Whoever the waitress is that worked tonight should be FIRED. I come to Riyoma every other week with my kids. We always sit in the back corner room. When the waitress finally greeted us, I told her that I wanted our usual spot and she gave me a hesitant look like she was about to say no. I told her that we sit there all the time so she finally said ok. I ordered immediately because the kids were starving. Chicken katsu, tonkatsu, su udon and a volcano roll. I'd say everything except for the volcano roll came out in a reasonable time. She didn't bring any napkins, so I had to ask. The kids ate all their food while I waited for my roll. No refill on the water until I asked. It took 55 minutes for them to bring my volcano roll. After which my kids were already done eating so they got to sit and watch me eat. Again, asked for napkins and she finally brought them out after my kids were done with dinner. I even had to ask for ginger, wasabi and soy sauce for my roll before she brought it out. Prices went up on the menu. They were already expensive before, now they're just ridiculous. Overall she didn't have a completely bad attitude but she didn't have a pleasant one either. She even charged me a tip on my receipt for when no one else's receipt had a pre charged tip (saw it at the register) Granted, I probably would have left her a $10 tip anyways but I hate that it was pre charged on my receipt like that. They completely lost me as a customer tonight. read more

Most authentic Japanese food in El Paso! The lunch options are very good! The fish is very fresh!

First of all, there is only one chef and one waitress. After ordering our food, it took almost 40minutes for our sushi to be ready! If the food was above average, I would have not left any review and would probably come back. But the food was mediocore and the portion was super small. I am not done! Getting the attention of waitress was so difficult!!!!! The waitress didnt check on our table even a single time while eating. Coming by really good sushi can be a bit of a task when in El Paso. But fear not, your search for an amazing and high quality sushi has come to an end! I was so excited to have discovered this place. The simple decor and the japanese style inspired walls gave the restaurant a very authentic feel. The agedashi tofu was amazing. it was fried perfectly and the seasoned soy sauced balanced the dish. The Crown Roll was amazing. Each bite was full of flavor and had a crispy crucnh to every bite. The sashimi was well worth it. Each bite was full of delight. You can tell that the fish is fresh and high in quality. The only downside about the establisment was the servers. They kind of seemed loss. However, the restaurant may have cut back on servers and had family or family friends hired to help out with the restaurant due to COVID19, so it was not a big deal and totally understandable. This quaint, very clean restaurant served nothing but quality tasty food. I ordered appetizer, main dish and dessert which was all reasonably priced and well worth it. Even though it was packed during lunch hour which included regulars (hearing chef and waitress converse with them) and professionally dressed customers I did not feel underdressed or uncomfortable in my shorts and flip flops. This would be a great place for dates or bringing family and friends to. There are 2 tv's on the wall so if you are sitting at the sushi bar so ou can catch up on sports or news. This place is awesome. We've been there twice in the past two weeks, and can't wait to go back again! First of all, the atmosphere is very calm. The decor is understated, but orderly, and there are actually multiple rooms. (I think the low tables in the other rooms are for large parties. We've only eaten in the main room.) There are many tables, and also seating at the sushi bar. You have your choice. We've always gone early in the dinner hours, and we are always seated immediately. Service is very quick and friendly. The sushi at Riyoma is amazing. We particularly love the Yellowtail and Red Snapper. The consistency is outstanding, and the fish is very high quality. It's all delicious. We love the rolls, too. Last time, we tried the caterpillar roll and the tropical roll. Both were outstanding. As far as artful presentation, the caterpillar roll is top notch. It tastes just as good as it looks, too. Great care is taken in preparing every type of sushi served. No detail is overlooked, and the result is amazing. Last time, we also ordered some noodle dishes, thinking it would help hold our kids over until the sushi got there. These were also delicious, and the portions are huge! We could definitely have ordered just one for our family of four. I think this place is good for many different types of customer. I know it's good for families. Where we go, our kids go, and they love Riyoma just as much as we do. My kids love the cucumber rolls, california rolls, and maki rolls. They have been willing to try everything we've ordered, including raw stuff. There may not be a kids' menu, but who needs that? Neither is out of place, but neither try to take attention away from the food. The sushi is excellent. It always smells appetizing, it always has the right texture, and the flavor is wonderful. The miso is light and tasty, and the green tea strikes the right accent. You can find the popular choices here, such as the california roll and the rainbow roll, but the depth of the menu offers much more than that. The sushi was tasty but definitely over priced. We also ordered a side of Gyoza (dumplings) and they were very tasty. Found this little gem serving authentic Japanese food. Even my Japanese friend loves the Japanese dishes here. I had a Gyu Don while my friend had a Katsu Don, and we shared a deluxe sushi set. The Gyu Don tasted great though the beef could be a little more tender. The Katsu Don was delicious, according to Japanese standard. The deluxe nigiri Sushi set included expensive Otoro (fatty tuna), besides the usual Maguro (tuna), Salmon ("Sake") and Snapper ("Tai"). Unlike many other sushi places in El Paso, the fish tastes fresh and isnt drenched in sauces to cover the taste. If you really want something delicious and healthy, you can order the tuna belly or the yellow tail served sashimi style, where they bring out the fresh fish cut into slices and you ask for jalapeños to be thinly sliced with fresh avocado and lemons...it's an amazing meal. The gyoza is also delicious. The bottom is crispy and the top is tender... with the dipping sauce, it's incredible. The sushi chef has great hospitality. Absolutely amazing. One of two of the only places I will even eat sushi at in El Paso. The fish here is always fresh and expertly prepared, plus they have my favorite nigiri, surf clam which is quite difficult to find in El Paso.
