I wish I could give half stars. Breakfast was 3 star for me and 4 star for my daughter. I had non crunchy potato cubes with homemade corn beef hash which had a vinegary bite to it, meh. My daughter had scrambled eggs and cheese over potato skins which were quite tasty, 4 star tasty, crunchy and creamy as the best potato skins are. The coffee was decent and the nice waitress let me have fresh fruit, as in some one cut up the fruit that morning, fresh fruit instead of toast as I am gluten intolerant. The service was okay but the young lady more than made up for it with her sunny attitude. There was a grumpy manager but I didn't have to deal with her, thank goodness. read more

You know how they say don't judge a book by its cover well this place is a perfect example. If a friend didn't recommend this adorable cafe to me I would have driven right by and probably never stopped in. Tucked away in a small strip mall and looking nothing special from the outside, but the inside is adorably decorated and makes you feel welcome. The staff is so friendly and helpful. My new favorite place also because they have gluten free food, not just hold the bread they have Udi's. Those who are Gluten Free know that special name. GF bread, waffles, chicken fingers, pasta and more. Plus a large selection of organic entree's. Ok so for those who aren't GF or don't care about organic, there is plenty of stuff for you also. Being gluten-free for medical reasons, I was looking forward to visiting this cafe, within walking distance from my home. I tried it twice and had a bad experience both times. The service was slow and they were out of items we wanted both times. The first visit, they were out of GF waffles, so the waitress suggested that I order something that "could go with GF bread." I promptly ordered the veggie benedict. When it came on a regular English muffin, I was admonished for not specifically asking for GF bread! Even though it was corrected quickly, I was very put off for being made to feel like the mistake was mine. During the visit, I was told that all the other GF items are always available, and that GF fries could be accommodated by cooking them in a clean pan. The second visit was horrendous. My son, also GF for medical reasons, was excited beyond measure for the GF chicken nuggets and fries. First we were told that the cook "WON'T do them in a separate pan." Thanks! Then she came back and lowered the boom that they were out of nuggets. Trying to avoid a meltdown, I ordered a cheeseburger on GF bread and home fries for him. When my GF panini came, it had a side order of macaroni salad! I handed the side back to the waitress and asked her to take it away because it would make me ill. She looked perturbed. Then the real kicker: when the check came, I was given a lecture that "if you ever come back again, you should call to make sure we have what you want since your son looked so annoyed." Well, how I would have loved to launch into a good discussion of how, as a person with autism, the fact that my son could even sit in a restaurant after all he has been through in his life was something to honor. And that annoyance she commented on was him trying so hard to keep it together. Or how he has been working with specialists since he was 2 just so he would not have a public meltdown. He was mortified by her comment and couldn't stop talking about it and apologizing to me afterwards. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Do yourselves a favor and don't waste your time or money on this place. To begin with, I was the only customer in the restaurant. That should have been a giant red flag. I had a spinach, cheese, and bacon omelette with a side of bacon, and a glass of water. The omelette was flat and drowned in butter. The bacon was cold and greasy. BTW, this place wasn't inexpensive. They charge top dollar but served sub-par food. The service wasn't great either. Even though I was the only customer, the waitress couldn't even bother to refill my water. A reoccurring observations in the reviews is the "owner" is rude, appears to be quite full of herself, and doesn't know the first thing about dealing with customers. I spoke with the owner, I can attest to the fact that she is probably one of the reasons the restaurant was empty. There are way too many options out there. This used to our weekly breakfast joint for the family, but lately something seems different. When it first opened, the owner/chef would come say hi to every one and ask if everything was good....he actually took pride in his food and place. Now, I don't see him...ever. The hostess walks around in a tennis outfit...short skirt and button polo with none of the buttons buttoned...not an appropriate outfit for a restaurant and coughing in her hands while walking around the dining hall. Came here on an early Saturday morning, place just started to get busy as I left. It's in a nice location with other great stores around it. The waitress was mentioning the pancakes so I got a plate that included french toast, waffles, and pancakes. The pancakes were good but the highlight for me were the waffles. Delicious, crispy but not too hard, and great flavor as well. Excellent service, and the menu has lots of other great options including gluten free items that I look forward to trying soon. read more

