I've stopped here a few times when in the area, for dinner in the dining room. Have tried a sandwich, a wrap, a baked seafood dish... everything has been surprisingly good. They also have excellent mashed potatoes. The salad bar is a huge bonus. Good way to make sure you get some vegetables in a city not known for healthy food. Most recently, I had a buffalo chicken wrap. It was spicier than I expected. A little too hot for me. Luckily I had the mashed potatoes to balance it out. Service consistently above average. If I would criticize anything, it's that the dining room feels worn. Years ago, this place was a fine dining establishment before it shifted into a tavern concept. It's like the interior hasn't been updated since then, so it feels like a worn fine dining room. But I'm reluctant to mark it down for that. It's clean and it's advertised as a tavern. Decided to have lunch here after golf at Battle Island. Nice covered outside seating, not busy Thursday so pick of tables. We sat outside near the lock & Waitress was so attentive thank you! We ordered the shrimp Asiago roll, and grilled chicken, mushroom & provolone sandwiches. Everything was delicious, and they bought a sirracha Mayo for my fries. Only bad thing was the bar stools near the lock, rough shape splinters and paint chips on your legs. Need to take care of these stools and should have been done in the off season. read more

Business up front and party in the back. No they don't have a mullet but as you walk in you are met with an inside bar and to the right a nice dining area. To the left as you walk outside to their deck they have a nice area that overlooks the dock alongside the canal. The outside area has its own bar with both covered and uncovered area to eat and drink. Very reminiscent of many of the bars that line places like Cocoa Beach, Florida it has a rustic charm. It was a beautiful day and was nice to look out at the dock and watch people fish. We choose burgers which came with a very good bun and a nice size burger. I think my last experience was better than my previous, so I wanted to express that by increasing their review to 4 stars. The food is pretty good. We were here with a group of 4 for lunch on a Sunday, and the service was good too. They did get busy, and so the service slowed a little, but still wasn't too long to get our check. We went to the restaurant lately. Usually the food and atmosphere are wonderful. We ordered drinks. Waitress came back and told us they were out of the beer that was ordered. Settled for another. My friend wanted the Lobster and Mac, they were out of it. My husband ordered something with seafood. Again, the waitress said they were out of it. Several of us ordered sweet potato fries. Waitress came back and said that they had no sweet potato fries. Not happy. I was there for my birthday with friends and was very disappointed.. Food also took quite awhile to get to us. My favorite neighborhood hang, it's a short stroll from my second floor walk up. You can enjoy casual seating in the lounge; the bar menu is deep and the kitchen always aims to please. Best wings around- order them crispy! Burgers are a hit as well; salads are made fresh. Pasta dishes and other entrees I'm not familiar with and while they have a large dining room my guess is 75% of the food is served in the bar. My reviews are about expectations being met. When I go to the TOL we enjoy the bar. It's fun, friendly and the kitchen stays open late. read more

Haven't been here a quite a while and thought we would give it a try...while my lobster pasta dish was very nice, my husband's French onion soup and bacon wrapped scallops were completely inedible. French onion soup tastes like they heated up straight Worcestershire sauce. Worst I have ever tasted in my life and we love French onion soup and eat it often at home and in restaurants. The scallops appeared to have been boiled not bRoiled or seared and we're terrible. Bacon half raw. I have never posted any negative review in my life however it was that bad. Great spot and you never see a soup and salad bar anymore. We went last Saturday and it was slow for a Saturday night. Maybe just an off season night. I had the Prime Rib and my brother had Seafood Platter and both were delicious. As was the soup and salad bar that had a nice variety of items. A real loaf of bread too. Our server was training and still did a decent job. There is a really nice outdoor area that I can see being a good spot in the nice weather. Just ordered takeout, wanted a nice evening with the fiancés with some food and a movie! Called ahead and asked what size the Philly was and the nice lady said it was good size so I decided to go with that along with some buffalo wings. 4 of us ate here this afternoon, and it took ALL AFTERNOON. We waited to be seated, as per the sign stating "for better service wait to be seated." We asked to sit outside, so the waiter showed us to the patio and we sat down at a table. He gave us menus and ended up being our server as well. He came back to take our orders and we asked if we could see a drink menu. He said yes and he'd be right back. He came back 10 minutes later with a wine list, said the bartender was in the bathroom and he'd get the other drink menu and bring it back. We had had enough time so we ordered our food then. Flash forward 60 MINUTES and we are still sitting with no drinks, no drink menus, no silverware, nothing. We had even gone into the bar to ask for a menu and a woman server said she would be right out. When she came out she said that there are no drink menus, our server should know that, he didn't even set up the table, and that he wasn't allowed to take anymore tables. We ordered drinks from her and the other server brought them to us. We waited another 25 minutes from that point for our apps. For those of you keeping track, that's over an hour for DRINKS, and close to an hour and a half for apps. I should mention that there were MAYBE a handful of tables inside, and one other table of 2 outside. The place was dead. So we get our apps, we eat, and they seemed to be good as far as flavor and quality go. I had the scallops wrapped in bacon, it was very good. Another half hour and our food comes out. We eat (I ordered a haddock sandwich, it was ok, a little spongy but I just wasn't feeling hungry anymore so I only ate like 2 bites and asked for a box), we asked for our checks (we asked for separate checks for the 2 couples in the beginning). He brought one check 15 minutes after we asked for checks and then had to go back and split them and bring them back another close to 10 minutes later. He apologized and said they had just gotten "slammed inside". We paid and went to leave. There were 3 tables inside. Three. We live about 20 minutes from the restaurant, I barely made it in my house before being physically sick. I was the only one at the table who ate the scallops wrapped in bacon (which was essentially all that I ate) and I've been vomiting since I got home. DO NOT EAT HERE. PERIOD. read more

