LD's on the River is a unique restaurant known not only for its award winning food but also for its breathtaking views of the Salmon River -- offering outdoor seating right on the water. Wife and I stopped in for some lunch on a Saturday. We were able to find on street parking, and were able to be sat right away, at an outside table. Plenty of outdoor seating right on the river with umbrellas for shade. Menus were brought quickly. We ordered some onion rings for a starter, while my wife ordered their pierogi platter in garlic butter with fries and I got their insantity burger, a burger topped with cream cheese filled & bacon wrapped jalapenos. Food was brought in a timely manner. We enjoyed our food. Onion rings were very good, and we loved the home made chipotle dipping sauce it came with. My burger was cooked correctly and their home made fries, while very thin, were very good. Service was mostly good, although we did feel like most of the people there were regulars and there were times we felt our service was a little slow while servers chatted with regulars, but everyone was friendly. Our only other small complaint was that they serve most of their food in baskets, and for me, the burger was huge, needed to be knife & forked, and it was difficult cutting it in a small basket. Overall, we enjoyed it though and would go back if we were in the area.

This was such a great find when we took a trip to tailwater Lodge for trout fishing. It was very close to the resort, and the food was very good hasn't kind of nostalgic, feel with the exposed brick and a huge deck out the back I can imagine that in the summer that deck right on the river up high kind of hanging over the river below would be such an awesome place to hang out. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures. So I'll just use two that I found online to give you an idea.

Don't let the yummy label make you wanna squirt some of this moldy yucky smelling Tabasco sauce get you down

Not so great.... Tables aren't sturdy, food is meh, service isn't great. I was asked if I wanted another drink and the tender grabbed my half filled cup and refilled it and a full price drink. Tabasco sauce was moldy and expired.

First time ordering food from here and it was very good. It was take-out due to the pandemic but they did a great job of taking our order and having it be ready to go in the time they mentioned. My husband got the LD's burger with an extra patty and he said it was delicious. I had a few of his fries and they were good too. Nice, thin and you can tell made-in-house. Also tried the Black and Tan onion rings. These were done well, and you could taste the beer flavor. Can't wait to go back and try their chargrilled wings.

There was hardly anyone inside, yet I had to wait ten minutes to get a table. It went downhill from there. One server for the whole restaurant is a problem. I just ordered a beer and fries. It was cold so my husband just wanted tea. The first cup tasted like coffee that he doesn't like. The second cup was cold. He gave up at that point. That said, we really did enjoy the food. It was BOGO beer or pizza. The hubby partook in a beer and we opted to share an appetizer of cheese curds and a fish and chips. I will say I was slightly disappointed with our curds. They were small and most were just empty pieces of batter. The people beside us got a beautifully breaded batch and much more. They tasted good, but still disappointed in the lack of curds (the empty ones). The fish was nice and light and not fishy at all. I really enjoyed the coleslaw and my husband likes the fries. It was just the right amount of crisp without being too much and the perfectly flaky fish. The price wasn't terrible and the lake view is very nice and relaxing.

It's been a while since I'd last been but everything is as amazing as I remembered…read more I've seen them advertise their monthly "flight night" events for some time but never actually had been to one. When I saw an espresso martini and cake pairing, I knew I had to pull the trigger. Met up with some friends and we all ordered food beforehand to offset the impending sugar rush. I'd had their naan pizza in the past and loved it, so this time I went with the one that had caramelized onions and goat cheese. AMAZING. Crispy crust, melty cheese, tangy onions and the perfect amount of everything in every bite. Then onto the main event: the flights! The staff brought over our cake and drinks and were so great about explaining what to pair together. (There was also a card) Desserts were a carrot cake with the most impossibly airy icing, a pistachio cheesecake with chocolate ganache, and a chocolate cake with a light nutella icing. I'm usually a carrot cake girlie and while I enjoyed it, the cheesecake was actually my favorite. Just the perfect pistachio flavor and a wonderful consistency -- so, so smooth. Our waitress told us that the owner is the one that makes all of the desserts too. A multi-talented queen. As far as the martinis, my favorite was the affogato one. These flight-nights are one-off events and the items aren't normally on the menu, so if you see one that looks extra appealing, get yourself there! I've been for normal service too though, and honestly, never have had a misfire here. One thing I especially love is the option to order drinks in 5oz pours, a godsend for lightweights like me. Ambiance, food, drinks, all excellent.

Any other time, if you are not a regular, this place might not be for you. I've been here several times with mixed experiences. The last time I was there was a Thursday in the summer of 2024. My husband, brother and I were excited to find seats at the bar and order dinner. The bartender was a short blonde woman and there was a male bar back. The bartender did not acknowledge us for over 15 minutes. We were actively looking at the menu on our phones and talking about what we wanted to try and attempted to make eye contact with her as she walked by us with no luck. She didn't even say "I will be right with you", literally no interaction. She was very friendly with everyone else around us seeming to know exactly what they were drinking and happy to get it for them. We left as we felt very unwelcome there and ended up having excellent service down the street at Lukin's.

Although many breweries/brewpubs have leaned into the now-cliché industrial look, KBC looks very much like an old school pub. Its walls are covered in the paraphernalia of countless beer companies, and there's plenty of nooks and crannies to sit down with your people and knock back some pints. Going to brewpubs can be a hit-or-miss experience for my non-beer-drinker wife, but KBC's enticing menu has something for everyone. Also, their sausage rolls appetizer was enough to ensure that we were both eager to try out the pub. The sausage rolls are of the bite-sized variety and come with a tomato-chili sauce for dipping. The puff pastry of the rolls was shatteringly-crisp, with some browning on both it and the exposed meat at the ends. I enjoyed the juicy, savoury meat inside and the tomato-chili sauce brought some acidity and heat to the show. Since we still weren't l that hungry, we decided to share just one main, the cottage pie. I always give mental kudos to places that use the proper name for this dish (it's only shepherd's pie if lamb is used) and take it as a sign that they know what they're doing. It's hard to have a *bad* cottage/shepherd's pie, but KBC's stood a bit above the fray with a bit more depth of flavour to its meat seasoning, as well as the smoked cheddar in the potatoes. As always, don't be too eager, as you will burn your mouth. Our server was very chill, but was still attentive and knew his stuff beer- and food-wise. It's easy to see why KBC is such a popular spot, and I'm glad we hit them up on this trip through Kingston!
