The banchan (side dishes) were also very tasty. There are two things I think could have been better to be perfect. I wish the soup came out a little hotter temperature wise and wish the rice was softer and fluffier and also more hot as well. I find the rice issue to be common. Why Haven't I Visited Sushi House Mom's Before? I finally made it to Sushi House Mom's, a hidden gem of a Korean restaurant in the Northeast part of town. The name had me a bit confused at first, and it's tucked away in an unexpected location, making it hard to spot from the main road. But oh my, was it worth the visit! The lunch specials are amazing - I had the full bento box with legit tempura and miso soup, and it was fire! The portions are huge, the food is delicious, and the service was absolutely wonderful. I can't believe I slept on this place for so long! When you find a good spot, you've gotta spread the word. Is craving Korean food and found this little place on Dyer. Don't let the name for you they do serve Korean food and it is authentic. The establishment was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely come again. Both my husband and I enjoyed our food and we had food left over to bring home to her daughter. We ordered a Korean pancake as an appetizer which was delicious along with a salmon skin roll which I was unable to take a picture of because we ate it fast....it was so good. Lol For the main course we ordered fried Makarek (Atka) and Japsae. It came with a few Korean side dishes which were all fresh and me to order the day. The restaurant was not very busy on the inside even though aesthetically it is very pleasing and clean. They seem to have tons of to go orders throughout our stay. I personally have a penchant for sashimi and this is the place to go (although sashimi is not listed on the menu they hand out but just ask!) When it cools off my partner likes their Udon -it's very light but flavorful and the noodles are delicious! It was my first time dining here. In fact, this restaurant just opened two weeks ago according to the owner. A friend of mine recommended this Korean/Japanese/Sushi restaurant to me being one of the better Korean places in town. Of course, I just had to try it myself. Interior deco is simple and clean. It gave me a crisp almost surgical impression due to the newness of this store. Food--their lunch bento boxes are more on the expensive side for what you get IMHO ($13.99, photo). Box lunch offers a good variety of components, though. Miso soup was very lukewarm as if they are concerned about you burning your tongue. I didn't detect a rich flavor as I normally look for any kind of soup. Assorted tempura was OK. Vegetable ones were better (except an onion ring) than shrimp (mainly batter). Dipping sauce needed more flavor. As a rule I normally don't add any soy sauce to already flavored food/sauce, but this one needed some help. 4-pc California roll was OK, but they were very loosely rolled, so it was hard keeping it together. Salad had a nice ginger flavored dressing on it. I could've used more rice than what was on the plate, but bulgogi was very good with tender beef. It wasn't overly sweet--I appreciated that. However, if I were to eat bulgogi for lunch, I'd go elsewhere and enjoy variety of banchan (side dishes) and more meat for less money. Overall, good (but not great) dining experience. It lacked some wow factor, but I'm willing to come back, try other dishes and give them another chance. I'm all about supporting local businesses. read more

The cup was still full so I asked the server to take it off the ticket and two servers and the owner said no. They said I ordered it and just don't order it next time. They all said that I had to pay for it because there was nothing wrong with it. I don't like california rolls so I asked if I could swap it for something else. They let me swap those for 3 gyoza. The food came fast and everything was delicious. The salmon had a crisp to the top and bottom and I love the sesame seed presentation. The miso soup was good, the tempura was light and crispy, the gyoza was soft and crispy. We ordered a lot of food and still spent less than we do at other restaurants. It's a great deal, you get a good amount for what you pay and it is also quality food.