I thought I would check this place out a beautiful day to enjoy the outside. They have a large outdoor deck with the typical plastic chairs and a variety of table sizes to choose from. There is an outdoor bar with some swing chairs that give your relaxation a kick. The bar has a variety of domestic beer on tap and in cans. I paid 4.75 for draft Sam Adams and 3.25? For can of labatt lime that was 12 oz I believe. My friend ordered the Kendal Jackson Chardonnay for 7.95 (for about a glass and a half of what you normally get. It was refreshing to not be gouged on alcohol prices. My friend had the Boston haddock that came with unlimited soup and salad bar and a side item. She was happy with it all and it was a big haddock for under $19.00. I was on more of a liquid dinner but upon the waitress recommendation of mexi-tots compared to nachos, I thought I would try the unusual tater tot with chicken, cheese, salsa and sour cream. I shoulda went with nachos. The tots were too crispy and had barely any cheese and the small chicken bits that were on there had no flavor (she said there would be, as I told her I'm not a chicken fan) and tasted like it was cooked 3 days ago. There was some Mexican spice but not really noticeable. The waitress offered to have it remade but I declined and asked for salsa and melted cheese to go (which was somewhat better warmed up at home). Not worth 8.99 so find something else on menu. They had a variety of appetizers, along with burgers, seafood and sandwiches. I saw someone with steamed clams that I wished I knew about, but maybe next time. Plenty of indoor seating and they had a band playing on deck that was not too loud. They also had a smoking dining area on deck, fairly away from non smoking area. Generally very happy at this establishment. Post-COVID, something is amiss. We had a large party, perhaps 12, with reservations. Throughout the evening incorrect drinks were delivered. When dinner was served it was chaos as wrong meals were brought, meals given to incorrect patrons and several of us did not get meal as ordered. I was supposed to have blue cheese, but did not. Another said gluten free yet her food was buried in bread crumbs. Two ordered cod, yet were served haddock. Worse was that many were completed eating before two members received their burgers. I ordered 12-Oz delmonico medium-rare, it was about 5-ounces of gelatinous fat and 7-ounces of medium steak, not medium-rare. I am not sure if things have gone downhill totally, or new staff was on mid-week. Hopefully management will get things back in order. BTW, salad bar is great! read more

the wife and I went to TOL tonight for diner, we have been here many times over the years but in the last year the place has gone down hill rapidly. today was the last straw for us and we will never return, burger king down the street would be preferable at this point. I ordered shrimp scampi for $21 and my wife ordered chicken biscuit $17 both specials of the day. food was just not edible, shrimp was like a rubber ban and the bed of pasta was undercooked and cold the sauce was indescribably horrible and watery I was done after 1 bite. the wife's chicken dish was no better, cold in gooey as she described it. waitress brought the food and never even bothered to check back. anyway with tip I paid $ 55.00 for food we did not eat and they never offered to discount or remove bad food from the bill. On a recommendation, I stopped here for lunch. I was there a little before they opened, but the bartender, Connie, allowed me in anyway and was very friendly and accommodating, even took care of me while she was still setting up her bar. The location is great and offers a nice view of the river and offers an outdoor patio when the weather is nice. Connie chatted a bit as I looked over the menu. She mentioned their burgers and cheesesteak sandwiches. Being a fan of the cheesesteak, I decided to give it a go, but ordered chicken instead of beef (since I had beef the day before at a different location). Because the owner was sitting at the bar and I generally tend to adhere to my southern hospitality, when asked how my meal was I commented that it was "good." Honestly, it was edible, but wasn't that great. I love grilled, caramelized peppers and onion on my cheesesteak, but these were barley cooked and unfortunately this restaurant uses red/purple onion as opposed to the sweet onion you generally see on a cheesesteak sandwich. After getting passed the veggie mess, I get to the chicken... the unseasoned, flavorless, chopped chicken breast. Can you tell I was disappointed? Gave this place a try. As soon as we walked in we noticed it smelled pretty bad. Don't worry the bathrooms are basically at the entrance. Was looking to sit outside but apparently there was no room. When we went outside there was a bunch of open tables. When it cleared out you think maybe they would have asked us if we wanted to move outside. From where we sat inside we could not see the outdoor patio. It took over a half hour just to place our order. They served our water in a dirty pitcher as well. Other than that I have all positives to say. Our meals included a salad bar. The salad bar was pretty good. I had a stuff shrimp dish and it was really good. My wife had scallops and she was happy. My little guy had fried haddock bites and they were really good too. A bit pricey for a restaurant in Fulton,NY as well.
