No tnt platform to watch at home ( its takes 6-8 platforms to watch big 12 bball) so visiting Rj's sports bar filled with tv's & Arizona fans . I heard about it on Az12 podcast with Mike Luke so came to watch the game & have a bite . Arrived before hafftime physical game tied 38/38 plenty of options for seating. Two big rooms one with sofa seating , 3 big round tables for 10-12, big wall sized projection tv with multiple tables 4 people each surround big screen; next long bar area with bar tables facing bar & multiple tv screens. The large menu posed has almost anything imaginable , from appetizers, sandwiches , salads , pizza , even steak or fish dinners . Manager said 100 different bottled beers & 25 different brews on tap . I'm trying the angus sliders recommended by the busy server .The sliders were small of course but tasty on a nice locally homemade rolls with fries hit the spot . As a first timer the crowed was friendly included families all jubilant wildcat fans it seemed this afternoon . To view sports, on multiple screens , with a big menu & 125 brew choices , like the Wildcats 22-0 , it's a winner! Texas Toast just $10.99. Chilaquiles refried with 2 eggs came out hard vs sunny runny, and cilantro pico was bit black, had to remove, overall good though $9.99. Great Service, large Draft selection and usually some specials, today a super fine $2 Espresso Cacao Telluride Brewing Co can?!! They don't advertise or make a monthly "Specials" list which could further help business, and the waitress doesn't offer them up when they ask you on seating for drinks orders, so always Ask so you don't miss out! I had a terrible experience at this location. I waited to see an MMA fight there. St first I couldn't get service at all then the bartender started pouring drinks like crazy. I was fine but I wanted something to eat. She told me she was too busy to take my food order. I got up, went to the front door to speak to the manager that I paid to enter to watch MMA fight I asked if I could order Uber eats he refused and I explained the bartender refused to even take my order. There was no forgot to hit the Send button. She never took my order. This bogus reply I received, which is the attached pictures which states I was offered a ride home is a lie. I did need a ride home. I was not intoxicated when I left just extremely disappointed. There was never any yelling I don't know what they're talking about. I guess they had some other people that had the same problem. They're leaving themselves wide open for some serious liability issues for over poured and refusing to serve food. If anybody got a DUI from leaving this place, you need to have your attorney read my post. Servicing liquor requires responsibility. That's something that they seem to lack. Two of us in our group ordered the fish and chips. While the fish looked nice and golden brown in the outside when we bite into it was watery and not white and flaky like fried fish should be. It was edible but barely. This isn't the first place where this has happened. I don't know if the type of fish they're serving or improperly cooked. We ate the Anchor Bar in Tucson last week and the fish there was excellent. The meals the rest of the group ordered we OK at best. This place is not on our list for future meals. read more

Upon entering, passed the cook who was taking a cigarette break..ok, ugh. The long, blond-haired bartender was not around for at least 8-10 minutes. We just waited. She gave us menus, and took drink orders. Asked my hubby what he wanted to order. He told her, then, she walked away, and never asked me what I wanted to order! OK, not coming back...already decided. Food came out in a reasonable time, fries were right out of the oil. Blue burger was tasty to my hubby, but a complete mess to eat, soggy from what seemed to be Blue Cheese dressing, not crumbles, as we expected. The fries were hot, but, not tasty. Old oil? Or seemed like a tiny bit of batter were on them? I didn't like them, nor did I care for the Blue burger, it was overwhelming Blue cheese tasting. THe worst thing was the service from bartender. When we were ready to cash out, we did eventually get the check, after getting her attention..took awhile. Then, we put down the cash immediately, and I even held it up. She just walked past me and decided to talk with her friends instead. Mind you, there were only two other people in the bar, and only one was eating/drinking. No excuse for poor service. This was our first time coming to this establishment. There was a big group of Nebraska fans due to a game and only 1server and 1 bartender. We sat at the bar, no complaints with the bartender. The beer was awesomely cold, ordered basket of fries which were fried and seasoned perfectly. We asked for double fried chicken wings which we sent back due to them not being fried as asked. We ate the fries before the wings came back, this time they were perfectly cooked. We then ordered a basket of chicken tenders with onion rings, they were delicious. I took my mom here to watch an east coast FBS football team game at 4pm on Saturday. Arizona came on at 6pm. The manager was very mean & angry that we wanted our game on just ONE of the dozens of TVs since Arizona was coming on in 2 HOURS. The restaurant half of the bar was completely EMPTY. We were the only ones there except a few people at the bar. When we sat down to order drinks, there were no frozen drinks or frozen anything at the FROZEN cactus. We left after about 10 min to go to a bar down the street. Don't waste your time or money at this place. Edit: We had no idea this place had been on bar rescue (until I read some other reviews) & when we got in the car, the first thing we said to each other was "wow that would be a good candidate for Bar Rescue". After seeing this bar on Bar Rescue, I decided to check it out. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by Chrissy. She was super friendly and gave me a rundown of all the beers they had to offer. I chose the candy bar stout and it was delicious and nice and cold. The food was also very good. I had the carne asada tacos and my friend had the burger. Everything tasted really fresh and came out very quickly. It was really nice talking to Chrissy! She was just very friendly and super attentive! First time in Tucson. To be honest I would've never gone had my hotel restaurant been open so part of this is on Embassy Suites. The bartender was super friendly and nice but forgot to put my order of wings in. I ordered them because apparently nobody working knew if the chili cheese burger was still on special or not. 40 minutes later I asked if my wings had been ordered and they had not. When they did come I ate 1 and knew something was wrong. The smell, taste, and mouthfeel were foul. Was honestly hoping for the best with this place but only ended up staying for one drink with a friend then decided to go elsewhere. Don't really think I'll be giving this place a second chance. OK... so RJ's Replays been re-branded as the Frozen Cactus after being the subject of a Bar Rescue by none other than Jon Taffer. Jon may know bars but he does not know Tucson. A re-branded Tex Mex menu has a lot of competition in the Mexican food mecca that is Tucson. Just sayin... That said, I have been a number of times since the makeover and there may have been changes to the bar and the food, but what I notice most is the owner, Richard, and his dedication to his businees. When it was RJ's he was always there, making his way around and talking to people. He still does that, but you can see the change has motivated him to give his all to this business that he has built. He is always there fixing something or making sure his customers are taken care of. I applaud his dedication to his business. I do like some of the menu changes and mourn the loss of one of the signature items, their chicken tenders/boneless wings. 9 out of 10 people (and that's really all the people I know, me being the 10th) have said that's the item they miss. So Richard, if you're reading, please keep this in mind. The Sizzling Sirloin Torta and Cubana Burger , with chorizo mixed into the ground beef have been me delving into the re-vamped menu. I will say... thumbs up. The Tex Mex theme of the menu includes a lot of spicy things... and most people (including me) adore spicy food. However, there's always that one person (my wife) who does not like spicy food. She is a trooper and will always go here, because she knows I LOVE this place, but I see her searching the menu for something that won't upset her delicate stomach. The craft beer selection has dwindled, but is still heaven for a craft beer fanatic and the drinks are solid. This is still one of my favorite places and the name has changed, the menu re-vamped and cosmetic changes made, I continue to go here because I believe in patronizing local businesses with hard-working, dedicated owners determined to see their business succeed. RJ's may not be the name anymore, but it's still my neighborhood watering hole... and I'll always be a fan, no matter the name. read more

