First time here and won't be our last! We had a coupon for this place and forgot it at home but this just means we will have to come back and use it. First off extremely friendly service and safe service. They are doing everything by the book to protect their guests. The waitress could not have been sweeter and gave me a great suggestion for a cocktail and on what to order for dinner. Started off with the pretzel appetizer bc my husband loves pretzels and I love a good homemade cheese sauce. Salads were nice and fresh and I loved the pickled red onion. The dressings are made in house and you can tell. My husband had the prime rib Friday night special and it was cooked to his liking. Nice cut of meat and I stole an onion ring and it was yummy. Before the Johnny Cash tribute show last weekend, we searched for a local place to have a sitdown dinner at. The Riverhouse restaurant was where we settled. Both of us had fish for our entrées. As well as side salads. The side salads offered a nice portion with a lot of homemade dressing toppings options. We each try to different topping and we're both happy with it. We had the maple dressing and the balsamic dressing. This place takes pride in preparing a lot of its dressings right on site. A nice touch. Both of us had haddock, one of us the Panko. Broiled and fried were our choice of preparation for each. We both thought our meals were good with respectively sized portions and nice side dishes. Nothing fancy about the inside of this place, well that's no big deal. Anticipated to be your typical small-town restaurant setting with some quaint decorations and an open atmosphere seating feel. Cannot say enough positive things about our server providing ongoing check-in's about the meals. Did need to ask a couple times for water. They weren't too versed in knowing what the bar had regarding spirit brands. There was a slight lack of depth here from the bar. read more

I had a $32 Prime Rib special tonight. It was mostly fat and gristle. Flavor good but it was tough as shoe leather. Waitress never came back to refill drinks and ask if everything was OK. When she brought the check we told her and she discussed it with the owner. Said "oh well sometimes you just get a bad piece and we never got a complaint before". We weren't looking for anything free but it would've been a nice gesture to offer to replace the bad piece of meat. Also be advised they automatically charge 3.75% convenience fee. Let me start by saying that they place is nice. The staff was friendly. The menu offers steak, pasta, seafood, and more. It's not a huge menu but seems big enough. The food was good. It wasn't super. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter. The breading on the shrimp and scallops was quite good. I ordered steak tips. They were good, but I've had them just as good other places. The mashed potatoes were very good, they included the potato skin. The downside was that they didn't even have gravy when I asked. I thought gravy would be great with the potatoes and steak. My husband also got onion rings as a side. Those were tasty. The green beans that I got were good. The Riverhouse is one of those small town places with a big town punch. Food is great, dining room cozy and servers friendly and efficient. This place was awful. We came in with our family and no one helped us for 5-10mins and didn't even acknowledge us. The lone waitress was too busy getting lotto tickets. Once she deigned it necessary to speak to us she had the worst attitude about having to seat us. Once we asked for a booth she said it was not clean and walked off annoyed to go clean it. A decent restaurant in a hard bitten town. While in town fishing for salmon, we ate here two nights in a row. The first night we focused on meats - stuffed pork, Tuscan chicken and chicken parmesean. The portions were large and well prepared. The next night we ordered a combination of pasta - seafood fra diavalo, pasta ratatouille - and meat - Montreal steak. The pasta sauce was pink and generic, the meat was large and well prepared. If I were to go back a third time, I'd stick with the meats. If you read the history of the restaurant that's printed in the menu, you'll be struck by how often the place has been destroyed by fire (1890, 1957, 1962 and 2000), and if you're like us, you'll wonder whether the current restaurant has been secretly sprinklered, because in the bar area it doesn't appear to be. read more

