Dexfield Diner & Pub is still serving up the same great quality food the customers and staff can now enjoy the comfort of AC again too...! Tonight I took my son and his girlfriend on the short drive down Hickman through Waukee and Adel to Redfield. It's seat yourself. Seating is stools at the bar and a combination of low top and high top tables and chairs. Menus and napkins along with basic condiments are at the table. We were greeted right away when we walked in. Staff was friendly and personable. I've come to expect this from any of Steve Robert's teams. I don't think you'd last long with him if you weren't. Ordering and payment are done at the table. Cards and cash accepted. They have happy hour specials from 400 pm to 600 pm Tuesday to Friday. Half off appetizers and drink specials. We ordered: 1x cheeseburger basket with fries 1x 10 pc wings basket with fries 1x breaded tenderloin 1x appetizer of mammoth mozzarella sticks (and they are) 1x appetizer of cheese balls 1x appetizer of fried pickles 1x appetizer of fried mushrooms 3x fountain drinks (Coke products) Tiffany was making magic happen in the kitchen while two young ladies were taking care of business up front. Steve popped in to check on things and help prepare for Redfield's Settler Days. The breaded tenderloin is truly among the best in the state! Even better now that it's back to being served out of a basket and not out of not in a styrofoam to go box...! Owen and Vanessa enjoyed their burger and wings. All the appetizers are hand breaded.... Those mammoth mozzarella sticks...! Just massive! I hope the pic in my hand for scale does them justice! Everything was hot and fresh! Perfect right down to the house made ranch and marinara! Definitely worth the short trip West of the metro! https://www.facebook.com/DexfieldBlueDevils/

Lol I took at look at their menu online and it's not a big menu... Build your own 7-Stone crust (thick) and artisan crust (thin) along with six different specialty pizzas. Big into appetizers? Don't plan on it here. They have cheesebread and side salads. They offer a couple different items for lunch specials (Wednesday - Friday 11am to 2pm)...toasted hoagies and a half pizza combo. It's order and pay at the counter. Pepsi self serve fountain drinks. Plates, utensils, napkins, and pizza spatulas are beside the fountain drink station. Parmesan and red pepper are on the tables. Seat yourself. The seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. There's a small counter with seating as well. The business itself is in a strip so there is lots of parking available. There was one gal behind the counter taking orders as well as cooking and serving pizzas. Two younger ladies came in a bit later, but it was hard to tell if they were actual staff or daughters there to hang out with their mom (or maybe both). Staff was friendly enough. Our party ordered: 1x large House7 on 7-Stone crust 1x large buffalo chicken on artisan crust 2x small pepperoni pizzas on artisan crust 1x large cheesebread 1x side salad 7x fountain drinks It was a short wait for everything to get cooked and served. The thicker 7 Stone crust takes about 20 min. The artisan...probably half that. The 7 Stone crust vaguely reminds me of when Pizza Hut still cooked in cast iron. The toasted crust with cheese burnt like little vertical stalagmite (that's the cave formations that form from the floor up)... That was something neat to see. I haven't had a crust like that in a long time. The artisan crust is thinner of course, but perfect for folding. You like a little char? This gives you that in some bubbling aound the edges, but the bottom of the pizza crust is not burnt. I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken pizza! I'm not sure what it was but for me there was something off about the red sauce... It wasn't "bad" but just tasted off. At first I thought it might be a residual taste from the black olives from the House7, but the red sauce on the pepperoni pizzas had the same taste. Maybe it was the plum tomatos they use v. roma or another more traditional variety? Bang for the buck... To me it seemed a little pricey. $22 for a small cheese pizza on 7-Stone. $20 for a small cheese on artisan. $33 for a large specialty on 7-Stone. $31 for a large speciality pizza on artisan. But that might just be me... The company was buying for the two of us today so... The cost is sort of irrelevant outside of mentioning the noted pricing in general. When the company is buying I really don't care. But I'm kind of glad they were paying for it... Lol But no one walked away hungry that's for sure...! And the leftovers I took home will get eaten as long as it warms up anywhere near the same (follow up edit: it did). This is a tough one for me... It's kind of like Gusto. I had a ton of friends who loved the place. I just never cared for it. And there was no particular reason... Is this some place I would return to? Maybe if invited again... But while it's not exactly my favorite... You might love it! Definitely worth checking out! https://www.7stonepizzeria.com/

We got three sodas and water for the kids. Our bill was $60. The person who took our order wanted to make sure we knew that we were ordering a lot of pizza and ask how many people we had coming. That was very nice of her. The ingredients tasted really fresh, and the crust was tasty in the wood fire oven. It's actually kind of a plain Jane restaurant in a strip mall, but the pizza is very good! Real plates and silverware are a very nice touch.

Pepp's is located in a strip mall just off of interstate 80 and 86th on the northwest side of Des Moines in Urbandale. Surrounded by some other hotspots including Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt and Friedrichs Coffee so you really could make this an all day stop! (haha). The shop is small and only has seating for about 25 people (max) The open kitchen and walkup ordering works so you can see and hear everything going on. Decorations are eclectic and fun without being obnoxious. The place is clean and well lit. Menus are displayed in multiple locations and easy to read. Order Pizza by the slice or the whole thing along with sandwiches and extras. Grab a cup and a number, get your drink (no alcohol) and sit down. The lady at the counter was patient and kind while we deliberated our choices. Once we decided and ordered our Meatzilla Pizza ($21.50) we only waited about 10 minutes before it was delivered with a smile. First impressions - it is a well made pizza with ample toppings, the crust is thin, chewy and crispy and perfect! We really enjoyed the combination of canadian bacon, sausage and pepperoni with the little bits of ham. I had a little buyers remorse that we only ordered one pizza so I ordered a slice of the 'Pepp's Pie' to go. It was also delicious with the pepperoncini adding that nice tangy spice to the already tasty slice! While we were eating we witnessed one of the chefs come out and check with every table to make sure we were all happy - this was a very nice touch. In addition the manager came out at the request of our neighboring table to discuss catering options with them. Very good customer service all around! We are looking forward to coming back to try another option! Great Job Pepp!

High points for Pepp's: Wood fired pizza with that characteristic crust, fresh toppings, creative…read morecombinations. Low points: The toppings on the pizzas with lots of bulk (large amount of toppings) were mostly in the middle of the pie...or had fallen in...but it made picking up the pieces quite messy as they'd fall off. Was also confused because they advertised an upside down pizza, but all of the pizzas we got were "normal" with the sauce on the bottom and the cheese on top and then the toppings on top of that. (Shrug) Our group tried a wide variety of pizzas, but the favorite was the white pizza with the hot honey on it. It really was tasty. Sometimes white pizzas don't have enough cheese or sauce on them and end up being kind of plain, but this one was tops!
