their menu soon.
