Her tip paid for half, and her miscount of the beers paid the other half. Look at your bill when you eat here, they always tack on something, and there's always an argument with a customer about it. This is one of the most interesting places I have eaten at lately. It is located in a particularly rural part of Oswego county. It seems to be a cross between a biker bar and a senior citizen restaurant. I arrived on a Tuesday, which apparently was chicken Parmesan night. We were told to seat ourselves, which we did, and as I walked through the restaurant, I saw many people eating Flintstone size dinners. We were greeted by a very upbeat waitress who served at jet speed. The menu was a mix of bar food sandwiches, and dinners. Everything is a La carte, and when I saw the enormous portions, I didn't order an appetizer. I ordered the fish fry dinner and my husband, the haddock dinner. My granddaughter was in the mood for chicken Parmesan, especially smelling it, and seeing approximately 70% of the restaurant eating this dish. This was really the centerpiece of the night. There had to be a good half a pound of spaghetti topped with the most enormous chicken breast I have ever seen. The waitress had all she could do to carry two dishes at a time. Our fish dinners were enormous as well and served piping hot and tasty. My granddaughter ate approximately 15% of the chicken Parm, and just like everybody else in the restaurant took the rest home. She will probably be able to eat it the rest of the week. In fact, that one dish could serve a table of four. The atmosphere is congenial, and everybody seem to be upbeat. The reason I can't give it five stars is because of the fly paper hanging in the corner. I've never seen that in a restaurant. No flies bothered us, I'll give them that! read more

Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just a dive bar, or more accurately a locals and fishing bar. In Salmon Season in this rural village on the world-famous Salmon River in NY in late September into October, they serve hundreds of huge plates of food to hungry fishermen daily. For those leaning towards healthy eating they feature a grilled chicken salad which I couldn't finish last night. They always have a great selection of hearty, tasty homemade soups, usually 4/day. A bowl of soup and their great wings are a great casual dinner for me. Tuesdays they feature a Chicken Parm that will knock your socks off with both size and flavor. Even after a full day of winter fly fishing for steelheads I have never been able to finish even 1/2 of this, despite it being the best tasting I've ever eaten. Fully a pound+ of crispy chicken breast and another pound of pasta will defeat even the most aggressive eaters, but it'll be worth every mile you'll have to walk to work it off. It's what's for dinner tonight! A very friendly and efficient staff will take good care of you, and are available to serve you the same great food year round. I love this bar. read more

Food is amazing. Huge portions that are delicious in every aspect. Staff was friendly and what you would expect in a small town bar. Biggest issue I had were a couple in the bar who were loudly fighting and swearing to the point it was annoying. They started getting physical with other patrons in what they assumed was a playful manner but could've been construed as threatening. Plus with covid im sure it wasn't welcome. I wish the bartender would've intervened as it made me not want to come back again if that's the norm. read more

Everything is great and the food is really good. If you come here to stay it's a shit hole. If you have a dog. DO NOT come here. Most dogs will bark if someone is at the door. They said it was ok to bring my dog in the bar and that is against New York State law but he started barking because he wanted food. We got kicked out. We ordered nachos as a appetizer for our group, followed by the French Dip sandwich and wings for lunch. The nachos arrived cold, with unmelted cheese. We were so hungry from fishing that we just ate it anyway instead of sending it back. We noticed other people get the nachos and also only eat a few bites of them, these also had unmelted cheese and cold toppings. The wings and sandwich were very good though. This was just as expected a large portion of chicken parm. However, it wasn't just a large portion but it was delicious as well. I have been to this place several times since I found it 2 years ago prior to covid. I come up each year for a few weeks and one thing I like about this resturant is it is consistent. It has a great menu something for everyone and the food is consistently good. It broke my heart seeing how difficult it was for them to navigate the covid mess but they did it. I know from seeing all the posts on facebook it was hard but with strong community support they survived. Thank goodness this a must on your list for places to eat. read more

Awesome food! Best food in the entire Salmon River area. Been fishing for almost 30 years up here and I wish I only found this place sooner.

Portions are MASSIVE, so plan on bringing home leftovers. We had French onion soup, the seafood platter, and the black and bleu burger with homestyle chips. It was very busy, often an encouraging sign that the food is good, but in our case meaning extraordinarily slow service. The staff were great, there just weren't enough people on hand to service the demand. The French onion soup was rather bland, but our main courses were quite good, despite the long wait between ordering and receiving our meals. We plan to return and sample some of the other dishes available. read more

They do not have any legit menu online, that's why I gave it a 4 - when I called to order off the one on Facebook the pizza had been discontinued. The fries are super soggy if you do not ask for them extra crispy. Our favorites are the wings, and sampler platter. read more

Have been here many times while fishing in the area. Everything has always been 100% fantastic. This past Saturday evening I took my wife and grandson there for dinner. He had french fries and a drink ( his normal food) LOL. The fries are "to die for" here and they were great for him. My wife had the chicken parm dinner and as usual it was fantastic with about 1 pound of spaghetti. Delicious as usual. For the first time I ordered the prime rib.....I ordered it medium and that's how it came out, but.....I don't know if it was a bad cut of rib but mine was the toughest piece of prime rib I have ever eaten. The taste was there ( great) but every inch of this piece was extremely chewy. The rest of the dinner was great....salads, potato's, drinks, waitress ( brand new) and atmosphere....even though I had some problems with my meal I will still go back when in the area, they are just that good..... read more

One of the best Dive-Bars in the North Country... Atmosphere is friendly, but with a bit of a biker flair, Gritty ambiance, but do not let that scare you away. This is really a great place, and comfortable for bringing the family. But to focus on the important things.....The Wings at the Altmar are out of this world! They have several home grown wing recipes that are totally killer. Try their wing sauce called "The Junk", Awesome! The rest of the Menu is mostly typical bar food, but their portions are large and the food quality is excellent. Not fancy, by any means, but if you want affordable delicious food, gigantic portions, cheap beers and friendly service, this is the place. It has a strong local vibe...bikers, fisherladies and fishermen; at first, I was wondering if my tetanus was up to date (I kid, I kid). The AH was suggested by our fishing guide as the place to go for chicken parm, and man, he was right. My portion, which was like $14 or something, was seriously enough to feed a family of four. I have never had such a heavy container of leftovers...lunches for days! It wasn't the best chicken parm I've ever had (umm...ever been to the Mulberry in Lackawanna, NY?), but it was damn good, and it was plopped on top of what had to be a solid pound of spaghetti. My dad got the prime rib, and I may have stolen a tender, juicy bite when he wasn't looking. Prime rib came with a huge baked potato, which was "really baked" according to my dad...not that "microwaved crap". Not bad for $18. If these prices are a bit high, there are certainly other goodies for cheaper; wings, burgers, etc... Wing flavors look fantastic, although didn't see anyone order them. Being a Buffalo girl, I don't trust any wings other than those served in my hometown, but I'd try these if someone twisted my arm. read more

Camped down the road on a fishing weekend and a worker at the camp said go here. Took my 10 year old. Wasn't sure what I was walking into, seemed like a bar. Place was empty, which is kind of a red flag. We went in ordered burgers n fries. 2 minutes later about 30 people came in on atvs. My son thought it was great. Anyway, very friendly service and great burger in the middle of no place. I would have never went in if that guy at the camp didn't say it was good feed. Next time we camped up there about 5 months ago, first thing my son says is can we get a burger from that place. Good stuff. read more