For a great dining experience my wife and I highly recommend the Riverhouse Restaurant in Pulaski NY. We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and we're very impressed with the service and quality of food offered. Every thing is homemade on premise from the appetizers to the deserts. It shows, because the food was fresh and delicious. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a First Class Chef prepare the meals. Needless to say, we returned for dinner on Valentines Day and were not disappointed. Don't be surprised if you see the owner bussing and cleaning tables. I had dinner here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Sat at the bar. Christen made me a perfect martini. Ordered a salad followed by broiled haddock with special greens and garlic mashed potatoes... Could not have been better. Sports a full bar, good wine by the glass selections, happy hour specials, etc. Physically, it's a very nice place in the old, historic part of Pulaski - a town of about 2,400 year-round residents. Friendly staff and patrons, most of whom were here from out of town to fish in the nearby, internationally recognized Salmon River or Lake Ontario. Excellent, attentive wait staff. Honest prices. Good portions. Fresh decor. I went with a large group. Nobody had anything bad to say about their meals. The three appetizers we got were delicious. I recommend the pulled pork BBQ nachos, but those cheap, 3-colored chips should be replaced with something better. The soft pretzels and mustard sauce - I forget the exact name of it - may be even better than those nachos though. The courses came out at perfectly staggered times, which is a credit to both the chef and wait staff. They were very personable and helpful with choices, showing a good knowledge and interest in the menu. Only negative I would have is the riggies were not done properly. The peppers and onions were still hard, and I was disappointed with that. Overall though, this place did more than enough to warrant another visit from me, and I don't live locally. read more

We liked the look of the outside... but once we walked in, the outside does not match the inside... and the lack of customer service was shocking, and this is is coming from someone who works in the hospitality industry. To start, we walked in to a woman screaming across the restaurant from the bar "BE RIGHT THERE," when she came moments later, I stated we had a reservation she looked at us in disbelief, sat us, no menus, no silver.... Waitress then walks up... also abrupt... no, "how are you this evening... " just, "can I get you two a drink" I won't fail to mention that we visited in the middle of salmon season in the Pulaski area, but we were there early, and it was very quiet at this point... therefore, the expectation when dishes are between $20 and $40 and serving prime rib is much higher... management needs to teach their staff the quality of service for the prices they have.. it's not Dennys pricing... a manager hello is also expected... not a single one. I drove 35 miles from Syracuse to meet a friend for lunch. She suggested the RiverHouse. Bottom line, I would drive those 35 miles every day of the week and twice on Sunday to visit this lovely place. The menu options were so appealing. Did I want the buttermilk battered chicken? No. Wait. What about the roasted chicken, apple, walnuts chick pea salad? Did you say blueberry balsamic viniagrette? I went for the salad and my friend had the chicken. My salad was crisp, BIG, and that viniagrette? Amazing! The service was attentive and friendly and very quick without being rushed. (I wish now I'd tipped more than the 20% I left.) The atmosphere was charming, rustic but crisp and clean and bright. Even the restrooms were lovely! The women's room featured a clean and handy changing table. (If the men's room had the same, I will, I swear, nominate the restaurant for a Nobel prize.) My friend and I both had water with lemon, which our waiter made sure was refilled as needed. Originally we were super excited about eating here! We only go to NY once a year for vacation. Upon arrival we were seated and the waitress had a fantastic upbeat attitude. I ordered the 32$ Ribeye special with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts that were burnt my husband ordered the chicken sandwich, friends husband got the shrimp pasta special and my friend ordered the ribeye. the food was entirely underwhelming my steak was supposed to be medium rare and the steak I got was done all the way thru and thin. My friends ribeye was cooked rare. We asked to have our steaks re-fired and were told that it would be a LONG wait or we could eat them the way they were. We opted to have them recooked. The waitress brought out the same dirty Blood covered plates with our original sides on them now cold so that "at least we had something to eat while we waited" after approximately 25 min I flagged down a different waitress and asked that we just pay for our sides and our husbands meals so we could leave. This lady was NASTY to us told us there was no way that was going to happen as they would be out the 60$ for our meals. She walked away and returned 10 min later threw out steaks at us and then proceeded to throw two to go boxes at us. My steak was RAW not even blue And my friends steak was rare. The waitress then rushed over to throw the check at us. The attitude change was ridiculous. We will NEVER be eating at this establishment again. You walk in the the bar half, but they have another half to the place that is much fancier sit down. The restaurant had a nice cozy cabin type feel. Wait staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and extensive specials available. Menu has a good selection of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, steaks, and a lot of seafood dishes. Came in on a