I like the food here and they have a pretty solid breakfast with some inventive things like the Green Goddess Benedict with portobellos, spinach, perfectly poached eggs, and they serve it up with a herb infused hollandaise. Plain and simple, the service here sucks every time. The hostess is nice as can be and has the place organized, but it ends with her. They are always chatting, complaining, and not helping people. Came here for breakfast after an appointment nearby and saw that they advertise organic and gluten free items. When first walking in, we were greeted with a hello and a smile - friendly atmosphere and homey feeling. My boyfriend ordered scrambled eggs, sausage and whole wheat toast. The server said they were out of whole wheat toast and it was not even noon! First time ever having told anywhere that there is no more whole wheat bread. I ordered the organic whole wheat French toast. On the menu it said it is served with organic seasonal fruit. What I received was a very mushy whole wheat French toast with potatoes and no fruit! When I asked the server about the fruit, she said it was an option for potatoes or fruit. But, I was never given THAT option when she was taking my order! On the menu - it says "Organic Whole Wheat French Toast with organic seasonal fruit". It doesn't say anywhere on the menu that it is an option between fruit and potatoes! The server offered to "cut up some fruits" for me. After waiting a while for the slow service, at this point, I just want to get the check and leave. I make Better French toast at home! Had heard the Eggs Benedict was good, and am a big fan. When they asked if I wanted soft, medium or hard, I was impressed. Thought these, an orange juice, and coffee would make a great brunch. Whoops...completely underdone and runny, not enough potatoes to begin to sop up the egg, totally ignored once the food was delivered through until the bill (or would have returned) and thoroughly surprised at a twenty dollar bill before tip. (Orange juice as $5.50 for about an eight ounce serving). With no garnish, fruit, and small potato size, I expected more. Taste was good, just very runny eggs. read more

Big mistake coming here. Took forever to get service and I think it was because the owner was too busy screaming at the poor young girls working. I ordered a roast turkey wrap and when I got it 40 minutes later, I bit into sad loose pieces of shredded dry turkey and lettuce. I sent it back and got a lecture about why I should like this turkey because its fresh from a butcher. There was also flies everywhere. I'd love to shut this place down. Horrible. read more

We've been longtime fans of River Edge Cafe going back to their early days in Red Bank NJ. Now in Oakhurst this breakfast and lunch local eatery has always been among our favorites - food is high quality, fresh, well prepared and always delicious. Now: dinner is served on Friday and Saturday nights. On a wet and windy night we enjoyed the first of what I hope will be more delicious offerings. Started with warm, wonderful rolls with luscious sun-dried tomato 'dip'. Starter of an avocado-tomato bruschetta was amazing -crispy, light bread loaded with goodness. Entrees were plentiful and delicious - shrimp scampi and crab cakes (ALL Crabmeat) on grilled portobello mushrooms served with brown rice and nicely cooked asparagus and broccoli. Service is warm and attentive. Can't wait to return - for breakfast, lunch OR dinner. read more

Don't even know where to start with this one. My fiance and I wanted to try something new and since we live in town we figured that we would get the Rivers Edge Cafe a shot. When we arrived there were 4 tables in there at 10:30am that should have been the first red flag but we didn't think anything of it. Once we got sat it took nearly 10 minutes to get a menu and waitress. There were 5 young girls working and one was more clueless than the next. One was posted up at the bar with her feet up on a stool chatting it up with a customer. 2 others were on their cell phones and giggling about last nights festivities. The other one was running around telling everyone how she just received a free rook coffee and the other was the only one actually working. The place was absolutely filthy, there were straw wrappers, napkins, food and debis across the entire restaurant along with un bused tables. I don't know how this place is even still in business. The food was tasteless we order chicken tenders w/ fries and a omlette with homefries and toast. I could have received a better meal from across the street at mcdonalds. The eggs were luke warm at bed, the french fries were soggy and the seltzer water was flat. UGHHHHH Please do yourself a favor and avoid this establishment all together. I wouldn't suggest my worst enemy to eat at this place. read more

I'm usually a regular here. I went in for a bite to eat and little did I know I was going to experience one of the most horrific moments of my life. I found hair in the middle of my sandwich. I didn't freak out at first I politely approached a women who looked to be one of the employees in the front of the door. She was thin, black hair, and a horrible attitude. If I could give no stars, I would. This place USED to be alright for breakfast, however, the food and the service has changed. The past two times I recently visited this restaurant, the food took a very long time to come out, and the order has been wrong. Most recently, two servers even tried to argue with me about my the type of eggs I ordered, even though the ticket she wrote showed the correct order. When the food does finally comes out, the eggs are sopped in butter and leaves an after-taste in your mouth. I will be sure to never return. read more