Nice place to come watch a UFC event. I've been here a couple times recently to watch a couple UFC PPVs. It's been a good experience. I don't feel too crammed and there are lots of TVs so you don't get a bad seat. They have a decent beer selection. Can't say I've tried the food. The men's bathroom could be updated but I guess it is kinda small in there lol. I dig that it's got a darker lighting to the place vs what you typically get in a sports bar. read more

Definitely a nice change after Bar Rescue. Seats were limited due to the UFC fight. Our waitress seemed to of forgot about us and was all over the place instead of just in one area. Asked for two waters......still did not receive after 20 minutes. Finally received them and other than that our waitress periodically came by. It's nice seeing the owner being proactive and helping out too. Their chipotle chicken nachos were the bomb! My hubby got the Southwestern burger and said it was pretty good too. Don't forget about all the tv's here. No matter where you look there is a tv in sight. This is a favorite place for us to come watch UFC. Plenty of ice cold beer on tap and food. read more

Wasnt everything it was hyped up to be. Just a regular bar with a nice theme. Bartender was not very knowledgeable. I asked for several types of mixed drinks and she either she didn't have the ingredients or didn't know how to make anything i asked for. I don't know what this place was like before Bar Rescue but it definetly needs an upgrade either in education or a whole new bartender. Barstools are a bit uncomfortable but that's not too big of a deal. The energy and the flow was definitely unbalanced. I may come back if friends invite me out, but I'm new here so i don't have anyone to invite me anywhere, so i am just making my rounds through all the bars and restaurants in Tucson to see where i feel most comfortable. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Came here to watch the football game with my husband and a few friends. Our waitress took our drink order which took 20 minutes to get brought out to us (mind you there were only about 20 people there) followed by making our food order which thankfully came out a little faster however, my husband ordered a burger that was flat out awful, "it tasted like they left the meat out for a few days" was how he described the taste, which they thankfully took off our bill. Our server was very inattentive and made a remark under her breath after speaking to some guests at the table next to us. I've watched the bar rescue episode and unfortunately it seems as though the bar has sunken back into the black hole it was in the episode. Won't be returning, and wouldn't recommend. read more

Thanks to Bar Rescue it has not besn rebranded as something more enlightening and the tacos are now second to none. The bartender (I didn't catch her name but I assume she works most Saturday afternoon) also can make a truly amazing margarite which is a tremendous skill as it is a challenging drink to make just the right way. I've been here probably about 5-10 times and overall a good atmosphere. It's got TVs and is good to watch football games. The food is pretty good, nothing special but tasty. Same with the alcohol. Their beer usually has a long selection to choose from and they change fairly regularly. Usually I get flights when I go to try out the seasonal beers. The staff is 50/50. A couple of them are quick and get everything ready on time and keep up. But the rest.. well there is room for improvement. read more

The Frozen Cactus has been very fair and welcoming to local musicians. I co-host an Open Mic here and am consistently surprised by the care and attention that the owner and staff put into to their clientele, events, and atmosphere. I have seen some negative reviews online, but have also seen the owner reach out time and time again to ask what they can do better, and that's something I personally really value in a business.