Friday night, during the Salmon Fishing Derby- called ahead and was told there was no wait. Surprising, with all of the fishermen in town. Got there- no wait. The front bar-area seemed busy but a few empty tables in the back. Was happy to find that they have a hard cider on the menu- Angry Orchard. Got an appetizer for our table to share (3 of us), the RiverHouse chips were amazing- fresh made potato chips covered in melty blue cheese (we opted out of the bacon). We stopped by after a long day fishing because we heard it was a great place to eat from the locals. It has a very cozy, welcoming atmosphere and our server was a sweetheart. There's a bar area and regular seating as well. The clam chowder was very good. The seared scallops with risotto and asparagus were amazing! The scallops were cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish it all, because the portions are good sized, but it will definitely be my breakfast tomorrow. The linguine with lemon clam sauce was also delicious. Very disappointed. My husband and I have eaten here quite a few times. Happy to find a restaurant in this area that was so good. When family and friends would come to visit we would always bring them here. The last few times we have gone we have been extremely disappointed. We always get seated right away, but then we were not greeted in the most friendly way. Specials are not expressed to us, the menus are placed on the table and we are asked, What do you want to drink?" We place our order and there is no salad that comes with our dinners. We wait 2 hours and people that came after us are severed before us. We are not people who complain so the first time we just graciously sat there and waited for our dinners. When they came they were missing Gorgonzola sauce on the steak, and the food was cold and not tasty as it has always been prior to this experience. Being non complainers we just chalked it up to a bad night for the restaurant. Returning to give The River House another chance as we really did like this restaurant, we returned on Valentine's Day. We made reservations which we arrived and were seated right away. Again we were not greeted in the most friendliest manner. We wait 1 hour and 45 mins. for our dinners only to be disappointed again, not only by the long wait time (which we almost got up and left, but not being those kind of people we waited patiently). People with larger dinner parties were served before us that arrived 15-20 mins. after us. Our food was room temperature and lousy. Incredibly good food. Came in for dinner with a friend and had the bacon wrapped maple scallops (regular menu) smoked wings with house BBQ sauce (special), sun dried tomato bisque soup (special), and "Buddha bowl" with cous cous, zucchini, squash, broccoli and added shrimp (special). The scallops were easily the best I have had; light, melt on your mouth soft while retaining a full body and texture, seared but not overcooked in the slightest, and were generous in size. Wrapped in bacon and maple glaze, they were simply exquisite. My dinner companion and I both commented on how the BBQ sauce for the wings was possibly the best we have both come across, and the smokehouse flavor which was the nights special was an incredible compliment. Decor and service were great, price is slightly more than a common fast casual joint but the food is beyond compare. A must in Pulaski. Our family goes here for lunch and appetizers every time we visit Pulaski. The Lunch menu is simple with a variety of choices ranges from burgers, melts, wraps and basic sandwiches. Some of the best French Onion Soup I have had. Prices are reasonable for lunch, about $8 to $10 bucks for a well portioned entre. Service is decent. Drink prices are a bit pricey for Pulaski, but the food makes up for it. As for Dinner, I am assuming its at the same level as lunch, but I have yet to visit RiverHouse for Dinner. read more

Probably the best place to eat lunch in Pulaski. Nicely appointed, a vast improvement over the previous Log Cabin that was in this location for many years until in burnt to the ground. The menu is innovative, the portions generous and the service great. The one night I tried to eat dinner here, it was so crowded I was ignored, but this was understandable as they were clearly overwhelmed during the 4 week Salmon fishing season every fall. Pulaski is such a seasonal town, doubling in size during the Salmon run that many places have a tough time maintaining throughout the year, but this has survived apparently because the locals recognize the quality. The food is good, if you are a regular local, the service is good. We go about every other month but over the past six months the service has gone down hill. If you are a seldom visitor or passing through - do not go! The greeter/host could care less if you have to wait while he spends time with his regulars. One seated do not expect to get service right away, again the regulars will take priority. One tip would be to sit in the bar area so you can just ask the bartender for a drink if you server is in break. I would say I have had ok service there before but not on a busy night.
